High usage, no apps - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey. So I am by no means an android noob but after installing a clean rom (bugless beast 10/31 build) I have anywhere from 100-150ish free ram right off the bat and ive seen other gnex users with over 300mb free with maps and other apps in the background. I know free ram is wasted ram but something seems wrong, is this normal?
P.s When I look at running apps/cached apps all the numbers register 0.00B. Maybe bugless beast is kinda buggy?
P.p.s I'm using fugumod kernel but its like bare bones stock so I don't see how that would affect anything

It seems like it. Try flashing another Rom so as to make sure it is not a phone problem. Try cm10.1 or stock. Hope it helps.

Yep seems to only be on bugless beast. After a reflash I'm down to 40mb free... no idea what's causing this

K cool. Hit thanks if I helped appreciate it.

I'm on XENON HD Stable-4.0 Franco kernel r364. Once I start using the phone, I have about 40 mb free more or less consistently. The performance remains excellent.
I also use the "seeder" app, which definitely helps my performance. The community is divided as to its effectiveness and I'm not sure why it helps in my case.
Not to be insulting, but why do you care about free memory? Is performance poor? Are you comparing it to other operating systems that have a different memory management model? Just curious where you're coming from.

Ktoonsez's kernel. Getting decent battery life and it comes with a built in tweaking app, ktweaker.
Kt747, I think you'll find most people are running ktoonsez kernel.

KT747! been having great battery life and performance. Also the ktweaker app is very useful
I use KT747 as well. Performance/battery life has been great, and I haven't even gotten into undervolting at all..yet
Stock Kernel + Stock ROM (LH1) + Cell Standby Fix = More than sufficient for me..
I run kt747 most of the time but my phone doesn't like it much. Tried faux and it was OK. I wish there were more choices. I had siyahs kernel on my gs2 and I loved that one. I see there's one for the i9300 but no att love

Ktoonsez's kernel awesome battery and no problems that i can tell
Stock
9-5b toonz
red s3 ocd 2.1
Faux's. It's the only kernel for this phone that I know of which has no issues and just works, stable, at super fast oc speeds.
I really want to try kt747 once some of the bugs are resolved.

I still can't find one that let's me move apps to the SD card. This is really driving me crazy. I tried "highonandroid" rom which switches the internal and external cards but had problems with some apps from the google play store telling me there was not enough room to download so I am back to stock.
Thanks

Why is moving apps to the sd card so vital to you? I'm not trolling, i'm curious. We have a ton of on board storage and big app installs go to sd anyhow.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I am not speaking about the internal SD as to me this is just my part of my phone internal storage that is filling up fast. I am speaking about the external SD card (mine is 32 gig). On all my other android phones (Atrix and Galaxy Note) I could us a program called Apps to SD and move some of my apps to the external SD card. We can't do this with the S3 because of something Samsung did and I am looking for way to do this.
Also, could some please post a link to Ktoonsez's kernel. So many are using it I would like to try it out.
Thanks
Kt747 is in original development, there's like 6 threads yu can't miss it.

Faux's jus got works and has no bugs or issues. It's better then stock and ocd up to 1.8.to fine tune you should get system tuner.
Kts kernel last time I read the thread seemed to have e a lot of bugs but seems to have great upsides also. I hope that most the issues get resolved soon as I really want to try to oc to 2ghz and play with gpu oc also
But If you need something that's as stable as stock just better.. Get Faux's

[Q] sgs3 lag help

Hi, ill try to be quick
I am on stock android 4.1.1 rooted. stock kernel. power saving mode off. full battery. half storage space still empty. Everything should be running smoothly.
The problem is that when I go to play games like nova 3 or modern combat 4, there is a significant amount of lag and stuttering and loss of frame rate.
Sgs3 is a good phone and this is a good processor even though its not the international version...
Does anyone know what might be happening?
Thanks
Have you tried to get the update? You are behind a little. The latest stock version is 4.1.2, build MD4. Not sure if that's your issue but it might help. You may need to do a factory reset as well.
I just noticed that you are rooted. You should back everything up, download all the new stuff from freeza's thread, wipe, and flash.

