I was just checking on where I stand with this months data usage and I noticed that the Phase Beam live wallpaper was the highest data hog this month. 1)Why is a live wallpaper using data if it has nothing to do with retrieving information of any type? And 2) Why is it doing it when I have never used it as a wallpaper?

Lovely responses and ever so helpful. Sigh
I'll try to take a peek at the phase beam lwp code and see if I can verify that it is indeed using data.
If you post your apk that would be even better, as I don't know if what you and I have are the same ones.

If you're rooted (and if not, why not!), you can use es explorer (very useful! ) and find it likely under /system/app or /data/app. Then you can copy it to your sdcard and do whatever with it.

Has anyone found a reason for phase beam using data?
I cracked open the apk originally provided and went through the code. There is absolutely no indication of network access anywhere.
So, I'm wondering how you're seeing data being used by phasebeam and exactly how accurate that determination is. I see the image in OP, but that doesn't make any sense at all. :/

I know on my Skyrocket when I would remove an app that used data or disabled an app that used data the stock data manager would assign whatever data usage of the app removed to another app or just show a green Android next to an amount of data. I have no idea how it would choose.
I'm on the sprint GS4 and I see this same thing. but mine isn't using a bit, its pulled over a GB of data!

Hello fellow XDA-members.
First of all, i am not sure if this is the right place to put it; please move it, if it isn't .
I am enjoying my Nexus 7, but want to customize my homescreen even more. The problem is, that i am not very good with photoshop, and don't really have the skills to do what i want done.
Therefore, i hope that one of you kind mens can help me with what i am searching for.
Basically, i need 5 images, that shall each be one of my homescreens.
I have a very specific idea in my head, with each homescreen being kind of a room in my own little house.
To explain further, i have tried drawing a paper explaining what i need on the 5 pages, and have also included a picture of my own attempt for one of the pages.
Oh, and if somebody didn't know, the Nexus uses 1280x800, but there's a small bar in the bottom too .
I really hope that i can get some help, it would be greatly appreciated!

I think the problem you are going to run into is that the wallpaper only scrolls a small amount of when you change home screens. That being said maybe resizeable widgets would be the way to go. I have no experience building widgets but I think they will give you the results you are looking for. If I am wrong someone please correct me. This is a very interesting concept. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

The thing is, that there is a app, socalled "Multipicture live wallpaper" that will do the job . Here you can select 5 difference wallpapers, and they will then fit on each their screen

I had the same problem at first, then i found out how to do. Under the setting, find the "Advanced settings", then go to "Workaround for some home application" and choose "Force 5 screens". That's how i made it work, after it changed two screens between every swipe in the beginning
Dear forum members!
Maybe I'll ask a stupid question now. Today an Interesting thing happened with me when I was chatting on my galaxy nexus by imo messenger. Maybe because of allowed automatic screen orienation, but my keyboard "went wrong".... However I liked this very much )) I already tried to make it happen again, but without success.
I experienced the following (bug): When I used the stock JB keyboard, its size was shrink vertically maybe 1 - 1,5cm... The buttons size was the normal, but the space betwen almost nothing. My question is about this... Is someone knows any way to make the keyboard size smaller? My fingers are not so big and was very comfortable to use this "layout"... beside I saw much more from the screen content... I already tried to download some third party keyboard app but I didn't see any option to make its size smaller. My phone is already rooted, and I interested in any solution that make my keyboard a little smaller Is someone has any idea?
ps.: sorry for my english

I achieved this in the past by changing the LCD's Density, You can try that or use ParanoidAndroid's Phablet mode

I still have clockwork mod recovery.. can someone help me how to change back the setting?
Arrgh... I'm so dumb...:S
lol your build.prop is screwed. You changed DPI for the whole system which it couldn't handle obviously (120 is very low). The only right way to change the DPI is in my opinion with the Paranoid Android rom we all have mentioned.
Not sure how to fix it. Guess someone else can chim in with an answer.
You don't happen to have a recent backup, do you? Always nandroid before doing stuff like that!

