Rather annoyingly, if I try to search this section for "smoothest rom", the site hangs...so I thought I may aswell make a thread about it, since the search feature doesn't fancy playing ball.
Currently on Paranoid Android, and have just realised that yes, it may well be a kick-ass ROM with amazing features, but I'm using none of them. I'm not using pie, nor am I using its hybrid engine. Sooo...I wanted to know which ROM (for Maguro) is the fastest/smoothest. Not the one with the most, or with the best features...just in terms of speed and smoothness?
Oh and also a quick side note...another sudden realisation of mine, my contract runs out just after the Nexus 5 will probably be released (this coming winter)...woop woop,...good timing, eh?
Anyways, I'd be really greatful for any suggestions for which ROM to switch to!
Cheers!
IMO stock or something close to it (buglessbeast, etc). Grab a nice kernel too and you'll have the best speed/stability

Best ROM threads aren't allowed, these threads normally go the wrong way. I suggest you try a few or look at features and see which one would best fit your needs. Thanks for your understanding.

I just got this phone. i've been a g1 user for a while and now i want to get some ideas on everyone's favorite ROM. I'm going to read through and pick one i like, just want some idea of what everyone here runs
I'd suggest u try them all and make a choice. ROMs are like mates there isnt a best one just one best for you.
As Bxsteez said, there is no overall best. But I rather like the EnergyROM releases. I ran the last Warhawk for about a week without seeing any of the posted bugs, but just upgraded to the Genesis line.
The AtomAng ROM is popular, as well. Just go poke around in the ROM dev thread. Try them all. I went through 4 or 5 in the span of 2 days, before I settled on Energy.
hey thanks. i actually just put on the energy ROM and i think i'm in love...don't get me wrong i loved android but this is dope
Theres an Energy Windows mobile 6.5 ROM that's dead stable, stick to manilla 2.1 for now though if you want stability, i'm using a manilla 2.5 ROM and even though i love the new 'swish' features... bug free it aint.
I'd go for the bottom one of the 3.... tried and tested

The best ROM
This has been asked and answered so many times...there is no such "best ROM"
The best ROM is the one that fits better for your personal needs.
My best ROM could not be your best
Try severals till you get the one you like more!

Well your title thread was asking for the best, not for the most popular
Anyway, glad to see you finally search and found your best ROM.
So I don't wanna read the whole thread... which is the best ROM?
Nah Just kidding, I've been using energyrom, since I got the phone, and I love it, like everything about it how its organized, how it grapically looks stock, and how it performs. I lik 6.5 roms, and I'm not into the guys toying with the 2.5 and 2.6 cause I'm tired of beta testing, I want a phone I can enjoy
and as far as android goes, I didn't like it, I haven't followed it since I bricked my G1 beta testing for JF, but I felt suffocated using, I like the free of winmo, and the piracy!
EnergyRom vs MightyRom?
What about performance wise?
Feature wise?
I'm finally tired of seeing everyones phones blow by mine speed wise so I think its time to find a faster rom than the stock. I don't need a ton of extras or themes, just the closest to stock experience with more speed. I'm leaning towards Virtuous G-Lite. Its not the overclockest I know, but it seems near-stockest. Any opinions/reviews are welcome!

search please. search!!!!
Its been asked a million times. You will find people with every single ROM under the sun that will say it works for them. It is 100% personal preference.
Just go through the dev section, read the description and features, look through the comments in the thread, and if you like it then flash it.
You can always go back to your current ROM. Just make nandroid backups of every ROM you try and you can switch back and forth until you choose one you like.
The most popular AOSP (close to stock) ROMs are CM7, G-lite, and super simple ROMs like Xboarder56's stock.
Well I was moreso looking for a list of the closest to stock (AOSP) which you provided, and I have looked over the features of CM7 and G-lite, which is why I was leaning towards G-lite, I was just looking for personal experience because you can read features of a million and a half different roms, (which I have) but none will list "buggy as hell" or "eats battery" in their feature list. Thank you for the response!

But thats why I indicate that you read through some recent posts in the ROM thread. If its a good ROM people will actively be posting and following the issues and you can see them there.
And even at that point, its all how they're personally using and setting up the ROM. Their experience can be quite different from yours. If it works for you, then that's what matters. I really recommend just flashing and trying yourself.
In the amount of time you made these posts and read the replies, you easily could have just flashed one of those ROMs and be trying it out. Seriously, flashing a ROM is fast and simple (if already rooted and S-Off), just start flashing and see what you like. Even if you got tons of advice and opinions on the ROMs, the real proof is in the pudding, and trying them yourself.
As far as I know there is g-lite gingerbliss i think that are stock looking, but I know most aosp roms like cyanogen will look similar since the G2 stock rom was pretty much vanilla android. I was looking for the same thing and went with the completely stock prer00ted GB and it is way faster than froyo! I was gonna overclock but i'm kinda happy with it. I'll prob give g-lite a spin when they update one more time
Hi everyone,
Currently running the older DFT rom on my hd2. I am looking to upgrade the OS. Suggestions? Also, should the same radio rom I used, be used again. I've been trying to cram my brain with as much info as possible here. Really great site! Anyway. I'm in Chicago, using t-mobile.
Thanks in advance!

