Hello...
Maybe this is a silly question, but please do bear with me - I'm a newbie with Android, just managed to downgrade, root and install the Revolution HD ROM.
I was wondering - I've read about Nandroid, but the only specific thread I've found here is for the G1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830). Will this do for the DHD? Or is the Backup/Restore function of the ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3 the same?
Thanks in advance!
PS Android is so much more difficult to hack than WinMo... but so much more exciting
In theory you should be able to just boot into rcovery (power+volume down ) then in clockwork gobto backup and restore and and choose backup. This is how I would do it on my incredible so I assume it would be the same on another htc phone

Hmmm... thanks for your reply - actually I'm doing a Recovery backup as I'm typing this.
But if it's the same, then how come that so many procedures in here state "do a Nandroid backup" since the very same procedures also say you should have a recovery mode?
Thanks again
You can't afaik do a backup without a custom recovery.
"Nandroid" is the most common and is also used as a generic term. So do a "nandroid backup" or "recovery backup" are the same thing. They are just making a reference to the fact that you are making the backup using the recovery console (CWM e.g.) rather than through an App.
Or have I mis-understood your question?

No, mate, that was exactly my question. Thanks for a complete and concise reply
Greetings,
I can't seem to find relevant information on my query. I have backed up my Desire Bravo stock rom using Nandroid. I would like to know if the following are possible:
1. Remove apps from imaged backed up by Nandroid. If it can, how?
2. If apps can be removed, can I flash the image back.
I have rooted the phone using Unrevoked, not s-off yet.
Please advise. Newbie here trying to learn and understand the phone better
Thank you.
Not really.
AFAIK, it is an image file (like .iso). However with some tricks you can edit it, but then it will be an MD5 mismatch - so it won't be good.
Hello all,
by a warranty case I will have to exchange my htc desire bravo with another one. Actually I have installed the SuperNova Gingerbread ROM with internal memory placed on my sdcard.
Is there a way or how would you do this to make an image or backup to easily restore it on the new phone. The new one will not be rooted, so I will have to do it first, right?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help
Best regards
gigi

Yes you have to root. How to backup is answered by faq no 1 on supernova site.
Hi Droidzone,
on the supernova site the faq #1 is about sdcard partition. But I have found a section about nandroid. Is this the right way?
And lufc, excuse please my posting fault.
Best regards

Yes, nandroid from recovery.
Remember to root your phone once it gets back from the warranty, and remember to flash the same recovery as you have had before the giveaway. Just in case.
And - do not give your minisd card with the phone to warranty.

Hi remmyhi,
thank you very much. Actually I have on my phone the ROM Manager 5.0.0.6 installed. It shows me the ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 working. But if I boot into the recovery system for making a backup it shows me the version 2.5.0.7.
I am a little bit confused about this. Should there be also the 5.0.2.0 version if I want to backup/restore?
Best regards
gigi
Rom Manager won'rt recognize its own recovery, better to screw it and go through recovery manually. To be sure, you could flash the newer CWM recovery or ext4 via fastboot (it's really easy, i'd say even easier than rom manager), then use the backup feature and make sure everything is backed up (i had a broken CWM recovery that would not backup my sd-ext).
I still wonder that you installed a Rom without backing up your stock system.
Oh, and it is advisable to restore to stock before sending the phone away.
Hello muellersmattes,
thank you very much. I think, I have enough informations now. Thanks guys for your advice.

Ok guys, sorry for the nubby questions lately, so I figured I would get them all out there while I could.
#1) If I backup a ROM's DATA partition only, does that mean I can restore the DATA in an upgraded version of the ROM?
#2) Can I store my backups on a flash drive, without corrupting them? If so, can I use USBHOST to restore from those backups?
#3) When flashing to another recovery, such as CWM to TWRP, can I just flash the zip file in recovery?
That's all I can think of as of yet, I'm sure I will update this thread in the future.

#1 I think yes. #2 Don't know. #3 Yes you can directly flash zips to switch recovery.

First of all, I'm running CMW Recover 6.0.1.2 (Older version). How do I update it? I tried installing the CMW Recovery app from the PlayStore, but while setting up, it asks if I'm running version 2.x or 3.x... neither of which seems correct.
My other question is: How do I delete old recoveries. I have about 15 recoveries saved and don't need most of them. I used to have a folder on the internal SD card where they would be stored in folders, but now I can't find that folder anywhere... where are they being stored??
Thanks guys... I did a search but usually the answers are under forums for other models of phones, and I'm sure they don't pertain to the S3... thanks!
