Did I get a good price? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I bought this phone off of the CEO of Canpar (Huge shipping company), Phone is spotless, its the blue version, 32 gb. He even left me all of his photos, facebook and even private credit cards (Do'H), Also a 4gb Micro SD and his SIM card. I bought it for $380 + $20 for him to drop it off. Came with 2 otterboxes.
Im just wondering if I have gotten a good deal.

Above average I'd say. Many times a semi-desperate person sells it for $300... now just makes sure he didn't report it stolen...eek
EDIT: oh it s 32GB then that's not even though the markup on the 32gb are crazy

I agree about checking for stolen. In fact, before you buy any phone from an individual you should get the IMEI and serial number and call the carrier who branded the phone (if applicable) and/or Samsung to ensure the phone is legit.
32Gb for $300 plus 2 otterboxes? What gives? Was he desperate, did not care, some issue with the phone he could, or did he switch networks and it was Sim Locked? This is where I would be cautious and ask some questions always (carefully of course because it may be they need the money or don't care and you would not want to lose the deal).

Just received phone "brand new" off ebay but missing contents

What is supposed to come in the box? A data cable with charger adapter right? Manual, ear buds and a sim card? Mine is missing a sim card and ear buds and charger adapter and manual. Don't need most of it really except for sim card and adapter but would be nice to have had all contents for resale value. Anyone know kill if t mobile will give me a sim for free?
the sim card u can get for free by going into any tmobil store and asking for the wifi calling simcard which they owe u, so thats a easy one to get! Actually the earbuds are really nice too bad u lost those!! Just buy a third party charger if u have tooooooo
Phones don't come with sim cards. you need to buy one from your specific carrier. Especially if it was unlocked.
and yeas, the phone comes with manuals, earphones and spare earbuds and a usb cable with AC adapter.
If you don't have that in your box, the phone was been tampered with. Try and return it if that doesnt work, then make the the seller gets a crappy reputation

What is that and do they really owe it to you? That sounds like wishful thinking. Can anyone else confirm this? Sorry if you're correct but I don't often trust the word "free", although they should provide a sim for free since you're so kind to sign up with their service no?

Well I went back and read the ad and indeed it comes with what it said it would so I won't bad mouth him, but what do you suppose the phone had been tampered with for? It does seem new (enough).
Just go in and say u were never given the wifi calling simcard when u got ur phone! Ur gonna need it for the wifi calling ota on nov 14th! They are giving that new sim card for free but i dont know how to prove to them that u bought the phone from a shop to get it?
Good ol' ebay.....
This is the reason why it needs to be obsolete. Id be super pissed at what was received, but then again, I don't use ebay cause of this type of tactic.
The 6 I tried all came with sim cards, so id say they come with them (I kept them too). It also comes with a $25 media hub credit (card says $10, but its really $25).
Deebo took your bike too?

Actually both SGS2 I got and also my G2X, G2, Vibrant, all came with a sim cards. Not sure why your phones didn't.
As to OP, I would contact seller and let them know what's missing and that if they don't ship you what's missing you will leave a bad feedback.
Most sellers don't want a bad feedback and are willing to help out, unless of course you already left a feedback.
That's the reason I don't buy my phones online, I go to the store (tmobile, Walmart, etc) and double check all it's there because you never know.

sounds like you got sold his old one because the seller got himself a new replacement thru mail with some kind of scam which is usually the phone by itself so he needed to keep the charger, ear buds and manual for himself or either to resell it later.. As to the sim card the seller probably already activated it when he bought the phone so of course he couldn't send it to you but you could always go into a tmobile store and ask for a new sim card they give them for free only thing they might ask is your account/phone number to make sure you're with tmobile.

Any phone you buy here from the carrier that you're using always comes with a new sim card if they use it unless if by some reason the in store rep took it away like so many people have said either to keep for themselves or to keep for the store stock only phones I've seen that dont come with a sim is when you purchase an unlocked version online.

