Best battery saving rom - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just want the best rom that will have my phone, on the longest. Don't want to get an extended battery.

Sounds like you need to do some reading and flashing.
I like to break stuff!

The only way to find what is best for you is to Flash and try it. No two users will experiance the same battery life (Typically) because we all use our phones differently, have our phones set up differently, Great thing about a rooted phone is that you can flash as many roms as you choose till you find a happy fit for yourself. So please take a second to look around, Might find something you like.
Now i'm off to bury this fuzzy critter...

If you leave it alone and turn off sync, turn off data, turn off gps, turn off anything at all that runs in the background, delete Facebook app if you use it. Your phone will probably last a couple of days on a full charge. With full phone functionality.

I just came from the Nokia n900

I just came from the Nokia n900 and having so many things working on the phone is a refreshing change! Ive lurked around and read a lot! As a result ive succesfully rooted my phone and have even tried out a few custom roms! However I have a question about a ROM im currently using but I cant post in the dev forum yet so I figured ill try here. Im currently using the digital warfare ROM and ive noticed that my powersave feature does not seem to work correctly. It will kick in regardless of the battery percentage I set. So ive just left it off for now. can someone help?

First I want to give you huge props for actually reading and doing all that on your own instead of posting a ton of useless threads with questions that can easily be found! But to answer your question, the My Account app has its own power save feature, try going into that app and adjusting it from there or just disabling it all together. Hope this helps.

Just disable the power saver in the my account app and use the power saver settings built into the phone, that's what I do.

Welcome to the family.
This phone is pretty beast, and it will only get better.
Thanks! I can tell! making the transition from hw Kb to all touch is kinda weird but this.phone is so capable and powerful its awesome!
Welcome dude and yea i would just disable this phone is great with battery life anyways. One suggestion tho i would freeze tmobile my account all together in titanium backup or uninstall it tgats if u have it installed it actually messes with wifi. When your on wifi it will turn on 4g signal whenever data is requested which isnt good cuz u think ur using wifi the whole time. Ever since ive disabled tgat app i have not had a problem with wifi or 4g service. I actually think its a way for tmobile to snoop on our data. I made a thread about this and other people have confirmed this app to be the culprit. I actually was gonna take my phone back because i couldnt get wifi to stay connected so thats when i started investigating and found this
Hmm I like to keep track of my data usage but if thats the case away it goes!

No im running at stock speeds
It's not unusual for a phone to get warm when running cpu/gpu intensive processes like games. It only becomes a problem when it gets incredibly hot and forces the phone to reboot or the battery gets too hot to touch.

Thanks. now i'm having a new problem. My phone will just randomly shut off and I cant turn it back on until I pull the battery. It has happened twice so far
is your phone hot when this happens? try darksides kernel. haven't had an issue.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
not hot. i just flashed his new rom/kernel combo with a clean wipe and as i was messing around with milocker it did it again. just shut off on me. only way to bring it back is to pull the battery. very strange.
You using a new ROM? I know you said new ROM/kernel combo but that could imply same ROM new, kernel. If youre on the same ROM, check the thread to see if its an issue with it I guess. Could always try a new one and see if that fixes it. Let us know if you find out anything.

Sorry... I see these threads all the time & I never reply. But I guess its just a pointless thread so I wanted to put a pointless answer.
They all drain pretty quickly
I think it's less about the right rom/kernel and more about using something like juicedefender or go power management from the play store. They help automatically switch stuff on and off that eats battery quickly.

In my experience definitely not true. At work I have a hit and miss signal. If I leave 3g active the battery drains really fast while the phone is sleeping. Like 10% in an hour sometimes. Turning on juice defender which for me is just disabling data while the screen is off. The battery will not move in the same amount of time. Maybe 1% will be gone.
I believe it is because the phone keeps trying to grab a signal in the weak areas.
Whatever it is there is for sure a huge difference. I have tested many times. Can hardly get through the day sometimes if I leave data on.
The thing I hate about it is a lot of the time the phone takes forever to reconnect so I have to wait every time I wake it.
i use my phone a lot for web, music, calls, messaging, social app, and the best kernel i used and put in my rom (but for maguro) is Trinity Kernel 1344 cpu / 384 gpu Stable35. i advice this kernel . for the rom a stock rooted, busyboxed, deodexed, zipaligned and with useful build.prop tweak for battery life. this has been my philosophy for my rom and i'm very satisfied

Android System - Stay Awake

Hello Forum,
So i have been having trouble getting good battery life. I basically have nothing running and it goes dead. I think i might be on the right track but not sure.
I was looking at my android system in battery and noticed that the stay awake time was really high as anybody else seen this.
I added a screen shot so u can see. Any help would be great.
Thanks
SHiFT.
Dl better battery stats, it will tell you exactly what is keeping your phone awake. Not much assistance can be given until you know exactly what's causing the issue. Also try a simple reboot, at time something in android system went rogue on me and a reboot fixed it up.

