Stuck on htc quietly brilliant screen - HTC One X

Hi,
I'd say that for around 90% of roms that I flash I can never get past the white HTC screen (leaving each one for around 20 minutes to see if anything happens).
Using CWM I wipe the phone, flash the ROM, and flash the boot.img . But most of the time this doesn't work. The only two roms that HAVE worked for me are Android Revolution HD and Viper.
Does anyone have any idea why this is the case? Could it be to do with my HBOOT version? (1.39.0000)
Every solution that I have found on here is to flash the boot.img from the rom. But I've done that.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Tom

did you flash the boot.img??

Yep, I've tried flashing it before and after flashing the ROM. The weird thing is that it works with two ROMS, but not with others (like Cyanogenmod or Paranoid Android)

those have a different type of installation steps...

you have to flash the boot.img through fastboot you know, because one x has no s-off. won't work if you flash boot with cwm recovery

Odp: Stuck on htc quietly brilliant screen
You should also write : fastboot erase cache, after flashing boot.img.

I've still not managed to get most roms to work Could it be something to do with them not being based on the 3.14 RUU? I've jumped up to Android 4.2.2 now and am loving it anyway

And the CM10 needs a modified boot.img file to run on JB hboots.....

usually getting stuck on the htc screen means the kernel you flashed is not compatible with the rom...
apologies if you know this already... but when you get a new rom it's stored in a zip archive, within the zip file a boot.img is usually supplied, it is usually important to flash this boot.img file to enable the rom to boot your phone.
i suspect the two roms you have managed to get to work are happy with which ever kernel version you have.
for example on hboot 1.39 you can flash renovate rom and xminster kernel and have no problems...

Download root checker from Google play and check. If u can boot into recovery, u can flash ROMs if ur unlocked via HTCdev. And remember: Always flash boot.img extracted from the .zip file of the ROM before flashing or before first boot, otherwise u will get bootloop/stuck on splashscreen.

Flash the boot.img in fastboot then the Rom in cwm

BTW, trust me on this as i ve tried 8 roms in past 5 days. charmeleon wins over leedroid. there are more tweaks and better battery life in charmeleon by a long run. ALSO, match any rom with faux, instant 3+ hour screen through a whole day moderate usage. BE SURE TO UNDERVOLT~ happy flashing, and may the bricks stay away from you.

Q about boot img

Hi was wondering if somebody can help me. I am new to htc devices and am learning loads about how a phone operates ect due to no s off but was wondering.
if I was on htc custom jb rom ie insercoin but wanted to flash another stock based rom ie miui australia or any other stock based do I have to flash the boot image as I assume there using the same kernel. Is this correct and can it be done. Im probaly miles off. Also can a boot image be flashed through terminal emulator on phone
Im prepared to read but couldn't find a explanation so a link would also be appreciated

You always have to flash the boot.img from the rom you are about to flash ! Even if its the same, just to avoid any problems !
You can't flash a boot.img inside a running OS. This has to be done with the phone in fastboot usb mode and fastboot commands from pc (cmd prompt)
Hope this helps a bit
Edit : this has some info about flashing ....

The boot.img contains both kernel and ramdisk
The kernel might not change that much between releases but the ramdisk certainly does
You would likely find that if you don't flash the boot.img then you will just get boot loops
And to your second point. Due to the security on newer HTC phones. You cannot flash a boot.img anyway other than in fastboot.
With s-off you could but as of this moment there is no way of achieving s-off
With s-off the boot.img would automatically be flashed when you install the rom in recovery

Thanks. So when you repack a boot image are you using kernel and rom specific ramdisk
sent from my highgrade HTC one x
Yes.
Repacking is merging a new kernel with the ROMs ramdisk

[Q] Correct Boot.img For HBoot 1.39?

First off, sorry for posting here, I'd like to post in the actual rom thread but I don't have 10 posts yet.
I've installed the avatar rom, its getting to the custom splash screen and then freezing.
This is normally a boot.img problem.
The thing is just I've updated my HBoot to 1.39 and I don't know what boot.img files are compatible.
I've flashed several boot.img files from various roms I've used before, but none seem to be working.
The last comment in the avatar thread is this :
If you're on the new hboot you need a special boot.img that is everywhere on the forums.