High fees, scams committed by buyer protection when the buyers lie. The hold policy is also a burden. Fake products too.

ebay has its good and bad it really just depends on the buyer to make sure they read carefully on what it is that they're purchasing but in this case the seller listed it as "brand new" which should mean that it was in its sealed original box with all its content unless it was an open box display item then it should have been listed as "like new" but like you say its really his own fault for not carefully reading the description of the item before hitting that purchase button.

[Q] Do you think T-Mobile will get the 32Gb Galaxy S4?

It looks like the 32Gb version is coming to AT&T on May 10th. The rumor is Spring won't be carrying the 32/64Gb variant.

Let's hope that by the time AT&T releases the 32GB S4 it's just as easy to crack/unverify the bootloader as the 16GB currently is.. right now all I'm hoping is the other two unlimited-like providers (ahem, Sprint and T-mobile) will release it at some point to laugh in all our faces and be like "LOL YA GOTTA PAY AGAIN FOR DOUBLE THE GIGS"...
also I thought that the 64GB was a gigantic tease?
I'm waiting for 32gb too. But I want to buy from 3rd party since I have a upgrade. Ordering from t-mobile will be a last resort. Not selling the 32gb off the bat is a rip.

They all say the same thing, i am paraphrasing here - "T-Mobile will be carrying the 32GB and 64GB Samsung Galaxy S4. The availability schedule and cost is unknown at this time. Also, it is unknown whether they will be available on line and/or in retail stores."
I have a friend who is the manager of a T-Mobile retail store and he has told me the same thing.
I hope what I have been told is correct.
I will wait for the 64GB phone. Worst case I will buy one from Europe.

And what? T-Mobile representatives are as informed or less-informed than the XDA community here. It's the same deal with LTE. You can ask them and they'll tell you the S3 is capable of getting LTE, when the hardware is not even present. I tend not to really take their word for anything. If there was a 32GB S3 available, I am 99% sure there will be a 32GB S4 in the future. Only thing I can't promise is when it will come.

I can bet on the 32GB version. Still not sure about the 64GB version, since probably only a minority will want to spend $100 more for an extra 32GB of storage. 32GB seems to be the right size for the frequent users. I will point out though that since the HTC One and Iphone 5 are available at 64GB, it is a good possibility we will see a 64GB S4.

RMXO, I am pretty sure, that the 64GB AT&T Exclusive was for the HTC One. I don't think it was for a GS4.
Here is a link, but then again, I could be wrong: http://www.androidcentral.com/att-apparently-has-exclusive-64gb-htc-one
I'm not gonna hold my breath. Hopefully we can implement a "fusion" drive like newer macs. I know it's possible to make your own with a few unix commands, so I wonder if another dev and I could get it working on the S4. A fusion drive is basically a SSD+Traditional HDD that the system sees as one drive. It automatically moves the lesser used items to the slower drive and keeps the system intensive files on the faster drive. Essentially we could use this technology to make our MicroSD and EMMC appear as one unit on the OS.
I don't get it, why do people want the 32GB? The 32GB costs $50 more. For $50 (ok, $54) you can buy a 64GB Class 10 MicroSD card on Amazon. That gives you 80GB total vs. 32GB. Must be a good reason, what am I missing?

You are missing the fact that you only have about 8-9 Gb on board for all your apps and certain app data with no ability to move apps to an SD card (unless rooted). Plus, AFAIK, many stock and third-party apps (e.g. camera) restricts saving data (e.g. video) to the built-in storage.
I did thought about just buying a 8-32 GB SD card when I get my GS4 if the 32GB version hasn't been released yet.

Yes, I have the classic plan, $20 for data (5 Gigs), but I have my parents on my plan too. No discounts though. Plus, I'm sure they'll have a 32gb S4. AT&T's got one now. Sooner or later, the others will follow suit. Since I have a upgrade, I'm hoping to buy the s4 from 3rd party. Paying full price will be a last resort.