Try holding down the middle button until the task list pops up and hit remove all, this has helped me. I also switched to nova launcher which I think has helped.

damn, I really wanted to review his battery saving tips tips as i am already down to 84% after 2 and a half hours of the lightest use possible
EDIT: never mind, another classic case of a developer comparing apples to oranges. I am not going to name names but if I was to run those settings on the ICS rom I was running, I would get well over 24 hours of battery life. What is the point of having the convenience of Google wallet, if you have to fumble around in the menu turning on and off the NFC every time you use it. What is the point of having a Samsung based JB rom if you are going to turn off almost all of the Samsung baked in goodies (animations, S beam, ect). Might as well run CM 10, have NFC turned on and still have respectable battery life.
Don't get me wrong, he has done great work on this port but its like saying my 800HP small block chevy will get you great gas mileage.....if you bolt on a 2 barrel carb, limit the throttle travel, and under drive the blower.

I agree. Always seemed stupid to me to essentially turn your phone into nothing but a basic touchscreen without the added benefits of what makes the phone great.
To each its own. I for one flash JB TW to have what JB offers and what TW offers. For that CM10 is perfectly fine.

Rooting really worth it??

OK so I rooted all my previous phones with no issues, just wondering running stock this phone is pretty fast don't know how much "faster" it can get. I know all the features rooting can bring like removing annoying bloatware, carrier iq, build props etcc. What else could you do with these roms? With stock I already could do a lot of the stuff I couldn't do with previous phones running stock. I know overclocking, undervolting anything else I missed that these roms provide apart from asthetic looks?
I guess I just wanted the opinion from people rooted to see if you get that "night & day" difference effect that you get when you root
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If it wasn't for removing bloat and carrierIQ i would be satisfied with stock. BUT AOSP/AOKP is my main reason and 4.2. The TouchJizz ROMs aren't my thing overall. But i think stock out of the box is great, i have plenty of friends with the S3 that wont let me tough their phone cause they are so happy with it stock.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
There are way too many junkwares phone provider put on the stock TW. Even pure TW contains Samsung's junkwares. Rooting will allow you to remove or freeze those junkwares which makes the phone performs even better with better batt life. You can also install a firewall such as DroidWall to block internet access from apps. Block ads with AdAway. Block apps from autorun themselves when certain event occurs such as power is plugged in. There are endless helpful things you can do with a rooted phone.
I'd suggest reading more about rooting, flashing, custom recovery and see what you're missing without root.

Yeah all those things you stated I already knew, I like the adaway stuff several other apps that can do that too. Also voodoo sound is nice. Voltage control all that.. I'm pretty careful and all but I guess I just don't want to deal with all the hassle. Backing up nv, roms, apps whole nine yards.

My question is i read around forums people stating that triangle away can't take away the tripping counter when you flash a s3 that came with JB already installed out the box any truth?
Just would like to know since I have a long warranty on it just in case.
Also backing up your emei would insure you will get it back if something goes wrong? Because I saw in that forum it was a mixed bag some people could get it others couldn't and had their 4G missing too

Yes............
Rooting IS worth it, next QUESTION!

And they have a thread on how to not trip the counter.
And as far as stock jb tripping the counter... haven't heard that but I honestly dont think it will unless you flash a new rom

Rooting is definitely worth it. Probably the best things you can do with it is remove bloatware, install an Ad-Blocker, and control the CPU to increase battery life or performance. With the Triangle Away app, you can easily reset the Custom Binary counter for warranty exchanges as I have done a few times.

Backing up your NV data is a "fool" not "full" proof plan indeed tho.

When in recovery you can choose where to back up to. I would personally read thru the stickied threads and get some information that has been deemed infallible by the higher ups. Asking basic stuff on a thread sometimes leads idiots to respond like they know something. The info on the stickies is concrete and not opinion based or anything.
