Sup guys, just got my gs2 and almost let my buddy do it but he messed his up pretty good. What's a good way to root and flash roms on this phone and what's a good stable rom? Thanks guys for helping out.

Check the stickies, in the general section. But basically if you're on 2.3.5 use one click then rom manager.
If on 2.3.6 use odin and flash cwm then use cwm to flash a rom

Once you have clockwork mod recovery on your sgs2 you can install custom roms, and most importantly, make backups. this should be your 1st order of business.

Definitely read the stickies/FAQs.
This is what I used to root my SG2 last week:

As far as ROMs, I'm currently on Darkside 2.3 and it's perfect for me.
Edit:
After rooting and before flashing the ROM, I forgot to mention that I followed this to install CWM:

Is this app useful to us. I installed and it says I have the brick bug apparently. How dangerous is this?

It Means U have brick bug that is present in ICS Leaked Kernels! So watch out! Not to scare u or anything but its there!
Yeah this is very interesting I would love for any dev to shed some light on this.

I just installed the darkside evolution 3.. Which is a stock kernel official release by TMobile. The app still says that the phone is vulnerable and throws off the warning.
I know there are threads which tell you what it does but IM a layman in mobile development .. Need something in layman terms..
If I got the warning, does it mean I should stop flashing?

As discussed before, Its only recoveries that are compiled with ICS kernels not roms. The odin installed ICS leaks were installing a recovery using ICS kernels so when it wiped it bricked your phone.
Roms are all fine as long as your using a recovery complied with GB kernel.
Thats what i got out of it
Hey
I have tried many roms and i can't get a decent for my gio.
Cm9 and cm10 is not stable for my daily use.
Don't get me wrong , i like it very much that there are people who can do this all.:good::good::good::good::good::good:
So what i like to have is a rom that has a working stk app (need it allot ) and the sound loud enough (message sound on stock rom was not loud enough)
So can someone guide way to the right rom.
Thank u in front:laugh:

I will try (SGS2 jb v10 rom)

Hi
Thx (voetbalremco)
But I want more explain!!
Can any one help me?
My brother realy liked this rom when I showed it to him...so plz help
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk 2
i model came out later than the 'normal ace'
Has stock gingerbread updated out of the box
From outside its an ace, not from inside.
Thats why you need to check the 5830i forum and download roms there, not on the 5830 forum.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda app-developers app
Ok thx
I will check and search this rom from the 5830i forum
And I will search too in 5830
Thx alot

ace model i is not the same as ace+.
it is an ace with different modules, kernel, and updated to have 2.3 out of the box instead of froyo.
does not have armv7 processor.

I have checked this rom in the both (5830 & 5830i) forums, and the rom was in the 5830 forum
So, I think it will not work on my brother phone (5830i)
And I was want to try flashing the rom, but I remembered that I haven't the original stock rom to flash it if the custom won't work
So I will let this crap rom go to hell

I just received a Galaxy Tab3 from our cable provider as welcome gift, but I don't like the Samsung ROM. So, I opened XDA as always, but did not find any development threads in the forum? Only two threads about rooting.
Are any developers working on a custom ROM? I would like to have a stock Android ROM instead of the Samsung shizzle.

Same story as me.... If you check the threads we need CWM working first and many are working on it, there's even a G+ community
