I've seen other people posting about how they're at 4.2, on AT&T. It's not in the card for me though. I try OTA, and Kies daily, nothing. Googled it, nothing. Searched here, nothing. What the hell!

Is this a serious post? You realize there is no "Official" 4.1.2 from Samsung right?

Yes, Sammy is adding what they are calling "Premium Suite," but no idea when that will be released. Just keep an eye on Android blogs and here on XDA and you'll have it as soon as it's available.

actually
when i was using 4.1.1 stock, the battery was pretty good, just turn off gps and autosync and it'd last ~2 days without use much beside talk, text
and sorry to disappoint you, due to our U.S S3 only has duo core, there won't be any "Multi windows"
but there are roms out there that has it, that's if you have your phone rooted
and if your phone is rooted, there are also a lot of roms out there have a really good battery life.

Oh and if you look around the Dev Thread, there are some ROMs that are ports of Note 2 ROMs that have Multi-Window built in. Give them a try.

I'm gonna have to look into rooting then. I have pretty good battery life, but could always be better, especially if I get some added perks.

We're trying to determine the "root" (pun intended) of the problem so if you wanna come in here and start a fight go find a local bar to do so. We need to try and locate the source of the problem so either post something useful or walk away.
There seems to be some confusion and I dont know if its being ignored or what but theres an issue with these kernels that needs to be looked into further before new ones continue to be released.
Theres an obvious problem for a good amount of people and everytime I look I see comments that there isnt a problem. So heres everything I could quickly find regarding it.
Now Im not trying to be a **** about this but I dont get how the issue is unheard of when its one of the biggest topics in this section. And so we're clear, this is happening in ALL kernels. Unfortunately its been more profound in Zedos because it seems more people went with his method.
All Im asking is before more and more kernels are released that someone at least acknowledge the problem and see if it can be addressed before more and more people root and start complaining because they were told there was no LO.S. bug

Rebooted phone and everything came back on. It's possible that the circle was there before I played the game of solitaire but I didn't notice until right after I quit playing.
Hopefully it gets straightened out soon. At least rebooting fixes the problem, I can handle rebooting for a little while if needed.

Telling you right now someone is going to come in here and go "this belongs in General" then a mod will move your thread and deduct 5 points from something, not sure...but just a heads up
I also see a lot of people having issues, but I'm now on day 2 of flashing Zedo V1 and have yet to experience any of these issues. Not sure what I did different, but everything just works... The only thing I did was after rooting was getting my MSL from Sprint and erased the proxy servers in the ##3282 menu.
EDIT: Ok, I just lost service 1 1/2 day after rooting... Bug finally hit me..
I dont mind it being moved and I have no clue what the deduction in "points" does but I'll deal with it.
Now Im getting much better battery but I know people are still losing service on the new OC kernel. My roommate happens to be on e the unlucky ones.
Man...thanks for posting this. Hopefully the mod doesn't close this thread. This definitely is a concern and a serious matter. I don't care if these kernels are, "use at your own risk" these kernels should've been listed as betas, and/or the bugs should've been listed and further testing should have been. If those steps were taken, I bet a lot of people would've held back from flashing them. I know I would have.
Shabby posted this earlier in the other thread (post 160):

One thing that got to me was this morning I woke up, hoping to see a stock kernel and/or a way to return to stock. And instead, I see a new overclockable kernel. To me that's just not right. I think that you have to prioritize. That's like putting out a rom that has all data broke. Then instead of fixing it, you put out another rom...while disregarding the issues with the first rom. At least acknowledge the issue and let everyone know it's been worked on....don't just blow it off.
I know some of the devs over in the Evo forums was good about this....if something went haywire with one of their roms or mods...they were all on top of it to get the issue fixed and they also communicated with posting updates on the matter.
Like I said, hopefully the mods don't close this.
I'm definately gonna follow this thread...thanks Wingzfan

Bubby does have the stock kernel pulled. I was testing it till 1:30 in the morning but he's gotta recompile it. It was bootlooping so today thats his first order of business.
As for the kernels, I flashed it by choice. I dont blame the devs for ANYTHING, Im just saying acknowledge theres a bug and lets see how to resolve it.
I've been reading through the rooted kernel threads as well prior to jumping on the root wagon and have seen several people mention that they are not rooted and have experienced the loss of service so it seems that the issue may not be exclusive to the rooted kernels...possibly a Samsung bug?
Very possible which is why im hoping we can get an idea of how man people are rooted vs non rooted having it. Now the only thing is I cant find any complaints online about nonrooted phones doing it except a few here and youd think it'd be widely discussed

This is an issue that started with mine also yesterday. But not only did I lose data but gps also. A reboot fixed it but I would like to know whats going on. I just came from the evo 3d and there was an issue that had to do with the prl so I am going to give that a shot with the 11115 prl that fixed the evo. Will post back with the results later today.
On V5, Ive only had the loss of data once in about 12 hours, versus about 3 times on Zedo V1.
I also did http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17703908&postcount=11 for the hell of it to see if that helped (even though I got it at a sprint store)
For the record:
A) People have reported this issue even on the stock kernel. It is not clear where the cause is.
B) For kicks (and because it cannot hurt) I did the whole profile/PRL update thing that someone suggested. Be it luck or real benefit, I have no had the issue since.

I would think it would be widely discussed as well so that seems odd. I'm waiting to see what evolves or at least for stock kernel (an undo) before flashing a rooted one. I don't have TEP.
It's still a bit early for the issue to be too widely discussed.

