Ok , I know there is thread about debian running fine on desire z but the tutorial there is highly unfriendly and there are some other stuff you need to do to your desire z. This is my first guide. The reason for posting in dev thread is because chroot and loop requires specific kernel support to power Ubuntu.
Just to explain certain terms here...
Kernel - the interface for android to access hardware. Note that andorid is stripped down version of ubuntu and it does not have loopdevice support
Loopdevice - Imagine virtual disk mount program such as Daemon tools. This requires specifically supported kernels such
Following tutorial will void your warrenty (root and s off) but you can change to warrenty friendly state of course XD Check out xda wiki for more info( study to know what you are doing there.)
There are plenty of guides to get su and busybox( allows android system to be able to utilise more advanced commands) so check out comprehensive guides for g2 and desirez in this wiki below is my version
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your phone is stock, do a lot of research before doing root and s off. cyanogenmod has good guide on wiki for you to s off and get permanet root. Just for you to know, s off is to disable security for us to flash new kernel with loopback support and root is well... needed for most of hacks in XDA XD
*note for noobs: this is tested with desire z but G2 should not have problems. just be careful of which device's gfree you are using to s off.
ENGINEERING HBOOT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOU TO DO SO AS IT MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS FLASHING CUSTOM ROM/KERNEL WITHOUT IT (guides are confusing if custom roms require flashing hboot)
Preparation:
1. busybox (install titanium backup and under problems? you can install busybox in a easy way)
2. Recommended: Clockwork recovery(rom manager in market)
3.Root and S off
4.Optional : remove or move sd card installed apps to internal memory or else LOOPDEVICE may be occupied and you may not be able to mount ubuntu. Do this if you encounter error (caused by app2 sd) please note that recent builds in xda mount loop device as 255 to avoid this problem.
You might want to use adb if necessary
5. android terminal from market
6. 2gb free space in sdcard (certain builds use 4gb as storage image, which is limit for fat32 system)
---------Kernel preparation ---------------------------------
Flashing necessary kernel
1. Download suitable kernel with loop device support. I am using cyanogen -> virtuous-kernel-cyanogen kernel from ://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/kernels/
(add http infront) on Stock HTC Sense Rom
2. To flash this, from rom manager, boot into clockworkmod recovery and select zip file to flash. Nandroid backup is recommended beforehand
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Now your phone has loopback support to chroot into UBUNTU or DEBIAN
Well, this method is not native ubuntu but it works fine.
You can now follow any guide on XDA like G1,nexus 1etc on running linux in android. I recommend nexus 1 hacks .com for ubuntu setup or thread "Debian for Desire" for debian setup (note debian seems to have problem with vnc) there are a lot of newbie frendly guides to do this without partitioning your sd card.
What can you do with them? You can use full android terminal , use vim , open office, gcc or eclipse etc ... makes your HTC Vision true small computer with keyboard . Enjoy
Possible solution to errors you encounter while following chroot tutorial for other android devices:
-----------------trouble shoot--------------------------------
Errors:
/device/loop is busy etc.... chroot: cannot execute /bin/bash etc... shutting down ubnutu etc....
Solution: 1. Get loopback support by flashing above kernel i mentioned
if not 2. TYPE SU BEFORE YOU RUN BOOTSCRIPT ON ANDROID TERMINAL
or if they say the bootscript is not found then type sh ./*your boot script name*
if not 3. move sd apps to phone as i mentioned eariler
Other errors could be from not installing busybox.
Note that in some cases, busybox is included inside the custom rom so you dont need to install it.
Post names of kernels with ability to run ubuntu for others to know.I did not test all of them.
This is my first guide on xda and i hope this helped xda in constructive way...
Post script: I will try my best to maintain quality of the posts to be up to xda standard. Thank you for constructive feedbacks...
quick problem i noticed
I'm running post ota de-odexed and I installed virtuous-kernel_vision_advanced-v1.0.9.zip in attempts to get loopdevice but now my phone doesn't react to an touch... hahaha it's no biggie I can't fix, just wanted to state out a weird outcome I have never seen before
But hey! Your prep guide is much appreciated!
EDIT: All of the 1.0.9 kernels seem to break my touch :/
you need virtuous-cyanogen 1.3 not standard vituous kennel. it is under cyanogen. Since it is developed for cyanogen, it should be fine for wide range of roms including sense roms but yes, it is buggy. I am looking for better kennel now....

