I was thinking, so many people have reportedly been successful unbricking, rooting , stocking AT&T... why not upload a CWM backup of the combination ?
I suggest this because I have been doing the unbricking over n over again for past 5 days, and have been getting stuck at different steps (i am following ditto text as mentioned in the post and I am not new to rooting and stuff) . There will be more people like me too.
Givien the backup image, anyone can flash v10f using LG tools, root it, install CWM by using dd or cat to mmcblk0p13 , reboot into CWM... restore the working CWM backup of rooted AT&T , flash a custom ROM and enjoy
Thanks.

I had my WF S S-OFF today and now I am looking forward for rooting it. But I am a bit confused about something: I read a tut about rooting WF S 2.3.3 Gingerbread with Gingerbreak apk and I also found this rooting tut on this site : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
I didn't tried before being sure to not mess up with my device. So does both methods work or which one is preferred?
Thanks a lot !
My bad, wrong post... linked to the same thread
Good luck dude!
Run gingerbreak, device will restart. You are then rooted.
so you say I don't have to install custom recovery and other stuff to root it ? Just gingerbreak will be okay?
Yes unless you want to have custom roms, then you will need to install a custom recovery which can be found in the development section.
Do I have a chance to restore back the original recovery in case of visiting service if phone gets messed up?
I am wondering if it's possible to use gingerbreak, then install nandroid get everything backed up (not sure if it backups the original recovery in the phone) then un apply gingerbreak and then install custom recovery.
So this way I can restore the backup with original rom and original recovery. Is something like that possible?
Edit :
Is it a good idea / practice to install Clockword Rom Manager as it will replace the recovery menu that I have to install for rooting the device? I am not planning to checkout roms for now, but was just wondering
Nandroid backup is in the custom recovery. You can remove everything if you just install a RUU. Also you cannot backup the original recovery as you need a custom recovery to backup your ROM.
So best practice is using tut on xda, then install Clockword Rom Manager to install nandroid also and take full backup and then play with the phone?
So did i get it correct ?
Yeah, but make sure you install the CWM from the development here or else it won't work. It's very simple to install it. As your phone is S-off you can install the recovery and then backup the original unrooted rom and keep that as a backup.
So
1-) I follow this tut : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
2-) Then install this CWM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229
3-) Then with using nandroid (I think it's included with CWM? I read something like that on a site) I will take backup of my whole phone (I still wonder how it will backup unrooted version of rom eventho it's rooted)
4-) Remove unnecessary branded stuff (I don't know how to do that, any app for that?)
5-) Then just mess with the phone.
So my last questions is : When I install RUU, it will get back to stock recovery, and when i install the unrooted backup it will be like a legal phone right ? (Of course i will turn S-OFF back)
Sorry for asking noob questions, It's my first time using android phone and it's been only few days since i bought it
You got it all right, except if you have never updated the phone, as there was an update which blocked gingerbreak you don't need to do most of it.
Also when you flash the RUU it will all go stock. S-off will remain as it can't be turned on. Not to my knowledge anyway.
I think I wont use gingerbreak method, I checked for updates when I bought it and it said no updates. So probably that fix is already included in the WF S :/
I didn't managed to find RUU for WF S somehow but i guess for now I don't need it.
Today the guy at service shop (for breaking S-OFF) said that there is way for user to set S-OFF back, but he said he doesn't know the exact way. I thought hard reset will fix it
Thanks a lot for your help !
No problem, also you could just run gingerbreak first just to see if it does work without following the other steps.
First of all,
What is Unbricking ?
Second Question:
If I flash my SU640 to GingerBread 2.3.5 , Root it using whatever method. confirm root using
"adb shell"
"su"
Install CWM using "dd" or "cat" to mmcblk0p13
Copy any custom ROM to my sdcard,
boot into CWM
Can I flash these customs ROMs successfully ?
If not , why not...
If yes , then why does the guide tell me to flash AT&T version of Gingerbread to install CWM.
P.S i have not been able to boot into AT&T GB using ANY guide so far.
I have been able to use CWM and root access on Korean GB though.

i'm fairly new here but i'm pretty sure about the following:
if you booting into cwm you dont need to unbrick. unbrick is for if you've bricked your phone through a fail flash or corrupted d/l or w/e.
if your reading a unbricking guide thats why its telling you to flash to at&t because if your phone is upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich then it got bricked by secure bootloader that gets installed.
you should be able to flash a custom rom as long as you follow the proper procedure, find the procedure for installing the rom you are using and follow it.
note: ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM IN CWM before flashing a custom rom. reasons for this are you could have problems with the rom and have to revert, among other things, also you may not like the new mod and want to go back for preference etc.
for my p930 i run cyanogenmod 10, it's jelly bean and it seems to be stable, after all it is marked as stable by the developer, here is a link for d/l and install instructions if you want to try it.
http://get.cm/?device=p930 this is where you can download CyanogenMod one of the most popular, there are others though if you are curious google them. I recommend a stable version for your first flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980505 <-- install guide, click on the show content button under the kind of rom you are installing... READ THE WARNINGS ON THIS PAGE.
*edit* dont forget to backup your contacts/apps that you want to be sure you have for your custom Rom as well. titanium backup is the generally recommended app for backing up apps and their data, there are tonnes of apps that do contact backups.
i was going through threads and i noticed that u have the SU version of the phone, make sure you get a rom that is compatible with SU640
Hi,
I will get my Optmius G Pro tomorrow. I want to ask a few questions.
1. Is there any way to hard brick the phone when I only want to root and install custom recovery so I will be able to uninstall unnecessary apps and make a full backup? I will use the methods - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360369 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362657&postcount=1 ? Alwo which recovery is working best CWM or TWRP ?
2. If my phone is hard bricked is it repairable I mean is it possible to be repaired in service even without warranty?
3. I will update my phone to latest Android before rooting and and flashing recovery, but if in a future there is a Kit Kat update will I be able to update it ?
I will not flash custom roms and kernels because I like LG UI for now.
Thank you in advance.

