ICS finally not for the DZ? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first of all, thank you all for your daily hard work on the DZ. I check it every day and it is wonderful what you do. I love my DZ and will stick with it for a longer time. :victory:
but sry guys, if I look at my perfectly working MIUI 2.3.7 and all this threads reg. ICS "tries" there is not one release without problems. I try every release but nothing is like the old OSs. I need it working perfectly for a professional daily use.
Slowly I think the DZ is so old that there is no chance of an ICS working like MIUI or CM7 or so on this phone or do you think there is any chance to get it working perfectly? it is possible to correct the driver problems without any emulation or "ways that it works somehow"?
one of your biggest fans, Felix

Hi, i don't think that HTC will provide an offical update to ICS for the old Vison. But i think that the devs will get the drivers in future ready for daily use. Stop waiting for a final release. The Vision was always an perfect balanced smartphone between speed and user friendly daily driver. I also testet some ICS versions but the best is a good old CM7. Nothing works so perfect. Did you missed anything for daily use? ICS is only a dev gimmic for those people who are bored of a perfect functionally smartphone. Enjoy your DZ and smile on people who whats always new version that are not testet and optimized like CM7.

absolutely right, I thought so, too. :good: it is ok and I love my phone, it is still great. but I love many features from ICS, unfortunately I have to buy a new one sometimes. I want to stick with a hardware keyboard and manufacturers slowly distance from this solution. Problems for daily use? e.g. the cam emulation is simply crappy, pic qual. is compared to the real hardware, the ICS OS emulation slows down after a while, music player apollo is crap in my opinion (CM9) and so much other stuff. but it's ok, I will possibly keep the DZ with working OS for professional use and buy a SG3 or so to play around with ICS.
Thanks for you reply and enjoy your device too!

I have also an One X, but nothing's like the best smartphone ever built --> the HTC DZ. At the and i gave my One X to my Wife and i'm still back to my old DZ. No other smartphone is so unbreakable like the DZ, i really dropped it often on the floor. I'll give you a tipp: use your DZ until it's broken and save your money for future smartphones, there's today nothing to buy like the DZ. The smartphone Coops are so busy with patents that they have no time to built new smartphones like the DZ ;-)

good to know! because sg3 would have been my first choice but I hold it once in my hands and the case is really cheap plastic...ur right, nothing is like the DZ, its fast, good case and I love my keyboard...hopefully the vendors will not drop the idea of a HW keyboard forever! thanks buddy!

i'll wait for a new robust smartphone with a hw keyboard.
I think it's the best opinion.

I'm using EliteMod ICS at the moment (before changing to ics i was using cm7) and it is running very smooth! I got no problem with it and everything is working! Camera, wifi etc.
Imho the DZ is still one of the best smartphones!
A few weeks ago I was thinking about buying a new smartphone but with ICS theres no sense of doing that!
I love it..again

Same with same symptoms. though I wouldn't say camera is "working" yes you can take pictures and videos, but it will force close if you use either Smiley Effect or Time Lapse, but least you'd already know what will close it.

I think CM9 RC1 runs pretty damn stable. My only gripes are occasional GPS hiccups and less battery life. Also you can't record video but I never really cared about that feature much since the camera sucks anyways.

Well I will buy htc one x very soon.

Apart from that, really awesome and great phone!
Tapatalked from my HOX
All the time:
1. Terrible battery life.
2. No camera button.
3. No replaceable battery /sd card.
4. HTC Sense is painfully slow and battery draining.
5. No USB Otg support.
6. Severe overheating.
8. Insane camera compression makes pictures unusable.
9. Insane video compression.
10. No multitasking.
11. 3 dot menu is stupid as hell.
12. Only capacitive android buttons.
13. The phone is very slippery.
14. HTC is far too obsessed with the phone being thin and as such compromises on several things.
That's all I could think of right now. Please note that some of these things can be fixed by rooting.

