Straight talk $45 unlimited plan

Does anyone have this plan? Im wondering if and when they throttle data, i called st but can't get a straight answer. Right now i get throttled after 5gb, if straight talk gives you at least 5gigs of full speed data it would be well worth switching for me. Just seems too good to be true.

They don't, common wisdom is that it's more like 2g/mo and 100m/day before ST throttles, but you won't get an answer out of them, ever.

You should look at the prepaid thread in my sig. It details all of the plans and there are lots of testimonials of people using them.
Common wisdom is that the Straight Talk plan caps at 2gb per month (theres no way they could do 5gb data at the $45 price point).
If you want more data you're either going to have to go with the $60 Simple Mobile plan, which gives 5gb+, or the T-Mobile Prepaid plans, 2 of which offer 5gb (then throttle).

so you are sure the simple mobile plan gives 5gb before throttling? Cannot find any definite number on their website just like straight talk. On tmobile/att/cincinnati bell websites it tells you the amount of data used where you will be throttled. At least they are up front about it.

It's not published, but just crowd-sourced that they offer 5GB of data. Many MVNOs choose not to publish whether or not they throttle/cap or at what point.

So after 5gb are you throttled or are there overage fees? Im assuming throttled since it's called unlimited. And simple mobile uses tmobiles network, correct?

My question for anyone using the gnex and ST is, does the phone use T-Mobiles network or atts? I read you can use either a T-Mobile or att phone and was wondering since the gnex is pentaband if you could potentially bounce from one network to the other based on which one had better signal? Thanks in advance guys.

You choose when you start the service whether you're going to get an AT&T SIM or a T-Mobile SIM (they can pick for you based on your zip code, but you can choose manually). You can't bounce back and forth, because the SIM is only provisioned for AT&T towers or T-Mobile towers. There's no roaming between the two.
When you order, its easy to tell. In the cart it will say "AT&T compatible SIM card" or "T-Mobile compatible SIM card".

faster data speed than simple mobile and very good coverage
however their customer service is non-existent
calling them is a waste of time
try their facebook page if you really wanna have something done
much more responsive (they probably won't fix your problem immediately but at least they are responding)

This is true of prepaid carriers. You save money but get no service. I call CS maybe once a year, so I think that's worth saving $40 a month on service.

Has anyone on straight talk At&t sim tried doing a voice call or video call using Google Talk? when I try I get a message saying I need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Anyone else getting this?

I am now using my Galaxy Nexus with Straight Talk on the TMO ST SIM card. Overall its great. One thing I've noticed though are the ping times. On ST I can never get a ping better than 300ms using the speedtest.net app. Also several times when I've woken my phone from idle, I notice it says its not in sync with Google services...the bars are grey and not blue. It usually goes blue again within 30 seconds saying it synced. I think it may be related to the ping issue, as I think ST data goes through a proxy before going out over the TMO network to destination. The data speeds themselves seem the same as they were when I was on Tmobile, but I seem to recall being able to get around 100ms pings or less in the same locations when I was on Tmobile.

Would changing your apn settings help out at all? I have a recommendation but I'm not sure how much difference it will make.

How can I delete the stock APN in ICS?

Hey guys, I use straight talk on this phone and thus i use a different APN than the stock T-Mobile one.
I have created that and it works fine except a weird MMS over WiFi issue that I am pretty sure has to do with the stock T-Mobile APN.
It seems in ICS it is harder to delete the stock APN, does anyone know of a way I can delete the stock APN?
And don't say just click discard, because it will not delete.

Turns out that after I Unlocked my phone, the factory locked APN went away so all is good now.

So far I love it. I bought both an ATT and Tmobile sim card from StraightTalkSim . com and have been trying out both networks.
It is the same exact service you would receive from ATT or Tmobile directly as far as coverage and speeds go. (except no throttling from Tmobile)
As most suggest, I have found Tmobile to have greater data speeds with HSPA+ 4G, while ATT has the better coverage and lesser data speeds with HSPA 3G, but still not bad.
As far as the 2GB limit goes, I've read that I shouldn't go over it, so I set my phone to warn me at 1GB and stop me at 2GB of mobile data to be safe. If you are a total mobile data hogg, it might not work for you.
I am usually on WiFi at work or home, so I really don't use much mobile data. Per Sprints website (my previous provider) I averaged 300mb a month of mobile data, max I used in the last 12 months was 600mb. I am sure my usage will go up a bit now that I have a data network that is actually useable speed wise, but I doubt I will ever hit 2GB.
For $45 a month and no contract, it is unbeatable.
I priced the same thing out at ATT and I am looking around $99-109 / month for 2GB data, unlimited text, mss, and xxxx minutes. So with the ATT Sim card I get a $99-$109 a month (actually better because minutes are unlimited here) plan for $45 with no contract and I can swap between TMobile and ATT any time I want (just takes a few hours to provision the phone each time. I love it! I

hey guys i got my GS3 about 3 months ago on ATT and im looking to get the NOTE 2 unlocked...i have my own plan on ATT and my family has a family plan on ATT but not using data/paying..im going to give my GS3 to them when i get the note 2..
do GS3 on ATT require data plans if i give it to them? i remember i gave my ATT iphone 3GS on my lil sis and i forgot that ATT will detect it and add a data plan..not sure if ATT will do the same if i give my GS3 to my family..

