ROM advice for 510c on Virgin Mobile - HTC Wildfire S

Hello Everyone!
I'm not new to XDA, but I'm new to this subset of it. I am trying to help out a relative who wants his phone to be faster, smoother, and achieve better battery life if possible. Of course some room to actually install apps wouldn't hurt either.
Which ROMs are okay for the Virgin Mobile version of the Wildfire, and any recommendations on the best one? I'm not new to flashing, so just a nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!

well if its one of those set it and forget it type situations, you should download goo manager from the play store, browse compatible ROMs and get team blue ridge, flash an overclockable kernel if you think they might need one, and try the int2ext script which is great for low memory problems. if you need help finding the recourses I can do a quick search, but they're all around the wfs section somewhere.

[ROM] Creating a new rom - Conical lockscreen

Hello i am new to the forum. I am creating a ROM, using Froyo as the platform and the droid incredible as the target phone. Generic compilation was succesful.
I am currently trying to change the lockscreeen. I have some found the locations of some of the lockcreen components. Currently i am trying to figure out how slidingtab.java is called. Are there any others that have some expereinces in changing the lockscreen-
You are in the correct area. SlidingTab is an object that is used in LockScreen.java.
Interesting.. Will be watching the thread closely

+1. I plan on doing this myself eventually (the custom ROM, not just changing the lock screen). Just hard to find the time.
thanks for the quick replies. I have some time right now. My school schedule is light. I will debug lockscreen.java more and get back with my findings. thanks ihtfp69

what he said for me too..
Sure, but first I need to learn how to turn it into an *.zip for flashing. I currently run my builds through the emulator. If someone can get me pointed the right direction I can work faster ;-)

This is a silly question, but what does a "conical" lock screen look like?
It was meant as the name of the ROM. After posting I realized how it read. I'm not sure. Hmm maybe with two cones point to point.

LOL. I thought I missed out on some hot new UI paradigm or something!
pm me if you need a tester, always up for beta testing a new rom.
incredible with Virtuous 2.6 and kings 4 bfs
As far as I know their is no lockscreen sdk. If their was one lockscreen replacement could be so much easier.

don't know much about rom cooking but i have messed around with the kitchen.

Thank you. Will get to seeing if these work. Looks like the page has some good info.

ROM kitchen worked. But since I'm using an AOSP version the touch controls do not work. I'm going to debug using logcat to figure out if the controls initialize

Deviant or xone kernel for "Wicked 9.1 rom" Opinions?

So I am wanting reviews even tho its an older rom, whos getting best batt life between these two kernels?
Theres the option in Aroma installer, to pick either kernel, ive been using deviant, does anyone have any input on the xone kernel?
What seems to be the difference or the best of the two choices, besides the fact deviant way overclocks Cpu speeds.
Great rom by the way ...I see why there's 200 thanks !!!

No such thing as the best kernel or ROM for that matter. It all the depends on the device and how it handles the specific ROM or Kernel. To get your answer you're gonna have to try them both, play around with them for a while, and see which your phone handles better.

Ok well my other question is ..is the other kernel set aside as an optional kernel, like flahsable in cwm or is it only incorporated in the aroma installer process, another word's I dont want to reinstall rom evrytime just to try them.
Is there a way to redo the installer process for this rom separate from a complete reinstall
Basically im saying I cant find the other kernel as a stand alone kernel ive looked already

Did you? because once you type the kernel name on Google search the xda links should appear right away. Here are your flashable zips for each kernel. Be sure to read the entire OP to each thread.

[Q] How to make a Custom ROM ?

I'm really enthusiate to make my own custom ROM but I actually know nothing about that ? Anyone who can put me on the way ?
Go to www.xda-developers.com and browse through the articles. Look for xda university or something similar, where you will find how to build custom ROMs.
Or Google is your friend, make a little search... well I did that for you, you can start with this article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/xda-university-building-your-own-android-rom/
Good luck

What kernel are you currently running on this ROM? Have you tried other music players? flashed any recent sound mods?
Unless she's tried something else, I believe she's using the kernel from klin1344. Looked to be pretty up to date.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314835
I don't think she's flashed any sound mods, but perhaps that may help?
I'm not a CM guy, so I don't know a lot about it. Hoping one of you guys may have a suggestion.

I'm running the kernel Mr doc mentioned
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Just AOSP I believe. It uses different source that isn't 100% open I don't think. Meaning CM and other teams have to work with what they are given, not enough for perfect. It may get 100% eventually but not right now.
Very interesting I tried to go back to stock rom because when I send picture it says phone not registered on network. Looks like I can only get back to rom that's on phone (liquidsmooth)and I did back up before doing anything.

The official firmware for the T999L probably won't be released until the first update.
But, have you looked at this yet?

If you're trying to go back to stock, you have two choices there. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

That's due to the increase in picture size beyond our limit. This should fix your MMS issues

Do you have the pro version? Free version won't allow you to access root. If not, ES Explorer and Root Browser are good free alternatives.
My favorite is Root Explorer, but its a paid app too.
Once you have this sorted, find the mms.apk you downloaded, long press and copy, then browse to /system/app.
(You may need to mount it as r/w. Press menu key or look for a switch/button on screen)
Rename the existing mms.apk to mms.apk.bak
Paste the new apk in the app folder. Long press the apk and change permissions to match all other apps in that folder.
Reboot and try sending a mms.

Oh and to restore a nandroid backup, you have to use the same recovery you created it with. I think you changed recoveries at some point, right?
If it was created with cwm, it can only be restored with cwm. Same for twrp.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
+1 on that. The only sure way to convert backups specific to any recovery is to restore those backups on the very recovery they were originally created on then flash your desired recovery, reboot, boot back into recovery, and create a whole new backup of the one you just restored from the previous recovery. It may take some time, especially if you have a number of backups you're wanting to convert but it's well worth the time in having all your backups in one simple recovery folder.
Gonna try one of the ones you suggested and see what happens lol I changed my mind if I can get this rom where I want it then I'm staying with it lol with your help of course lol

Also I can't update the apps that came with rom like YouTube and Google play it says package file not signed. It's say uninstall and then reinstall but it gives no option to take off

Doesn't matter if you download by phone or pc but I'd use pc for best results. Also, download the latest gapos 20130301 from Goo or you can use updated inverted packages if you like. I personally recommend SlimRoms gapps.

I have a large q&a with a great community that will help you more then most will. I'll step in from time to time, I suggest moving the convo, and what exactly you want to achieve there, as of right now it seems like you are having 4 or more issues with things that are scattered, try to accumalate your issue to one post to make sure people help you on one thing at a time, you're making it difficult to help you at this point lol. Here is the Q&A http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106546
Problem fixed itself thank you for your help

Glad to hear that! You should bookmark the thread that mt3g linked above. You may find it and the rom thread to be great resources! Its almost always at the top here in Q&A, so it should be easy to find too.

I apologize if this question is already been asked, what I'm asking to see if anyone has has found a way to get all apps for multitasking for the build number mc2. What's that? I kinda wanna stay on the same ROM if that's possible.
I went back to Google and searched again, this is what I found:
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-hack-apps-into-multi-window-mode-on-galaxy-note-2-50011004/
I'll report back later to say if it works or not.
Yep. I just used the xda threads, but that looks the same process.
Im also on stock rooted and have used xposed to implement several mods. Great tool!
