First off, sorry for posting here, I'd like to post in the actual rom thread but I don't have 10 posts yet.
I've installed the avatar rom, its getting to the custom splash screen and then freezing.
This is normally a boot.img problem.
The thing is just I've updated my HBoot to 1.39 and I don't know what boot.img files are compatible.
I've flashed several boot.img files from various roms I've used before, but none seem to be working.
The last comment in the avatar thread is this :
If you're on the new hboot you need a special boot.img that is everywhere on the forums.

Does anybody have any idea where I can find this boot.img that is everywhere on the forums?
Because I can't find it....
You just flash the boot image from within the Rom zip file?
I do that with every other Rom I've tried. I have no idea if/why that Rom requires a special boot.img.

Because some ROMs are incompatible with newer hboots.
@OP
See attachment. I am assuming that a modded boot for CM10 does the trick since Avatar is heavily based on CyanogenMod. Let me know if it works.
You must always use the boot.img supplied in ROM.zip. If you flash ROM A and then use boot.img from ROM B, it ain't going to work.
At the moment you need a special boot.img with nearly all 4.1.x AOSP ROMs, with a new hboot version. With 4.2.x ROMs you don't need any tinkering just flash and go.
Thanks for the modded boot.
Yes dude.
It works.
You awesome genius bastard you.
My pleasure!
It might be worth noting that GPS is broken with this boot. No workaround yet, you need to flash an Android 4.2 ROM if you really need to use it.
Haha dude, spent 3 hours trying to get this ONTO my phone.
I think it'll stay for at least a day or two...
Thanks again.
I need help to recover
Hi,
I am new to rooting, I've unlocked my HTC One X, and have backed up the stock rom through the recovery nandroid, I've flashed the Renovate 1.1 ROM, then I've decided to go back to stock ROM, when I've done it I would be stuck on Airplane mode, and this happened when I first tried to flash the renovate without flashing the boot.img that comes with it...when I've flashed the boot.img the problem is solved...so now I need help getting the boot.img file for the backed up stock rom...any ideas where I can start from?

Superboot is only temporarily installed, it will be removed once you reboot. You need the right boot.img for your currently installed ROM.
What is your ROM prior to trying install CM10 ?

That was the official ROM. Never did that before. Started yesterday to unlock it, and first time trying to change the ROM. So that was the official.
Try KISS kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765687
Use the For stock ROM and all other NOT CM based ROMS, the "Without preset"
Once it boot, check what is your official software version.

Now you made me worry. You shouldn't try the custom rom when you don't know what you should do with the boot.img. Just like you tried a wrong version of CM10 that is meant for PrimoC but you flashed it on a PrimoU. That's the start of your problem.

The red message comes with the recovery. Nothing can be done about it at the moment.
So enjoy your working phone And read more before you proceed with anything.

That is more on personal preference, you need to try all of them and decide which suit your needs.
Most important, make a nandroid backup of your current ROM before you proceed to flash other ROMs. Take note of your current official ROM software version no. and make sure only flash the PrimoU/GSM ROM.

Better to stay stock and rooted as you have done now. Wait for some time (days),go through important forums and try to understand what needs to be done and what should be avoided. The devs here are awesome and the one v too. So be careful of trying new ones as soon as you see a rom thread in the dev section.

Thanks mate yep in theory but not sure how u revert back to ics from jb
You can flash an ics rom on the higher hboots, no problem (at least not with sense roms) and use the custom kernels too. If you want a fully stock ics rom you can check your cid and download a matching ics nandroid backup from the nandroid collection in the general forum (the thread from matt95)
Just restore it and you will have a custom "stock" rom on your higher Hboot.....

Hi,
I didn't know about that font changer app until now. You should've said something about it in the original thread.
I assume you didn't backup your stock rom in recovery, so you have to flash something else.
Yesterday you said you want to have a custom rom and not the original stock rom so the question goes:
Do you want a ROM with HTC Sense skin or a pure Android without Sense (AOSP)?
If you want your mobile running in no time, I recommend either a ICS Sense ROM or ICS/JB AOSP ROM.
If you want a JB Sense ROM it will be more work for you and a slower process.
Pick between those and I will give advice on what particular ROM yous should choose.
You can take a look here for Sense roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1536
and here for AOSP-ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1684
My personal recommendation is the official CyanogenMod ROM, which is based on AOSP and is very stable and fluid.
Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
When you have chosen your ROM, or have questions, I will help you.

hi guys
im having problems in flashing many roms
these are some information about my phone
Build: 3.14.401.31
Hboot: 1.36.000
CID: HTC_101
RECOVERY : TWRP v.2
i was able to flash roms as Android revolution, viper, blade, ordroid
but i failed with these roms
Sky Dragon v.16.2 Ultimate - phone restarts repeatedly
airplane mode it's in "turning off" so there is no signal on:
MIUI; Orio; Insertcoin
force close of android process:
Sentinel Rom; CyanogenMod; Ice cold jelly; Slim beam; Nik Project
Paranoid Android - phone stucks on boot screen
those roms should work on my phone as hboot version is supported. Why all these problems?
Is your install procedures correct.
Flash the boot.img, make a FULL wipe and install the rom.....i know its basic but safe to ask first

I had a desire hd and, because of the s-off, things were much practical. Thought i was ignoring checking something important, but wasn't able to understand what..
ps. i apologize for my bad english
Can't think of the missing link yet. I know that the miui roms often needs a different boot.img to boot correctly. The others should easily work.....
Did you checked the MD5 sums from the roms that didn't boot ?
yes, for some of them i checked.
Tried changing even the recovery but it didn't work. Actually i have this problems since i unlocked the phone (december). But a the time i read that aosp roms wasn't compatible with the new hboot versions, so i never saw this as a real problem untill a few weeks ago..

just tried to flash a few aosp roms but, when they boot, it repeatedly says process com.android.phone force close. Instead Paranoidandroid remain stuck on the boot screen
basically the same problems that i had with hboot 1.36
Probably a Rom issue i guess !
I don't know Hofs, it's very strange. We're talking about different roms. As far as i searched i found a very little number of persons with some of those issues and they were able to solve the problem just trying to reflash the roms (maybe because their problem was just a bad download).
Downloading another rom from the list of the not working ones, let's hope it works
Edit. Skydragon doesn't work either

Basically, Yes. If you switch over to a different ROM you have to flash the new boot image. Sometimes the boot image is also updated with a new version of a ROM in that case you have to flash the new Boot Image too.
You can install rom without flash boot.img only if you device is S-Off.
If your are S-On, you have to flash boot.img everytime you install a new rom.
I have a Desire S-Off and i can flash which rom i want without flash boot.img.
For my Sensation XE, it's the same.
For my HOX, i have to flash everytime i change my rom.

No. No. No.
Some or most kernels and ROM's for the OneX are NOT set up to flash the boot.img in recovery precisely because there is no method to S-Off the phone. Devs have simply stopped implementing the method. I have no idea which ones can and cannot so err on the side NONE can and you cannot go wrong.
Always flash, in fastboot, the given boot.img for every ROM is the general basic rule.

If both roms are using stock kernel and on the same base and you don't mind losing the roms ram disk tweaks you really don't need to flash.
Same if you are using a custom kernel.
So long as the kernel/base match you would just need to flash the modules.

If you use Android 4.2.2 with sense 5, you only flash boot.img one time and flash any rom except Alex-V's rom. Because still now, all sense 5 rom using stock kernek
If you flash cm, you must flash boot.img every time you flash difference rom
if your device already s-off and super-cid you flash rom normal no need flash boot.img except some rom not allow flash boot.img in update-script
Thanks all!