It most certainly will. The moment the SIM is registered on the network, AT&T, in their omniscience, will add the 30$ 3 gb / mo data plan...without consent. Their used to be a loophole with some old blackberries, but that has since been filled with gummy evils ported directly from the Death Star. Good luck.

oh bummer... thanks.. not sure if theres a way to unlock the GS3 ATT maybe that can solve data requirements
as for me going on a HSAP+ device will ATT mess with my data? i have unlimited data gradfather and i get 5GB till i get throttled..will ATT lower me to 3GB of data and throttle me when i hit 3GB? i normal use under 5GB of data a month but i did get throttle once on LTE to see how it was and it was not fun.. i remember there was a way to re set up from LTE to HSAP+ but im not sure if ATT will make me go to 3GB throttling with a unlocked device

Unlock will not solve problem. I try this on my phone.
About data you need to call and tell att you want to keep your data. Also if you have old sim card you need new one to phone receive data.( applay to iphone4/4gs sims too)

You don't necessarily need a new SIM, LTE capable SIM cards are backward compatible, but 3G Sims do not work in 4g LTE devices. As for your unlimited, he's right, you must call ATT and have them manually add it. While they cannot force migrate you, they will certainly claim an inability to readd it back on once they change it away. Don't let them fool you, they are more than capable to add it back on the account if they can ascertain the presence of the unlimited data plan prior to a device change. Just be diligent and you will get it back. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO CONVINCE YOU TO MIGRATE! The moment you consent to the change, they will not, under any circumstances, put it back.

They will take the plan off if you use no data but whoever has the phone will have to contact att every month because att will just tack the plan back on

The only other way to do this is to take data off completely on that line. I have kids and we have unlimited text, so I called ATT and had them remove data completely from their lines. They had phones that did not require data. They cannot get pictures texted to them, otherwise they can call and text all they want and I dont have to worry about them killing me on data. I have swapped one kid to a SG1 I got from a friend and they did not do anything with data, if you say this is a minor and I want data off, its off. They use wifi if at home or school and they are fine. I do not think there is any other way you can get away with this.

Forgot to mention that my Lil sis is using a GS1 with no data plan I remember they went to att and got it to that set up and they got hooked up from the att manger... So if I give my gs3 to my sis they will still have to call and let att know that she's using a gs3 and keep the same plan she has with no data.. I believe her plan has 600mins/5000 nights weekend with unlimited text with mms /talk unlimited mobile to mobile..
As for me is just straight up put my 4G LTE att sim on my note 2 and put the lte apn settings and good to go?

i am considering getting the note 8.0. I have two lines with AT&T and have exhausted myself on the phone asking them questions which they always answer no to. I have unlimited lte data on my main line. i would like to keep unlimited data on this line. i would also like to stick this sim card into the note 8.0 and have it with unlimited data. I would then change my other line to reflect phone useage as its just a dead line at the moment charging me 9.99 a month to continue it.
Im told by a phone rep that simply sticking the sim card from my sgs 3 into the note 8.0 would not work as per a "gateway" would not allow it to access data. i responded with so i change the apn ? they insisted that i could not get it to work and that it would not work
How do i take my sim with unlimited data and stick it into a note 8.0 and get unlimited lte data on at&t ?
this is the main factor in stopping me from getting this device immediately .

Which Note 8 do you plan on buying? If it's not the GT-N5100 then NO you can NOT use your phone's SIM card. The model 5100 is the only one with voice + data. The others are data ONLY. Therefore your service providers system reads the SIM as data only or voice + data.

hi there i have the note 8.0 SGH-I467 lte on att tablets on att are on a different baseband that cellphones i currently have my tablet on the mobile share plan which i think is the only way you can get a tablet on your service you can get up to 50gb on a mobile share plan just depends on how much you wanna pay for it but your method im 90% sure wont work and the fact that u might be grandfathered in on an old plan too could be a reason it wont work i suggest u find an att store near you and go in there and ask them.

