I tried the Oxygen v2.0-RC7 rom a few days ago. Has been working relatively well with some minor bugs (like not being able to move icons without them dissapoearing). But yesterday something really odd happened and got me kinda worried.
I turned the sound off on the phone via the lockscreen, then locked the phone in my locker when i worked out. The battery was at about 80% at the time. When i came back about two hours later my phone was _REALLY_ hot and the battery was totally drained and the phone dead (ofc).
Anyone else experienced this? New user here so can't post in the official thread for the rom. What got me worried was that the phone was getting extremely hot.
There is nothing wrong with the ROM as far as battery drain is concerned. I have been running RC7 since release and with my current configuration get almost 3 days of battery usage before I need to re-charge.
I would suggest that it is more likely to be a rogue application that is constantly running in the background eating the battery.
If the phone was getting hot, I would suggest that an application is hammering the CPU (such as navigation) which would drain the battery pretty fast.
Odd thing is, I had the phone in my pocket for maybe 3 hours prior to this incident. Then it was at about 80% (remember because I checked when i turned off the sound). Then only thing I did was turn off the sound via the lockscreen. Didn't even unlock the phone at all. Then this happened.
Seems really strange. But it has only happened this once, and it is a homebuilt rom so I don't really expect everything to be perfect. Just that I've had the phone run hot before, just not this hot.
Was actually worried it had broke before i got home and put the charger in It was completely dead. Couldn't even start to boot up that you sometimes can do when the phone has died and then rested for a few mins.
could be a faulty handset, i had issues with my phone running out of battery pretty fast and after a warrenty replacement seems to have sorted it.
phone shouldnt be over heating...

Wasn't a metal locker, by any chance ? A metal locker would function as a faraday cage, meaning your phone would get at best a very weak signal, and would be using maximum power to try and communicate with the base station. Would explain why the phone was hot, too.
My phone has been acting weird lately. Just want to see what the consensus is. phone battery drains ok until I turn on A gps program will be about 90% battery gps will be on for about 5 minutes the phone shuts off restart and battery reads 40%. Then the phone keeps dying. Any thoughts im assuming its the battery but you all might know something i dont.
P.s. The phone is stock rom tilt 2
Thanks
That sounds like battery to me, but that doesn't mean there isn't also an issue with the phone...
If any of your buddies has an EVO or another TP2 (I can't remember what other batteries would work right now...) that you could try in your phone to rule that out?
If not, batteries aren't that expensive. I wouldn't go for the absolute cheapest on ebay either, find something that's got a brand name...
Thank you, a quick add on as to why it may not be the battery. I could'nt type it all out earlier because I was on my gfs phone.
I was away from a charger so just left it off for about 4 hours. Started it out of habit now its showing 80% after no charging. I also didn't mention Ive done a hard reset on it still get the same issue, everything is fine wi-fi for extended periods talking texting but as soon as I use gps it shuts down in about 3 minutes.
This is also a new issue and I have not recently added anything to my phone.
Edit: Update again tried to make a call and it died.. Ill take the suggestions and get a new batt.

You could also try a hard reset, flash a different ROM, etc.
Thanks for keeping on the thread, Tried the hard reset, the rom is what came with the phone never done a different one
New Battery is on the way. Something is screwy with it but we shall see.. If its not the battery I suppose Ill need to start looking for a replacement or an upgrade. Thank you for your input on the subject.
Within a second my Captivate Glide will suddenly go to 0% power then slowly charge back up over time..or if I charge it, it jumps back up to about where it left off. And it happens pretty much every time I turn my phone on for more then 5 mins. It seems to happen while sending or receiving text? Any ideas what could be causing this or a solution?
I keep my data off, and theres 3 apps (Stock SMS Messenger, Handcent SMS, and the Contacts+ App) that can handle SMS on my phone, and I have locker pro that displays my notifications. And I also use the Nova Launcher, but thats the only app's I keep running. Maybe a conflict with the apps or a bug with one of the apps? I don't see how that'd effect the battery that much but possibly?
I've also changed my ROM a few times, but right now I'm back on the newest ICS update and I've rooted it. Maybe I need to change it again? I can't remember if this problem started happening before I did my last change.
Or maybe just a bad battery? I don't know much about batteries but I haven't had this phone long, I don't think it'd be the battery.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask and I appreciate any help!