Just a thought... why did you suggest freeza's thread (this is a custom rom right)? Would cyanogenmod work? I have been trying to find time to flash to that and get a kernel for overclocking.

So basically you guys are just saying to update to latest firmware. I'll try that when I get time but it hasn't helped any before. I guess I'll try again...
Thanks for the help so far
People said they had better smoothness with the newest kernel and such...so like said above, just flash the WHOLE rom, not just the firmware, because the firmware will only affect your mobile data reception, not the performance of your phone.

Crossbreeder might help a little but I'm just looking why my phone isn't able to run these applications. This phone should be able to run them fine but mine lags like crazy.
Anyone else have any other ideas?
I would recommend changing the kernel to one which you can tweak a little. Change the governor and such. That way you can get a more performance based tune for the games. This should eliminate the lag and choppy results your getting now. I know with ktoonsez KT747 kernel and the different tweaks in the Team Kernelizers thread you can actually save several different profiles if you wish to run one for battery saving, another for performance.
Also keep in mind the games with the issues, are these online games that are relying on a data connection? Could the lag be a data speed issue and not a processor speed issue?

Thank you. These can be online games but the campaign is just as laggy if not worse. I guess my next option is to flash a new kernel and then to overclock after that. My question is that why would this devise not be able to run these applications?
Well thanks for the help everyone. If anyone has gotten either of these games to run on this device or have any other ideas feel free to say something.

Guys I don't think you guys should be worrying about ram usage. Unless your phone is noticeably slow because of low ram usage, you won't gain any benefits from lowering your ram usage.

Unless the process that is taking up the ram is actively running in the background, then yes.
Otherwise, inactive ram takes up the same amount of power as active ram.
Clearing your memory isn't a very good idea. Unless the program that clears your memory is specific on what type of process it ends, the system would just have to load up that process you just ended which also results in higher CPU usage, and a slower system.
If you are worried about your battery life, check to see what process is actively running in your background and end any that you don't need as these are just taking up your CPU time.
Correct me if I'm wrong haha.

You aren't. Watch what you ram does after you clear it out, it builds back up which is causing the CPUs to work, when before (if they were inactive) would just sit their doing no harm. It causes the CPUs to work to bring things back to light instead of just recovering what was covered (so to say) there about 100 threads on this for each phone and even more through out the world of RAM management.

Massive RAM usage

Does anyone know how to fix the massive RAM usage on the Galaxy Pro Tab 10.1?
My Tab is stock unrooted. Without me doing anything it uses 1.2 or more GB of RAM.

Why do you worry about it? Unused RAM in Android is wasted RAM. Let OS manage it, you don't need to pay attention.

But inaccurate. It has more to do with how Android manages memory, not with the TouchWiz skin.

+1 Android intentionally keeps commonly used code and apps in memory to save battery. Keeping apps in memory is more processor efficient than repeatedly dumping and loading them which increases load on the processor, and processor usage makes the difference in battery performance, not how much memory is being used.

Excellent post. I usually get to respond to these so thanks for beating me to the punch with very good information.
I know Android does a good job managing RAM and that other task managers are worth using.
I did think that using most of the RAM would slow down the tablet.
Thanks to all of you for explaining it to me, I really appreciate it! Now I'm more confident about having only 2GB of RAM.

Also, there are some apps which are using RAM that I don't use, haven't used, and haven't opened. I was wondering how to get them to stop using RAM because there's no point for them to use my RAM when I don't use the app.
Most are stock Samsung apps.

RAM Usage

I'm just curious, does anyone else have unusually high RAM usage? I'm rooted and on SkyDragon, using SkyDragon kernel. My RAM is always between 1.9Gb and 2.3Gb. I have no idea why though because when I look through the running apps, there's not much there, not enough to make it that high anyway.

High RAM usage is GOOD!!! Unused ram is WASTED ram.
Please post questions in the Q&A thread

I'm rooted with SkyDragon kernel and upon a reboot, RAM is 1.5GB free, but as the day wears on, it drops to between 400-600MB free, usually around 500MB free and closes other apps as needed to maintain that 500MB free.
It was the same before I rooted or flashed the new kernel, just seems the way that Android is running the RAM on its phones nowadays.
