It is with the official ROM. I'm still playing around with it. I liked so far. But, I'm having problem with the GPS. IGO/Navigon doesn't detected there is built-in GPS. Google Maps activated the GPS and locked sats thur active sync with no problem. I do not have/use data plan on my phone. For starter how do I enabled or configure the GPS, right now its set to Manage GPS automatically (recommended)?
I thought GPS uses a data plan, but regardless, make sure that you have location set to on,

if you are still in TF3D there should be an option in the settings tab as well.

I am not mental, but GPS is global positioning system. it uses satellites to track your devices location, but it still has to send that information to you.
I should be more clear...GPS can be accessed w/out data, but that doesn't do any good. You need programs like google maps etc which download the map onto ur phone. Thats great you can see your lattitude longitude but it doesn't do anything for you unless you are a damn navigator for a cruise ship.

OMG !!
Have you ever heard of Google ?!
It works like a radio, the data is sent by a number of satellites. The receiver picks up the data and triangulates your position.

The maps don't have to come via a mobile data connection, they can be stored on your device. You know - SatNav !

Yes I use google maps...and as such everytime i loaded it I saw my data being accessed because it had to load maps. I'm just trying to save this guy his money in case he thinks using google maps is going to be free.
Satnav....no thanks:
"Woman runs for her life after satnav leads her into path of a train". ... "BMW left teetering on 100ft cliff edge after sat-nav directs driver up steep"
needless to say you need to purchase most programs that will have the maps on ur phone.
SatNav is like Google maps for people who want to drive.

Easy there super chief!!
Some GPS-enabled apps do indeed require a data connection to communicate with servers in addition to the satellite-sourced signal they receive. If the esteemed Mr Snow here hadn't ever used any apps that don't require this, it's not a grand leap of logic for him to have the impression that it's always necessary. An incorrect impression to be sure, but still not as jaw-dropping as you imply.
Either way, wrong or right, there's no need to be so harsh...your sanctimony is unwarranted here.

I don't insist on getting it wrong, I wanted someone to explain to me like sirphunkee did the situation. I did not want to be belittled publicly by you. There is a big difference in how the information was presented, which in turn affects how other people view and absorb it.
But you did get it wrong !
Anyway, I refer you to post #7 in this thread

Dude, it's not your message, it's your delivery.
Here...try this:
"Actually, while some GPS apps do require a data connection, sat-nav and many other apps don't...they just have the data they need stored locally. So, the OP could still get use out of his GPS w/o a data connection, as long as he uses the right app(s)"
See...? It cleared the point up (your stated purpose), without the disrespectful tone. Regardless of how you percieve the person, there's ways you talk to strangers in public forums...and ways you don't.
Since you're so fond of Google, here's two for you to look up:
"tact"
"couth"
I think it's more important to get the facts right, my friend.
What do we want here ? A board full of people telling each other things that aren't true or a source of information ?
I use Google all the time to search for answers to problems that I encounter in various situations. It's not good to repeatedly read page after page of threads from random forums only to get to the end and have no conclusion. I would much rather have the truth quickly and concisely than a bunch of people commenting about things they know nothing about. No matter how it's delivered. How about you ?
PS I'm glad you've now figured out what ROM stands for lol

Nobody said getting the facts right had to suffer in the name of common decency...or are you saying you're incapable of being correct and civil?
You imply that you treat others this way because you see no reason not to...but to what end? Who does it benefit?
We're not asking you to abandon your grand quest for truth, light and clarity...just to not devalue the same populace you seek to serve so nobly.
I was trying to make sure that the person who posted originally got the message and was in no way trying to degrade that person.
In fact I'd also like to point that person towards the following thread :

It has some useful GPS tweaks. However it's also a sticky and so I'd like to suggest that answers to questions should be searched for first. It's very unlikely, esp with a device that's been about over 6 months like this one has, that you'll be the first to encounter any problem or situation. Otherwise we end up with thread after thread discussing the same thing over and over. And what good is that ?
Not that long ago I went on thread after thread showing people that mobilespeedtest.com gives erroneous results. It was unbelievable. Lots of people were being lead to believe total rubbish. There was thread after thread of this rubbish.
What is there to be gained getting things wrong ?
Sorry guys I didn't mean this to be a debate. Thanks dik23. I will take a look at the following thread.

