Slowdowns and lag after a few days - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello guys,
Dunno if you are experiencing this, but i am having some problems with my nexus. After clean installing a rom, everything works perfectly smooth and fast, but after i install my usual apps and copy some music, the phone starts to be verry sluggish.
Is there any way i can get rid of that. This happens with allmost every rom and kernel combination out there. :silly:
Thanks

Also, set your processes max to 3 w/i your settings:developer options.

Allready tried that, and my rom still lags.
Curriously, on stock rom everything is ok

YMMV, I suppose, and everyone defines their interpretation of lag differently...but keeping your cache clean and minimizing the number of processes you have running @ any given time is the best approach to smooth sailing, regardless of stock or custom.
If running stock, disregard this next piece of advice, but if custom...up your minimum gov. on your kernel, and give it a go. You'll sacrifice a bit of battery life, but increase response time.

rebbot on recovery and clean cache and dalvik cache always works for me.

[Q] Unstable software

Hey everyone,
Ever since I bought the TP2 I've had issues with every rom I tried. I started with a 6.1 build. not long after that several updates where released by HTC.. but I kept issues with crashing software, freezing etc. This both with a clean build and with some approperiate software installed. I did notice that when I used a backup program the system was more unstable than when it was a complete clean build.
After the 6.5 releases I was about to throw the phone out of my window. I tried a bunch of roms, from the simplest builds available to several others. But no matter what I try the phone keeps freezing, and crashing. I also have issues with the alarm not going off sometimes.
When I installed third party roms I used the recommended radio's. and I followed the instructions given, which includes whiping the system before I install a new radio and rom.
I've searched the web for this but I haven't found out what this could be, maybe any of you have a clue what the problem could be.
Thanks in advance!

What ROMs have you tried? When you say you wiped the phone, you mean you ran Task29? If not, I would highly recommend doing so before every ROM flash. Also after the phone boots up after the flash, hard reset to empty the storage memory, just to be safe. May or may not help, but can't hurt.
I run the ROM stated in my signature, and it very rarely freezes or crashes, and thats with the CPU overclocked to 729 MHz.
Most backup software is not meant to move from one ROM to another (and can cause a lot of problems is you do so), only for backing up and restoring within the same ROM. Try some research on the specific backup application you use, to see if this is the case.
I run the 21916 Energy ROM. I have tried several different ROMs and they all seem to pretty much work the same. The only ROM I have ever had crash or lock up on me is the factory TF3D based rom. I always use the task 29 and flash any rom I want to try.
Hope this helps.
First of all, thanks for the fast replies.
I've used task29 with every new flash. I might try it again without using a backup. And I will also try to overclock it a bit. I've done a dozen of hard resets allready, and I soft reset the device on a daily basis. Might this be a hardware issue if I keep getting the issues? If so could it be worth it contacting HTC ?
I think you misunderstand about the overclocking. Overclocking would INCREASE the chances of you having freezes and crashes.
Other than on SOD I got in the 1st week of owning my Tilt 2, all my crashes have been related to overclocking or something I was doing with the phone that I shouldn't have. Yes, I sometimes have to reboot the phone because TF3D has notorious memory leakage, but other than that my phone runs great. I read about a lot of people having random lockups when doing normal phone stuff (mostly TP2 owners) and I have to wonder if they just got defective phones. Other than that 1 unexplainable SOD, I know exactly why my phone doesn't behave as it should and it isn't that often. I've been overclocking it at 748 for a month without issue.

Well, in that case I will not overclock anything!
Which rom do you guys recommend as one of the lightest and most stable roms? if I got the same issue with a clean build I will put everything to stock and contact HTC about this.
The simplicity ROM that I show in my signature is very lightweight, smooth, and stable. Its the best I've used do far.
I will try that one without restoring a backup then. Many thanks guys !

