[Q] Best ROM? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am considering rooting my device. However, I only want the Android 4.2 stock SMS app that handles MMS group messaging and emoji. Would that be possible to install it without rooting (preferable, like how you can install a stock keyboard without rooting)?
If I have to root, what's the best ROM? I'd want one that is vanilla and can handle MMS groups and emoji, and is extremely stable.
Or would this be possible on a Touchwiz-based ROM, so I can keep the Samsung features (S-beaming, popup player, etc).
If I can do it without rooting, or by keeping the Touchwiz-based ROM, where can I find the stock SMS app?

i dont think you can get 4.2 message app without rooting your phone
and for roms
there are a lot of roms, can't really say which is the best, everyone has different op
but for me it's either cm or aokp

[Q] Replace Sense SMS app with vanilla

Hi all,
I understand it's possible to install the vanilla Android 2.2 SMS/MMS application (Mms.apk) on a rooted ROM*, but is it possible to install it on an unrooted ROM? From what I understand HTC's awful Sense SMS/MMS app has the same namespace as the vanilla one so you have to replace it rather than run it alongside like you can with the Email.apk app.
If it is possible, has anyone done it before?
Still stuck on an unrooted 2.2 stock ROM, but want to speed things up a bit, hence the question!

* as per instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846231
Not sure if that's possible with the Wildfire, but why not try some third party apps like Go SMS or Handcent?

Looking to install stock email/calendar/Wifi calling / etc. after ROM upgrade

Hi,
I really like the stock email (allowing different polling times for peak / off-peak and the overall usability) as well as the stock calendar and the wifi calling feature.
I do afraid that if I'll install any new ROM (say 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 based ROMs) I will loose those stock apps. I understand that I will need the "Stock Samsung Framework" so something similar to that?
Is there a way to download those apps from somewhere? and also - what will I need to remove from the system folder before I install (or overwrite) with the stock apps?
Thanks,
Gil.
There is no official 4.2.2 for samsung devices yet. Specially like our s 3.
The feature you mentioned are Touch Wiz based ROm feature. If you install 4.2.2 then you will loose all those. And there is no way you can install those on any AOSP based ROM or CM or AOKP.

Thanks Bikrame,
I just wish someone could create a ZIP installer that installs only Touchwiz on top of other ROMs; I know that there was one for ICS on the SGS3 but I could not find any for JB...

flashing seperate components

Does anyone know if I can flash a ROM, like AOKP, then flash touchwiz message app and/or touchwiz contacts app with it? Similar to flashing a ROM, then flashing gapps with it...
Knowledge, please

Don't think it's possible. TW components are highly dependent on the framework. I have heard however, you can flash or add AOSP components such as messaging, contacts, phone, ect to a Touchwiz based ROM.
I wish you could! The absolute only 2 reasons i tend to stick with touchwiz, are the calander full month widget....never found one on play store quite the same, free one anyway.....and I stick with it for call blocking! Probably apps for that, but like the touchwiz one better than some I've tried.

MODS for Stock Sammy ROMS I would kill for 2 days ago

HELLO XDA,
I was hardcore AOSP rom user becouse there are some things in Samsung stock ROMS that seems too much annoying for me!
Problem is that AOSP/AOKP/CM atd roms aren't stable and bugless as Stock Samsung ROMS are, so I decided to revert back to Sammy ROM.
But that "blup, blup" Touchscreen sounds were killing me, and dont like to disable em totally as well. So I extracted touch sounds from AOSP rom and used em in Sammy ROM.
That made me so HAPPY!
Then xda user gaosphappy gave me a small tutorial how to make CWM flashable zips. That was great couse I am kinda flashaholic and changing sounds aren't so easy and fun everytime I change ROM...
For people who have same problem like I did, I decided to share mods in thread
Here is a download link of AOSP Touchscreen sound mod:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6dl56znct247nbo/aosp touch sounds.zip
And in case you don't like it I made mod to revert it back to TW Stock touchscreen sounds:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/h90v13xlcs0ws39/TW touch sounds.zip
Next thing I hate at Stock roms was messaging application... That notification sound for delivery report is so stupid! (my opinion ofcorse )
But AOSP messaging app has bad icon which don't look well with other TW icons, so after some trying and using logic (I am total noob never did something like this) I made flashable app with Samsung stock icon but in case you wanna flash it:
BACKUP ALL YOUR MESSAGES COUSE THIS MOD WILL DELETE ALL MESSAGES YOU HAVE!!!
You can backup messages with titanium backup and resetore em after flash.
AOSP messaging with stock icon:

In case you dont like it, revert back to samsung messaging:

Samsung Apps on Custom ROMS?

Is it possible, if so how, to install Samsung apps from stock rom to a custom rom? Specifically, S Calendar from stock (4.4.2) to CM13. The gapps version of calendar does not provide the ability to copy an appointment/task (ie. a Dr appointment has occurred now you get a reschedule).
Would like to be able to carry all the apps using the S Pen (S Note, etc) to CM13, is this possible? To have Cyanogen recognize when the pen is removed and ready to be used?
I hope I conveyed my thoughts....
Thanks in advance
From what I have read, these Samsung apps require kernel and will not work on aosp, caf, or cm kernels.