My Main question.
Be nice.
Or don't read!!!!!!!!!!
Question one. How to properly extract a keyboard from a custom rom.
or really any APK in that matter system or user apk. Is there a proper way to do it, or a way to know which apks use extra framework files and so on.
Question two of my two part main question sorta newbie post.
It gets more noob as you go on.
K question two is I am trying hard to learn to mod but im having a terible time with it. Is there a very simple basic guide to themes or to Moding Apks... speciflcy I want to invert a swiftkeyboard and I also want to learn how to take together a rom and put it back together. I don't need to become a super bad ass modder or anything ... Its just for fun but some simple theme and Rom guides would be great. BTW only ones you read your self that helped you (im not dumb I can search for all this **** my self) Im asking because I did that already and it didn't help me get very far so now im asking for help. Two more questions but if you can just answer top to I be happy. Rest are extra answer if you feel like it thanks for your time.
Next noob question is there a format SD card option on S3? or is it my rom thats missing one. I checked other roms never seem to find one. I know I can factory reset phone and it will delete sd card if I want but I dunno if its same thing.
Fast noob questions
1.What happens when you freeze a app? Will it still update?
2. If you use TIBU How many backups per app do you keep? just 1 backup per app, or two? curious
3. What rom are you using (not whats best) just right now what are you driving.... peace ((that last one was hella noob))
I have a good idea for a cool app too so if you make apps and **** pm me I tell you it... dunno might be impossible but I hate not having it in real life it would make my life more easy plus I think be fun to make let me know later

I am not a dev but i know you can pull out an apk (and any file associations) using root explorer. I have done it before for my previous phone.
I know nothing about theming unfortunately (except how to install and apply)
For formatting an sdcard I am assuming you are referring to an external micro sd. If so you should have the option under "Settings/Storage". There should be an option to "Format SDcard". If not it is a rom limitation possibly (but an odd limitation) which you need to inquire at the forum for JellyBam. If all else fails, remove and format with a desktop/laptop.
1. Freeze app = no updates
2. Your choice. How many backups per app do you want? You have the option to choose in TiBu. I personally only keep one.
3. Running stock that I have rooted and debloated and added a few mods. Thus far I am seeing the best battery life from it. Occasionally I enjoy AOKP for a time.

Hello everybody !!
Though few people know about this trick but many people dont know about it and search for application to take screenshot. Many are fed up of trial version of apps and complicated setting of different apps.
Here I thought to share with you the simple steps to take screenshot using stock Rom or Custom Rom.
**NO ROOT NEEDED**
Steps :
1) Go to you desire app, or anywhere you want to take screenshot.
2) Press the Home Button downward or press it little bit its down.Then quickly press the Power Button to take the screenshots. (do not remove your finger before clicking the power button i.e home button + power button)
3) Note: Dont be very quick or slow otherwise the screenshot will not be taken.
Here are some screenshots.

This tutorial is for those who dont know how to take screenshots. Those who know about this please dont comment rubbish by saying "it is basic knowledge and all". So, moderators plz do not delete this post.

You need not flame on him or neither be sarcatic. He shared his thought/experience/knowledge (which one ever you want to call it). Neither did he mention the existence of having android .2.2 on Galaxy Y. You could have told it to him in a calmer and nicer tone. Hope you understand.

Hi guys!
Here I present to you a simple modification I have done in my S3.
THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD.
Actually this is just for my personal enjoyment but I decided to share it here in case anybody is interested.
I modified the SystemUI.apk on my phone running Back-to-N00t V6 from the usual 3G icon to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I resized the icon to match the display since from the source where I got the icon it is in xxhdpi whereas in Back-to-N00t ROM it is in xhdpi only.
HOWEVER, if you are interested, download the file below:
View attachment SystemUI.apk
If you prefer H+ icon, download this file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3101092&d=1420550912
Instructions
1. Copy the file to your device.
2. I personally use Root Explorer, but if you have another file manager that can access system files, you can use it.
3. Put the file to /system/priv-app.
4. Set permissions.
5. Reboot.
6. You're good to go! HAHA!
If you are asking if this will work in versions 1-5 then my answer is
I DON'T KNOW.
If you want to, then you try but make sure to make a BACKUP first in case something goes wrong.
HIT THANKS IF YOU LIKE MY WORK!
All credits to @sunajkram23 to where I got the LTE icon (from his ROM) and to @arter97 for his amazing ROM.
It is just graphical or real functionality..?

Respect for your work, but why display Lte on a device that don't support it.
I think it would be more useful if you made a sys ui that shows H and H+ when its running on H and H plus
I think more people would find that useful. Showing correct data.
I hope you could make that possible too
Good work anyways

Then whats the need of this mod if it is just for implementing graphical 4G lte icon...?
I think he just done it for personal use and decided to share it. Which is fine and respect for that. But I hope one that displays H and H plus can be made too that functions the correct way.

back to noot ROM only has 3G and LTE in mobile data settings, so I modified the 3G icon to 4G LTE.
Actually as stated, it is only for personal reasons but I decided to share it.
BTW, If want H+ icon I can do it for you. HOLD ON for at least a few minutes.
