Evening,
A friend of mine has a Desire Z and would like to root it.
Because i have done this before with my HTC Desire and my Galaxy Note he asked me to help.
The rooting of the normal Desire and the Gnote were pretty easy so i never had to created a account on XDA.
Learning the hard way and reading did it all for me!!!
But this phone is different, i have to do much more stuff than my previous rooted phones. ( plus its not my phone )
When im reading the forum of the Desire Z im getting confused on how many threads and stickys there are to follow.
Can someone please help me, and guide me to the best way to perm. root it so he can enjoy his Desire Z
Use the xda wiki or straw metals PDF guide, both are the same but one may be easier to follow than the other for you. A quickly Google search will turn up the proper guides

I assume you have ADB up and running and knowledge of how it works?
For me the following guide greatly helped me.

Today I have permanently rooted my desire Z, but unfortunately I can't find the proper guide back at the moment. If I can locate it, I will let you know.
Tank for the quick reply!!
Will give it a go this week

Just wondering cause I seen my friend with his CM7 root and loved it. I've been researching for a couple of days now including reading the wiki but want a clear cut choice from someone who has rooted and I want to make sure I use the newest safest method.
I followed the Wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD on this site about a week ago and it worked for me. Wasn't too hard but you should follow the instructions to the letter. Read and re-read and then make sure you have the ability to do all the steps before you actually start. There is nothing scarier than watching your phone get stuck in a boot and thinking you have bricked it!
Having said that, I'm running CM 7 RC2 now and it's made my phone so much better.
And if you don't have ADB, this was helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
I see nothing you developed in this thread dude...do you not know what Q&A means????? Just in case its questions and answers. Sorry for being harsh but this **** is so easy to avoid you kind of deserve it

Was also looking for an all in one guide but no luck. They have it on Desire HD it was so simple and easy to follow. the wiki was fine though. If you found one hope you could share it. I'm not even sure if I missed something.
How did he post here with only 8 posts??
Thanks Tangiers for the info but to Spastic 909 thank you for being useless dude I asked for advice in the wrong spot sorry. I wonder if I had posted in the right spot if you would have even posted anything I'm guessing not. +1 for the Troll then I guess.
You are welcome. Good luck and don't be put off by it looking complicated. I am no expert but managed to do it without any problems.
And once you have root, a whole new world of fun opens!

Also you should only post a question when you are 100% sure it needs posting, doing a bit of Googling would have got you the answer to your question. Hope it helps.

I had also no Idea to start with this process. I sat down and read all the posts about rooting in the developer section and after about three days with testing I got it right.
My tip is to read as much as possible, you will find the answears for everything in these posts, you just need to spend some time reading. but its worth it in the end.
At last got my DHD the way its supposed to be with Android Revolution 4.0
Good luck

Hello everyone,
I couldnt find any specific thread addressing this question.
I used to have Inspire 4g but now I'm on a Desire HD, since the 3G hz is 2100.
So I'd like to know if I can use the same rooting methods of Inspire 4G on the Desire HD.
More specific, could I use the methods described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
On my Desire HD?
I ask because the desire methods seem a little more hard a time consuming.
Thank you, this forum has been so helpful I can thank enough!

Holy hell!! And you think the methods described in the Desire HD forums are over-complicated.
in short both methods involve:
1 Make a goldcard
2 Use an early version of ROM to downgrade
3 Gain root
4 Make S-OFF
I can't tell you if the program you mention will work or not, I have my doubts, but there are one click programs for the above and even doing it manually seems a lot less fuss.
And I can tell you something for nothing, even when I ran Windoze there was nothing on this earth that would have made me install the .net framework, especially not just for something that can be done without it. Wow!!
I THINK THAT THE ONLY THING THAT HAVE TO DO ITS BROWSE THE "ROOT DESIRE HD THREAD" AND READ ABOUT.....
HERE IS THE THREAD... EASY...

Sergi, you know I'm the first person to tell someone to search the forum (it's even in my sig - "How to..." link) but to be fair, the OP was only asking if the same tool could be used rather than how to do it.
Play nicely!

getting fed up of my running out of memory when i have hardly anything installed and i now want to root my desire to the latest and best rom
but i have no idea how to do it ive had a look at doing it but its soo confusing with all the topics about rooting can anyone show/tell me what the best way of rooting my desire is thanx in advance
Hello,
Glad you've decided to root! Best thing to do is to give this entire tutorial a read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
Once you've done that the rest is pretty straight forward, that's where I started .
As I'm on my phone now I'm feeling pretty lazy in answering fully, but if you have any more problems, feel free to message here again or send me a PM and I'll give you a hand / lead you in the right direction to rooting.
And also, the "best" ROM is personal preference, whether you like the feel and look of Sense, or whether you'd want to go Open Source, such as Cyanogen or Oxygen.
Hope that guide works for you!
Dan.

Xda, hello.
I'm not new here but then again I am new to the Desire section.
Anyhow, I'm seeking if anyone has rooted a HTC Android 2.2.2 but on Norweign Telenor.
I'm a Skyrocket user hence why I don't know jack about the desire. A relative has returned from Norway with a telenor Desire (service plan not active)
Mainly posting simply because I wanted to be pointed in the correct direction and not run around like a headless chicken.
Thanks!
-_-
What happened to the information users of xda?
Them users nonexistent?
Not asking for a $100 donation. Just asking for a little informational help.