Depending on which Variant you get there are some slight to moderate diffs on how you go about rooting and installing a custom recovery and FreeGee. I can't stress enough to research the forum before you attempt to modify your device.
Try these links instead. You need to root the device first. Depending on which software version you have there are several methods in the General section. Please browse there. Ver 10p is rootable. Unrooting and restoring back to stock is not very difficult (well depending on which variant and which method you use.) There are two in the forums and one seems to cause more people problems than the other.)
FreeGee will allow you to flash Philz recovery (second link). Since the bootloader is still locked on our device you have to have a LOKIfied version of a recovery. I'm not certain the link you quoted has LOKI applied. If you follow the steps and research if you have questions you shouldn't brick your device. Since you are pretty new to this forum, PLEASE do some research. Some of the information in the forum is dated.

Thanks, friend, I am not new to this forum i rooted, installed custom roms and recovery's on my Xperia Miro and HTC ONE S, but with this LG everything is different.
I found that its possible to make full backup here - http://www.addictivetips.com/android/make-nandroid-backups-on-android-without-booting-into-recovery/
I dont know if this working but if working I will only root my phone which I think will be very safe.
When the device is here I will post its specifications but I am sure it will be E988
EDIT: Maybe i just will do this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362657&postcount=1 for rooting
and this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee_free&hl=en for intalling custom recovery. I hope this will be enough and no problems will occur.
Is there a option to lokify during installation of the custom recovery in freegee and should I use it ?
edit2: Does FreeGee has LOKIfied recovery? Thanks.

Yes FreeGee does have LOKIfied recovery and as long as the 988 is on the whitelist you should be ok. I used that (i have 980) to get custom recovery then flashed PHILZ version. I like it better. ALso I wasn't assuming you were new to XDA just new to dealing with the OGP. I have no knowledge of creating backup outside of a custom recovery. Again, good luck.

well u can root without problems. but be careful with freegee. there still are complaints about recovery bootloop after installing recovery with freegee.
I had the problems too and was faced with the low battery issue, when trying going back to original stock.
i dont dare freegee at the moment and wont use it anymore till its 100 % fixed.

How do you fix this bootloop? And which version is your G Pro ?
Thanks
Everything went great. No problems with FreeGee or the rooting process.
I just wanna ask is there a way with stock ROM to display new messages and mails on the lock screen? Thanks.

Hi guys,
I have a problem here.
I've tried a few new ROMs and I've decided to stay with my stock.
But when I recovered my stock rock in CWM saw that I still have emulated partitions.
For example my internal storage is seen in mnt/sdcard
I've bought a new MicroSD Card Class10 and install in on my phone but unfortunatelly I am unable to move my apps into the new external card.
There is no option in Apps Info to Move.
Also I've tried some applications to do that but still with no luck.
How to fix this? Why my nandroid backup didnt restore my data partitions?
Also, can I brik my device if I go to mounts and storate into CWM and format everything one by one ( system, data, sd card etc )
Then mount my SD card copy my backup from the PC and restore it? Will this fix my problem with the external card?
Thanks

Check out Ioroot25. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232
and then after that, Autorec will install TWRP for you. http://www.droidviews.com/install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-g2-running-android-4-4-2-kitkat/
you may get a white line issue when unlocking device after the flash, you will just need to use TWRP to flash the jdi kernal, whcih can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51974589&postcount=281

To root from stock (either 4.2.2 or 4.4.2) use ioroot (I'll attach the version I used for my LS980).
After you're rooted (verify with the Root Checker on Android Play Store or by Terminal Emulator >
Code:
su
Download FreeGee Free from the Google Play Store.
Open FreeGee, let it download the device list, then tap "Backup EFS" I HIGHLY Recommend This, as if you lose your EFS it's nearly impossible to get it back!
After your EFS is backed up, tap on TWRP or CWM, whichever you prefer (Team Win Recovery Project, or ClockWork Mod Recovery).
Now you're all set -- rooted and with a custom recovery installed. For more information about flashing ROMs, look here or ask me. The Sprint G2 is touchy with flashing ROMs with the new update.

I think You won't be able go get OTA as update is probably being flashed by stock recovery, which You won't have after rooting Your phone.
Rooting the phone shouldn't reset all of Your data, only unlocking bootloader will.
To root your phone just install customo recovery (there are many tutorials overall in the Internet) and flash the updateSU.zip.
That should be all.
I don't know if You also want to unlock Your bootloader, but if You do, then there's whole information on HTC website (you have to have an account).

Hi, I hope is not too late replying back to you, first of all, have you installed a Custom recovery already? if not, good you still can do a Full backup (with a stock recovery and all that) please paste here your "getvar all" (fastbbot getvar all) <-- that's the command.
Then download the clockworkmod for HTC One M8, with the clockworkmod you can do a backup without installing a custom recovery, If you flash a custom recovery on your phone without making a backup you will lost your Stock Recovery (and you will make the same mistake that I did ... )
After download the clockworkmod recovery, do the following command on your D.O.S Command promp:
"fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.8-m8.img" <-- this command will boot from teh Custo Recovery and not flash it. (make sure that you have Bootloader Unlocked
After that you will be able to do a Full backup of your system (including the stock recovery)
Let me know if you where able to do it ( so you can pass me the nandroid backup that you make
