Best ROM/Kernel combo for battery life (Verizon) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Which toro ROM and kernel have people been getting good battery life with (with the stock battery)?

That's why I am just replying with stock for all these threads

It's not stupid. I'm just asking to see what people have been have their experiences with.

It is stupid, considering there are 8+ threads EXACTLY like this.

Yes it is stupid... just cuz I get 5 days with so and so ROM and kernel, DOES NOT.. I REPEAT... DOES NOT mean you will also. Nobody can tell you what to expect if we all use are phones differently.

I get 3 weeks out of one charge with my Nexus. But its on Airplane Mode all that time. CM12 - Best ROM so far.
Sorry... I see these threads all the time & I never reply. But I guess its just a pointless thread so I wanted to put a pointless answer.

They all drain pretty quickly
I think it's less about the right rom/kernel and more about using something like juicedefender or go power management from the play store. They help automatically switch stuff on and off that eats battery quickly.

why install something that will run in the background, to save battery? makes no sense at all.

In my experience definitely not true. At work I have a hit and miss signal. If I leave 3g active the battery drains really fast while the phone is sleeping. Like 10% in an hour sometimes. Turning on juice defender which for me is just disabling data while the screen is off. The battery will not move in the same amount of time. Maybe 1% will be gone.
I believe it is because the phone keeps trying to grab a signal in the weak areas.
Whatever it is there is for sure a huge difference. I have tested many times. Can hardly get through the day sometimes if I leave data on.
The thing I hate about it is a lot of the time the phone takes forever to reconnect so I have to wait every time I wake it.

i use my phone a lot for web, music, calls, messaging, social app, and the best kernel i used and put in my rom (but for maguro) is Trinity Kernel 1344 cpu / 384 gpu Stable35. i advice this kernel . for the rom a stock rooted, busyboxed, deodexed, zipaligned and with useful build.prop tweak for battery life. this has been my philosophy for my rom and i'm very satisfied

Check this out!! Crazy! long battery life

Check out my battery life. Totally ridiculous. Here is my set up. Beast Mod 4.2 with synergy kernel. Using set CPU to under clock to 1.1. Haven't made any changes to the voltage, also I'm not using any profiles. I'm letting synergy do its own thing. The screen off time is unreal. I went to bed the other night at 9:30 with 35% left. I walked out of the house at 5am and had only lost 1%.

So..... Out of 3 days you only used your phone for 3 1/2 hrs?..
My friend.. Please enjoy your phone and recharge when it gets low or whenever you feel like it.

Nice. But yeah you've got this great phone, why not actually use it even if it means charging while you sleep?
Man, even without use you get 3 days of battery?
DAMN THIS LTE RADIO.
I can't do anything more then 2 days without touching the phone more then once every few hours to check the time...
LTE RADIO, WAI U GOTTA DRAIN MAH BATTERY.
I think people are overlooking the fact that he was able to use the phone with 3 1/2 hours display on time throughout 3 days. that's freaken 72 hours... people were saying they get 2% drain every hour... you guys do the math. That's freaken amazing... sooo 68.5 hours of it... even with a few background stuff running... the phone barely drained.
if he was to use the phone throughout a single day it looks like he'll get around 5 hours of display on time maybe more.
That was the point I was trying to make. 3 1/2 screen on time is a decent amount. The screen off drain is amazing I think.

I dont keep wifi, or gps on. Backround data and auto sync are on. I keep the screen brightness 2 clicks from the bottom. Also I have alot of apps frozen thru titanium. Like facebook, twtter, samsung apps, media hub.
i say its pretty impressive coming from a thunderbolt. if i charge that phone to 100% and leave it off the charger over night im lucky to wake up with 40% left. and thats with no use of the phone at all

Darkside Evolution Beta3

Is without a doubt, the best rom I've tried yet. Just wanted to give props and show off a screenshot. The only thing I've found wrong with this rom is that is so damn perfect, I feel like there's nothing more I can do to it to tweak it or improve it
Well, the only thing I would like to figure out is how to make a live wallpaper based on the screenshot below with wiggly Cthulhu tentacles! RAWR!
Well I can't post images so included a file for those interested in seeing it in action but haven't flashed this goodness yet.
It is a wonderful rom.
As far as live wallpapers, you'll need to know some coding. Google hak5 live wallpaper. They have a decent tutorial. I'm on my phone right now and can't seem to find it
Good luck

28, but close guess. How was anything i typed egotistical? I require proof before I believe outlandish claims, probably why I'm an atheist...
edit: proof was provided but it was tainted, thus i see no reason to retract my statement.
Also having excellent battery life. Almost always connected to wifi as well.

