[Q] SU not working

I am just about to release my new barebones build with a lot of new features but one thing is killing me. I cannot get superuser to work anymore with the latest build and the latest kernel. Rogue tools won't overclock without SU working and that just totall kills the speed of my build =(. The build is based off scoot's release 5 and I am using the latest kernel with and without the module update SU is unaffected. Everything else works though.

What have you changed from the build i sent you that might effect it? Does it work for you with the original build? Things to check are the sysinit.rc, make sure it calls userinit.sh on startup, and also check your userinit.sh in the /bin directory and make sure the su fix is still present in the file Otherwise, try opening the super user app and downloading the latest su binary file, if it fails to install then you most likely have partition permission issues.

I did edit userinit to enable the odex script. I am gonna check that now.

Ok I am pretty sure that was it. how do I add this line to userinit to have it be proper then? /system/bin/odex.sh

You'd need to put it in sysinit.rc like this :
service odex /system/bin/odex.sh

So put that line right at the end then? Or is there a special format it has to go in. Sorry, I have just never had to edit this particular file before lol.

At the end is fine, you will see some similar lines in there, you may want to add some options such as :
console
user root
oneshot
I don't know what the structure of the odex script is so i don't know which options you will need to get it to run properly but these are the most likely, just experiment and see

I've always put it at the end, after the su fix just as "/system/bin/odex.sh" and nothing else. What does service do? will it run it continuously or just with different permissions?
I would say its more likely that something's gone wrong while you edited userinit.sh, and now it can't be executed.
did you edit it in windows? you may have /n/r line endings now instead of /n
if you did it in linux it may be a permissions problem

fixed! I used the userinit from my old barebones. Something changed in the update. The two looked totally different.

I know how to install .zip but I have a question. CWM3.1 does not flash some .zip like a baseband or a theme. It says "aborted". I think that the problem is that the file is not signed or something. In CWM2.5.1.8 works but the problem is that CM7 or MIUI changes it to CWM3. So, what should I do?

Works fine, even the mentioned zip-file!

The "issue" is that the latest CWM3.x no longer support "amend scripting" (stored in update-script) and won't apply zip's created with such scripts. Therefore all .zip which where written using the old method should be converted to edify scripting (which use different statements - more details here-).

You can replace the recovery file from /system/bootmenu/recovery/sbin with the one from 2nd init 1.4.2 . The file persimmon should be rwxr-xr-x (755).

and how do i do that? with rootexplorer? what for do i need the file permission? to change it or to set it after changing the files?

Yup. You can replace it using an app like root explorer. And the file permission should be set up after you copy the file (if you have the wrong file permission it won't work).
EDIT: I haven't tried yet to downgrade it this way but that's what I've read on the forum, therefore I cannot guarantee you it will work.

sry for me being a noob. i found the file named recovery in the folder you mentioned. but have got only the file 2ndinit.apk..... where do i get the recovery file from 2ndinit.apk ?

You can unpack it using a tool like Apk Manager 4.9 or simply by using 7zip to extract the files from the apk which is in fact some sort of archive. However as I've mentioned in the previous post I didn't tried to downgrade using this method. All I can say is that I've read here on xda about this method, therefore I cannot guarantee you this will work. I think is better to wait someone with more experience to answer.

As an unexperienced user i think i'll wait for a better solution.
As i read, this problem appears quite often, how come that nobody tried to make a solution for this problem?