*facepalms* yes i know that. i will be installing it along side android and using vnc to access it locally. its a method i wish to use but i need the kernel for installing ubuntu and want to know which one. i shoulda made it more clear really.
ive just tried flashing the latest kernel for cyanogen with 7.1 but it freezes at the HTC screen on boot. any assistance will be apreciated
Ok guys, so I absolutely love Hulu and other legit TV sites, some of which prohibit mobile devices based on a "flash id" similar to what you have with a User Agent string for the browser. It is based on this ID that it prohibits mobile phones from accessing content such as hulu and HBO (I think?). With this mod your phone will appear as though it is a PC running flash and I believe it also modifies your version number to be something like 99.9.999.99 for sites that try and check the version number. I also must make sure to give credit where credit is due. Credit goes to imneveral0ne who posted the modified lib files in the Thunderbolt forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post12433036.
His mod stopped working because Gingerbread (and 10.3) copies the lib files from the APK itself back into the lib folder (/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/) on boot, thus require the mod be redone every reboot. I simply took his mod, wrote a simple script that installs the hacked lib files to /data/flash/ at first for storage, modifies permission of /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ so that it can be written to by the script, and also installs a "run on boot" script at /system/etc/init.d/01-fixflash.sh which will copy the hacked lib files from /data/flash to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/. It also adds Hulu Bookmark app (1.0) to /data/app.
REQUIREMENTS:
Kernel with init.d support (most custom kernels with root support) and root
Busybox (for running the copy commands. If you don’t have it, install ‘busybox installer’ from the market once you are rooted)
Root explorer (recommended, not required)
NOTE: I have developed this file FOR gingerbread.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Install latest flash player (11.1.115.12) from the market FIRST and be sure to uncheck automatic updates (and don't manually either)
Make sure busybox is installed. One way to test this is to type cp –help in ADB and see if it can run the command. If it does, you’re good to go.
Next, simply flash the zip. Wipe cache/dalvik if you want (I don't believe it's necessary, although again, this is my first time and for whatever reason the script doesn't seem to want to run on its own the first time)
Upon first reboot, you MAY be lucky enough that it simply just works and you’re all set.If you still get the “Hulu not available for your platform” error, simply use either root explorer or adb to run the script for the first time manually. In root explorer, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, tap on S98fixflash and select “execute”. In ADB, navigate to /system/etc/init.d and type ‘sh S98fixflash’. Wait a sec for it to run, then try Hulu again. It should be working immediately (without a reboot required) AND the script should then run correctly on subsequent reboots.
Like I said this is my first "product" I've been able to make available to the community and am more than open to suggestions, criticisms and ideas of how I can make this script better. Enjoy guys!
EDIT: If you do have issues with the script not running on every reboot, simply install "Script Manager" from the market, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, select S98fixflash and check the "run on boot" checkbox.
NOTE: ICS Only version now (least as far as I know). May work on others, please let me and others know if it does work on GB
File is now attached to post due to multiupload being unavailable -
UPDATE 6/26/2012 for 11.1.115.12
Note: after more feedback it seems using busybox installer from the market helps if running the script, even manually does nothing.
ahh too much to do
cba
Sorry, lots of explaining. If your rooted just update flash to latest in market, uncheck auto update adobe flash, then flash the zip. Should just work like it did on my gsII.