Where to safely buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

I'm in the US & using t-mobile pre-paid (which I love) and want to buy a Note 3. My normal go-to place is Negri, but in addition to the ""for international use only" disclaimer, the ones they have for sale also have a second disclaimer "no returns or refunds", which basically tells me that I'd be buying a bad IMEI phone.
So, other than paying $717.60 or taking my (highly dubious) chances on ebay or craigslist, does anyone know where I can purchase a new or refurbished Note 3 for t-mobile for a reasonable price ($600 or less). My on-line searches are turning up blank except for various resellers that I'm very dubious about.
Check swappa.com. they verify imeis before allowing phones to be listed.
I've read several reports of phones ending up with bad IMEI's from swappa a month or two after the sale. I'm specifically looking for a site like Negri or Newegg, where I can buy the phone from an actual shop rather than a person selling a used phone.

I have bought many phones on Ebay such as MDAs, HTC HD2, Note 2 and Note 3 and so far have been very lucky. I have had them all except the Note 3 which I purchased in Feb 2014 for over a year without any problems. In fact, I got them unlocked by T-Mobile even though I did not buy them from T-Mobile. I cannot suggest what to look for when buying, but normally Ebay provides protection via PayPal. I have saved at least $200 or more per phone.
Bought mine directly from tmobile full price on release day, unless you're trying to pay less and willing to take the risk then get it elsewhere

I hate to be 'that guy', but I counsel any and every person who asks nowadays to stay away from places like Craigslist, Ebay and Swappa. And this after purchasing my last 6 or 7 phones from either Craigslist or Swappa. After getting scammed with my Note 3 that I bought from Swappa (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605960), all I can say is, one time is enough to put you off those sites. @asctony used the right word, these days it's luck whether you get scammed or not. Even though Swappa says that they check IMEI/ESN or whatever, it really means nothing at all. An IMEI can be good the day you buy it and still be blocked weeks or months later for non-payment of EIP or because it was reported lost/stolen. And good luck getting T-Mobile to help you since you're not the account holder in their system. They won't even let you pay it off or tell you how much is owed on the device in the case of non-payment. As for Paypal protection, I thought I could use that when I bought my Note 3 from Swappa, but Paypal has a 45 day window after which they won't even let you open a dispute. Keep in mind that it can take a couple of billing cycles for a phone to be marked as non-payment, so that is a ridiculously short time if you actually want to protect purchasers.
Take @Dreamgun's suggestion and get your phone directly from T-Mobile or Amazon.
Agreed, I got scammed on a Note 3 off Craigslist 3 days after I bought it, will never again fall for it again, though I've bought probably 10 phones from there in the past.
I might be ok with eBay sellers if they claim that they're the original owner PLUS have a very reputable feedback.
If you buy a used phone from someone, I would advise to check the IMEI with the carrier of the phone. If the IMEI is reported good, make sure to get a documented statement from the carrier stating the reason and results of the check. At least you'll be covered with a piece of documentation if something goes wrong.

Have you done this before and used such document to counter a block or blacklist?
The reason I ask is that I contacted T-Mobile the day after I received my Note 3 from Swappa and explained to them that I had purchased the phone used and wanted to make sure that there was no way the device was on EIP. The CSR I spoke to assured me that it was not showing in their system as on a payment plan. But a couple months later it was blocked for non-payment of EIP. So it doesn't seem as if even doing a check through T-Mobile would make any real difference in these cases.
No I've never went thru this process before, but what I do know is that a little piece of paper can carry a lot of weight. Some CSR's aren't trained very well or don't care. Therefore you can't completely depend on them to always give correct information. With these type of transactions, it's always best to get some sort of documentation from the rep stating what they've told you. We give them the right to record the conversation, so it's not unreasonable to request a doc as such. Furthermore, if it turns out that you were misinformed on the matter, then at least you have tangible evidence showing that you were misinformed about the phone being clear of any eip when actually it wasn't.

My Advice: If you are already willing to dish out the $600 for a Note 3 put in the extra $100 and get a brand new one. It's just not worth it to spend all that money at the risk of loosing it in a bad phone. $100 is about 2 tanks of gas at today's prices for a phone you may end up owning for the next 2 years. It is a fabulous device and Tmo can finance it at 0% interest over two years. You can't beat that.
I agree with all the posts here. It is difficult to buy a good phone on Craigslist. If you have the money, buy a new one.
Also, it's good to ask around the work place, family and friends who might have one to sell.
I usually sell to people I know. If I can't find anyone, I sell them on Craigslist.

