Hey guys and gals, I been with xda for a couple of years now, I like and respect what young guys do here. I always had a windows phone. But my past phones were android phones. So I'm new to the android swag. So my problem is that I want to use my T-Mobile Samsung galaxy s3 as I WiFi, so how could I do that? I know I have to root my phone. So do I have to root my phone and install a ROM or can I only have my phone rooted to get a free WiFi app?

Hey guys been searching all over and just trying to tether my new Nexus to my annoying "infrastructure" only wifi Galaxy Tablet 2.
Maybe there are specific Roms that can do this...
Thanks for all the help much much appreciated.

If you don't want to root use foxify other than that u will need to be rooted on custom rom. Or pay u carrier a different price

I have been using FoxFi and I love it. The latest Sprint ICS update seams to be blocking FoxFi. I know FoxFi is working on this problem but I was wondering if there is another solution without root until they fix it? I have tried the bluetooth version and the other bluetooth apps with no success. Has anyone had success with any other apps or ways? Or will I just have to wait for FoxFi to find a solution and come out with updated version?
Thanks in advance
Also I do not think pdanet is working but im not 100 percent sure.

when does your billing cycle end? and also how many gigabytes have you used so far during this billing cycle?
On my billing cycle I had like 50g used. LoL. No extra charge. I don't think this update is just on my phone because there are several people having this update. Why you think this is just for me?

I am going to take a stab and suggest Sprint is not happy with that kind of usage and finally plugged a hole.
I have been reading though forums that everyone is getting this update and its even on FoxFi website that its a Google update on ICS on not specifically a Sprint update. FoxFi is coming out with a counter update.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had luck with finding another way to have wifi hot spot without root. Until FoxFi comes out with an update.

When you say 50g do you mean 50gb on sprints network? If so I applaud you good sir. Sprints network in my area makes it hard for me to use 2 gigs.
Yes! 50gb. I just download and leave it lol. Also set up hot spot when I'm mobile.
Does no one know of a killer working app for non rooted users?

Just curious, doesn't your phone heat up a lot when using it as a WiFi hotspot? I haven't used my phone as a hotspot since my Hero, hence my username, but it used to heat up fast.

Yes it does but if I am going to use it like hardcore I put it on a laptop cooler on top one of the fans.

Under normal conditions its not that bad.

Why not just root and never need a third party WiFi hotspot app again?
You can totally unroot when needed

What's the best way to root the nexus? Something very simple and leaves the phone pretty much stock? Isn't there a 1 click root program that let's you do anything to your nexus?

I don't know. What's the best program where I can just root the phone and put an app on it that will allow wifi hotspots with jelly bean 4.1.1 update.

Can you post a link? (I see several apps that are/were named this or very similar)
Does it require root? (If so I'll wait for foxfi or save up for SVTP because I can't afford to invalidate my warranty/insurance coverage)
Thanks!

Yea It requires root.

Root doesn't cause u to lose your insurance coverage. Only warranty. At least with Verizon. I just switched to tmobile but on Verizon I have sent many phones into insurance because of cracked screens and other things that were rommed and rooted and had no problems. That's what insurance is for. They don't care what u did to your phone

Why not set your phone back to stock for warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can't claim personal experience with the rooting process, nor with claiming insurance. I do have a lot of past experience with loading custom roms and radios on Windows Mobile, and while I hadn't heard many horror stories of warranty/insurance being denied due to such, most everyone did their best to return to stock when sending in their phones for such claims because running HSPL/custom ROMs was a contractual no-no and something support would often ask about.
Because I cannot afford another phone, much less a SGS3, and my previous phones are completely obsolete*, I dare not tempt myself with anything that has the least chance of bricking my S3. SVTP is looking like a relative bargain for when I eventually require a hotspot. (*Before anyone mentions it, yes, I do know that the HD2 runs ICS just fine. Probably JB by now too. I just haven't been impressed by the Android builds for it.)
my phone is not rooted. do i need to be? i seen people do it without rooting.

It's a hit or miss with FoxFi.... Mostly miss.

David- You could pay for a tethering plan from Tmobile, then you won't need root.
I have been successful with foxfi tethering to my nexus 7 over bluetooth with no root.
Hey guys..
As the title says I unlocked (and rooted) my Verizon Galaxy Note 2, and I am now on the T Mobile service. I used the app called hiapn global and it worked great. But the problem is I'm only getting edge signal and I know H+ is all around. Now I know that I can't use LTE anymore because I'm not on Verizon's network. I know that there's different frequencies in the phones operations but I'm trying to find a way to get a better connection because I know people around me having a great connection on their normal t mobile phones
Any ideas or suggestions?
Ps, I'm new to Xda but I've been rooting, and hacking for years. So if anyone has any ?'s let me know!

Hi,
I have been reading alot on the CF auto root and it is sure tempting. I just moved from the iphone community to the android world in June and I am very eager to root my phone. Just like what I did to my iphone, in this case, jailbreaking.
Unfortunately I only have 3 Macs running PC/Laptop at home. Any idea on how I can do it?