Does anybody have any idea where I can find this boot.img that is everywhere on the forums?
Because I can't find it....
You just flash the boot image from within the Rom zip file?
I do that with every other Rom I've tried. I have no idea if/why that Rom requires a special boot.img.

Because some ROMs are incompatible with newer hboots.
@OP
See attachment. I am assuming that a modded boot for CM10 does the trick since Avatar is heavily based on CyanogenMod. Let me know if it works.
You must always use the boot.img supplied in ROM.zip. If you flash ROM A and then use boot.img from ROM B, it ain't going to work.
At the moment you need a special boot.img with nearly all 4.1.x AOSP ROMs, with a new hboot version. With 4.2.x ROMs you don't need any tinkering just flash and go.
Thanks for the modded boot.
Yes dude.
It works.
You awesome genius bastard you.
My pleasure!
It might be worth noting that GPS is broken with this boot. No workaround yet, you need to flash an Android 4.2 ROM if you really need to use it.
Haha dude, spent 3 hours trying to get this ONTO my phone.
I think it'll stay for at least a day or two...
Thanks again.
I need help to recover
Hi,
I am new to rooting, I've unlocked my HTC One X, and have backed up the stock rom through the recovery nandroid, I've flashed the Renovate 1.1 ROM, then I've decided to go back to stock ROM, when I've done it I would be stuck on Airplane mode, and this happened when I first tried to flash the renovate without flashing the boot.img that comes with it...when I've flashed the boot.img the problem is solved...so now I need help getting the boot.img file for the backed up stock rom...any ideas where I can start from?

Hi,
Ive done a quick search and cannot find a straight answer, i dont own HTC one x but need to modify a friends phone. as far as im aware they have a custom 4.1 rom and CWM etc.
Do i need to flash boot.img for every rom regardless of what it says on the post? some dont mention it... just want to be sure!

If the rom uses stock kernel, then no but you may lose ram disk tweaks for that rom.

Basically, Yes. If you switch over to a different ROM you have to flash the new boot image. Sometimes the boot image is also updated with a new version of a ROM in that case you have to flash the new Boot Image too.
You can install rom without flash boot.img only if you device is S-Off.
If your are S-On, you have to flash boot.img everytime you install a new rom.
I have a Desire S-Off and i can flash which rom i want without flash boot.img.
For my Sensation XE, it's the same.
For my HOX, i have to flash everytime i change my rom.

No. No. No.
Some or most kernels and ROM's for the OneX are NOT set up to flash the boot.img in recovery precisely because there is no method to S-Off the phone. Devs have simply stopped implementing the method. I have no idea which ones can and cannot so err on the side NONE can and you cannot go wrong.
Always flash, in fastboot, the given boot.img for every ROM is the general basic rule.

If both roms are using stock kernel and on the same base and you don't mind losing the roms ram disk tweaks you really don't need to flash.
Same if you are using a custom kernel.
So long as the kernel/base match you would just need to flash the modules.

If you use Android 4.2.2 with sense 5, you only flash boot.img one time and flash any rom except Alex-V's rom. Because still now, all sense 5 rom using stock kernek
If you flash cm, you must flash boot.img every time you flash difference rom
if your device already s-off and super-cid you flash rom normal no need flash boot.img except some rom not allow flash boot.img in update-script
Thanks all!

Stuck in Recovery & can't start any ROM

Hi!
I just HTCdev unlocked the bootloader and rooted the HTC Desire HD and everything was fine. I was in the stock ROM rooted, so I flashed the recovery and then I tried to install some ROMs and everything failed, I was stucked in the HTC loading screen...
I tried to flash several ROMs but the result was always the same: stuck in the loading screen. I did a full wipe everytime of course, but it didn´t solve anything.
At the end I tried to flash this:
[ROM][DEC 8] Official RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1 STOCK ROOTED
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
And it worked!
But if I tried to flash another ROM like SlimBean but again, stucked...
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
This rom is old school. U need an old recovery..what rom are u interested in...cm.. or sense?