This happens when I'm reading in the Evo 4G Q&A forum. I'll read a topic/thread, then hit the back button on my browser (Opera 11.01), and a file download window will pop up, reading a different file name every time, but always from view.atdmt.com. I'm able to cancel it each time, but it happens nearly every time I try to "back out" of a thread. If I'm not mistaken (which I very well may be,) atdmt is related to ads? Maybe an ad not loading properly or something?
I've searched the forums, but didn't see anyone else with this problem. Like I said, I can cancel the DL, so I'm not too worried, but I was wondering if anyone has had this happen, and just thought the mods might want to know about it.
(By the by, my machine isn't infected with anything. I've run a full virus scan since it first started happening a couple of weeks back.)
Thanks, all.
A quick Google search shows it's probably malware on your PC. Have you scanned your PC for malware using something like Malwarebytes?
I've run all-out Norton 360 a few times, but I'm downloading & running Malwarebytes right now. I'll report back with results. Thanks for the suggestion.
Well, I ran Malwarebytes, and it found one problem in the registry (which I had it fix). Rebooted, opened the forum back up, and for the first couple of threads, everything was fine, then boom, another file download. Only difference this time is it says it's from ad.doubleclick.net. Again, I can cancel it, so I'm not too worried. Guess it's something I'm going to have to live with.
Thanks again for the advice, anyway.
These domains are safe but shouldn't be trying to download anything.
Does it affect you in another browser?
After futzing with the forum in Firefox, I can't seem to recreate the problem. Must be Opera having the problem with something. I just thought it was kinda weird that it only happens in that particular forum.
Soooo, yeah. I'm too much of an Opera junkie to flip around browsers when I want to read that, so it's something I'm going to have to deal with. Maybe it'll be fixed the next time Opera does a little update (fingers crossed).
Hi, i'm facing a really annoying problem.
My browser takes ages to load a page. I mean, the top div gets loaded very fast (as you expect) but the rest takes about 1 minute or more to load the rest of the page.
I have this strange problem only if working in my notebook. With my mobile everything works like a charm.
Is someone in the same situation?
Is XDA doing some maintenance stuff or something?
Thanks
Was having this issue yesterday during work but today it seems to be gone. Could have been an issue with something down the line (DNS, regional routing, whatever) that just caused a temporary slow down.
Short answer is no you aren't alone. Should be gone by now or soon.
I hope so, thanks
i have the same problem
I think I found a solution (even if it is not absolute).
Go to you profile page and set the sytle (at the bottom of the page) at xda classic
Now try to navigate... it is as fast as it should be.
At least, it is for me!

Yesterday in particular the site was slow because we had processed some upgrades that didn't go quite right. Things should be good now.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm still having the problem.
However, I tries my "solution" on another machine, and it works too.
If it can help other user, you can add to FAQ main page.
I hope it's only a matter of time as the 2010 theme is really pretty. The classic one is just a little bit... old-fashioned.
so many background scripts running, because too much function and too much rules.
post limit to access certain service, wth....
i got bugs to inform the developer but ending to make several useless posts here first.
xD
If xda very slow, be patient!
works well for me
I think i didn't get your point...
I just tried to understand what is happening here...
I also found out that changing theme speed-up the loading process, and i want to share this with other user that are having these same issue... if you want to wait ages to check a page you are free to do so, but please leave other do what they prefer!!
It occurred to me quite often in the last months but, probably, I was "great" enough to decide loading xda when they perform the maintenance of the forum...
Today i noticed a very slow loading here...
I checked my ping and noticed that everytime i open XDA my ping goes from 20ms to 1500-2000, even after not loading any threads and leaving the PC alone for many minutes. When i close XDA, ping goes down to normal.
Please fix it. Maybe some buggy ads or something else.