Help with resolving Gnex performance issues

Stock my Gnex was a rocket, but after I started ROMing it is a laggy MESS. I do a clean wipe on each ROM install, but even before I load up any apps it stutters like crazy. The nav buttons can take seconds to respond, swiping through home screens jerks really bad.
Currently I am running the latest CM10 nightly JB rom, but it acts this way on any ROM I have tried. It seems to be a file system issue...the lag feels like the lag you get when you update a lot of market apps all at the same time...except all the time. Opening Google now can take up to 30 seconds on a clean install.
Any ideas on what may be going on?

Suggestion-1: Flash stock once again and check whether the same happens. If the same happens again you may contact for phone replacement.
Suggestion-2: Try Wiping cache and Dalvik cache in CWM and reboot. Many times this has helped my phone to work fast.
Suggestion-3: There are many other ROMs around. Try them out.
I am not an expert to suggest you. But hope above works. Hope any more suggestions come up for you.
I have tried every popular ROM out, and wipe data and all cache on every install. They all act exactly the same. I really think there is some kind of bandwidth issue on the system partition. Maybe the flash storage has degraded? I will try flashing it back to stock to see if that would makes aay kind of difference.
I had been planning to RMA it anyway because of some major screen burn in issues...but was trying not to because I bought it through Letstalk, so I need to deal directly with Samsung for a replacement...which means being without a phone for a week or two.
I believe prior to flashing you should do data wipe cache and wipe System also :/ don't know if you've tried that it's under mounts and storage in CWM =)
I just setup a Samsung RMA for the screen issue. Hopefully they simply give me a refurb instead of repairing it.
logcat, df, dmesg and in this case, maybe a 0xbench math/vm test or it didnt happen.
not sure how a custom rom would be slower than stock.
i dont think its hw issue, or stock would suffer from the issue.

My apologies, I wasn't clear. I meant that the device worked great while it was stock, but now it runs like crap. Custom ROMs may or may not have anything to do with that which is why I mentioned it. I will say that the stock-ish JB leaks ran flawlessly, while the ICS custom ROMs I was running before ran like crap. After I moved off the JB leaks to custom JB ROMs it started to run like crap again.

I thought I'd update this in case anyone else has ever had a similar issue. As I was preparing the device to be sent back to Samsung for a screen defect, I flashed the stock 4.1.1 factory image, and locked the bootloader. It feels like a completely new device..flying faster than I have ever seen it go.
I do not know why this resolved my issues and a wipe data/clear cache never did. Maybe encrypting the bootloader did something to the file system a normal wipe data doesn't? But then again the JB leak seemed to run well too if memory serves..so I just don't know.
Now that it is running properly for the first time in months...I really cannot stand sending it back and being without it while waiting for the repair.

It did it on ICS ROMS too, but now that i think about it every ROM I have tried was based off CM9 or 10. Either way it's on the way back to Samsung now (for screen problems) so hopefully the next one doesn't have this odd issue.

Maximus HD 21.3.0 slowing down

Hi,
I have been running the Maximus HD rom for about 7 months now and it was excellent at first, but it has in the past couple months been getting much worse in battery life. The phone becomes quite unresponsive and slow, just flicking between home screens or bringing up the app drawer. Performance when even opening the default messages app to send a text and wait for Swiftkey to load up is slow, sometimes taking 2 to 3 seconds for the keyboard to appear. The problem is not just swiftkey though.
Basically I want to "reset the rom". I'm happy with the rom and it's features, but perhaps a fresh install of my apps will fix things up. What is the recommended route of doing this, should I install the zip file again, or should I just boot to CWM and run a clear cache/clear dalvik cache? It would be nice not have to set all my apps up again, so if there is a quicker work around that someone could suggest I am open to try that. I will of course run an Nandroid backup before touching anything.
Thanks for your advice!
Cheers
Wipe caches first. If that doesn't help you can create a backup with titanium backup and do full wipe and re install of the rom

What indeed... haha.
At first I did wipe the cache's but it still had terrible performance. Ended up doing a full wipe/reset and reinstalling the rom, then restoring my apps and data. It seems better, but I think the battery is on its way out. Planned obsolescence perhaps? The phone is 27 months old, I guess the battery has to die sooner than later.
Cheers for your suggestions guys.

