[Q] Use CDMA phone only for internet calling - HTC One V

I use my CDMA Virgin One V sort of like an IPOD touch. I do not have telephone service. For internet calls I use Talkatone and Google Voice. Does anyone know of what would be best ROM other than stock to use for these limited functions. I am using X3reme Sense right now and it good but just not sure if its the best for my needs. I am a Noob with Phone ROMS.

I'm a huge fan of slim bean. It's lean and fast. The most stable rom I've ever used. I think it will perfectly suite your needs, lightweight but works like a charm

0 reboots here.
Yes, I been using this as my daily rom since weeks, no problems at all..
And what about the camera fix? Does it work with 480p?

Too buggy for me

And this is why these posts are closed and lead to no where. Here we have one person saying yes and another no. "Stable" is subjective because of how differently we use a rom. Different apps/settings/usage.
The best advice anyone can give is to try it out for yourself and find out if it works for you

The ROM itself is pretty stable but it depends which applications you install, then it gets tricky. I've used it for two weeks with mixed results. Battery life was meh, but it was a decent ROM. Got rid of it today and went back to GB 2.3.7 cause its ROCK FREAKING SOLID (BlackICE 1.6)
P.S: I agree with the guy above me ^ flash the ROM yourself and see if it's stable for you, install some apps you'd normally use, setup email, tweak it as you like it e.t.c. Only then can you see if its stable for your uses
using it as my daily driver, no reboots, even though im a pretty heavy user, just make sure to try different kernels, for example i feel like the performance and battery is better on the bfs kernel rather than CFS.... and the room is VERY smooth

ICS finally not for the DZ?

first of all, thank you all for your daily hard work on the DZ. I check it every day and it is wonderful what you do. I love my DZ and will stick with it for a longer time. :victory:
but sry guys, if I look at my perfectly working MIUI 2.3.7 and all this threads reg. ICS "tries" there is not one release without problems. I try every release but nothing is like the old OSs. I need it working perfectly for a professional daily use.
Slowly I think the DZ is so old that there is no chance of an ICS working like MIUI or CM7 or so on this phone or do you think there is any chance to get it working perfectly? it is possible to correct the driver problems without any emulation or "ways that it works somehow"?
one of your biggest fans, Felix
Hi, i don't think that HTC will provide an offical update to ICS for the old Vison. But i think that the devs will get the drivers in future ready for daily use. Stop waiting for a final release. The Vision was always an perfect balanced smartphone between speed and user friendly daily driver. I also testet some ICS versions but the best is a good old CM7. Nothing works so perfect. Did you missed anything for daily use? ICS is only a dev gimmic for those people who are bored of a perfect functionally smartphone. Enjoy your DZ and smile on people who whats always new version that are not testet and optimized like CM7.

absolutely right, I thought so, too. :good: it is ok and I love my phone, it is still great. but I love many features from ICS, unfortunately I have to buy a new one sometimes. I want to stick with a hardware keyboard and manufacturers slowly distance from this solution. Problems for daily use? e.g. the cam emulation is simply crappy, pic qual. is compared to the real hardware, the ICS OS emulation slows down after a while, music player apollo is crap in my opinion (CM9) and so much other stuff. but it's ok, I will possibly keep the DZ with working OS for professional use and buy a SG3 or so to play around with ICS.
Thanks for you reply and enjoy your device too!
I have also an One X, but nothing's like the best smartphone ever built --> the HTC DZ. At the and i gave my One X to my Wife and i'm still back to my old DZ. No other smartphone is so unbreakable like the DZ, i really dropped it often on the floor. I'll give you a tipp: use your DZ until it's broken and save your money for future smartphones, there's today nothing to buy like the DZ. The smartphone Coops are so busy with patents that they have no time to built new smartphones like the DZ ;-)

And don't buy a sg3 it have a realy bad case quality, my best friend broke it in 3 days, only one drop on the floor.

good to know! because sg3 would have been my first choice but I hold it once in my hands and the case is really cheap plastic...ur right, nothing is like the DZ, its fast, good case and I love my keyboard...hopefully the vendors will not drop the idea of a HW keyboard forever! thanks buddy!
i'll wait for a new robust smartphone with a hw keyboard.
I think it's the best opinion.

Please, I dropped my One X a lot of times, and it ended with one, VERY small scratch on the screen. One X can handle drops on the floor etc.

I'm using EliteMod ICS at the moment (before changing to ics i was using cm7) and it is running very smooth! I got no problem with it and everything is working! Camera, wifi etc.
Imho the DZ is still one of the best smartphones!
A few weeks ago I was thinking about buying a new smartphone but with ICS theres no sense of doing that!
I love it..again

Same with same symptoms. though I wouldn't say camera is "working" yes you can take pictures and videos, but it will force close if you use either Smiley Effect or Time Lapse, but least you'd already know what will close it.
I think CM9 RC1 runs pretty damn stable. My only gripes are occasional GPS hiccups and less battery life. Also you can't record video but I never really cared about that feature much since the camera sucks anyways.

