[Q] New HTC One X - HTC One X

I just got a new HTC One X. What apps, themes, anything should I get. Should I root or not root. Any help or info at all on this device would be nice and appreciated. Thanks

If your worried about warrenty, don't root. But I'd advise you to wait for a year.

Alright. Thank you

I unlocked/rooted mine from force of habit rather than necessity, tbh stock is fast enough. The only true benefits are adblock and backup, I'd say.

Depends how you look at it lol, with custom roms for example you can do pretty much anything you want i'll just give you few screenshots of my phone but don't get dragged into rooting yet, wait for at least 1-2 months just to be sure your device doesn't have any defects.

As soon as opened the box I unlocked boot loader and rooted, 10 months ago and had no issues. I suppose it's boils down to how lucky do you feel?

That looks nice. Yeah I'm gonna wait to root. But when I root, will I be able to just use Rom Manager for Roms?

Revolutionary for One X?

Anyone know whether it's possible or if it's in the works and whether it's worth the wait to see if it is? voiding warranty isn't something i want to do on one X, and with revolutionary i can revert it

I'm pretty sure some devs are trying to do this, it's just a matter of time . I'd say it's worth waiting for, there aren't many roms at this moment anyway. Not even a AOSP rom yet!

Yeah fair point, only reason i'm asking is because HTC Desire HD never got it.
I only need root right now to get rid of the menu button on screen

Well Desire HD was never a real flagship device (HTC Desire was and that one got rooted).
HTC One X is a flagship so you can be pretty sure a lot of devs will focus on this one!

that might be worth reading. As regarding if it will be permanent i am not sure..guys on xda as such geniuses they will probably find a way to unlock it so time will tell
Until AT&T decide to be nice to you guys or someone develops an alternative method, you're stuck.
The AT&T One X has its own section:

No, nothing is bullet proof. Even the iPhone was jailbroken, right? Sony Playstation....And the list goes on and on. This phone has been available for less than a day. So I just imagine with some time, we'll see it unlocked. IF (and I know it's a big if) the Sense UI doesn't crash I may not even bother unlocking it in the future...The only reason why I'd want to see this phone unlocked is to put a ROM with stock Android ICS on there and also a ROM that would hopefully increase performance/battery (though we'll see how battery goes, apparently it's real good!) and of course to remove any pre-installed bloatware...The bloatware removal is perhaps the most important of all 3 benefits there with the custom ROM. Other than that, this phone is awesome! So get used it while you wait for the unlock and see what you do and don't like.

When will you upgrade your HOX to a new one?

So I have had my hox for nearly 20 months, and I am barely able to make it through a day due to battery issues. I think its time for upgrade, but I love my hox so much that I dont feel like switching to a new one yet or heck maybe even a year. I may perhaps still be tempted by the m8 or maybe z2 or the forthcoming g3. But there's still few months for that. How about you guys, are you upgrading yet or will hold on to your hox for eternity
well i have a couple more months then its being boxed again ,not to keen for another HTC this time its a great phone but time to change ,looking at the oneplus one or the oppo find 7 for a bit of difference ,steering clear of the big 4.

or you can simply buy a new battery for about 25 euro and wait next year for a new phone
I am happy with my HOX and I am not a maniac to changing my phone every year. Now we have better Kernel flasher and soon I hope we will have multy boot.
Yes perhaps a new battery it may be then. But I just want to see how other phones hypes are really worth

Yes, im going to upgrade next week. While i love my hox, i kinda grew bored of it, and same issue, battery is just not enough for me anymore. Up until today i was sure going to pick up xperia z2, because its a great overall device, but got to play with m8 all day, and i must say, its tempting. The phone just feels so great in hand, trully premium device. Now im torn between these two and have 1 day to choose. Decisions decisions...
I also dont want to change to something new yet. My hox is keeping me busy as long we have at least cm support

Wouldn't say it's a weird decision maybe a change from
Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony.
Nexus is still in with a chance. I just can't see what there offering that warrants such a high price.

I can already say that battery is beast like. Only received the phone like 2hours ago, it was at 57%, after heavy usage all this time and sot of 1:40h, i lost only 17%, and brightness was more than 50% all time. Trully impressive phone, only size takes some time getting used to, everything else A+.

[Q] Might be getting a little obsessive...

This is my first android phone on verizon before this i had the iPhone 5 for 2 years and before that i was on sprint with the evo 3d which was rooted... i didn't know it was a mission to get verizon phones rooted. Now im checking the forums everyday like 3 or 4 times a day to see if anything new has come up for root. Im getting desperate lol. People that have had previous note devices on verizon, did it usually take this long?
Lol you sound just like me! Ive looked everywhere. And now just sticking to xda hopen for some good news! I had a s2 rooted then went to ip4 to ip5s both jb. now im back to android with n4. N4 is a bad ass just waiting for this root to make it even meaner! I feel your pain bud!
Don't count on this phone being rooted on Verizon. If it's that important, you may need to switch phones/carriers. It's unfortunate.
It'll be rooted, just have patience. People are SMART around here, and they'll figure it out. It's still a fantastic phone as it is.

I don't doubt that the N4 will eventually have root.
I think the issues as stated is that CF needs an unlocked bootloader, which means either we get an unlocked bootloader (which I really doubt) or someone finds an alternative method. So yeah, nobody can predict the future, but this isn't like other phones like say on Tmob. There are more obstacles people with AT&T/VZW need to overcome. Saying otherwise at this point is very misleading to potential buyers and retail owners.

How patient are you? it might get root within a year maybe. want recovery and root buy a developer edition
I think the note 3 just got root this past summer, and it was released Sept 2013, so that would be 8-10 months after release.

