Hi guys I'm new to the epic touch and was wondering if it is safe to flash a Ff11 from an already installed ff11 rom and how or is it necessary to restore to gingerbread before flashing the new ff11 rom. Lastly, what is the most stable ICS ROM with everything working? I tried AOKP and it had messed up video recording and bad wake up lag. Thank You

Yes it should be safe but just do yourself a favor and only flash, back, restore, wipe, etc from el26 cwm kernel/recovery. Most stable ICS rom would probably be just a stock leak or maybe calks 1.6 rom. I personally use CM9 and its good.
Thanks I did just that. A question though, why do the rooms have wake up lag... Is there a way to fix this?

Personally I wouldn't take the chance with the emmc bug. It takes like2 minutes longer but I ALWAYS flash back to el26. Just not worth chancing a brick.

All ics roms are still leaks. Some devs have been working on tweaks but no source yet to work from. Soon we hope.
I flash from EL29 there is no difference in flashing from EL26 or EL29. I have been using team venom's roms and they work great and really could be an over the air with absoultly no bugs what so ever. I use my phone fro work all day long 5 days a week and havent had the first minutes trouble.
I have flashed Multiple ROMS, and if your looking for batter life, the any ROM from Mijjz of Team Venum is definitely what you want they are all stabil. I am currently using "Mijjz Blend ICS " No Name" ROM. the Xplod Mini rom runs on a sony based kernel and works well, so if you want a differnt interface its a great choice while still keeping the battery life. Blu Kuban Rom is great if you want a variety of optional tweaks built into the ROM. There is a new Team on here called Team Rejectz they just released a new ROM that looks great, I'll be flashing that this morning, and Give you guys an update on how that turns out. I always flash back to either EL29 or EL26 before flashing a new ICS Rom.

Same here I have been using cm9 as my daily driver for the passed couple weeks and it is rock solid stable! Love ICS I cant imagine going back to Gingerbread after the ICS experience. Its alot faster, way nicer and just overall smashes gingerbread. Lol Not like IOS5-IOS6 where ya get 1 or 2 new features.. Features that Android have had since froyo..lool!

Easiest root: sfhub's one-click methods. If you have used Odin before, you will find this the easiest method. Actually it is the easiest no matter what, it is ONE CLICK! If you want stable, stick with any ROM for EL29 which was the official GB release from Sprint. If you want to experiment with ICS leaks, then that is up to you.
Really just get versed with how to flash properly on this phone (read the stickies, trust me) and you can really find out what best suits your needs SAFELY. Also most ROMS come with a custom kernel already, so just read the OP on what is being included on each ROM. For ICS we don't have source code yet so there aren't really a lot of options for kernels - it depends more on what type of ROM you pick (AOSP, CM9, TouchWiz).
Just remember to stay away from CWM Touch recovery, Rom manager, and wipe data/factory reset using custom recovery on ICS and you're good (atleast for now til ICS source drops for us). I'd recommend CM9 alpha 4, very smooth and battery life is good for me.

I am not going to research this, cause I am sure there are a ton of threads involving ROMs. What I am asking is for a poll. I just installed yesterday Wicked Sensations v1.4 with FF18 modem. I did that modem because prior to flashing to Wicked I had installed the FF18 on a stock Gingerbread 2.3.6. Seemed to work well on my phone. Anyway I am not liking Wicked to much; so I am asking all of you. What ROM are you running? What is the performance like? Is there any ROMs out that that have the overclock kernel built in? What issues are you seeing with the ROM you chose? I know the ultimate decision will be mine as to what ROM to use. Wither it's the stock android, or something else. I am asking this because before I started trying to flash to a different ROM I was only aware of Cyanogenmod 7. I get on here, and start looking around, and BAM! there are a TON of ROMs.
Blazer ROM
I'm currently running Blazer V4.1 as my daily driver. I flashed rogue_et-1.4.1+ kernel w/ OCing. I don't have any issues at all. best one I've ran so far.
I just started running CM9 Alfa5 build with TeamWins twrp- 2.1.8-epictouch-CM9-FF11(safe for flashing) kernel and can't be happier. Everything works as it should, it's really smooth and has a ton of bells and whistles.
If your looking for a GB roms try out GalaxyTask_14_Slim I used that one for a long long time. And if I decide to go back to GB that's the rom I would jump back to.

anyone notice decreased performance and overall shi&&*y performance after upgarding to ICS? Im running stock ROM, rooted both, and have 2 exact same devices in front of me - one's on GB, 1 on ICS - ICS has no signal, GB has 2 bars...That's just one of many issues....any thoughts?
Flash a custom ROM. I've always said this before ICS came out. I could care less for the stock release, never flashed it, never will. Its all about source and what the devs can do with it. AOKP 7/15 milestone 6 and CM 9 are to very stable ICS ROM's. Add some Darkside to them with his kernel, and you are good to go!!

where do I find those 2 roms?

