Xda, hello.
I'm not new here but then again I am new to the Desire section.
Anyhow, I'm seeking if anyone has rooted a HTC Android 2.2.2 but on Norweign Telenor.
I'm a Skyrocket user hence why I don't know jack about the desire. A relative has returned from Norway with a telenor Desire (service plan not active)
Mainly posting simply because I wanted to be pointed in the correct direction and not run around like a headless chicken.
Thanks!
-_-
What happened to the information users of xda?
Them users nonexistent?
Not asking for a $100 donation. Just asking for a little informational help.

Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
Don't remember there being a specific place for this here @ XDA.
But very social of you for doing so anyway, welcome.
And don't brick your device and be sure to sim unlock first if your locked to Orange with a Desire.

Hey guys
So here is the deal. Cellular South has just released a CDMA version on the Desire. I plan on picking one up very soon. Until then I am trying to find out if any devs would help me port a desire rom for use on a my network. Please contact me through pm or this thread as I will frequent it. I have no prior knowledge of porting roms for use on different devices. I am assuming I will be able to root the same way I did with my Hero as they are probably similar in that aspect. I would love to be active in this process and hopefully learn something that I can take to the next level and give back to this great community that I have had the please of being a member of for the past year. Anyway I'm starting to ramble. If this is a feasible task please help point me in the right direction.

You should be able to use unrevoked 3.2 to root and install any cdma desire roms. which opendesire is the only one right now, and its still got the backlight and oj problem.
its the same phone as far as i know as USCC released last month.

Hello everyone,
I couldnt find any specific thread addressing this question.
I used to have Inspire 4g but now I'm on a Desire HD, since the 3G hz is 2100.
So I'd like to know if I can use the same rooting methods of Inspire 4G on the Desire HD.
More specific, could I use the methods described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
On my Desire HD?
I ask because the desire methods seem a little more hard a time consuming.
Thank you, this forum has been so helpful I can thank enough!

ei buddy i think that you taked the easy way.. why you don't browse and judge by yourself? in the paragraph of android dev.forum.. if you had an rooted an inspire 4 you know how to find the correct answers.. please don't take it hard... you are going to learn more browsing than asking

Holy hell!! And you think the methods described in the Desire HD forums are over-complicated.
in short both methods involve:
1 Make a goldcard
2 Use an early version of ROM to downgrade
3 Gain root
4 Make S-OFF
I can't tell you if the program you mention will work or not, I have my doubts, but there are one click programs for the above and even doing it manually seems a lot less fuss.
And I can tell you something for nothing, even when I ran Windoze there was nothing on this earth that would have made me install the .net framework, especially not just for something that can be done without it. Wow!!
I THINK THAT THE ONLY THING THAT HAVE TO DO ITS BROWSE THE "ROOT DESIRE HD THREAD" AND READ ABOUT.....
HERE IS THE THREAD... EASY...

Sergi, you know I'm the first person to tell someone to search the forum (it's even in my sig - "How to..." link) but to be fair, the OP was only asking if the same tool could be used rather than how to do it.
Play nicely!

Hi, I have been looking for this thread but I haven't found it, can anyone help me? how can I unlock HTC Wildfire S? (in a free way of course)
thanks
You haven't seen the many, many threads of people asking the same question?
The answer is always the same:
You need to either buy a XTC Clip or go to a phone unlocking shop that uses XTC Clips.
Hi there.
I have been looking for the exact same answer. I bought my HTC in the Netherlands and need to put in a sim card from Germany. I even bought an unlocking code from the official HTC website but they were useless, the code didn't work and they didn't respond to any of my emails. There are so many reviews with people thanking the company for unlocking the phone and their great service. I didn't experience either of these services and don't understand what I am doing wrong. I am no a techno genius and everyone is quick to say it works but no one explains to people like me the simple steps.
I have heard about the clip and will give it a try. Hopefully this will work. I will report back on the results.

ATTENTION NEWBIES!! READ THIS POST COMPLETELY
Seems like you are new to Vbulliten forums.....if you are not,let me remind you
There are some topics in the threads called stickies......they are the first topics you see and always remain the first ones....In the Wildfire S General section there is a topic named Frequently Asked Questions.....first check that out first and then post.....
It is for the better because it will save you from being getting shouted/abused at....
And to be strictly clear....
1.S-OFF/UNLOCKING- CAN BE DONE ONLY WITH XTC-CLIP(CAN BE BOUGHT ONLINE)
2.UNLOCK WITHOUT AN XTC-CLIP IS CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS.....MANY OF THE DEVS ARE WORKING ON IT
3.READ THE F.A.Q. BEFORE POSTING
4.MANY PEOPLE ARE HERE FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS THREADS LIKE THIS.....SO PLEASE......TAKE SOMETIME FROM YOUR BUSY LIVES AND LOOK AROUND BEFORE POSTING TO AVOID ANY HARSH LANGUAGE ON YOU
The XTC clip sim unlocks as well? I might be getting one soon, so I'm just wondering.

The XTC-CLIP unlocks EVERYTHING.....that includes radio,bootloader & simlock
clip is NOT the ONLY way to unlock a wildfire s.. i've just unlocked one with a riffbox.. granted that not everybody has this box but stating that a particular method is the only way leads to confusion.. i'm also pretty sure that the guys on this forum will eventually pull a free unlock app out of the bag at some point as there are some pretty hardcore tinkerers on here..
minirant over !!

Evening,
A friend of mine has a Desire Z and would like to root it.
Because i have done this before with my HTC Desire and my Galaxy Note he asked me to help.
The rooting of the normal Desire and the Gnote were pretty easy so i never had to created a account on XDA.
Learning the hard way and reading did it all for me!!!
But this phone is different, i have to do much more stuff than my previous rooted phones. ( plus its not my phone )
When im reading the forum of the Desire Z im getting confused on how many threads and stickys there are to follow.
Can someone please help me, and guide me to the best way to perm. root it so he can enjoy his Desire Z
Use the xda wiki or straw metals PDF guide, both are the same but one may be easier to follow than the other for you. A quickly Google search will turn up the proper guides

I assume you have ADB up and running and knowledge of how it works?
For me the following guide greatly helped me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Today I have permanently rooted my desire Z, but unfortunately I can't find the proper guide back at the moment. If I can locate it, I will let you know.
Tank for the quick reply!!
Will give it a go this week