If only it were that easy. Unfortunately Samsung's DE program is a nightmare and they can't seem to keep them in stock. I would happily sell my phone today for $550 and order a DE for $700, but its not even an option.

Well if we've learned anything about Samsung this year its that they don't know how to properly plan their phone supplies. At this point I'll just wait for an M9 instead of dealing with Samsung's DE circus.

s-off and bootloader unlock question

Hi all!
Just picked up an M9 this week... Had an M8 prior to that. I've been reading through the forums and spent some time on the M8 forums flashing, testing, and customizing the phone with Roms. I've been reading about the M9 and have noticed some mention that Verizon is firm about a locked bootloader and all. I was curious how on the M8, S-off and unlocking the bootloader was achieved if Verizon is so strict about keeping the phone locked down? Thanks for any responses in advance Looking forward to customizing this beast of a phone. Thank you to all the Devs that make all of this possible!
Cheers,
Ren

The M8 was like this when it first came out. Yes Verizon is strict. From what I have been told they are trying to find a Temporary Root Exploit to be able to S-Off and all that goodness. We just have to be patient like the First Model M8 people were. Luckily when I first got my M8 it was rootable and stuff. So just be patient, or feel free to donate to jcase and beaups to help buy them energy drinks.
Everything @Balian67 said an also one tip. Don't do any updates till you are s-off as updates could cause exploit not to work if there is a exploit released.

Totally agree with this!! Oh my lord is there a difference between Touchwiz and Sense. I did go back to Nova Launcher for the actual day-to-day launcher but the framework is...I dare to say...enjoyable to use. This is my first HTC phone, although I've worked on a few for friends, but I'm loving it so far.

The way Samsung complicates settings drives me bonkers. It just doesn't need to be that complicated.
I'm in S6 trial week. Lol. So far not impressed. The so called super snappy touchwiz has a laggy keyboard whether stock or google. Also don't get me started on Chrome browser lag. Little things here and there that are non existent on even the m8. Overall its snappy but it still has annoying hicups here and there. Gonna take a miracle for me not to exchange for an m9 next weekend.
I had an M7 but not an M8 and had put AOSP on it because Sense just didn't feel right to me.
I bought an M9 because of the retail employee deal of no-contract for $300 and trading in for the new one every year. Ditched my G3 and haven't looked back. I love Sense 7. Not only is the UI smooth and really easy to use, the whole design language flows so well with the physical design of the phone. I don't think I'll be putting a custom ROM on this but I would love root for an ad blocker. I forgot how many ads there were on phones until I had to use this M9 without root.
Is anyone planning on making a bounty thread?

No need really. Bounty threads are worthless distractions too.
For example, one of the last ones claimed only netted the receiver 30% of all promised funds.
Sunshine will likely include vzw some time in the near future...you probably didn't use it on your m7 but it's a standalone app and costs $25.

Well, it worked on the S5, that's for sure. Leading to the most prolific exploit in android history with Towelroot, so I wouldn't say pointless. I'm not sure the exact % that paid their pledges, but I paid mine. The ads in apps and webpages are really starting to bug me honestly, and I miss my battery-saving apps and xposed modules. I jumped to HTC from the S5 specially to restore bootloader access and ultimately CM-based ROM's to my phone experience. I guess leaving Verizon would have been a more thoughtful choice, but oh well. If anyone starts a bounty thread (and yes I know almost everyone thinks its a bad idea), I'm in.
That being said, much respect to the people working on a root method for us currently. You guys make my little phone hacking hobby possible, so thank you.

I don't know exactly how true it was, but when I first got my M8 and found out that I had to pay $25 to get S-OFF, at first I was hesitant...But I kept reading WHY and immediately understood and paid right away. It separates guys like us who pay their pledge from people who DON'T. As I am sure you would EASILY pay the $25 to get S-OFF. I know I would. I almost prefer it this way, because im pretty much sure it comes with tech support for those who need it. If only more americans stood by their word instead of promising things they would never fulfill. I know that this community has always been about contributing and free things to make all of our experiences better. I get that, but all too often, people take the work and claim it to be theirs. I remember a few devs (that I talked to a lot) had this problem with users of the Samsung Moment and HTC Evo 4G. So between all of the devs hard work not being appreciated (especially when they do this stuff for THEIR phone and they release it to us to enjoy and some people are always complaining or demanding features, yet they don't contribute by donating to the dev so they can buy energy drinks to keep their mind going, or beer to help relax them after they finished a massive update that fixed all the bugs and added features and stuff. Then people wonder why they have to pay $25. Well I have been a member of XDA for years, contributed a lot here or on irc chat, and I will gladly pay $25 to get S-OFF, Root, and Custom Recovery. Why? Because since the DAWN of xda, everyones phone has been made far better then what ANY manufacturer gives us. I mean seriously...I would have Android Lollipop on devices that Samsung or whoever has long gone moved on from. Why? Because of XDA, and the devs. I swear if everyone paid $25 these devs would be able to buy all sorts of devices to root for us. I know I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, and an HTC. So I appreciate it, and you know what? I consider that $25 a donation to have root on devices period. Why? Because without the people who know what they're doing, I wouldn't be able to install xposed, make entire backups of my phone (so if the device fails while on warranty), I can EASILY restore my phone. I had that happen with my old HTC Evo 4G LTE. That phone broke 3 times on me and each replacement bestbuy gave me (2), all I had to do was get S-OFF flash a custom recovery, and do a "Restore" then all my texts were there, apps were there (with data), call logs were there. I can go on. That $25 is security for me. So saying all that, I will sit here as patient as I can be to get S-OFF and when the time comes to hit the pay button, there wont be a second thought. No regrets. No more stress. Any more Andybones roms to flash.
BOOM (pardon all the grammatical errors, yall get my point.............right?)