Nice. I was told by a helpful Sprint cust. serv. rep. a while back that you should update your PRL & Profile when you go into a new area (tavel, move, or even long commute to work) regardless of which phone you have. I would think unboxing your phone would qualify as well. It sure couldn't hurt.

Ever owned a Samsung phone before?
This is my 3rd one and I swore after the last one Id never buy a Samsung phone again but I got sucked back in. Samsung is notorious for shipping phones with all kinds of bugs that should be considered showstoppers then pushing out fixes months later.
It would not surprise me at all if that was the case here. I am one of the ones having this issue and I am not rooted. Ive lost data several times after hanging up a call. The data never restores and I have to toggle 3G to get it come back.
I dont think this is a kernel issue. I think its something to do with the rest of the OS, either that or the kernel is a different problem thats just acting the same way.
Ok thats what i was hoping to find is nonrooted and rooted people who are having the issue. Now on my moment this issue was huge so i went to htc and maybe thats the case again. Maybe sammy dropped the ball again. Question is what can be done about it.

I've owned 10+ android phones in 3 years. Modding them/putting on different roms/etc would have its benefits, but in the end it just caused nothing but issues (either major or annoying minor ones).
And when I put the phone completely back to stock, it just never ran as good as it did when it really was stock before I started modding.

+1 Learnt the lesson from the developer tablet, the Xoom. Rooted it expecting great advantages and then discovered rooted Xooms couldn't rent movies, no longer got ota updates (but still got the annoying update messages)....
I flashed my HTC because they didn't have the gingerbread update for the Desire z for months and to get rid of sense. Flashed my Samsung SG2 to get rid of touchwiz.
But don't see any reason to mess with Google's best efforts - particularly with Wallet and the like being a big part of this phone's future (the thought of some stranger having complete control over my system when using my phone to pay for things worries me).
Still no update in Australia. Still on 4.0.1 and my phone is the Google direct version.

The chase stops when you stop looking for a ROM with all the features you want and make your own.
I think it depends a lot on how much you are willing to mod for example, when I went and upgraded to 4.0.2 my radio updated as well which made my GPS useless so I modded and downgraded my radio back and I have never been happier.
And once voodoo mod makes its way to the galaxy nexus I don't think it would be easy just letting it slip by...

So now you have to buy a phone and make your own software on top of it ?
I liked to flash mods on my Nexus One, it was fun, I found the CyanogenMod pretty good for me. But I did not root my Galaxy Nexus yet and I don't really feel the need to, except to get the official updates.
I think that as soon as Google released the 4.0.3 source code, they should have released the OTA for the Galaxy Nexus as well as the Nexus S. I compiled the official 4.0.3 from the source, but I can't flash it because I did not root my device. I find this a bit strange.

Nope, alright, weird, tw has power savings mode that would kill it, but aosp specifically that ROM I'm unaware of said feature. And since its occurring on both ROMs you may be in a pickle.

Yes, it's been working fine until few days ago when I noticed that I'm missing calls and texts due to phone not vibrating in my pocket. At first I thought it was a kernel issue (I was using Hyperdrive rom at that time) so I tried different kernel and it did not fix the issue to yesterday I installed KK remix to see if that fixes the issue but had no luck with that either. So at this point I think it might be a hardware issue and the vibration motor is toast. I went ahead and ordered a replacement and will try my luck with replacing the original one.

Yes definitely weird.. I would've tried to Odin the latest ne6 stock before in ordered a replacement, but as long as you have it solved that's a plus.

I thought about going back to stock to test but then decided against because I didn't think that it would make a difference as I have already tried different ROM with no success. Do you think that going to stock could make a difference?

I see different version of STOCK ROM in the forum. Is there any particular one you recommend?

Yea I would use this one, they all are the same build, just packaged a little differently.

Flashed stock ROM but still no vibration :'(. So I guess I will just wait for the part to arrive so that I can operate my phone.

Yup, for sure. Super odd to me still that its broke like it is, but, can't argue with stock fw I guess. Thanks form taking the time to actually trouble shoot the issue. Surprised how many people don't want to take that time.

Ya, it is very odd. Never had that happen to any of the countless phones that I've owned in the past.
Thanks for all your help.
For anyone who might be following the thread, I got the replacement part from Amazon and replaced the the vibrator. Everything is working as expected. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Is there a stable (fully working) vanilla/pure android ROM out there yet?
Yes, but they are hidden from people who don't search first...

Yea but it's top secret since you did not post this in the correct section we can not tell you
Nothing out there that is fully working... Still waiting
Sigh. The bad habit of posting before searching seems so much worse in the G3 threads than any other phone I've owned -__-

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered what the gs3 q&a section looked like. On any given day you would see the same question get answered about five times.
Nothing yet.
Items not yet working:
Camera
Bluetooth
LED Light stays on initially until connected to a charger.
Lockscreen will sometimes momentarily freeze on unlock.
With Lollipop around the corner I don't really see these things getting fixed just yet. I would put money on the fact that the devs are going to be more focused on getting a functional Lollipop ROM before spending a ton of time on working out these nagging issues.

Just a heads up is all
Sorry to those of you that were angered by my original post, that was not my intention....But it sounds like we will see 5.0 by the end of the year. I just wonder how much LG will change it so I will probably root and install a custom ROM anyways.

You can always flash a stock based ROM once it's released too.
My camera is working so they should have it fixed soon