[MOD] Hulu Hack 10.3/GB

Ok guys, so I absolutely love Hulu and other legit TV sites, some of which prohibit mobile devices based on a "flash id" similar to what you have with a User Agent string for the browser. It is based on this ID that it prohibits mobile phones from accessing content such as hulu and HBO (I think?). With this mod your phone will appear as though it is a PC running flash and I believe it also modifies your version number to be something like 99.9.999.99 for sites that try and check the version number. I also must make sure to give credit where credit is due. Credit goes to imneveral0ne who posted the modified lib files in the Thunderbolt forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12433036#post12433036.
His mod stopped working because Gingerbread (and 10.3) copies the lib files from the APK itself back into the lib folder (/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/) on boot, thus require the mod be redone every reboot. I simply took his mod, wrote a simple script that installs the hacked lib files to /data/flash/ at first for storage, modifies permission of /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ so that it can be written to by the script, and also installs a "run on boot" script at /system/etc/init.d/01-fixflash.sh which will copy the hacked lib files from /data/flash to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/. It also adds Hulu Bookmark app (1.0) to /data/app.
For whatever reason, I've been having trouble replicating a "start from stock, flash, and you're good" situation. Something about my setup isn't quite perfect yet (this is my first "mod"/script, and first flashable zip so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated), as I've had some issues getting it to run on its own the first time. That being said my launcher pro also force closes on every reboot so the leaked EF02 and nagging (ef10 to ef02) downgrade screen may be responsible. The GOOD news is that it does seem to work like clockwork once the script has been run manually for the first time. Enough explaining why, now to the how:
REQUIREMENTS:
Kernel with init.d support (most custom kernels with root support) and root
Busybox (for running the copy commands. If you don’t have it, install ‘busybox installer’ from the market once you are rooted)
Root explorer (recommended, not required)
NOTE: I have developed this file FOR gingerbread, however I BELIEVE it should also work on froyo. Please let me know if it does/doesn’t work on Froyo. If it doesn’t work and needs troubleshooting let me know and I’ll downgrade again to see if I can get it worked out.
INSTRUCTIONS:
EDIT: I'm such a moron, I almost forgot:
Install latest flash player (10.3.185.25) from the market FIRST and be sure to uncheck automatic updates (and don't manually either)
Make sure busybox is installed. One way to test this is to type cp –help in ADB and see if it can run the command. If it does, you’re good to go.
Next, simply flash gbflash.zip. Wipe cache/dalvik if you want (I don’t believe it’s necessary, although again, this is my first time and for whatever reason the script doesn’t seem to want to run on its own the first time)
Upon first reboot, you MAY be lucky enough that it simply just works and you’re all set. I was not this lucky, either due to my semi-lockup (FC of launcher pro) on boot and/or the EF10->EF02 downgrade screen. Anyways, if you still get the "Hulu not available for your platform" error, simply use either root explorer or adb to run the script for the first time manually. In root explorer, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, tap on S98fixflash and select "execute". In ADB, navigate to /system/etc/init.d and type "sh S98fixflash". Wait a sec for it to run, then try Hulu again. It should be working immediately (without a reboot required) AND the script should then run correctly on subsequent reboots.
Like I said this is my first "product" I've been able to make available to the community and am more than open to suggestions, criticisms and ideas of how I can make this script better. Enjoy guys!
EDIT: If you do have issues with the script not running on every reboot, simply install "Script Manager" from the market, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, select S98fixflash and check the "run on boot" checkbox.
NOTE: I believe this hack is EXCLUSIVE to Gingerbread (and maybe Honeycomb). Froyo will not work

Wait I'm a little confused...are you saying that your launcher pro FCs and EF10 downgrade are indepenent of this, or is this script causing those problems?
As of right now, Launcher Pro has never FCed on me on EF02, and the downgrade prompt never pops up (it used to but it stopped for some reason).
Jus trying to get all the info before I flash this.
Btw, I assume that simply deleting the .sh file would uninstall this mod, thereby preventing anything from being done at boot? If not, what would be the proper way to uninstall this?

You are correct on uninstall procedure. Delete 01-fixflash.sh from /system/etc/init.d. It also places a 'flash' folder in /data that can be deleted. It also modifies permissions for /data/data/com.adobe.com/libs to make it writable (shouldn't cause any issues if left) but can be undone by uninstalling and reinstalling flash. Yes my launcher pro fcs because of the ef10->ef02 downgrade question (I think). Hope to check again on official release. Please let me know if this a) works b) doesn't or c) (like me) mostly works on most reboots, but script aways work when run by hand.
Another option is to install script manager because you can then tell script manager to run 01-fixflash.sh on boot, and then it should DEFINATELY work, although I know most people prefer not to install additonl appliations...
EDIT: I believe my launcher pro FCs INDEPENDENT of this script (ie it happens whether or not the script is installed) Also, Launcher Pro works, just FCs once on boot, then works like a charm the rest of the time

The flashable zip did not work. It flashed but did not successfully write anything usable to phone. However, the apk on the original posting worked great!

