heres the best kept secret on learning about the android project.... its called the SEARCH FUNCTION. use it. use it flagrantly and without hesitation.
it is a newbi's best friend as well
You most likely won't get an answer here bro. First thing to do is what phone do you have? Go to androidspin.com or the unlockr to see video on how to root. Its pretty easy just follow instr. To the T. After you have root go to the most frequently asked section or the "read this before you start a thread" section and you can find all your answers there. Good luck. We were all noobs once

"its called I asked for opinions not facts". I don't want just specs and features listed. I want to know what people think is the most stable and reliable because in the end we are the ones using it. I appreciate the response anyway.
I think people are forgetting what forums are for. To discuss. If u don't wanna talk about the topic don't post move on im sure u have better things to do. I believe there are more people like me who want to get into this android development but are scared to ask questions because they are shot down by know-it-alls. Feel free to post here I have plenty of questions and I know on xda u guys got plenty of answers.

the thing is there are numerous posts about the same thing and they take up space. if you look around before asking a question, youll usually find your answer on a bunch of other posts.
so as you can see, there are numerous previous conversations about the same thing, it gets redundant. and "whats the best.." is a horrible question because they are open to user opinion. you actually have to either try them all or actually read the specs
Sorry but I'm not too familiar with wm 6.5. Android was however ported to the hd2 which runs 6.5 with cyanogen mod and I hear it runs virtually flawless. I would do a search for tilt 2 and I'm sure you will find what you're looking for.

You should find what you're looking for on you tube. Or google android ported to tilt 2. Was just there and you should find it and decide which is best for you. Good luck and great decision to go android.

Just go to the first post at the top of this forum [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [10/04] BATT UPDATES! and install the cab file that you will find in there. Install it to your "SD Card"
Its not perfect but it works well.
Give it a go, dont like it, uninstall it, simple.
Yeah, what you are looking for is on the first post of this forum.
Its not a fully working ROM, but boots from the SD card (Windows Mobile stays on the phone). Some things don't work (Bluetooth, camera, some other things), but lots of things do.
gilnino: no offense intended, and I know you are trying to be helpful. But you're confusing the issue by telling the OP to look elsewhere, telling him to root, comparing to the HD2, etc. All the answers are here (first post top of this forum), there is no such thing as root in Windows Mobile, and porting to the TP2 has been much more problematic (from what I understand - I'm not a developer) than on the HD2 due to the TP2's CPU and other factors.
Just wondering cause I seen my friend with his CM7 root and loved it. I've been researching for a couple of days now including reading the wiki but want a clear cut choice from someone who has rooted and I want to make sure I use the newest safest method.
I followed the Wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD on this site about a week ago and it worked for me. Wasn't too hard but you should follow the instructions to the letter. Read and re-read and then make sure you have the ability to do all the steps before you actually start. There is nothing scarier than watching your phone get stuck in a boot and thinking you have bricked it!
Having said that, I'm running CM 7 RC2 now and it's made my phone so much better.
And if you don't have ADB, this was helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685

Was also looking for an all in one guide but no luck. They have it on Desire HD it was so simple and easy to follow. the wiki was fine though. If you found one hope you could share it. I'm not even sure if I missed something.

Thanks Tangiers for the info but to Spastic 909 thank you for being useless dude I asked for advice in the wrong spot sorry. I wonder if I had posted in the right spot if you would have even posted anything I'm guessing not. +1 for the Troll then I guess.

I was switching between an HTC Sense Rom and Gingerbread roms by using clockwork
Recovery 3.0.5 and selecting install.zip from SD card. Any rom that i try and install
Gets to flashing kernel and then produces error status of 7. I can't get passed the white screen

Any assistance would be so much appreciated.

Well said is quite the understatement. Has anyone seriously tried doing searches on this site for stuff? Sometimes you do find what you're looking for fairly easily, other times you can't find a damn thing that should be readily available. And if you're in panic mode because you think you just bricked your phone, are you going to search this entire site for an answer that might not show up in your search results? Hell no, you'd probably just create a new thread begging for help.
If you can't contribute and only talk down to people, shut your ass up. No one needs that type of attitude here.