I had about the same problem, with it working fine with a decent charge (anywhere between 30-80%), and all of the sudden it would say "battery critically low" and shut down. Putting it on the charger would often get the charge to show what it was before it freaked out.
I noticed that the battery was starting to bulge and get somewhat "mushy"....which told me the battery was probably going to explode or leak if I didn't replace it soon
I have had the phone for a year and four days, and this just showed up in the last few days...fortunately I bought an extended warranty and they will pay for the replacement battery I just picked up today.
FYI, the battery should be totally flat on both sides. Mine would wobble if I set it on a table.
Ok, TL1170, Thanks!
I already narrowed it down to my battery by the time you posted that because I factory reset my phone multiple times and changed the ROM once to see if that'd help, and it didn't..I was running out of stuff to blame it on ..
But yeah, my battery is pretty badly deformed and I just ordered a new one.
Thanks, mine is doing the same thing - about once every 2 days or so. I can see in the battery life plot that it sometimes goes from 90% almost completely vertically to 0% and then right back up to 90%. I don't see any obvious bulges or "mushiness" to it, but it doesn't seem to be completely flat when put on a table. I'll see if I can get a replacement battery, this phone was not used by it's previous owner for maybe a year or so before I bought it, maybe that might have been part of the problem.

Any time a battery is misshaped it can do the oddest things.
Pull out and visually inspect your battery. If there are any visible cracks or bulges, dispose of it carefully. Damaged lithium ion batteries are incredibly dangerous; a properly pissed off LIon will produce a sizable fireball.
If your battery looks fine, fully charge it (until your phone says "100%" or "Charged"), then fully discharge it (don't connect to the charger again until your phone shuts off for lack of power). This is to calibrate the charge estimator chip in the battery itself. Don't bother with batterystats.bin, it's completely unrelated.
If the above doesn't work, you need a new battery. If the new battery behaves the same way, you need a new phone
Happening to us too
It's been happening to my phone for a while now, but I'm usually using it while at a desk so I can keep it charging. However, it just started happening to my wife's Captivate Glide also. I checked my battery and don't notice any bulging or non-flatness... but it happens about once or twice a day now - Pretty much anytime I do anything more than make a call with the battery indicator saying it's somewhere less than maybe 90% charged. I've taken to using a portable backup battery when I'm out.
If you view the battery usage screens, you can see the cliffs where it drops from 80-90% down to zero and right back up. We've only had them for about a year, so I'm going to take it to AT&T and see if they can do anything for it... probably not.

If you're really desperate to get those particular batteries working, you could try cleaning the contacts, both on the battery and in the phone, with rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. But most likely you will need new batteries.
Battery( low power) Shut Down Issue Fixed
I also was having the "critical powerl level" shut down issue over the past two weeks. My phone is about two years old, and there was a few occasions in the past two weeks where i pulled it out of my pocket and it was off. Then this past week the phone (on a full charge) would go anywhere from around 90% sometimes %40, and then all of a sudden say "battery low" and shut off. It would turn back on, but would only stay on for a few minutes. And a few times it also got really hot. It wasnt doing this when plugged into the wall so i examined my battery and there was NO visible flaws or bulging of any kind, it looked fine. But as we all know just because it looks good certainly doesnt mean it is so i odered one on ebay for about $10. It arrived 2-3 days later and instantly fixed my problem. The phone is fine now and hasnt done anything wierd. It was the battery. These batteries have a limited life span, and very often the phone may say the battery is 76% charged but the capacity of the battery under load can still draw it down to 0%. You cant always trust the level the phone says its at. So if anyone else out there is having this power issue it really isnt expensive to find a good battery out there. The one i got was $9.98 and it is a Samsung battery identical to the one that came with the phone. Except the new one has a fresh date of 2013 on it. Very happy to have my phone back. Ive never been a part of any sites like this, but im posting here now because there seems to be a lot of people having this issue, and often someone will put a very complex procedure on these sites to fix an issue when its not always necessary. If you have the power/shut off issue like i've described here and your phone does the same as mine was its probably the battery, and for the price of a new one like i got, its worth trying.
Hello everyone. newbie here.
My sony Z1c seems to have developed a bug/issue. 2 days ago my phone was on charge, green led at the top was on and my battery showed at 100%. I unplugged the device jumped into bed, set my alarms as usual. I then woke up 2 hours later then i should of to find my z1c was dead. Nothing was running in the background etc so instantly knew something was up. Tried charging my phone at work via usb>pc and it kept saying my phone is losing charge quicker then its charging (never seen this message before) . I could turn the phone on but the battery level stayed at 2%, as soon as it was unplugged from the pc it would instantly die.
When i got home i done a few "reset" searches and come across the hold volume up and power at the same time until phone vibrates method. This now seems to allow my phone to charge normally again and the battery goes past 2%. However again today my phone went dead overnight. So the issue is still there, im just able to charge the device again.
I dont appear to have anything running in the background
havent done any firmware, software, app updates in the last couple of days (again that im aware off, unless they forced any)
also noticed the phone gets extremely hot at periods for unknown reasons?
Anyone here able to help or advice? is this a faulty battery, software, firmware issue etc? any fixes
d5503
running 4.4.4
14.4.a.0.108
Thanks in advance
Have you tried a different charger? Charge it using wall charger with supplied cable. I don't think firmware is draining your battery. Possible that u r caught up with a faulty battery if u don't have any issues with charger.
My advice "Head to Sony Service Centre asap".
Have you 'ever' installed any custom ROM on this phone then reflashed/restored something later after accquired? It could be the underlying system's battery state is different than the current running OS' one. Try calibrating the battery a couple of times to see if that make any difference.
Hello. Thank you for the replies.
The phone charges correctly via mains and usb(laptop,ps4 etc) since i done that power+volume up reset. Pretty sure my leads and plug are fine. i could try different usb leads though. the charge level is certainly showing me 100% charge
I have never used any ROM's or Roots. i dont know fully what they are. I used to have a jailbroken iphone so it sounds similar. Id be prepared to do down any of them routes if it fixes my phone
Everything updated has been official releases. I dont appear to of updated anything recently though so i cant put it down to a system update or new app update. - something might have glitched somewhere i dunno
Charged the phone during my first post and again it says its gone to 100% after a couple of hours. unplugged the charger. restarted the phone and checked nothing that hasnt been on for the last 3 months hasnt turnt on and all seems fine there. So just left it in standby
checked it 10minutes later to see charge levels. am down to 87%
using gsm battery app it says 68.9% app usage, when i click that
android system 53%
kernel (andoid os) 19.5%
then i have a list of other stuff running all be 2%
them 2 shouldnt be that high should they?
then when i go default settings>power> batt usage
android system 37%
googleplay service 21% (doesnt appear to be updating/syncing anything. should all be off. never used syncing)
screen 14%
android OS 5%
cell standby 5%
the rest of the list are 2's and 1's
phone was cool when charging, since rebooting the device and unplugging it, its now getting hot??? would of expected it to be the other way around!!!
Might want to give it a go of this:

