you may want to place in data/app folder for it to work properly.

And still doesn't work with any of the ROMs right?

Neither the last one nor this one work for me. I'm on Lifeless V9. They both open, but both fail to verify the account. Voicemails remain on the server only; no downloads or notifications of anythinh come in.

I've never done that before. I found a Youtube video that seems to outline the process. Does this seem correct?
Find apk in Root Explorer
Copy file
Try pasting it into /system/media
If not, choose "Mount R/W" button so it says "Mount R/O"
Paste again
Hold down on APK and choose permissions
Check:
Owner - Read write
Group - Read
Otheres - Read
Uncheck rest
Click OK
File should show "rw-r-r" under the name
Move this file to system/app
Click back once and click "Mount R/O" at top right
Reboot

The reason the visual voicemail does not work on Lifeless is because some of the Sprint bloat that is removed is needed by visual voicemail. If you install one of the stock V9 rooted (i recommend the one by b-reezy) your visual voicemail will work. As long as you are on Lifeless or Imperium you can use Google Voice as a work-around. At least this has been my findings after trying several other work-arounds with no luck. I too am on Lifeless V9 ... I love the ROM so I am willing to deal with the lack of visual voicemail. It has been my experience that it's interpretations of what the caller actually said were not too accurate anyways. Hope this helps.

Oh, I don't care about voice to text; I just want my voicemails without having to call my voicemail box!
Can you point me to info on using Google Voice as a workaround?
Thanks in advance.

Just download the Google Voice app from the Play Store and go through the set-up, it will make your voicemail notifications and stuff with voicemail work. Sprint has some type of agreement with Google voice and u can assign your mobile number as your google voice number, but this can cause some undesirable effects for some users (mainly caller ID issues with your outgoing texts and calls) I eventually uninstalled Voice and disabled my mobile number from being my voice number. It is easy to set up, u can also go to www.google.com/voice and set up some other options there from your PC.

Yea I had to uninstall it as well. I wasn't able to send or receive calls. Even after uninstalling it I still had to go onto a computer to take my number off the account. I tried setting it up later without using my number but i didn't see where it gave me an option of assigning me a number.

Any luck with this? I just flashed the most amazing ROM I've found, Spleef's CARBON 4.3 20130930 and the only only thing it doesn't do is voicemail. It has the Google Voice in the build, and I've been getting texts from sprint when I get a VM, but it links me to a number that doesn't give me the message, and I have to long-press the (1) to get into the VM to check.
I'd love to even have the VM icon available, but can't even get that... HELP! :silly:

Where did you come from!? I swear you are the SUPERMAN of XDA! Everywhere I go to find a solution, YOU are always the one that 1) has the plan, idea, creation ...then 2) tests the plan and comes back with a :good: or a TBD, which always returns a :good: :victory: then 3) gives us ALL the info possible in the clearest wording possible, without "virtual sneers" for us Tech Toddlers just wobbling into this world AND 4) ALWAYS appears at my moment of need no matter WHERE in the XDAland I am to offer peaceful, simplistic genius.

[App] Root Call Blocker needs testing

Hello guys, im the developer of Root Call Blocker, an advanced call and SMS blocking app for rooted phones.
The app's home is here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
We have had multiple reports that blocking is not working sometimes on American phones, so we need some nice people to do some testing.
You can use the Groups function of the Lite version to do the testing - it gives you almost everything youd want from the app anyway.
Please post comments here, but also use the "Write to us" dialog in settings.
ill test it can u send me the apk to [email protected]
Whoa there, lets start by reading the op shall we?
Is this like Mr. Blocker? I use my phone for around 80% of ps3 gaming. and I like forwarding everything to voicemail and Google voice messaging does this have that option

Good question. I am curios as well. Also .... off topic.... how are you using your phone for ps3 gaming?

Voicemail is a carrier, not phone-based service. If you use VM, then VM is what you get when you use the appropriate reject method.
But I'm curious why you would ask me instead of trying it yourself.

Enjoy... and remember, an update is always just around the corner! If you have problems, use "Write to us" in Settings! Dont be shy!
Could you guys please test the following behavior for me:
1. How the app behaves when a blocked number attempts to connect during call waiting
2. How a blocked caller is handled when "Dont answer" is set as the reject method and you are currently on the phone and have not enabled blocked call vibrate notifications within the app itself
Dont forget to send logs with descriptions as well
Come on people, i really need some feedback on this!
Im not kidding people - testing is what its all about!
Me, and my girlfriend both use it. The only problem I've had, is it lets picture messages through. Other than that, it works great.
Sent from my DInc 2
It doesn't let them through. It has nothing to do with them at all!
Lol - this is a great bit of software, worth the money!
It blocks messages too? So I would say it does.

Anything to report?