Wrong Section
Do you know that this section is for Android Development and not for questions. If you go back one subforum, you will find a section called "HD2 Android Q&A". That is where this question should be posted.
Mod please move to the Q&A section
To answer your question: There is no best rom, you will have to try some to find the best. Every HD2 is a little bit different and users tastes are different. Flash, flash, flash and you will find your perfect rom.
think this is posted in the wrong section m8
On the subject no-one can tell you what the best rom is other than yourself each persons needs differ
miui - sense - ics are just a few of the many choices you have best to just tesdt run a few see what best works for you
Personally i prefer miui for overall performance battery life and ease of use
sense roms are more sluggish but have more eye candy
ics is the one to go for when all the bugs are fixed i would stay clear just now unless you want to contribute to beta testing
Yeah, I'm really sorry. I noticed right after I posted it. I was actually in the process of searching for a moderator as I got your reply.
Sorry again and thanks!
Hello there everyone. I have been browsing this site for about the past 2 years but only decided to register because I am upgrading from my OG Droid Incredible to the Nexus and i see how large and active the Dev base is for this device. I have a fair amount of experience with flashing roms on my Dinc (currently running CM7.2) and am excited to make the move to ICS.
I would like some opinions on what you guys think are the best custom roms out for the nexus though. so far I am very interested in AOKP because it seems to be the most stable and polished rom i have seen. I plan to flash my nexus right out of the box when i get it.
Also, i can't seem to find a place to add a signature in the Cpanel, is there one somewhere or do you guys just add on a Copy/Paste to the end of posts?
If you've been around this site for a couple of years now you should know that asking "what the best ROM is" only leads to closed threads. Its all a matter of opinion. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another.. why this person thinks this ROM is the best, another person may think the opposite. It's best to try them out for yourself, see which one YOU like.
As far as editing your sig.. at the top somewhere on your PC, you'll see User CP (user control panel).. click it. Then look to the left if your screen.. along the sidebar you should see Edit Signature. ..if that's what your referring to!

i'm sorry if i come off like i want to know what the "best rom" is, i know that there is no best rom and like you said what works for one person may not work for another. that being said, some personal opinions about their taste in roms are still useful are they not?. and i do fully intend to try out several roms. as for my experience with this site, 90% of it has been with viewing the first page of rom posts, so i apologize for my ignorance in that regard. and i thoroughly searched through the user control panel to no avail, signatures must be disabled for me if that is where the interface to change them is located.
[EDIT] the reason joined this site is because with the nexus, i would actually like to get involved in the dev community and create something new, i was trying to use this thread more as a "say hi" kind of thread than just asking about what rom i should get. i dont think i accomplished that very well.
My advice is to just unlock bootloader, root and then run STOCK ROM. I have been running ROMS on phones here for a long time and for the first time on a phone think at this point the STOCK rom is the best and most stable. Next to it I would say Mikes AHRD is a great stable rom and that is always his goal. But try them all if you like. I would stay STOCK>
well, I got brave and rooted my S3, and was looking to go further by trying a rom.
This is my first smartphone, so I don't have a lot of experience with different models, but I like touchwiz, and enjoy S voice and search google via voice to text. Actually, there is not a lot about this phone that I don't like. That said, I always believe a product can be made better.
I read a post somewhere a few days ago where someone commented that they had tried a variety of roms, but ended up going back to a modified sammy rom because Cyanogen and AOKP roms removed all of the stuff that made his S3 special. He commented that it made it feel like a 2 year old Nexus. Not having tried any of these roms, I cannot vouch for the truth in this, but it makes sense, and I too want my S3 to be "special... plus"
Some of the things I'm looking for in a rom are
keeping s voice
a toggle mod
some debloating
Beats audio, or similar
I would like a translucent status bar (is that what is called?) .. the thing you pull down from the homescreen
Free GS3 might be an option, but its a T mobile port, and I'm not sure about it.
any recommendations are certainly welcome.
Thanks...
Re: [Q] ROM Suggestions
Welcome to android!
Before a mod shuts this down because these types of threads don't get to stay and your in the wrong section as well. I will tell your best bet is to read, read some more and then try some out. There a lot of great roms but your the only one who will know if its right for you.
Good luck!

thanks. My bad, whats the right section?
noobs like me can't post in the developers forums
BTW, I've been reading, and reading and reading some more, but recommendations are always welcome.
I did run across a similar thread, but of course it was a general android question, not specific to At&t, which is what I have.
This is very simple if you want a reliable non bug all features working rom... just stay with stock... all other roms are not perfect, they will give you some but it will also lack on something, I have try them all and always come back to stock.

Thanks, I had considered that possibility, but thought I would ask.
Q&A Should be where questions go. I would also say there are many solid stable roms. Read, read and try as many as you want. All phones are not 100% the same and your apps and setups can effect how it runs.
Good luck

There are multiple threads in this (General) section and the Q&A section. Please search and read those threads for opinions, options, etc. Moreover ROMs are a personal choice, and are subjective to user experience. I'd suggest making a nandroid backup, flash a ROM, if you don't like it, restore your backup and try another.
Thread Closed.
P.S. Welcome to Android and XDA.