I was going thru your update-script. What does this line do?
Code:
set_perm(0, 2000, 0755, "/system/etc/init.d/01-fixflash.sh");
I did not find a 01-fixflash.sh in /system/etc/init.d folder, only S98fixflash?

update 9/5/2011 for 10.3.186.6 AND hopefully fixed data mounting issues on certain devices so it works easily on CWM on more devices
NOTE: Latest update includes a brand new flashplayer.so files freshly edited, so no more issues with youtube in the browser, and uses TRUE flash 10.3.186.6 libraries for increased performance (no longer based on 10.2)
does nothing no matter what on kh3 deodexed
I'm using it now on litening 6.1 (kh3) just fine with nymphetamine kernel. This thread is also in the epic 4g forums. Troubleshooting instructions are there a well as the op. Understand what the mod does by reading, then find out where its getting hung up. I guarantee if you read you'll find your problem. Sorry but I keep having to help people read my own posts... First guesses, reflash, check to see files were installed, run busybox installer,.try another kernel with working init.d support... Run script manually?
Nice work. Any way of getting this to work for HC on the Xoom?
Maybe, try it let me know. Our buy me a 10.1

LOL! Nah didn't work for me.
Actually I feel I remember it working fire xoom.maybe try the manual troubleshooting in the op. find and replace libflashplayer.so with what's in the zip
it won't let me even flash the file says:
E: Error in /sdcard/gb_hack_flash_hulu10.3.186.6.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
all you need to do to get it to work is to extract the libflashplayer.so from the zip the op posted and copy it to (and replace) the libflashplayer.so in
Code:
/data/flash/libflashplayer.so
and
Code:
/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libplayerflash.so
do this using root explorer
this also enables crackle as well
there is no need to run a script
Beautiful, tried so many things in the past, and this works beautifully! Thanks!
Um, at the risk of sounding like a complete euro-dummy: What is Hulu, what does this hack do? Perhaps a bit of description in the first post?

Hi all,
I own no credits to this mod/script, it's all put together by zeppelinrox, Thanks go out to him for this! Orginal thread can be found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
This is the first post of this kind I have ever made, so it might not be that good, or any help at all, but for those who want to try this script for the first time, I shall try my very best to explain how to do so.
I had been running ROMS for my Nexus with the V6 SuperCharger built in, and decided to see if it'll run well on our humble little Tabs. And indeed it does, it could be a placebo of course, but I seem to notice a good difference.
First, there are a few requirements in order to use this script :-
You NEED to be Rooted, in order to do this (if you aren't already) you could try the excellent Quick and Easy Root Script by the genius Crossix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472521
Download and Install Script Manager from the Market
https://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
You also need to have BusyBox installed for the script to be run, I suggest installing the Script attached to the above V6 SuperCharger thread (even if you already have BusyBox installed to avoid errors). Simply scroll to the bottom of the thread and download the file named "busybox_v1.19.3_installer_script_wraithdu.zip"
To install this version of BusyBox navigate to where you saved the ZIP file, if on the Tab it should have downloaded to "/mnt/sdcard/Download", extract it using your file manager, I use ES File Explorer. Then open Script Manager and navigate to the extracted folder, find the script that should be called "busybox_v1.19.3_installer_wraithdu.sh", open this and select the "su" icon, make sure it is selected as a script and not executable.
To Run the Script:-
Scroll to the bottom of the SuperCharger thread and Download the file named " V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh.txt" Navigate to where this file is downloaded, if on the Tab it should have downloaded to "/mnt/sdcard/Download", rename it using your favourite file manager, usually via a long-press to "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh"
Then open Script Manager and navigate to the script, open it using script manager, again taking care to run it as "su" as a script not an executable. The script should Run and prompt you for an option numbered 1-17. I chose Option 2, which is Aggressive Level 2 and noticed a good improvement, you can of course opt for the balanced options of 3 or 4. To input a number touch the screen and the on screen keyboard should pop up, hit a number and enter it.
The Script Should run and then prompt you for another option, don't choose another one just yet.
If you are running the excellent build.prop by Crossix, Icewyng et al, it is recommended to disable the device keeping Launcher in memory for the script to run properly. To do this, open Root Explorer, navigate to the build.prop, in "/system", and open it in the text editor. Scroll to the part of the prop file that begins "store launcher in memory" and change the below string to "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0"
In order for this to be a persistent change to how RAM is managed on our Tabs, a script has to be set up to be run at boot. To do this, in Script Manager, navigate to "/data" and open the script named "99SuperCharger.sh", and check the boxes of "su" along with "boot" to run it at boot.
After you have followed these steps reboot your Tab and you *should* see a snappier Tab
Please be aware that this is the very first HOW TO I have ever written, and it will probably be inaccurate and crap. So, please, feel free to correct my errors and I will try to help running the script.
Yours,
Toyface
Awesome scripts. Im going to give it a try here in a bit and see if there is a difference in performance.
Could someone confirm if this really works?
I just did this and have notices an improvement but do follow instructions carefully