Yes, the APK I pulled from should work UNTIL you upgrade to gingerbread (correct me if I'm wrong). Did you happen to try the script manager trick? Sometimes the script won't run on boot on its own (particularly if you have a stock kernetl). This will probably be of more use to GB users who really require the boot script.

Ran the script, but the file is not in the init.d directory.....

There will only be 1 file in /system/etc/init.d, 01-fixflash.sh. It copies files from /data/flash to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/. When you execute it, then visit Hulu In dolphin, set to desktop it still doesn't work?
Are you saying the 01-fixflash.sh doesn't exist? Or that's the only file you see in there. Also note you must install flash from the market first. It should Always work when being run by hand. How about running the script, choosing execute, then the hulu app? Sorry, trying to figure out what the issue is.

Same as your setup, can't get it to work, still getting unsupported device message on hulu.com. The apk won't work for me either since it wants to find com.adobe.flash (or whatever it's called), and the one that exists on my phone has number "1" attached at the end. And I do have the latest flash, I just installed it for this very reason.
One question though, the stock browser doesn't seem to have an option to turn off mobile view?
EDIT: one difference I just noticed is that I'm deodexed, not odexed. I wouldn't think that would matter though...

You could change the script if you can't find that file. So your libflashplayer.so file is located where, /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer-1/lib ? Also are you on ef02 or ec05? Have you tried running the script via adb to see what errors it gives? You may need to run busybox installer from market to make sure the cp (copy) command itself works.
Edit: Also, I know there's an apk with -1 at the end, this is different. Its a folder with lib files in it. I may need to downgrade back to froyo to dbl check but I believe they're in the same place. Deodexed should't make any difference I don't think... thanks for hangin in there, I'd love to get this figured out so others can actually benefit from my aggrivation with it lol

Double check /data/flash/ exists and has 4 files. Make sure you have installed flash 10.3.185.25 from market and uncheck auto updates. Install busy box installer, and run to install IF and only if it still isn't working at that point.

After running this I have a Lego looking block with a ? in it like flash is not installed. Verified in my browser with other flash sites that this is the same. Any Idea as whats going on?

Never mind, it was because i use titanium backup to integrate system app updates into ROM, this saves space...
I had to restore an old backup of.24 then do the market update (did not integrate this time) booted into CWM and flashed worked great.
My only issue now is when i do fullscreen from hulu app its off center, half screen is just white (left) and part of the video is on the right?
Anyway to fix this or maybe an app update?

Its basically just a browser, tap and drag or pinch and zoom. Also, install Dolphin HD, set it to desktop user agent and tap full screen button as on a desktop.
Gone on vacation for two weeks*

I got this working on AA i3 with script manager.
It Does not make Hulu Plus app work.
It does play nicely in default web browser if you change the user agent to desktop. The full screen button works properly as well.

[MOD] Quick & Easy Root Script - HC

This should work for any and all a100 Honeycomb builds, you'll need to install an app from the market called terminal emulator. Also, you'll need a file manager like Astro to unzip the file.
This mod should root your tab in a matter of seconds after the script file is launched. I've tested this on my tab from a clean build and it works like a champ.
Here we go!
- Install the following apps from the market:
Terminal Emulator

Astro File Manager
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.metago.astro&hl=en
- Download the attached file from this post.
- Extract and put both the root.sh and su in /mnt/sdcard from the root.zip file.
(Using Astro, find the root.zip file it might be in /mnt/sdcard/Downloads or could be else where if your not using the website to view XDA. Copy it from where ever it's at and paste it in /mnt/sdcard. Press your finger on the zip file and tap Extract when the menu pops up. Tap "Extract to This Directory".)
- Next, open terminal emulator and copy / paste the following:
sh /mnt/sdcard/root.sh
Text will fly by, the script will automatically copy the su binary and install it to the proper location.
Once the script finishes running, be sure to install superuser from the market:
Very Important, if you skip this you won't be "officially rooted yet"!!!