T-Mobile Double Your Data Free Memorial Day Sale

So for those of us that just picked up the S6 (Edge or not) T-Mobile is doing a promotion this weekend. They are offering the 64gb version for the same price as the 32gb. I just picked up the 64gb Edge yesterday and figured I would call in and see what they could do for me. Turns out they gave me an $80 bill credit. So if you just picked up your phone give them a call and see if they could help you out! It's a great deal.

Probably not much they can do for you. There's no discount on the 32gb versions.
If you get to the customer loyalty department or retail support, they could help you out though.
Did any of y'all goto their website? 128gb for 64gb price.

I bought mine a month ago, when I found out they lowered the price for the weekend I called T-Mobile, talked to customer service, I got transferred to customer loyalty department and they said there is noting they can do about it, one of them told me to trade my 128 gb edge for credit and buy another one at the discounted price.. lol... some logic there.
So I went to their facebook page and complained last night.
I got a reply this morning from their T-Force team to msg them on facebook with more details.
After 5 mins I got the reply I needed.
""You're most welcome, Michael. I'm glad you got the S6 Edge. It's a great device. The $100 plus tax credit has been applied, and you'll see that credit impacting your current balance due by dialing #225# and send on your device any time. *JB""
So I checked my balance and sure enough, it was 108 dollars lower.
Then about 30 minutes later I get the text msg
Don't take this the wrong way - but what did you complain about? When you bought the phone a month ago you were content with the price. You were not in your buyers remorse period like some of us were when we talked to the customer service dept. Complaining on a public venue about T-Mobile not giving you money for something you bought over a month ago is kind of ridiculous.
my complain was I had another 128gb I bought from costco, i tried to unlock it and I was told they cant because even though I bought from a tmobile kiosk in costco, it was not a tmobile phone, so I sold it and lost money in the process, bought another one then a few days later they offer it for 100 less? I dont think so.
As far as the 100 dollars, really? you would if you could, so please, don't give me that, and tmobile didnt think it was ridiculous, thats why they gave me the credit.
Its like buying a 75k bmw form the dealer and a month later they drop the price 10k for a weekend, you wont care? give me a break...
Anyways, even if you are out of your buyers remorse period, make some noise and your money back, unless you are mr money bags ^^ and you dont care

Personally, I don't find it ridiculous at all. Everyone wants to try and save some money here and there. Most retailers today have price protection policies for when an item you purchased goes on sale at a later time. My mom always told me that the key to financial management was always trying to find a deal so that the extra money you save could stay in the bank to earn interest. Then again, she also said, "If you don't have anything nice to say"....

Yeah, a few days maybe. Very few companies will do this a month after purchase. Why bother having a sale if they all honored sale prices to anyone who asks over a month after the original purchase? Asking about it is fine - and I understand that completely. Posting complaints about the company for everyone to see on social media because you were told no but feel entitled to the price difference is something else all together.

UK - Carphone Warehouse - Second recall thread

Hi All
As i'm sure you are all aware, Samsung has instructed to turn off all Note 7 devices. Our friends in the US have an official statement saying they can exchange versus a S7 or get a full refund.
Everyone else, we need to "take advantage of the remedies available".
I've not seen any official statements from CPW just yet, but let's all share with the community if there's any news on what is on offer.
<Stunned silence from the crowd>
I contacted them this morning, and predictably, they knew nothing.

didn't expect any less from them...i'm assuming some sort of official statement from CPW will have to make it's way out before they process anything
if they offer a 50% discount to S7E maybe then ppl would even consider to go with Samsung they proved to all that they can even make a recall right... Such a good phone and they managed to **** it up...
I have just called CPW. They have confirmed that they will issue a full refund for customers who bought sim-free or pay as you go. They are still working on customers who bought with a contract as "it's more complicated". As I bought sim free, I will be heading in store tomorrow to ask for my refund.
I returned my Note 7 yesterday, I pre ordered from the carphone warehouse in August (Contract Upgrade) and took delivery August 28th.
Exchanged the handset mid Septemeber due to first recall, did this in store.
Then the news of rumoured halted production etc etc broke a few days ago (Confirmed today), I took my Note 7 back to store yesterday, preemptively, before going through all of the same crap as last time. CPW customers on this board know all to well
The manager was at a loss on what to do, he could not exchange to another phone as the till was refusing, in the end I said it was faulty and after much debate he cancelled my contract, music to my ears. I can now go and choose another upgrade after 2 months with a note 7. Kept the VR, kept the free case and also £180.99 in debit card refunds due to various problems in exchange.
I will not be using the CPW again, will miss the Note 7 and its potential but personally, it's time for me to move on; I'm thinking Pixel XL. Good luck and push for the cancellation if you're on contract, experience shows that waiting for CPW will limit choice and will take an age.