Frankly the whole you cant modify his script deal is a HUGE turn off. I understand him wanting credit for his hard work, BUT wth. I'll stick to safer things.
EDIT: Forget what I said I completely miss understood what he says in his post. He says
"Personal Use: You may tweak the V6 installation script (leaving credits intact) to your own personal liking as long as it is NOT redistributed in any way."
His autostart script script looks very handy. I was considering trying Gscript already here is a new reason hehe.

I can see why he doesn't want redistributables floating around, even with the open source (something I feel very strongly about) nature of the forum.

You can also auto start scripts without having to use script manager or any other scripting program by calling them from within install-recovery.sh (see my sdswap mod).
For example if you had a script /data/app/supercharger.sh
in install_recovery.sh you'd add a line sh /data/app/supercharger.sh

Cool. I have re-written another version of my hulu script in .sh and set it up to be able to run in a normal verbose mode, or to accept "silent" as a command line argument to redirect output to a lhulu.log file instead to better allow for the option of running at startup like a cron entry or what ever our allowed methods are on android.(like the one you just referenced, thanks) I'm planning on playing with it a little to figure out the best and easiest method. Then repost the updated version that can be a semi permanent fix.

install-recovery.sh won't work for the hulu lib, sometime after that script is loaded all the apks libs get extracted for whatever reason. Unless you put a wait in there for the prop sys.boot_complete or something like that. Might also need to use busybox run-parts for a seperate init.d script, not sure if the wait would actually stop the rest of the boot process.
It should be fine, install_recovery is called really late in the boot process you're right about putting the waits in, if you look at my swapscript you'll see the amount of time I used to get it to work (and it does not pause the other processes).

It's not as late as I previously thought myself. dmesg won't work at that point and getting a logcat from there you'll see it's the start of the system log just when vold starts up. Which is why you need a few sleeps in your script. Using it was my second attempt at 2nd-init, which wasn't possible until after my first bootloop, the boot animation starts later but also before the libs are replaced.
For hulu I've just been running a gscript after a reboot because of this, at least until I find a different solution.
Anyway install-recovery is the perfect spot for any kind of kernel tweaks and also SuperCharger.