Open the superuser app once it's installed, click on the wrench in the upper right corner, scroll to the bottom and find "Su binary v... Tap to check for updates" and tap that link. It should bring you to an update screen, click the button at the bottom to update!
Once you have done the above, then install busybox, Titanium, etc.. if needed.

ok terminal manager is out, I didn't realize that doing a hard reset wouldn't wipe the /system/xbin directory completely so technically busybox tools were still installed and sh wouldn't normally be there. I'll see if there's another way..

this method work for any build? and if so, is there any problem during the process that could "kill" my a100 or it's safe?

This method should, yes and it's safe.. It's actually more safe (if that's possible) than the method origionally posted in the dev section since there really isn't any room for user error.

Thank you so much for this! It was so easy. Though the only problem I had was with the terminal emulator, no fualt of the Dev, but it might help someone. When I was trying to write in the line of code I kept getting errors because I couldnt get the keyboard to write lower case. So copy and paste if your a noon like me to get it through the terminal.

Well, I dont know what the hell is up with my tab, but Even this didnt work. It showed the file was there, but after I tried installing SU, it didnt get root, so I went back in to verify the file was still there, and nope. It disappeared. I have no idea how, unless somehow mine device is checking the directories, which is the only thing I can think of...

You sure you don´t have an a101? what build number are you running?

I have no idea then.. the only thing I could say is to try and restore from a "Full" rom, like Acer_A100_1.014.08_COM_GEN1 and try to root it before doing anything else. It wouldn't hurt to try anyway and the worst that could happen is that you'd have to restore all your apps and stuff. If we can ever get this thing to run cwm and a different kernel, you'll definitely be needing root.

Did you check the boxes for USB Debugging and Unknown sources just in case?? (in Settings > development)

I checked them both. Root Checker shows I have root, but other apps cant get root access, and SuperUser cant update because of this issue... I dont know what the hell to do because this has me stuck atm... Im gonna flash back to 1.018 and see if that helps, probably not, but it wont hurt to check.

I reverted back and got root. It seems to be the newest update that stopped it. Im updating back up again to see if I retain root. What a pain...

Yep, Im rooted now. It unrooted me when updating, ran the script you provided and its working now. Dont know why it didnt take before reverting back, but works wonderfully now. Now that Im rooted, let me know what I can do and peek around at to help out here.

[HOW TO][MOD] V6 SuperCharger Script

Hi all,
I own no credits to this mod/script, it's all put together by zeppelinrox, Thanks go out to him for this! Orginal thread can be found here.

