[Q] [Sudden Death] Does lastest custom roms protect us from SDS ? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, first im sorry for my bad english...
im just asking about SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) i know that everyone is scared like me but my questions is :
is the lastest custom roms specialy like OMEGA or Android Revolution HD are safe and secured our devices for SDS ?
anyone had SDS were using this kind of roms ?
im using TWRP 2.4.4.0 is it safe?
Thx for all.

Yeah the latest version do.
And twrp version is all right.

What you have to understand is that your phone is never safe if you have the affected firmware version on your emmc chip. Although the software patches Samsung created were designed to help prevent it, if your phone is moving towards brick land, it will do so no matter what version, kernel, rom or recovery you have.
Unless someone finds a way to update the firmware on the emmc chip, no one with the affected version is safe.

What the hell are you saying? You know what has happened to a sds bricked phone? A wrong command has been triggered which bricked the storage on the device. So if that command is stopped from being issued then how can one have sds issue?
this is XXXDDDAAA

AFAIK, the fix basically crashes the phone when the conditions triggering SDS appear, preventing permanent damage.
So while your phone won't die it might become unstable.

i tried to find the link of the thread but i dont remember where i find it but im sure i already remember someone talk about it in the forum..
i also thank everyone for the informations... everytime i touch my note is a scary moment for me cuz i dont have warranty i just bought it on internet :crying:

Don't worry. He might have been using note2core kernel which doesn't have sds patches till yet. I check the forums almost daily and I. Have never seen anyone have sds on omega 14 which is released just on Monday so I don't think I had skipped that thread.

this guy has the SDS he was on Omega 14. it becomes really scary !!!

I dont think that Omega and Android Revolution roms are safe

I pmed him to confirm the version. It was probably due to a previous version of kernel or recovery.

thank you mate for ur reply... im now on android revolution 14. i just want to ask you if i should install Perseus Kernel or no to be safe from SDS

You can rely on the latest version.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Which vers you are talking about? I just brought one note 2 and I want to update it and put it on the sky...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

He's talking about the last version of Perseus kernel, but if u just bought your Note 2, you should root it first and then install a custom rom ( i suggest Android Revolution rom ) and then intall the last version of Perseus kernel... all of that and i cant confirm you that your device is protected from Sudden Death.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Very bad news.
He is saying that he was running perseus v33. I can't say anything now.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

I already saw another guy that had sds on omega 14... so our devices are not secured even with custom roms and kernels
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

I think it's with omega only. Could you confirm the kernel and recovery from him?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Apparently the reason of sds in his case was that he had an obsolete recovery which wasn't sds safe.
Can you try to not down all the instances where people with latest stuff got sds? It would be really helpful.

I just installed the darkside evolution 3.. Which is a stock kernel official release by TMobile. The app still says that the phone is vulnerable and throws off the warning.
I know there are threads which tell you what it does but IM a layman in mobile development .. Need something in layman terms..
If I got the warning, does it mean I should stop flashing?

As discussed before, Its only recoveries that are compiled with ICS kernels not roms. The odin installed ICS leaks were installing a recovery using ICS kernels so when it wiped it bricked your phone.
Roms are all fine as long as your using a recovery complied with GB kernel.
Thats what i got out of it

The SDS bug is hardware fault so soon or late your device will die no matter what version of android, and kernel you are using the SDS fix is only a temporary fix this is a hardware fault, the only way to fix it is by changing the motherboard of the phone. I have bugged chip also and i'm just waiting my phone to die sad but this is the true .

Here i have read thread and I think needs to explain some points
-Exynose bug is fixed by samsung with bootloader with 4.1.2
I have seen your screenshot and you are on 4.1.2 so it should be fixed unless you have updated your device with Mobile odin(which doesn't flash bootloader) but you said application check saying you are not affected by exynos bug that suggest it has fixed
Once it is fixed you can't use exynos exploit method to root
You have three option to root
Cf auto root
Cwm/twrp
Prerooted rom
(read posy#2 of all in one thread in my signature)
Now sds
It is also fixed in 4.1.2
To prevent from sds, you have to care not to flash any rom/kerenl/recovery which is not sds patched
For custom stuff you can ask in concern thrrad
For stock, any 4.1.2 release in 2013 are sds fixed.

If you don't use custom rom. No matter just put the latest firmware.
If you enjoy custom you must put a custom kernel and another recovery like pgilz or twrp

It's the build number/version. Can't exactly remember how to check it on Samsung roms, I think you dial something like *#1234# in the dialer.

Try rooting and installing custom rom. It might solve your issue also as it resolve my random restart problems before.

SDS Solution, once and for all [help me]

Hey guys,
Lately I realized that I have Insane Chip.
No matter what Rom or Kernel I flash into the hardware I just can't seem to get rid of the SDS.
I've tried Perseus Kernel [Which later I found that it's for stock roms only].
I've tried Devil Kernel, N.E.A.K Kernel without any success.
Currently I'm using ParanoidAndroid 3.99 and it's great, but the SDSs killing me.
What's the solution? btw I rather have something fast because I get to the house only on weekends and the Note 2 is all I have while I'm outside the house.

You cant get rid of the insane chip its hardware , the only way to get the sane chip is to swich the motherboard, you should be safe on latest stock roms but the emmc brickbug app will alway show insane chip even if you have a safe rom and kernel. So using latest stock 4.1.2 roms whit stock kernels should be safe but I dont know if its 100% because samsung doesn't publish change logs whit there updates.

You should be safe on any kernel that has SDS fix in it (they state that in the features list of the kernel) , you can flash custom roms or 4.3 stock leak .