Okay everyone! Here is a tutorial on how to get Aircrack tools working with your Android TF300T! This gets your Alpha Card working with all the drivers in android so you can use it in Backtrack!
CREDITS: I do not take credit for the drivers I simply put all the information together.
Requirements :
Rooted Device
4 GB Free Space
USB Port or for a Phone an Adapter that can provide power like a HUB
An Alpha awus036h wifi adapter
Android 4.0 or higher that supports USB Host Mode
A brain!! :yeye:
Required Downloads:
Backtrack 5 installer APP - IN Files.zip
RootFileExplorer - IN Files.zip
Required Drivers
Terminal App - IN Files.zip
Android VNC - IN Fiiles.zip
Modules App - IN Files.zip
Required Files.zip - https://www.asuswebstorage.com/navigate/share/GY4I6766V4
First install all apps.
Follow the guide in Backtrack 5 installer APP to set up your BT5 install.
Next boot up backtrack and compile and install Aircrack!
In a backtrack terminal issue the following commands to install Aircrack:
http://pastebin.com/tPM8Qshp
Once complete stay in the terminal and get wicd manager
apt-get install wicd
Now that is done download the Alpha drivers and extract them to your system
/lib/modules folder.
Drivers: https://www.asuswebstorage.com/navigate/share/GY4JP966V4
Next TURN OFF YOUR WIFI
The drivers conflict with the internal wifi. You need to reboot to gain your normal wifi again!
Open the Modules app and open the system tab and select the 3 drives your extracted and save them!
eeprom_93cx6.ko, mac80211.ko, rtl8187.ko
Make sure to go to the settings in the Modules App and un-check load at boot!
Now connect your Alpha Wifi card and open up your backtrack terminal and type:
/etc/init.d/dbus start; /etc/init.d/wicd start
Then Type
ifconfig wlan0 up
Put your card in monitor mode: airmon-ng start wlan0
Thats it!

Its really straight forward. Just follow the onscreen instructions as best as possible. Make sure you downloaded the script during the instructions. Also make sure the files are all extracted to a folder on your sdcard named backtrack

I apologize if this is obvious and you have already done this, but, Try Typing: su (Enter) at the start of your terminal session to enter superuser mode.
Okay, gonna try asap.
Thanks. I'm wait more positive results for insert it on the index

It is a command line tool which lets you *cough* *cough* test the security of your own or other people's networks. Basically if aircrack is able to discover the password on your network in a relatively short amount of time (a couple of hours) you or whoever's network it is needs to boost their security.

sorry. supersu? what's that? anyway to the others, yes my first terminal command is su.
You need busy box and it won't work without an external wireless card.

That is correct. I will add busybox to the list of requirements. I forgot to add that one.
can you do this with a different wireless card?

You should be able to use this method to install drivers from other wireless cards... HOWEVER, you need to go to backtrack's website (google it), and check the wiki to make sure your wireless card is capable of "injection"

I'm pretty sure mine is. Has the following chipset, discovered when I use a pc with backtrack: ASUSTek Computer, Inc. RT2573 - using the mac80211 rt2500usb/rt73usb drivers
Its one of the ones listed. Don't I need to compile the .ko modules for ARM? If so, how do I do this and where do I find them?
I installed debian squeeze lately with debian kit.
However, I have a 2GB sdcard, and it uses it for storage, and I ran out of space, and decided to delete some files that I don't need. So, I deleted debian.img as it was over 500M, but now I can't uninstall it.
Whenever I run
Code:
deb u
or similar to uninstall debian on my device, it gives me the following error:
Code:
/storage/sdcard0/debian.img not found. You may re-insert your SD-Card and/or unplug USB
What could I do, as if I try to reinstall it, it says
Code:
You currently have a Debian file system mounted. Start 'deb u' to unmount first.
and
Code:
deb u
gives
Code:
/storage/sdcard0/debian.img not found. You may re-insert your SD-Card and/or unplug USB
Hey know exactly what ya are going though.
First off if the debian.img has been deleted, then deb u isn't going to help as its trying to unmount something that is gone.
Instead reboot your device and either rerun the install with the
/sdcard/download/debian-kit*
or run
/data/local/deb/uninstall
to uninstall the package from the devices' internal memory and start from scratch
or run
/data/local/deb/mk-debian -h
from where you are currently to make a brand new img on your sdcard.
Mainly read the readme that came with debian kit or wait a few days as I'm currently writing a guide that should clear up most of the issues that I've seen.

Good and welcome
I've stayed busy making new content and scripts for adding more features, link update in signature sums it up, if you've got any requests feel free to post them. I've a few things to wrap up and some new projects to start/finish; Android to Android rooting, Android to Android 3g/4g communications, cloud services, and adaptive 3D sound playback.
