I just installed the darkside evolution 3.. Which is a stock kernel official release by TMobile. The app still says that the phone is vulnerable and throws off the warning.
I know there are threads which tell you what it does but IM a layman in mobile development .. Need something in layman terms..
If I got the warning, does it mean I should stop flashing?

As discussed before, Its only recoveries that are compiled with ICS kernels not roms. The odin installed ICS leaks were installing a recovery using ICS kernels so when it wiped it bricked your phone.
Roms are all fine as long as your using a recovery complied with GB kernel.
Thats what i got out of it

To install a new ROM all I have to do is copy to sdcard the files, boot agar recovery do the 3 wipe steps and install? Or do I have to restore my stock recovery first then wipe?
Very sorry for my big newb question but I hope ppl can help me
Thanks.

Welcome to rooting.. so if im getting your question right you want to go to a new ROM possibly.. and youre on AOSP..well since you are new I would suggest using a one click odin (your choice ) and start from there since you are on A JB build ...
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
+1 for one click of your choice, make sure you pick a full wipe one though.
Tappin' Typin'
I would flash over the EL26 CWM kernel, first it just makes it easier for you, and is a very safe recovery to flash from.
Thank you guys, actually I just wanted to know what to do when I decide to explore others roms but for now I really like this one so Ima stay here a while I didnt knew rooting would be this cool but new roms and with apps like setcpu this is very nice, thanks again.

Oh I see well all is your choice on the path..one major thing I suggest is when moving from ROM to ROM back up your apps ..(non system apps)and make sure to wipe on a safe recoveries (Kuban kernel, agats, el26) problems can arise from dirty installs
I also suggest ROM toolbox from the play store its a great tool that basically does everything

Is freegs3 touch wiz or AOSP?
-Sent from my GS3 running CM10.-
Its 4.0.4 touchwiz, OP search around and read before making your friends phone old and out dated with problems. And no the 2.3 rootkit is obsolete now a days, IMO. Just use Odin and read on the roms what's available and which has what features and let him/her decide.

No need to flash a modem. Clean install first, then just flash the rom and flash gapps. I'm currently running Jelly Beer. :good:

Yea, I just asked someone in the Jellybeer thread if I had to worry about that, or flash a modem, or kernel. To be on the safe side.... if so, Mmm..... back on AOSP, is going to feel so good. Lol

I too am running jellybeer and it is great it will do for now till whitehawkx and cmenard relese a nice shiny new AOKP rom for us (fingers crossed) it has some AOKP features in it. All I have to say is read read read and when you are done and think you got it read again. All the info is in the the first few posts of a rom thread. just make sure that there is no modem mostr devs do not include a modem but I have notices a few that are starting to put one in so just watch if they do they usually say so because like I said it is not standard pratice.
I do have a question I have not flashed any touchwiz att roms only the unofficial cm10 and jellybeer. So on the TW roms do you have to flash o tmo kernel? The reason I ask is because on the s2 the main difference was the rotation. It was always messed up so the way to fix it was to use a tmo kernel or vice versa . Until someone made a .zip that fixed that and the device name in the build.prop so is that the same situation here.. It doesnt sound like it.
And one m ore question while I am here I posted a question in the q&A thread if anyone knows the proper lcd density. I dont like the way jellybeer is it has small fonts on the phone but everything in the market is way too big and it is driving me nutts.

That i dont know, all the note II has the same hardware, correct me if im wrong. so i dont know if flashing a tmo note II kernel with a Att TW rom will work. but CleanRom is using Persus, and i think Tmo N2 has Persus kernel, so maybe it will work
Here it is guys, i took the risks with my heart pounding every second when it was installing and booting
Using CleanRom by scrosler, here is the link
I flashed the rom, in aroma, i choosed ATT as the carrier and persus kernel, then the rest is pretty self explanatory
then i flashed Tmo modem and Tmo Persus Kernel
it booted and it is running, i powered it off and took out the battery to test if it will power back on again, and indeed it did
Clean rom works perfectly without a flaw.. no need to install any kernel, modem or anything .

What you have to understand is that your phone is never safe if you have the affected firmware version on your emmc chip. Although the software patches Samsung created were designed to help prevent it, if your phone is moving towards brick land, it will do so no matter what version, kernel, rom or recovery you have.
Unless someone finds a way to update the firmware on the emmc chip, no one with the affected version is safe.

What the hell are you saying? You know what has happened to a sds bricked phone? A wrong command has been triggered which bricked the storage on the device. So if that command is stopped from being issued then how can one have sds issue?
this is XXXDDDAAA
AFAIK, the fix basically crashes the phone when the conditions triggering SDS appear, preventing permanent damage.
So while your phone won't die it might become unstable.

Apparently the reason of sds in his case was that he had an obsolete recovery which wasn't sds safe.

There is a stickies in this forum that are fine.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529058
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26328017&postcount=123 <-- that is in a different sticky (less in depth instructions). Although with that you probably should download a more up to date recovery, but it would get you root with the old recovery.
That said...I recommend letting your friend do the work. That way he/she can learn, and if there is a problem, he/she can possibly fix it. Rather than being stuck without a device until you can get around to potentially fixing it. Especially if you plan on flashing custom ROMs and kernels.