OK.. So every phone i have ever owned i have rooted, Kernels, anything and everything.
But here is my problem.. I have recently updated (manually) to the new ICS on my epic 4g touch.
I have tried all the roms pre this release and never had 100% luck with any so normally always ran stock os plus root.
I want to know if A) there are new roms post this recent update, B) if i root to another pre-existing rom is it going to mess it all up again.
Basically i want like CM10 out or something. Something made specifically for how the phone is now...
Any suggestions?? Im tired of stock. I want to customize!!! :crying:
Depends how custom you want to go. If you want to flash custom theme and modz, you must go with a deodexd ROM.
But if you want AOSP-ish look, agat has a very good stable and themed FF18 ROM he calls tFF18. It has a simple look, much different than stock tho, but it's built with a custom kernel and based off Samsung, not CM9 or 10
not sure if that helps.

It does help!. So if i get this right... ANY deodexed rom or another option is tFF18. And these are both based off our current rooms so that EVERYTHING WORKS

Are there any other name brand roms out there i can look into?
Anything t look into specific??? As far as AOSP roms go, ive tried them in the past, but are you saying their newer version ones are friendly to the latest update?

Yes everything works. tFF18 is odex, so you can't change much of the ROM but it works incredibly smooth and stable. Also, practically all DEODEX'd ROMs have the hacked sprint hot spot for tethering. Stock and odex roms require the Wifi Tether app which is easily found by googling "wifi tether apk"

Aosp is nice and light weight, makes it super snappy, but you lose a couple convenient features from samsungs touch wiz UI.. My main gripe with going aosp/aokp is that my camera doesn't perform as well, where IMO Samsung did a nice job with the software.

Hey all,
Finally about to make the jump from GB (on Calk's 3.0) to ICS. I need a Rom that is stable (daily driver status) and wanted to see what thoughts you all had. I've been reading all the threads for weeks and think Phantom's Blazer might be the way to go. I'm also considering just using odin to install the stock (and rooted) stock FF18 as my signal is horrible and not sure why (tried many modems). Anyway all thoughts welcome... CM9, AKOP, re-Calked....
May have to try them all!
Thanks!

CM9 all the way. Getting great battery life, its typical for me to go 12 hours right now with moderate use (texting, phone calls, web browsing and flipboard) and still be at 50% battery. This rom is so customizable with the notification shade and tethering it should just come with it CM9 out of the box. I was a little worried with the stability of this rom but I haven't had any issues at all. 4G, Camera and GPS is great too. Its snappy quick responsive. Going from stock to CM9 will feel like its a new phone and until we get LTE for Sprint in Minneapolis I'm sticking with this great phone
blazer 1.5 has been remarkable in smoothness and speed and I installed agat. 4.2 and ff18 modem
If you want to stay on caukulins roms there is a recalked 1.7 out for ICS.

seriously
I'm on CM9. It's relatively stable as a daily driver and my battery life's been getting much better. It was horrible for about a week after flashing. CM9 and AOKP are pretty interchangeable, but I think I like AOKP more. Keep in mind, they're still alpha, so bugs will happen, but I don't know why alpha 6 wasn't just made beta1 as planned. From my understanding, the ICS FF18 official source needs to be un-f*cked before CM9 goes official, so I'm holding my breath. Meanwhile, I'm interested in CM10. JB is supposed to be better than ICS in many ways. Going from GB to ICS, you are probably going to be let down unless you choose a rom wisely.
If you love Calk, like everyone does, it really might be worth trying the RE-CALKED 0.1.7. I'm debating flashing it now, but I want to know more people's opinions about it first.
So, rest of this forum, how does RE-CALKED 0.1.7 compare to CM9?
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the replies. This is REALLY helpful. I'm really excited to get started on flashing! I think I'll give CM9 a shot first but may try a few others.

Thanks, glad you mentioned this. I was actually wondering, given all the issues with ICS and bricking. In the "how not to brick your phone" thread it states not to restore GB while it ICS. Does this refer to nandroid backup/restore? If so, then I would suppose that you need to first oden back to EL26 or ED 29 then restore, correct?

I was on gb a couple days ago and restored my ics back up.. All I did was flash a Calkuins wipe all script (if you don't have it I can link you one) restored my ics back up & then flashed agats source kernel to get it to boot.( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421)
You're good as long as you use a wipe all script and agats source kernel (they say you can wipe data in agats new source kernel but I haven't yet.. I just always use the wipe all script just by habit Plus it saves me time to have to manually wipe everything)

Just to go on top of that. I have/do wipe data manually in agats recovery. No issues so its available/safe if you want to.