Removing Vlingo Voice Talk

Man, this thing is so annoying. I have a habit of double-tapping the home button to get to my desktop and I suppose the new function goes to Voice Talk. I don't want it to go there and I can't remove/remap it. Any clue on how to get rid of it?
yah thats in settings, go to motions in settings and uncheck double tap! that should fix it
You'll have to wait till our phones get rooted to completely remove any stock apps.

That does not fix it for me, I have all motion turned off, and still get the vlingo terms of service when I double tap home. Which I then decline every time. Very Annoying.
Same issue here. I want it to behave like Sense and display all of my homescreens (zoomed out). What does the 'home' key have to do with Voice Talk and Vlingo anyway?!
What would u like to do ???
Lol cant get it off either
Tmo Galaxy S2
Damn near a deal breaker
I like the plain voice commands from android and I'd like to do what I've been doing for the last couple of years - push the headset button, say what I want and have it just happen. I'm going to play with this a while longer but I'm going to give the phone back if it doesn't work exactly like I want. It's too much money to live with like I did the Vibrant - till the guys here made it work.
I don't mind something being no removable if there's an option to use something else. If any of you know how to change the settings so the original vlingo by Samsung isn't the automatic choice, that would be greatly appreciated.
Yep checked off double tap and it still goes into voice talk

It's been gone since the first update from when the phone was released... I don't know exactly which update, but I noticed it being gone after an OTA.
One easy way if your running ICS is to install go Launcher, open app drawer, long press voice command icon, un install, Vlingo gone! Un install go Launcher. No rooting required.
HOLY SHII
This solution that GDF01 is talking about, is not only very easy, but also very awesome! I removed Voice talk and Chat and other stuff, and i ICS-froze Readers Hub and all that stuff, so now I have a fully functional and great phone, without rooting or anything! Thanks!!

Using native sms app with Google Voice

Anyone know how to use the native messaging app through google voice? I know there is an option within the app but it uses different phone numbers for the incoming so when you respond it will know you its going to.
What I am looking for is something that will full integrate, using my contacts phone numbers when they message me. Also when i start a thread from within the messaging app i want it to go through google voice. I found this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdrtools.apps.gvintegration&hl=en
But is that the only way to make it happen? Thanks!

I just loaded the free one, cant tell the difference between the paid and the free. This app got a lot of bad reviews so i was skeptical... seems to be working ok. How is your battery life with it?
Also I am on an unlimited plan as well, i just want to start giving out my GV number and not my regular number anymore... Time for a change
I haven't had any trouble with battery life. There was an older version of the app that sucked down battery, but since it's been updated I haven't noticed any appreciable decrease.
The free version is apparently a trial version.

security hole affecting galaxy phones

I just read this on appy geek. I thought everyone should know about this.
The link that will reset some Samsung Galaxy phones without warning originally appeared on http://www.pocket-lint.com on Tue, 25 Sep
Frightening
A security hole has been discovered that allows some Samsung Galaxy phones running TouchWiz to be automatically factory reset without warning. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Found by ex-Gadget Geeks presenter Tom Scott, among others, all unsuspecting users have to do is go to a webpage via a specific link and their phone will be wiped back to how it came in the box.
"The USSD code to factory data reset a Galaxy S3 is *2767*3855# can be triggered from browser like this: " wrote Scott.
Developer Tom Hutchinson, who has helped Pocket-lint work out the incredibly damaging bug, says that the security blunder affects not just the SGS3 but the Ace, the GS2, and S Advance so far. "Most if not all Gingerbread phones or newer running TouchWiz will be vulnerable," claims the developer.?
The fear is that those looking to wipe out Samsung phones would be able to easily embed the code on a website without Galaxy owners even realising what is about to happen. The code could easily be used in a QR code too.?
I'm just glad these news sources are making sure everyone knows exactly how to accomplish it.
Installing titanium backup now. Didn't think I would ever need it. Guess I do just in case now.

If you read my thread on the secret Android Codes, you will understand what is happening:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894102
The stock Samsung dialer will execute secret android codes when you enter them without hitting send.
Like *#350# will reboot the phone. (That would be a better exploit example than the factory reset one)
The problem is that NFC or the stock browser will load a tel: into the dialer for you.
Well using the stock dialer that will execute any of those secret android codes.
Most of those secret android codes will not work on CM10/AOSP dialers obviously.
So the fix is to install any other dialer app like exDialer and use it as default app for dialing.

I'm probably missing something easy, but how do I get exDialer to be the default? I installed it, went to Application manager and to the default Phone app, but the "Clear Defaults" button was greyed out.
When I dial from either app, it just dials, doesn't ask me which app to use. I tried doing a voice action "Dial xxx xxx xxxx" from Google Now and it automatically went through the stock dialer without prompting.
Engadget says it only affects the stock browser but not chrome. Who is using the stock browser anyways, it's garbage.