I have to disagree.
First and foremost, give a man a fish... teach a man to fish...
The post you quote seems entirely accurate. The OP could obviously use more research as the answers are available. A little time with google alone will usually lead me to what I seek right here on xda.
I feel that the majority of xda contributors are more than willing to help if you show some indication that you have exhausted all your resources in finding your own solution. Though I do understand that moments of panic occur when nothing seems to work but it is always best as well as more satisfying to try and work through it yourself.
This forum does have a Q and A section that would be perfectly suited to handle this thread. The development section really isn't the place. You will get more welcome responses over there as that is its purpose.
Finally, as a member of this forum, I appreciate that of all the posts in this thread, yours (and suilmagic) were the only post that really did anything to help the OP.

I understand you point and I agree 100% people need to research their problems on a search engine (including the one we have here built in XDA (very handy)) because the majority of time, it will appear right onthe first page if you type your problem correctly, I agree with you. However, some users rather act in a certain way which would describe them as "assholes" if you cant contribute one way or the other why even post at all? if you dont know then theres no need to post unnecessary things. Just dont post and OP will get the picture and look somewhere else.

I agree with this as well though I hesitate at the name calling as it is also unproductive.
I miss the old days when we were all figuring it out together and questions turned to discussions. With the wealth of knowledge that has been built since then I guess some are not as willing to help others work through the problems. I do believe that if this thread had landed in Q&A it would have, or at least should have, received better response.
Well when I was new to this I thought I broke my brand new first day g2 because I got a boot loop (talk about panic mode xD) well I did my research and got it fixed thanks to me making a back up as soon as I flashed cwm...if anything it inspired me to get back at it...my advice back up your original shipping rom before you think about screwing around with stuff well now my g2 hinge is messed up extreamly loose so I'm returning it to stock :'( and sending it in....did I mention I'm 16? Update on HTC G2 Crashed and Bricked
I followed the instructions posted on this site to try and recover my G2 to no avail. After hours with an Android Developer the apparent issue was with the phone's internal memory.
I recieved a replacement and all is good. I've flashed a number of 2.3 roms in addition to roms that have Sense, flashed a kernel or two with no problems.
I hope I don't re create the same condition that started this post. I'm not sure what I did to cause the issue in the fisrt place.
Thanks to all the people out there who tried their best to help.

No offense, but you need a little knowledge to root and flash a custom rom. This isn't meant for the average user. It feels like everyone who gets an android phone nowadays (as it's becoming a more popular OS) want's to root and flash a custom rom as soon as they have in their hands without even knowing what it really means. The information to do all this is available here on this forum in form of guides which in most of the cases are quite extensive. If you want to root and flash a custom rom etc, you will have to do some reading on your own.
AFAIK this forum isn't here to hold the hands of android virgins as they try modify their phones without even knowing what a command prompt is. Almost every day someone new wants step by step instructions for this and for that even though there are good instructions out there. This forum is meant for people with some experience and knowledge that want to get the most out of our phones. New members are ofcourse welcome, but please, do some studying on your own too.
I was so scared to root my first phone last week. I sat for three hours reading guides over and over again to make sure I new what I was doing and I havent regretted doing it.
Too often I come across threads like this, if your not sure then you probably don't need to root, yet! If you decide to root read the stickies in the development thread, and don't say you havent got time to read a 100 page thread it'll be a lot quicker than fixing your DHD when it's buggered up

I DIDN'T need to downgrade first and simply followed the video on the bottom of this page.
(Youtube version)
I then simply installed CM7 rom via Rom Manager.
(I am rarely sick but I had been quite ill and in a lot of pain for a few days which was a shock to the system, and when I did get better, I had the mindset that nothing matters at all.) It's not easy for most folk to feel that way. Life is a game. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Unless you are unhappy or bored with Sense or the performance of your phone - there isn't too much reason to root in my opinion.

Thanks very much.
There's a lot of changes and benefits if you root your phone and install a custom ROM... First, there are a lot of custom ROMs, for any taste. MIUI imitate the iOS system, with the liberty of Android OS, for example, and RevoHD leave the original SENSE ROM, with improvements of course.
Then, custom ROMs have some interesting tweaks, like zipalign, the ads removing and a better management of the RAM.
To finish, I did it myself (running the MIUI ROM by Rey) and I have no regrets. After reading a few tutorials it was easy as ABC !
Like it was said before It's up to you, I dont intend to convince anyone, but If you wanna do it, go doing some searches. This forum has some tutorials, and anyone, even a noob can understand them.