Sorry, newbie can't post URL yet:crying:
Hi again, Jcw i done a full factory result and everything now appears to be fine now. Phone has been on for 3hours standby and on 98% battery, It would have been dead by now and extremely hot at the back. Now running alot cooler. Thanks for the advice.
Have no idea what happened. Something was seriously draining the battery though. Glad its fixed. Thanks again
I've had my TAB PRO 8.4 since about half a year now, and it's been a really good experience. But then suddenly one day I was just using it for my daily tasks and it suddenly restarted and then it did it again and again, it got stuck in a bootloop. Then it drained the battery and stopped, when I came back home I tried charging it normally, but noticed it wasn't charging past a certain percentage, and since I was also playing with it while it was plugged in then I just thought it was just because of that.
After that, I left it plugged in all night as I've always done but when I woke up, it was STILL STUCK at that percentage (around 25%). It was like that for a couple days with the battery, I restarted the device (longpressing the power/lock key), when I it came back ON then suddenly the battery percentage jumped to around 51% and I thought it was solved but it wasn't, then it didn't want to go past that percentage, and the worst came when I unplugged the device and the battery drained incredibly quickly, like in a matter of seconds it was down more than 10% of the battery.
It's been like this since about a week now, the charging process gets stuck at some random percentage, and when I use it while unplugged then the battery just drains in such a crazy and quick manner. And also, the bootloops come back every once in a while and I have to go into safe mode or odin mode and then restart so that it stops, but the battery/charging issue never stops, it just behaves randomly crazy. I really don't know if it's software or hardware, whether I should try rooting or something like that, or whether I should try to send it to Samsung under the 1year warranty (it's just that I bought it in USA, and I dont live there and it would be just a great pain in the ass in time and money) or just try to live with it like this.
What do yo guys think I should about this?

Did you ever resolve this? I'm having similar charging issues.
Kinda

Well, I kinda resolved it, at least the charging one. I had to drain all the battery down to 0% until it shut itself down, and then I turn it back on and for some crazy reason there was about 50% left but it quickly got drained and went off on 0%, then I turned it back on once more and it was 0% but still it lasted a couple minutes on and again it went off, did that process so many times until it couldn't go back on anymore. At that point, I put it on the charger and it got well charged to 100% at last, and the battery now is working kinda normal, even though the random reboot loops come back every once in a while, specially when on low battery, but that's about it.
If you ever find any definite solution for your charging issue, please contact me.
