Has any one seen the new update for the Xperia Play? I have not updated yet, however I was hopeing that some one can shed some light on this update, as I am not sure if it is ICS or is it a normal firmware upgrade? I am on 2.3.3, on R800i. Should I do the upgrade to 4.0.2 or no?
this will be 2.3.4 update^^
edit: nevermind.
sry for offtop.
Didn't 2.3.4 come out months ago?
4.0.2.A.0.42 came out a few months ago and is already available on the Dev forums. Could be that your carrier is pushing it now.

No, this 2.3.7 post was a serious fake.

i'd read through our forum a bit more than you have already. there are multiple posts about ICS on the ion. and guess what they are ALL from sony. no one has released a custom developed ICS ROM for our devices yet. so the only thing we have been flashing is SONY made ICS.

ICS has been out a while now but only in certain countries.
A little research would have led you to the conclusion that you can flash it and root it even if it is not out where you are yet.

At&t basically gives away phones so can't afford to put a lot into development.
I got my X10 &ION for free so I will let xda be my developers. Xda roms better than at&t anyway

I bought Sony Xperia Ion in July, I have been anticipating the ICS release since and I have read several conflicting release dates so i decided to call 611 (AT&T CS) on 8-26-12 and they notified me that the official release date for ICS will be on September 1st. Again, I have not read this anywhere, I called Customer Service under Updrade or replace the device and asked the Customer Service agent through AT&T. I asked her if this was an official release date and she said it was......**fingers crossed**

Knowing how most customer service people are I wouldn't put too much stock into what she said. From what I have been told by my friend at Sony who deals with the Xperia sales and carrier relationships its still on track for mid September, but again its all up to AT&T so maybe they will surprise all of us. Doubt it....
A little off topic, isn't Sony putting out a patch update towards some of the Xperia line that has just been updated to ICS? That might explain AT&T's delays.

Where is everyone getting that AT&T is delayed. The original date was Oct for the ion ICS update. AT&T didn't start working on testing it till the ion was released? September would be a relatively quick turn around time for AT&T to get a major OS update approved.

Only the non-LTE version has had ICS.
Both the LT28i and LT28at have recently had new firmwares certified:
LT28i: 6.1.E.1.19 Aug 31, 2012
LT28at: 6.1.C.1.105 Aug 31, 2012
Hopefully that mid september timeframe rings true for both.
I really hope not. How long do you think they will keep it updated ?
Galaxy S2 has went from Gingerbread through ICS and now it's getting Jelly Bean. Since Xperia S is starting from ICS, does it mean it will be getting new android after Jelly Bean?
XS is starting from GB,but it was an outdated launch anyway.Sony agreed to support phones(at least flagships) for 18 months of release or with 2 major updates. So somewhere in august it ends for the S.BUT,the Xperia SL is released in September, and it is exactly the same phone(just a little higher CPU clock speed). And it started with ICS,which means it should get at least JB 4.2(though that's not exactly a major update over 4.1).So if the SL gets it,the S should too, even Sony-style excuse for not doing it will sound just stupid.
well if sony stop XS on Jellybean (hope not), we still have CM rom .

SL will stop at August also. Look at Arc S. Got the same fate as Arc...
And I'm pretty sure we won't have beyond 4.1 by Sony, considering Qualcomm didn't gave the sources for 4.2 for our S3 processors (which isn't exactly their fault, as they are a bit outdated. ) T (and variations) and V are the only ones that should have official 4.2 or luckily 5.0, if Qualcomm cooperates.

That's why we have xda .
Custom rom's are fast, stabile and we already have 4.2 - ok, it's not for daily use but I'am sure it'll be soon.
So, when Sony relese official JB and dev from xda get new drivers and other stuff they need - we'll get stabile 4.2.
The other day I installed official ICS ( I'am on JB for a few month's) - it didn't last long , I just don't like it anymore.

What we (XS users) and other Snapdragon S3 phone users (such as HTC Sensation HD) can do is sign a petition asking for sources and drivers for Android 5.0 (or 4.3) for our processors.
At the end of 2011, users signed a petition asking Qualcomm to release drivers and such for the ARMv6 (Snapdragon S1, for example) for ICS. It worked. That's why devices like the X10 Mini and Mini Pro, X8 and other companies devices have fully working ICS or even JB with camera.

Samsung makes their own chipsets so they don't have the same issues as others with sources. If Sony isn't able to update it beyond jelly bean then it is totally qualcomms fault for not putting out the resources necessary. Look at the Nexus 4 which isnt even AOSP because of qualcomms dumb ass. Their is something to be said about making your own hardware.

If Sony could only supply the dev community here with the drivers we would easily have the most updated Android phones.

I guess that is software version of current sw and that is planned to upgrade to JB in week 17. I bought phone in Sweden and 6.1.A.2.45 is latest software for that country.
I really do like Sony products (my Xperia S will be a solid phone for a few years atleast), but the way Sony is releasing updates to our phone is just sad. It's not like Samsung which has gazillions of phones and i would image they'd have some problems in releasing updates in time for all their models.
Good thing that community is ahead and has a lot of 4.1 ROMs and a few based on 4.2. +1 for xda devs :victory:

My guess is the middle or end of July and key lime pie by October since that's when the Moto X might be released and Google wants to have Motorola flagship phone on the newest version of android.Im thinking they wont release a new nexus device this year and the Moto X will be there nexus for this year with stock android and a few good customizations such as their 3 ring clock widget, quick setting, smart actions etc. from Razr HD line of phones.

We all thought they wouldn't release a nexus device last year, but then they hit the nexus 4 to the market. I really don't know any more. They have become less predictable. Which I really don't mind. This.
Also, I believe 4.3 will drop sometime this fall, around Oct. or Nov., because that's when the next Nexus is rumored to be released.
And apparently, it is likely going to be made by LG again and not Motorola as suggested above.
I'm just waiting to be able to run an AOSP ROM with Bluetooth AVRCP. So I guess as soon as they release the source ...
thanks for all the feedback.
I wonder what new features Google could possibly pack into 4.3? I think 4.3 will be a minor update, then KLP will hit us hard!!
Google need to slow it down so everyone can catch up to the latest Android operating system. To many updates and os versions make it hard for developers. One or two updates is good enough google keep going and going.