I thought it stays. If you type a message in Handcent or messaging like (800)555-1212 then you can click on it and it will prompt which dialer to open as default. exDialer has option for auto run USSD code.. Wonder if samsung will add that to dialer (even though these are not USSD codes)

Who cares what engadget says, you can try it yourself, it will happen ANY time a number link is loaded into the stock dialer. That can be from SMS, maybe even fake caller ID spoofing. Maybe other apps can launch a number for you.
Has anyone tried the dialer code to factory reset?
Chances are Samsung already disabled it, probably for this reason. They've disabled quite a few of them actually so we probably dont have to worry about it. (I haven't tested it to be sure but it would surprise me if they left that one enabled)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I've been testing this and you can follow my results over here at Rootz.
Preview: I've yet to actually get it to auto-execute (i.e. click send) the code and have tried modern CM10/AOKP, the JB TW leaks, and have gone back to T999UVALG1. Still going to be doing more testing but may not be for a while - maybe somebody can pick up from here.

Did you read any of my post or thread. The Samsung dialer instantly executes the code when you type last #. This isn't a USSD. They are android secret codes.
If you have stock dialer and it loads in the code it will execute it. tel:*#06# clicking that will bring up IMEI
(That should also work in aosp or cm10, but that is the only code they have in dialer)
You don't need to test, it is any app that launches dialer and adds digits

Clicking on that just opens dialer with *. Just fyi, but it is pretty simple. Later tonight I'll test the factory reset code to see if sammy disabled it like most of the others. If it is as I suspect they will have done so, probably meaning they already knew about the problem.
Most security vulnerabilities are not released publicly until a fix has been implemented. (The NFC hack is a perfect example). For us that fix was most likely the update to UVALH2...assuming my assumptions are correct of course!

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know Samsung did patch this in UVALH2 like I thought.
In case you didnt see the other thread, someone posted it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906473
I did test it and I might be mistaken about the dialer code being disabled. It did initiate the reset when I manually entered the code. But it may be due to me running a combo/hybrid version of ics. Ill be flashing back later today and will retest to let you know for sure.
I just wanted to throw this out in case anyone was thinking of testing it thinking it wont work...

[APP] Sprint Visual Voicemail vT.5.3.4.18 6/13/13

I extracted by running the FC09 multiboot sdcard image, going into the Voicemail app and checking for updates.
"With this update, you will have the option to access premium features such as inline playback and auto forward to email."
Just download and install. If upgrading, it will not delete your existing voicemails. Works great for me, but still has the 9016 txt problem.
Enjoy!

AFAIK, the only official way to get rid of it is to "block" the number, done with a 3rd party app. Actually, I wonder if I can block 9016 on my list of blocked numbers on Sprint.com.....??? Might try later....
Blocking 9016 prevents the VVM from being able to download the message. All I did was add 9016 to my android group in contacts with a nice icon, then let it be. I can easily hit close when the message pops up.
For those that have installed this version, does it have a widget? Long press on a home screen and click widgets. If it has it built in this version, then it will be listed there. The previous version didn't have one.

There is a widget, but it is accessed by going to Apps/Widgets. Cannot comment on previous version, as I didn't use or look into a VVM widget.

... referring back to my original comment about not being able to successfully get VVM to work on non-TW ROMs ... all I ever get is a text message saying "blah blah blah - you have a message - blah blah blah - call 123456789 ( NOT real number , just example ) - blah blah blah" ... my received message NEVER goes thru to VVM on any non-TW ROM ... so whenever I'm using the new fancy ROMs ( Baked - Slim - CM - AOKP - Bean - Carbon - Domination - AoCP - etc ) I have to give up Sprint VVM and use an alternate ( but I really like Sprint VVM ) ... any suggestions ??? ( I have tried previous suggestions of "blocking" 9016 and "adding" to contacts and tried app called RedList , but so far I have NOT been able to get VVM to work for me on non-TW ROMs , so I mainly fall back to TPR as my daily after playing with the other new ROMs )

Did you at some point activate Google Voice with Sprint integration? Sounds like VVM may still be funneling through Voice.

I did at one point but deactivated it afterward - it's working perfect right now on TPR but as soon as I flash any other non-TW ROM I'm back to non-functioning VVM :banghead:

I extracted by running the FC09 multiboot sdcard image, going into the Voicemail app and checking for updates.
"With this update, you will have the option to access premium features such as inline playback and auto forward to email."
Just download and install. If upgrading, it will not delete your existing voicemails. Works great for me, but still has the 9016 txt problem.
Enjoy!

I used app Redlist and create 9016 as a contact and blocked and it works fine.