also cdn.viglink.com is blocking for a long time
Can you please fix it?
Fix available (at least for me):
change DNS in your router config to the ones offered by opendns...
Now everything works like a charm.
i shouldn't have posted this here! just notice what section I was in (found this thread in a search)
i'm using ie9 and when i post a reply(not quick reply) and I try to click my mouse pointer in between letters of the words I type, the mouse pointer is not displayed.
When I try to open Samsung Hub it crashes while trying to open and gives me an error message saying that 'this service is not supported in this country'. Samsung Watch On crashes and says that it 'can't detect country, please try again later'. I've tried resetting after force stopping and clearing all app data as instructed by Samsung's "help". It would be odd if this service actually wasn't available in this country especially as they offer that $50 credit for purchasing tablet. I'm wondering if this is an issue that everyone is experiencing or if it's just me.

That's weird, they're both working fine for me on my US Note 2014. I have seen a couple of other people report that issue too though, I'm not sure why it's doing it, but most people aren't having those issues.
I would guess that for some reason the tablet doesn't think it is in the US. One place I would start is a close examination of your router and wifi. Do a traceroute and see if you can find any evidence of an IP address outside the US.

So, I tried a traceroute, something I've never done before, and it shows my connection jump all around the world practically. If this was the reason for the apps to fail to recognize my country, what, if anything, could I do to fix it? Thanks for the help.

Can you post some traceroutes? Do sites like Yahoo, Google and Comcast.
Also can you get into your router configuration settings and see what time zone the router is set to?

You might have to baby step with me a bit here. Previously, I just went to a traceroute website and typed google.com into their search box. It gave me a list of IP locations and showed a map with a physical route on it. It appeared to jump all over the place, between the US, where I am, and somewhere in Europe. Just now, I did it again and the route seemed to stay within the US. It should be the same info I get regardless of which device I use to perform this, right?

The time zone was wrong, but after changing it to the correct time zone, the issue persisted. Is there another setting I need to change? Thanks to the both of you. Samsung hasn't been especially helpful here. They had me clear the app data, confirm the time zone on the tablet, and even a factory reset. Didn't help. I still need to try connecting using another Internet connection than my own, once I get some more free time!
I needed help with a problem, and XDA is the best place, in my mind, to help:
The Story:
As of yesterday, and until May, I am in possession of a chromebook (HP-14 model). It is registered to my school, and the system has it on lockdown. On lockdown, it is almost useless for me (I love tinkering with stuff, as I am a member of this website). I want to boot from USB.
So far, the only way to boot from USB that I have found is this here, which tells me I need to be in developer mode. Easy stuff. I run into trouble when getting to dev mode it will delete all local data. This will take all of the school's administrator settings and configurations off, which will not be acceptable when I turn the laptop back in.
The Point of the Post:
This is what I really need help with:
1) How can I backup all the settings and configurations (and restore them)? (not just files, files are easy)
--Preferably something like a recovery on an android device where I can just restore before turning it back in.
2) Is there another way (without losing data) to boot into USB?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much for the link. My questions are: What was deleted when you went to developer mode? And how did you get it back to original condition before returning to the school?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Free mobile app
nothing was deleted
once signing back in using school account, it'll sync school wifi passwords, school information and all that
you can add a ubuntu chroot to the hard drive and use that in parallel (someone who isnt me used this to cheat on every test )
to remove it, just restart chromebook. press spacebar. it'll wipe the chromebook completely

Thanks again, I think I am going to try it. All I need is to be able to boot from USB. Last question (I am hesitant just because I am part of the pilot program for these notebooks, and I really don't want to get caught modding): When the notebook (HP 14 model) is wiped, I will be able to sign in on my account and all of the original school restrictions and WiFi password will be synced? (In other words, you are suggesting all of the restrictions are saved with my school Google account)

you'll have to play with it a little bit. i was part of my school's pilot program. Didn't get caught, although they suspected but couldn't prove it because of how I said you can wipe it so fast. All the restrictions are saved with your Google Account yes, but with a chroot you can switch between normal chrome os and ubuntu with a keypress and hide it whenever. Deniability is key.