Overall its a good phone but:
A lot of people are facing hardware defects (this is just based on me seeing posts on the forums like the 200 page wifi issue thread, it could be a lot less)
It lags a lot when compared to my 2 year old galaxy s e.g. in the browser.
You have to unlock and root if you want to see its full potential.
It gets hot.
The screen is not very scratch resistant.
The speaker is poor.
The good points are:
Sense is nice to look at.
The screen is good.
Tegra optimised games are awesome.
A lot of internal storage.
I like the way beats audio sounds (ymmv).
The battery life is okay.
It feels good in hand.
It has a great camera.
Mate if your ready to unlock the device then you won't be disappointed simple as that.
No. I'm not disappointed.
HTC One X running Viper ROM and Faux kernel....

happy for now.. very happy indeed...going to see what the new nexus will be like and what specs that phone will have before i make the jump again...if it is nothing special will stick with my One X as i love it
Both happy and disappointed are relative terms. The follow on question naturally becomes "compared to what?" The phone's got flaws; some people above already pointed them out. But so does the SGS3 now that it's been out for a while. So you add up the good and bad for both the One X and SGS3 (they're natural competitors) and compare them against how you intend to use the phone. The One X is an instant fail for anyone looking for removable storage and/or a replaceable battery. In fact, someone that's not OK with that shouldn’t even be asking about buying a One X. As for the screen scratching, it appears GG2 is more susceptible to fine scratches than GG1 so both phones are affected equally. As for the 200+ page Wi-Fi thread, 100 pages are the same handful of people commenting on each other’s posts. The OP alone has racked up nearly 500 posts just in that thread. It's sort of become the village of the damned where everyone goes to complain about HTC, the One X, and HTC service and support. They asked me to leave because I was interjecting optimism.
Did some research and played with it before deciding which quadcore phone to buy and disappointed that it cannot change battery and does not have a sd card slot so finally bought the LG.
Never disappointed... with ARHD and faux kernel is all perfect. Battery life is excellent and everything is fast.
Now I'm trying the p6 release of the CM10. I have to say that JB si amazing.

Is it me or is the One V quite sluggish?

I've owned the Desire, Desire S and Incredible S, all with 1ghz Snapdragon processors but in my opinion the One V feels more sluggish than then all, I think it might be ICS and Sense 4.0 causing it. Am I imagining this?
Despite having the same CPU, the One V has significantly less RAM than the Desire S and Incredible S (512 vs 768), so that alone may explain it feeling slower. Spec-wise, the One V is superior to the original Desire.
It is cause of the self restarter apps....which eat up ur ram..383 ram is more than enough

My HTC One V was slowest phone which I ever used. After using Nexus One and Omnia W this felt like a truck moving slow. I then upgraded to MIUI 2.8.10 and been happier since them Couple of issues here and there but phone is much better than before.

I agree, Its the first smart phone that I've owned that I only use as a last resort, meaning I now use the laptop to post here, twitter, facebook etc etc, I only use the phone if out and about and have no other option as its just to frustrating to use. I only paid £120 for it so can't complain really but even my ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco was quicker and if I remember correctly it only had something like a 600Mhz processor, Sense 4.0 has killed this phone

[Q] The most usable ROM for One V?

I purchased one v last summer and my experience with the phone has been mostly frustration and grief. The original Sense ROM is sluggish and buggy, so I got rid of it as soon as I had rooted the phone. In fact I found it slower than my old Nexus One coupled with MIUI. It is shocking that two years old phone overperforms a relatively recent although budget handset .Anyhow, since rooting I've tried a bunch of different roms, but none of them are satisfactory. Sluggishness, showstopper bugs or ugly user interface. At this point I got tired of trying out different ROMs and reconfiguring the phone from scratch. I just want something that would work well enough.
I like MIUI a lot, but all the recent builds have been plagued by various bugs. As if each new build fixes some of the problems, while introducing a handful of new bugs. I am sure it will become better at some point, but I would like to have something decent now.
So my question goes, what ROM/Kernel combo do you find the most usable? Something that would just work and would not need to reinstall/tweak every week or so.
Cheers!

Well, I think the stock Rom is somehow the best, with the least bugs, cause it's come from the original company and with a lot of tests! I have used many Roms, I found "My One V RC4+" better, I didn't see any special bugs, however I am using stock currently!

Believe me I try all and kernel Kiss thx to maxwen with myONEv RC0.5 FX ROM thx to ckpv5 running smooth and fast with no battery drain!!!
If you wanna have smooth camera or video recording features, stable, no-bugs & still can run faster, you can go for myONEv RC5.0 FX from ckpv5. But if you don't really need camera & video recording for your daily activity, then you can go for CM10 from Lloir.
And last but not least, you can also flash latest Titanium-KISS kernel from maxwen. :good:
And for gaming which one is better?! I am using My One V with kiss kernel, its fast, but is there any other faster than it?

for better gaming experience, i guess it's almost the same because it depends on your GPU.
Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thread closed.