thank you both for this valuable intel. i was looking again tonight and am not sure which model number they are offering me online. i can not as of this moment go into a store but when i get home i will go into the store to ask. the other option i am looking into before i get home is the entitlement check on att and exactly how att figures out you are wifi or bluetooth tethering , i refuse to loose my unlimited internet but i live a mobile lifestle and 5 gb of data will be gone in less than 4 days easy. especially if my son gets a hold of the tablet.
Also they have to be fuc*ing kidding me if they think for one second that im going to pay 80+$ a month for like 30 gb of data. cereal , my response to that is go fuc* yourself.....
when i was a little boy my parents made me watch a video called where theres a will theres a way well guess what i wont stop till i get what i want ... i dont think they envisioned this as the outcome .. hahaha

whats the difference between the 5100 and 5120 ?
I've read the wiki article i see that one has a 3g card and the other has an lte card , but other than that id love to see a ifixit tear down on this tablet i'm not sure though i goggled two days ago and didn't see a tear down. id like to see the internals as i don't believe there is much of a difference at all and even though 3g is ok i want an LTE version , i'm addicted to speed so i might be stuck with getting a 5 gb plan and adding 65$ to my bill ..

The 5100 is listed as a phone (voice+data) where as the 5120 is listed as data only...AT&T..U.S> (a receiver) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_8_0_n5100-5252.php

And answering your question in regards to AT&T knowing when you bluetooth vs Wifi tethering.
When you use bluetooth tethering you are using AT&T data. And they're keeping track of how much data you're using and when.
Wifi tethering cost AT&T nothing, in terms of data use, because you are using the data thru the Wifi provider. Usually a cable company.

to define , when i speak of wifi tethering i mean ad hoc network or wpa2 network from phone to my wifi only devices then it shares LTE data off phone to wifi network connected to it , not what you were refrencing ,
they have a way to monitor this , i already eat a butt load of data , when im home i can use 25-50 gb while home , im mobile and do everything on my mobile devices , at&t have been desperate to get me off the unlimited plan , but ive been religious about not doing that they can go F themselves for 80$ for 50 bg , i can use that easy , 5 gb is like 2-3 days tops for me ,
i do tons of stuff on my mobile , netflix , torrents, remote into other machines all kinds of stuff my phone is more primary than my laptops
but id like to use my laptops and keep unlimited , so either im considering adding a note 8.0 with 5 gb data plan , and attempting to figure out how to stick my unlimited sim card into it , or wifi tether it

Unthrottling Unlimited Data

I came from a Note 2 rooted. I was able to switch my APN to cingular servers and I was able to run 4G(HSPA+) being unthrottled.
Is there a way to do this on the Note 4 AT&T? I tried using the same APN settings as my note 2 and it just doesn't connect to the internet. I can make calls, but not go on the internet. (I don't even see the 4G symbol either)
I usually hit my 5GB limit in 3-4 days into my cycle..which completelly sucks, because I am shot down to dial up for the rest of the 26 days. I was able to bypass this before but the Note 4 is troublesome.
I also tried this one method by dialing *#*#4636#*#* but changing LTE to 4G didn't solve any problems.
Any help on how to unthrottle myself?

Soon you might not have to. The FTC is suing AT&T about their throttling practices.
But even without root you should be able to create a new APN . I believe?

Add this APN and switch to it to "unthrottle". It won't be 4G LTE speeds, but still faster than the throttled speed.

i dumped my unlimited data because of throttling. AT&T made it so ungodly slow that it wasn't worth paying for unlimited data. If they get rid of throttling, i'll be pissed.

I've loved my unlimited data plan because I figured out how to unthrottle myself. I know there is definitely a way to do it on the note 4 too.. Just have to figure out how to switch to cingular servers again!

I tried unthrottling myself when I had my S4 but nothing worked. I tried many different methods that people suggested. I guess it doesn't work on some devices or roms

You use to be able to change the APN to become unthrottled, but AT&T caught on. This has not been accomplished in years. Hopefully the FTC makes AT&T change their ways. I had AT&T unlimited data for years and just lived with the 5GB threshold. I recently switched to the 30GB promo plan and then the 20GB plan for the price of 10GB through retentions. I have not looked back and not once regretted giving up my unlimited plan.

Are you sure they caught on? I was unthrottled all last month when I had my note 2 (while switching APNs). Hmm, I really don't want to go to a 30gb shared plan because I have others on my plans who also have unlimited data and we all use up to 20gbs each.

I'm thinking the same.. I usually barely went over 5gb bit to be paying $30/month to be throttled was annoying so we literally just switched and used the double data promo to get enough to share... I'll be super pissed if they loose and drop throttling though.

Yeah, when I switched off unlimited data, I thought I was regret doing that but I dont. That double data promo is really convenient and made the switch, bitter-sweet.

You should have stuck with it. The FTC is suing AT&T right now about the unlimited data. Looks like them throttling users is illegal since it wasn't in the original contract.
Once this law suit is of over you will get unlimited data back no throttling.