Completely agree with you there. Don't think I will ever by from CPW again, i'm heading in store tomorrow to get my refund.
I'm at a loss as to which phone I want to replace the note 7 with. The Pixel XL in my opinion is overpriced for the spec, and you will probably feel a big different in design quality, as well as screen brightness / contrast. No screen can surpass the Note 7

Well if they think I am going to carry on paying £42/month for a phone that I don't have, they can forget it.
This is the BIGGEST pain in the ass. It's all well and good swapping it for something else, but as this phone was worth more than say the S7/S7 edge, how does that equate to being fair? I'm at a loss for what to do. What phone do I take? It's a real bummer because I love the N7

And the £8 difference per month on the contract?
So pissed right now, love this phone. Mines on contract on EE but bought from CPW can see things getting messy if i return phone. Contract started end of August, actually was a upgrade. Can Carphonewarehouse cancel my upgrade as cooling off period has long gone? I do not want any other phone ill just go back to my GS7 Edge thats sitting in my draw.

Indeed. How can we quantify a phone swap when all we're paying is the monthly cost? I paid £180 upfront for my Note 7 and £38 a month!
I will be telling them plainly and simply that I want my £59 phone cost back and I expect the Vodafone contract to be cancelled. "Fortunately" - if that's the right word - I haven't blown a load of money on fancy cases or peripherals.
£120 upfront, £20 on a case, Calls to Carphone because they haven't got back in touch. I'm expecting a hefty refund on top of a replacement! I need mines before Sunday, as I'm off on travels with work. I'm waiting on further info after calling them today, but from what it sounds like, there will be an option of replacing the device with a different one, and price plan adjustments.
I'm just hoping it's done quickly, and that I get a similar spec phone, Ideally I need 64Gb with Micro SD, or a 128Gb phone, USB Type C for other stuff I've bought, and a 5.5 or bigger display, problem being, I'm not seeing much alternatives... Any ideas?

I'm gutted. Truly. I *love* the Note series, but I can't see myself going back to my Note 3 until a Note 8 (if they haven't ditched the series). The closest alternative of course is the S7 Edge, same processor, same cameras, same design, same IP rating. Obviously though, goodbye to the stylus, iris recognition, secure folder, larger screen with HDR! Oh and goodbye USB-C which I spent money on switching to. GRRRRR.
My issue with the S7 Edge, is that the edges are too big, I trigger them accidentally on my friends handsets all the time, plus only 32Gb onboard, which means I'd need to buy a larger more expensive Micro SD (Mines is 64Gb, but I use roughly 100Gb in total on my phone) and why I didn't buy one! Not taking the stepping back from USB Type C, which I'd just switched to across the board! There's simply not really any devices that can really compare!
Absolutely devastated, plus as ridiculous as this may sound, I really liked the Blue Coral colour finish, I'm somewhat of a colourful person, and apart from rose gold (I'm not a fan) I don't really see any coloured phones, and I prefer having my phone naked, as I tend to wear a lot of skinny jeans with slim pocket space...

Did they mention a "refund and cancel" option? I don't want a different phone and a cheaper contract. I want what I ordered and if they cannot fulfil their part of that agreement (and they cannot), I want to cancel.
There wasn't much of a mention about full refunds, but then again, I didn't ask for that, cause I'm pretty happy with my price plan and such. I would imagine there will be that as an option, I am tempted to leave Carphone, considering other people I know have already got their replacement sorted direct with Vodafone. Not pleased at all!