Help with a small advice

Hello.
Stock ROM is full of lag. CM11 TeamCanjica is not so bright either. I also put TeamCanjica Kernel, but nothing changed.
Facebook, FB Messenger, Skype, Yahoo mail, Soundcloud: all are working like ****! Phone is lagging when i try to enter theese apps. Also, sometimes it gives force close, sometimes it freezes. Nothing good!!
Overall, the conclusion is that i should throw away this phone, but I don't want&don't have $ to buy a new one.
Can anybody advice me into what ROM and/or Kernel to put on my Ace2 so it would move smoother?
Thanks!

CM11 + kernel by @ace2nutzer provides a very good performance.
Facebook and Facebook Messenger are two of the worst apps ever released. Best way is to uninstall both and use any other messenger If you think that you really need Facebook (on your phone or in your life) try Facebook Lite from FDROID. Its a very lightweight browser that uses facebook mobile website.
Thanks for the tip. I went back to stock 4.1.2.
Removed 50% of the apps(bloatware).
Things are fine for now . Seems you have to reflash the stock firmware from time to time so it may move smoother.
In the end, i confess something: i really don't know how to handle these kernels. Can you please advice me about ace2nutzer kernel? I flash it, and then? What should I do to boost performance? Be a bit more specific

So set up your phone as mentioned before (From stock firmware):
Download Temporary CWM, CM11 build 11/18 and kernel build 03/20 by ace2nutzer
- Copy Temp CWM to your external sd card, other files to your internal sd card
- Flash Temp CWM using stock recovery
- Flash kernel using Temp CWM
- Reboot recovery (kernel includes a perm CWM)
- Flash rom, kernel, gapps (of your choice) and if you like SuperSU
For a good performance:
Set cpu speed to 400/1150-1200MHz while using "interactive" governor

1.40.401.8 overheating

Hello guys,
Since I updated to 1.40.401.8, I flashed viper latest rom. The phone heats up on minimal usage, and oh the battery....ultra drain. I can barrly make it to the middle of the day.
Anyone having the same problem after the update?
I tried to flash it again, factory reset but no use. Any ideas to fix this or should I flash the old firmware?

Check over the apps you're restoring mate, keep the install clean, let it settle, set your CPU up right, install something to keep apps from starting up (auto starts) then see how the battery is, my guess is it'll be a lot better.
From that point just install the apps you need, followed by the ones you want.
Did you change up your firmware too? Obviously that should have been done but I thought I'd ask..
Hope this helps, seems obvious but its easily overlooked.

what do you mean by change up the firmware? if the firmware and the rom didnt match it will fall into a bootloop . I flashed the latest firmware and a new rom with the new base. I didn't install any different apps I only use several app which are whats app, appy geek, 9gag,tasker and twitter that's almost all the app and I ran more apps in the older firmware.
I have 30% now from only 6 hours and 30 min. there is a huge difference. I will try ARHD since its almost stock but I really love viper rom its full of customization
.
Anyway, thanks a lot m8, ill flash and new rom and ill update you guys.

I was under the impression that you could, some people had boot loops others didn't.
Leave all apps off, full wipe, then test.
If none of this works then I would try your luck in Viper thread.

Hey,
Its looks like an issue with viper rom, ARHD is way better, less heat and more battery for sure although I miss the customizations on the viper rom:crying:.
One thing I noticed, after flashing both roms I got the "android optimizing apps" for ARHD is was about 160 I think, while viper rom had like 240 -.-" There are a lot of things under that rom and i'm assuming they're causing the heat and battery drain.
ps. I always full wipe before flashing any rom
thanks

Just pick the ones you need mate, I know about viper, it is a little heavy but that's just to ensure that people get what they need.
As for a different base with a different firmware its definitely possible as I'm running the 1.40 ROM with the 1.32 firmware, no overheating and no problems.
Glad your back up and running. Try leedroid too, that's the ROM I'm currently running.