This is the first post of this kind I have ever made, so it might not be that good, or any help at all, but for those who want to try this script for the first time, I shall try my very best to explain how to do so.
I had been running ROMS for my Nexus with the V6 SuperCharger built in, and decided to see if it'll run well on our humble little Tabs. And indeed it does, it could be a placebo of course, but I seem to notice a good difference.
First, there are a few requirements in order to use this script :-
You NEED to be Rooted, in order to do this (if you aren't already) you could try the excellent Quick and Easy Root Script by the genius Crossix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472521
Download and Install Script Manager from the Market
https://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
You also need to have BusyBox installed for the script to be run, I suggest installing the Script attached to the above V6 SuperCharger thread (even if you already have BusyBox installed to avoid errors). Simply scroll to the bottom of the thread and download the file named "busybox_v1.19.3_installer_script_wraithdu.zip"
To install this version of BusyBox navigate to where you saved the ZIP file, if on the Tab it should have downloaded to "/mnt/sdcard/Download", extract it using your file manager, I use ES File Explorer. Then open Script Manager and navigate to the extracted folder, find the script that should be called "busybox_v1.19.3_installer_wraithdu.sh", open this and select the "su" icon, make sure it is selected as a script and not executable.
To Run the Script:-
Scroll to the bottom of the SuperCharger thread and Download the file named " V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh.txt" Navigate to where this file is downloaded, if on the Tab it should have downloaded to "/mnt/sdcard/Download", rename it using your favourite file manager, usually via a long-press to "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh"
Then open Script Manager and navigate to the script, open it using script manager, again taking care to run it as "su" as a script not an executable. The script should Run and prompt you for an option numbered 1-17. I chose Option 2, which is Aggressive Level 2 and noticed a good improvement, you can of course opt for the balanced options of 3 or 4. To input a number touch the screen and the on screen keyboard should pop up, hit a number and enter it.
The Script Should run and then prompt you for another option, don't choose another one just yet.
If you are running the excellent build.prop by Crossix, Icewyng et al, it is recommended to disable the device keeping Launcher in memory for the script to run properly. To do this, open Root Explorer, navigate to the build.prop, in "/system", and open it in the text editor. Scroll to the part of the prop file that begins "store launcher in memory" and change the below string to "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0"
In order for this to be a persistent change to how RAM is managed on our Tabs, a script has to be set up to be run at boot. To do this, in Script Manager, navigate to "/data" and open the script named "99SuperCharger.sh", and check the boxes of "su" along with "boot" to run it at boot.
After you have followed these steps reboot your Tab and you *should* see a snappier Tab

Which browser are you using? If chrome on the PC, try a right click and save as a txt file and rename it as a file ending .sh

Just had time to get this installed. So far it seems to be a bit snappier. Wish i had thought to benchmark first. Grrrr....

Frankly the whole you cant modify his script deal is a HUGE turn off. I understand him wanting credit for his hard work, BUT wth. I'll stick to safer things.
EDIT: Forget what I said I completely miss understood what he says in his post. He says
"Personal Use: You may tweak the V6 installation script (leaving credits intact) to your own personal liking as long as it is NOT redistributed in any way."
His autostart script script looks very handy. I was considering trying Gscript already here is a new reason hehe.

I can see why he doesn't want redistributables floating around, even with the open source (something I feel very strongly about) nature of the forum.
All I wanted to do was spread the word, maybe help along the way, if I've done this then I'm happy

You can also auto start scripts without having to use script manager or any other scripting program by calling them from within install-recovery.sh (see my sdswap mod).
For example if you had a script /data/app/supercharger.sh
in install_recovery.sh you'd add a line sh /data/app/supercharger.sh

Cool. I have re-written another version of my hulu script in .sh and set it up to be able to run in a normal verbose mode, or to accept "silent" as a command line argument to redirect output to a lhulu.log file instead to better allow for the option of running at startup like a cron entry or what ever our allowed methods are on android.(like the one you just referenced, thanks) I'm planning on playing with it a little to figure out the best and easiest method. Then repost the updated version that can be a semi permanent fix.

install-recovery.sh won't work for the hulu lib, sometime after that script is loaded all the apks libs get extracted for whatever reason. Unless you put a wait in there for the prop sys.boot_complete or something like that. Might also need to use busybox run-parts for a seperate init.d script, not sure if the wait would actually stop the rest of the boot process.

It should be fine, install_recovery is called really late in the boot process you're right about putting the waits in, if you look at my swapscript you'll see the amount of time I used to get it to work (and it does not pause the other processes).

It's not as late as I previously thought myself. dmesg won't work at that point and getting a logcat from there you'll see it's the start of the system log just when vold starts up. Which is why you need a few sleeps in your script. Using it was my second attempt at 2nd-init, which wasn't possible until after my first bootloop, the boot animation starts later but also before the libs are replaced.
For hulu I've just been running a gscript after a reboot because of this, at least until I find a different solution.
Anyway install-recovery is the perfect spot for any kind of kernel tweaks and also SuperCharger.

Sorry a little confused with the last part how do I navigate to /data in script manager?
Edit.. never mind. ma bad noob moment, couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get out of the mnt part of the directory.