Advice please - am I wasting my time looking for a new ROM?

My Galaxy S3 has gone off for repair and I'm back using my Vision for a couple of weeks or so, after having abandoned it in a drawer months ago. To say the change is a bit of a shock would be the understatement of the year.
Is there any point in me trying to find a new ROM, or is what I'm running (ILWT-CM7-20120613) about as good as the performance is gonna get? I don't give a toss about features, all I want for the next two weeks is a phone that can do the basics as fast/smooth as possible.

Mimicry is based on CM9 and it performs almost on par with the CM7 rom.
the last update was in September and i haven't found a need to flash a different ROM since .
in my opinion, it's the best ROM for this device. i highly recommend it.

+1 but you could upgrade to ILWT CM7 634
Mimicry CM9 is best for the Vision\Desire Z
Have had this phone for years, still use it as main and performs beatifully with Mimicry ICS, tried going back to CM7 (when my phone had a bit of an issue) and tend to just found it lagged a lot more and didn't contain all the sweet features I've come to expect from 4.0+ devices, including the Apollo music player and Treb home launcher.
If I was you I'd recommend an upgrade to Mimicry ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187 ), just so that you can get the panorama camera back
Miui 2.11.30 ftw !
Im cursing myself for not having tried the ROM before !!
Its fabulous !!

Hey guys ! I belong to HTC explorer , Samsung galaxy s and desire hd forums and I'm planing to get this phone , so I want to know a few things bout it :
How's the stock rom ? I mean on my explorer its laggy and almost unbearable
How's the battery life with continues use of WiFi and a lot of texting and music , that's the only reson I buy a phone though
I didn't had much Time to check that dose HTC one v have sense 4.1 or sense 4 FULL ?
Dose it have 8-10 different types of lockscreens ? (Weather , friend stream , stock etc )
How's the over all smoothness ? Is it worth the money ?
Thanks ,

Is it with the money? That depends. My carrier has dropped the price continually down to $100CDN and then stopped carrying it.
It's a much better phone if you install a custom rom on it. There are other phones that are newer and will likely have a front camera for similar price.
But, saying that, I like mine (custom ROM) just fine
I just got htc one v and it's fine for me. But battery last just for one day in my case - wifi on and a lot of texting. But I like it - it's fine for me and I thkink worth it's money.

The Lockscreen is not customizable. It's not full sense. To get what you want, you would have to root it and install ckpv5's mysense 3.5 rom., which is good.
I mentioned the price because you didn't. If it's more than $100, I would say get another phone. HTC will never upgrade it. They have already said so.

I was expecting the ui to be smooth and fast but Nevermind I really like it's camera and metallic body and I hope stock Rom wouldn't be that bad cause on my explorer with 600 MHz CPU it runs sense 4 pretty good (lags for a while, but a reboot fixes that) and on my desire hd it have 1 GHz CPU and it runs sense for just like stock , full sense 4 . So if DHD can run full sense sooth as hell with 1 GHz CPU , I see no reson for HOV to lag on lite version of sense with the same CPU

You can get different lock screens. All kinds of them for this phone. There are also Full Sense 4/4.1 Roms. Not JB Sense yet though if thats what you meant. Its actually an ok phone. I mainly use mine for gps, music, camera and social. On a good sense ROM battery will be great. On AOSP it will vary and usually not be so good. Good AOSP Roms are best for gaming. The metal case really helps, and its buttoned up pretty good. Put mine through some abuse. Its holding up nice. The stock ROM on mine actually wasn't too bad. Just with stock ROM and a good kernel its usable. But the best results are from a custom rom. Lots of good ones. Still development going on.
All that being said I would actually recommend a One S for what your looking for.
The camera one the One V isn't great. Night shots suck, and at 5mp its pretty low. One S has a great camera and 1080p video.
Battery is pretty small (One S isn't much bigger though)
And the One S is more powerful and smoother.
I've had my One V for about 4 months. Always wished I got a better One S.
One V is a good beginner phone.

Yeah so if you want it, it's a nice small, solid feeling phone, one v is good for that. But, if I were you, I'd root it and put either bandit's beaver ROM on it off one of ckpv5's
Hey thanks to all , I guess I'll be in this forum soon enough about in a 2-3 week's , one s is generally out of my budget :/