Stay tuned!

Just a heads up... when running the powersave governor, you're forcing your CPU tonrun at the minimum. So in fact your CPU doesn't run above 384mhz. I am sure that its pretty laggy. Also the device itself will force cpu1 offline when not needed.

Based on what I have learned from reading and personal experiences, I would say that there is no "one-size-fit-all" for the best way to save battery. My wife and I have the same devices (T989), and I have both of theme tweaked different; different roms, kernels, etc.
Even though these devices are "identical", the set up I have on my device saves me lots of batter; I can go anywhere between 18 to 48 hours depending on usage and other factors. Same set up on my wife's phone wasn't as effective. However, the way I have her phone teaked, works best for her but not for me.
I would say that it really all depends on how you use your phone, settings, tweaks, widgets, sync, etc.
Please everyone enough with negativity! In my opinion using profiles for ocing and ucing in addition to juice defender is the way to go
I use OC/UV Beater on BM 5.1 ROM.

been on it since day 1 both are released cause everyone told me they are the best. when i'm playing games or music, it lags. i click the power screen on button and it stays black until i click it like 5x and wait 30 seconds. battery life is terrible, i get like 3 hours under constant screen on usage which is ridic because i can't even leave the house without it dying
need a new combo
you suck. AOKP and Franco are the best....along with CM team
I just jumped back on AOKP + Franco after trying a ton of different combo's (CM9, Liquid, MIUI, Stock | Leankernel, GladOs, Faux) and this is by far the smoothest + most customize able setup you can have. Try backing everything up and doing a clean restore.
rascream rom + trinity kernel.. cant go wrong with this combo.
Try Slim ICS which comes with Lean Kernel. Just change the launcher if you don't like zeam.
Paranoid Android is a good rom also fn to play around with the dpi settings.
Personally I haven't had the troubles you had with AOKP and Franco. They run fine, I just get bored with roms after a few weeks. Perhaps your problems stem from apps you have installed. Have you tried running CPU spy or better battery stats to see what might be causing your troubles?
If it sucks so bad, make your own

Eh, it's just a trolly kind of day on XDA today.
I just got my GN the other night and first thing I did was put on the AOKP/Franco combination and I really like it. I was a very heavy user on my first day yesterday setting the phone up and all, plus it was the first full day after a nights charge.
I got home after work and I had 30% left after 13 hours. That makes me a happy camper. It can only get better from there as I slow down my usage.

Slim ICS has been REEALLY good for me, but then again every phone is different. I like Slim, Gummy, and Android Revolution HD. Give one of those a try.
Another thing you might want to check is which profile you have under setcpu or in the ROM options. If you have it set to hotplug (where one core is shut down when the phone goes to sleep) then that could cause the "wake up" issue.

Am I Wasting My Time?

My VZW GN is losing an insane amount of battery overnight, 30-35%, on wifi. I checked for rogue apps and out of control background syncs but all appears to be in order. I've had the phone since January and have always run it stock due to my work needs. I now use a different device for work and am ready to return to my rooting and rom'ing ways. While I know all the other advantages of going the superuser way I'm mostly concerned with slowing doing my out of the control battery. I'm currently running the latest VZW ota (4.1.1) and that's pretty much when my battery woes began.
So....am I going to find better battery life ditching the stock kernel, flashing older radios, etc? Or is wishful thinking to think that I can significantly improve battery life? Thanks for any input.

Thanks, I get much better signal at work and the drain remains. I realize that bad signal will drain battery. I was hesitant to post a screenie because my question wasn't geared to what's the problem per se, I was asking do custom kernels and or different radio combos make a difference all things remaining equal. I realize that part of fixing the problem is understanding the cause but I was trying to decide if tinkering is worth the battery investment.