ROM for WIFI only use, no longer used as phone

Been a while since i been in there section. looking for some suggestions..
I passed on my old desire to the kids to use as a gaming/music machine. I have no intentions of using it as a phone ever. So basically looking for a rock solid rom with wifi..
Solid GB would be fine or ICS if its solid...
I got use 4EXT if it matters.
Iv been using the official stock gingerbread.v1.2_gb.2.3.3.
It plays flawlessly and WiFi is always full. Only problem is some games it can't play, but on ics it plays them, so it kind of depends what games you want to play really. But this gb version is flawless

Official stock eh? Who would of thought? I lol

Use ginger villain or croniccorey rom and then switch to aeroplane mode. Switch on wifi and then use it only for gaming purposes. These 2 roms are best stable, battery efficient.
If my post helped u hit the like button.

[Q] ROM for htc one v?

Hello,
i have been using htc one v now but i am bored with it and plus it has become extremely slow, though i deleted lots of data and extra apps. still it is very laggy and takes a century to start any app. i was lately thinking to change to a custom rom, but ever since that thought occurred to me, i've been in the dilemma if choosing the right one. i searched the forums but couldnt satisfy myself. i want a rom that will be based on jelly bean and at the same time running full htc sense. how will i make it possible? may be someone over here could help me with that. i have least knowledge of roms and related stuff.
regards,
Abbas
Jelly bean in combination with sense isnt (yet) possible on the one v.

Like the above post, full sense is not yet available on current ROMs. And, I'm not sure that it will be considering most people install custom roms to get away from sense (like me).
If you want a custom rom still, I recommend the AOKP rom, with the CDMA version that I'm using, it's really stable and pretty fast and everything seems to work, even bluetooth. Still some graphics glitches, but those will get worked out.
I would recommend maxwen & Lloir's CM 10 ROM, it is smooth and dinamic. Before that Íve got the same issues as you.

New to Samsung

Greetings fellow S2 users. I hope I'm not too late to the party and that this phone still receives much love. I come from the OG Evo 4g side of the forums and after 2 years on sprint, I decided to high tail it to something moderately priced, more current hardware wise, and a plan that is more affordable.
And now with the release of the new OFFICIAL JB update from good 'ol Samsung, will there be any TW kernels or only AOSP? On the Evo, Sense was terrible and slow as all hell, but after playing with TW for a while I've actually become quite fond of the layout compared to AOSP. I will eventually make the switch to AOSP, but for now am LOVING the features of TW. The Music Square is nice for mood based music, I like that the video player plays pirated movies without the need for codecs/apps, WIFI calling is great and works flawlessly, and free visual voicemail without the need for Google Voice. And lets not forget free Hotspots.
Sad to see that Facial unlocking is now gone with the new JB update, and there are no music controls on lockscreen for default music app, but those are minor flaws. Would like to see S-Voice but IDK if it's a GSIII thing or not so not too bent out of shape.
So without much further ado, I am here to ask did I make a mistake picking the SGSII, and what I should know about ROM and Kernel wise compared to the OG Evo 4G. In other words, I assume that instead of Sense, it's now boiled down to TW (touchwiz) and AOSP based roms? Furthermore, is SBC still a thing; As in trickle charging? And are there any other news/tricks I should know about?
I would try out the PAC man ROM to be honest a lil bit of everything besides touchwiz i was a flashaholic but as soon as i started using PAC man ROM i havnt been able to find another ROM that suits me i love it and all the customizing options

In order of rom purity:
1. Try touchwiz either stock or ptmr3's new builds.
2. Cm10.1 official by team chopsticks
3. Aokp official by whitehawkx
4. Pac
5. Else
PTMR3 is currently working on a custom 4.1.2 tw kernel from source. so in a day or 3 we will have a jb tw kernel:good:
and if you want to try a great aosp rom jelly bam is where its at but you wont find it on xda its on goo.im under devs - jelly bam - tmobile galaxy s2. i recommend it with cerux kernel. also you can use roms from the skyrocket also so check out that thread too.
Its a great phone with a lot of development.

custom tw 4.1.2 kernel up in dev thread :highfive:
This is a great phone. I keep going back to Pacman Rom by Jaydubb in development or in general which is up to date by gs2usr. And a custom kernel btpy Emerson called cerux. Great combo

I played with it for a small time, but was saddened by the fact I couldn't get WIFI calling on anything but TWIZ.It's the main reason I went to TMO because I get poor reception in my house. Although while on the rom, I noticed I had more bars than I did on default JB Twiz rom.
Back when I had my EVO I remember people saying AOSP uses different parameters to measure signals compared to stock roms, is this still true?
This phone is one of the best I've ever had, loving every feature of it, currently running Embryo rom 6.11 with cymbaline 3.0.74 kernal, amazing speeds benching in high 11's, its twiz based since I personally hate asop lol, all around beast of a phone, you did good...
