[Q] Replace Sense SMS app with vanilla - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I understand it's possible to install the vanilla Android 2.2 SMS/MMS application (Mms.apk) on a rooted ROM*, but is it possible to install it on an unrooted ROM? From what I understand HTC's awful Sense SMS/MMS app has the same namespace as the vanilla one so you have to replace it rather than run it alongside like you can with the Email.apk app.
If it is possible, has anyone done it before?
Still stuck on an unrooted 2.2 stock ROM, but want to speed things up a bit, hence the question!

Not sure if that's possible with the Wildfire, but why not try some third party apps like Go SMS or Handcent?

[Q] Stock Android keyboard on Froyo Desire

On 2.1 I had installed stock keyboard using this method: http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-full-voice-to-text-to-htc-desire/
However this no longer works, since Voice Search is installed by default and can't be installed over.
Is there any way of getting the stock keyboard on official Froyo (without root, I really should have waited for a modded official froyo...)?
i want this too. anyone can help?
Anyone..? I'm getting really sick of HTC_IME mod...
EDIT: Aha, Smart Keyboard has a Stock Android skin, and it looks and works great. Only problem is, you need to pay for suggestions...

would this not work then?
here is the stock google keybord for froyo, works fine on sence roms just flash from recovery .....
lovely, and this is the froyo stock keyboard the the pop-up symbols at the top?

to update, this link sorted the issue for me and seems to be working as expected
do i need to root my device or change the OS in any way to be able to use the stock android keyboard on my Desire?
Nope! I'm using it to type this message on normal sense froyo

DeFroST on its own ?

Is it possible to get the DeFroST application as part of a complete ROM, or a can i get it on its own to install ? (without installing complete new ROM)
I see some Stock HTC ROMS that have DeFroST included but i want Stock+Sense+DeFroST hboot 0.83 if possible
I have currently :
I have a Rooted Stock ROM-2.2 +Sense-Froyo (without the OTA update) + Radio version: 32.49.00.32U_5.09.00.20
cheers
im pretty sure that it is not possible to have defrost and sense at the same time as they kind of cancel each other out. i could be wrong though.
closest thing you can get is a couple apps here and there that LOOK like sense, and if you buy launcher pro plus it almost is identical to sense, but as far as i know there is no way to actually have both with each other.
DeFroST is a ROM and not an app you can install on an existing ROM

TouchWiz (Galaxy S UI) and Stock-UI for Stock Z

Hi guys,
since i will get my DesireZ next week, i am already searching for toys to play with on it
One thing i am wondering and i want to try out is:
1) Will i be able to turn off sense completely WITHOUT ROOTING/Flashing any other rom?? I think i read something, that HTC removed the Stock Android launcher, so.....is it possible to reinstall it by any apk??
2) Same question with Samsungs TouchWiz-Launcher - is there any apk i can install on a NON-ROOTET Z (without flashing) to run TouchWiz on it??
May sound stupid perhaps, but i guess i won´t root the phone the first few weeks, but i like to play around with Themes/Launchers/"Eyecandy", so i was wondering if any of the two points (or both) are possible
Thanks 4 Info,
BigD
You can install another launcher 'On Top' of sense, but Sense will not be removed, and will continue to run in the background. A few popular options are Launcher Pro and ADW (free versions) or Launcher Pro Plus and ADW EX (Paid)
The downside to this is that it will likely slow the device even further (before I rooted my Desire Z, I did notice some lag on the device, likely because of the stock Sense ROM)
Not sure about TouchWiz options, but after my experience with Samsung I avoid it like the plague =P
i know about these 3rd party launchers and that Sense will always run in background (sadly)
But is there a possibility to bring up stock Android launcher??? (APK or something?)
And/or is there a APK wit Touchwiz??
Yes there is an Touchwiz apk, just search the desire forum and youll finde one

Click to collapse
Ok, i trust you if you post this here, that the APK will also work on my Z next week
And what about Stock Android Launcher??? (only thing i found until now was "Gingerbread launcher" - but is the stock-launcher really not in the stock Z ROM????)
No the stock Launcher isnt in the stock DZ rom. But u can use Gingerbread Launcher as u said b4 or pull the stock launcher apk from cm6 or any vanilla 2.2 rom
PS: Its another Forum, but there is the Touchwiz apk posted i used for testing on my dz http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/133164-galaxy-s-touchwiz-launcher-enjoy.html

[Q] HTC Wildfire 2.3 with sense ROM ?

Hi there..yes im a new guy ¬_¬.
So I want to root my wildfire (i know how to do it). The problem is i like HTC Sense and the new version that came for the 2.3 devices, iv'e been looking around for a bit trying to find a Sense rom on 2.3 and have so far failed.
1) Are there any 2.3 Sense ROMs out there for the wildfire?
2) If not are there any themes that mimic Sense for CyanogenMod 7? (I would prefer if the 'people' and 'message' apps looked like sense to because i dont want to open them and find that it look different to sense.) (Also if ii was to do this i presume that i wouldn't be able to keep the HTC widgets so would there be anyway to add them in?)
3)If the above just isn't available id prefer to stay on the stock 2.2.1 sense rom, how could i overclock with it? (i understand it has something to do with replacing a kernel but i don't know how to do this.)
Thank you in advance.
Yes, you are new and you obviously haven't looked properly. -.-
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067868
2) Not possible to get Sense Apps to Non - Sense ROMs like Cyanogenmod
3) Replacing a kernel is the same as installing a ROM. Place kernel Zip on SDCard, Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, Select Install Zip from SDCard, select kernel Zip, done.
Well i did look and saw that and was a bit too unfinished for me but thanks anyway.
Looks like i'll probably replace the kernel to overclock and see if anything new will come out or possibly move to CM7.
Don't forget to take a nandroid backup before moving to CM7, so you can easily revert if CM's messaging, contacts, camera app etc dont suit you.

[Q] Best ROM?

I am considering rooting my device. However, I only want the Android 4.2 stock SMS app that handles MMS group messaging and emoji. Would that be possible to install it without rooting (preferable, like how you can install a stock keyboard without rooting)?
If I have to root, what's the best ROM? I'd want one that is vanilla and can handle MMS groups and emoji, and is extremely stable.
Or would this be possible on a Touchwiz-based ROM, so I can keep the Samsung features (S-beaming, popup player, etc).
If I can do it without rooting, or by keeping the Touchwiz-based ROM, where can I find the stock SMS app?
i dont think you can get 4.2 message app without rooting your phone
and for roms
there are a lot of roms, can't really say which is the best, everyone has different op
but for me it's either cm or aokp
