Fido Phone With CM10 Caller ID Problems - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a Fido Samsung Galaxy S III that is running CM10 stable.
The caller ID I receive on the phone are all scrambled letters, like they're corrupted. For example, someone's caller ID will be AJ#*%*#$JF
How do I fix this problem? I've flashed the latest modem available for the Canadian region but this did not fix the problem

Rogers S3 Caller ID Garbled
I'm having the same problem but with the following phone:
Rogers Samsung S3
Baseband: I747MUMLL1
CM 10.1 Nightly
K747 Kernel 3.0.62 (Feb 8/13)
Android Version 4.2
I've been having the issue ever since I started using custom ROM's. If the contact is in my contacts it shows fine, but if it's not in my contacts then it shows garbled information for the NAME, the number shows fine.
Does anyone have a solution or even any thoughts on how to fix this?

Rogers S3 Caller ID Garbled
I am also having the same issue. My phone details are below:
Model: Samsung SGH-I747 (Rogers)
Android Version: 4.2.2
Kernel: 3.4.45-cyanogenmod-g23e3784 [email protected] #1 Fri May 31 14:53:30 PDT 2013
Cyanogenmod Version: 10.1.0-RC4-d2att
Has anyone determined a resolution for this?
Thanks,

This is a known issue with CM10.1 as well as any roms based on CM10.1. CM 10.0 included.
I've tried all of the 'M' modems to see which ones work for call display and this is what I found.
Working Call Display

Call Display Garbled

LK4
LL1
There is an open JIRA report on the issue. https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1202 Not sure when or if this will be fixed. For now, just try one of the ICS modems that I listed above as working.
This does not apply to any ROMs that do not support CNAP. Call display on anything CM or CM based however should work by going back to an older modem as this ROM does support Name Call Display at least when using ICS modems.
On a side note, if you want to help generate some interest on this bug and hopefully get it resolved. Sign up on JIRA and click "Vote" to vote for the issue. No need to comment or say you are seeing the same thing. A simple vote works great.

Cm10.1 RC5 has fixed the garbled Call Display Name when using the LK3, LK4 and LL1 modems for us Rogers/Fido users. No need to use an ICS based modem just to get this to work.

Hey folks,
this issue has resurfaced for me in the 10.1 nightlies. Can anyone else confirm?
Also, wonder if anyone knows what fixed it, as I would like to suggest the fix be re-implemented...

Everything is still okay for me. Currently on today's release of CMs nightly. Running MF1 modem.

I have the same issue with caller ID bad scrambled on Samsung S2 i727 with Fideo/Rogers network using CM10.1 to CM11

Roger's / Fido Name Display CallerID CNAP / CNAM issue
Issue exists at nearly the end of 2015. From what I remember it worked on and off randomly and suddenly then just does not work no matter which CM or AOSP base ROM I flash now. Only on their crappy stock ROM it works. This means Roger's / Fido are screwing up something and refusing to accept it. Whatever they are doing is probably not a standard technology. Someone told me it works for them on Telus. So I will need more people to confirm this before I go at Roger's full speed and let them know what the deal is. Personally, I think Roger's are breaking rules to get people to use their Phones and their Software rather than buying cheaper used unbranded / unlocked devices. They don't like that. Also, I wasted hours of my life to find details from them, and they know about as much as a Cat knows about the solar system. So I say call and just keep complaining and tell them what they are doing is not standard. (Because I remember it used to work).
Thanks!

Rogers / Fido call ID altogether absent on CM13 / skyrocket
I'm good and tired of the lack of caller ID on Fido, and the wife really likes her SGH-i727r. My current feeling is that the chance of getting any intelligible information from Fido / Rogers on this topic is of the same order of the cat versus the universe that you alluded to..,. Unless by fortune, some technical person on the inside (Rogers/Fido) belongs to xda-dev?
With the above in mind, putting on my reverse engineer's hat, do you have any good hints of how to go about getting into the nuts and bolts of 1. obtaining raw caller ID data from the phone, and 2. examining the code in CM that is relevant to processing same? Or pointers to individuals who might be able to dispense the necessary hints and entry points?
Regards,
Tim

Thanks for your response. I thought it was just me and a couple other people but after my numerous posts around the web, I'm beginning to see that I'm not alone.
I got it working half assed like I mentioned in a couple of my posts but the issue is due to our Custom ROMS, ie, Cyanogenmod, AOSP, AOKP, etc etc. They all have this problem.
Also, they don't make use of Sim toolkit, there are no CSC in custom Roms, and they also don't contain some of the Framework required to make this feature work with the RIL in our phones. Those frameworks are proprietary and cannot be ported to Cyanogenmod or Custom ROMS which are based on Android.
Android by itself is just a shell on top of the kernel. To get specific features working with the hardware properly, the Manufacturer provides the Code needed to get Carrier ROMS working with their respective services. So unless Google puts this Standard functionality in their Source, we will never get a fix and Cyanogenmod is certainly not going to fix it. But because it is open source, many developers are able to realize that lots of features do not work, sometimes they can fix them, sometimes they cannot.
Your best bet is to do what I ended up doing if you intend to use your device as a Phone and not a mini entertainment computer. I went back to Stock ROM, Amped up its security to the best of my knowledge to protect from Stagefright type stuff, while I keep other devices around for GPS, Music, etc, running on CM 13.1.
Also, with newer phones coming out, they are becoming decent enough that CM and AOSP based ROMS are hardly needed anymore anyway.
If you want more control over your device, make sure that it comes with an Unlocked Bootloader to begin with. Do research before you buy. This way you will never have to deal with these issues. Good luck Tim.

[Rom][Kernel] [Firmware]at&t i747 2 way call recording

Hello everyone im new but iv been using the site for about 2 years. So for the past 2 years iv gotten all my answers from reading but this issue has me stumped and i see so many different people working on it. So can anyone tell me the best way to go about getting my phone to record calls. when i had ics it worked fine but only recorded one side of the call but i was able to get by with that. it would be nice to have both sides but idk if this phone is even capable of it? so when it was working on ics i used third party software now that my phone updated to 4.1.1 none of the apps work but it see i now have the option in the dial-er , i downloaded the root media scanner to stop the error but it still doesn't record. so should i go back to a ics rom and look for a kernel that will record both sides and use third party software or should i use a jellybean rom with the new dial-er record built into it. it also has the settings options to automatically record all incoming and outgoing but it wont work on my stock rom or kernel? also i would like to overclock and i dont think my stock kernel will support that either. im rooted with cwm recovery installed. has anyone Finely gotten to the bottom of this issue?

[Q] Gs3 "Goodness" v7.0.3

Does anyone know if the v7.0.3 is a port cause the rom I downloaded is suppose to be for sprint but the model it shows after I installed it is for a 9300 it runs great and super fast but there are some issues like all share cast doesn't work and the voice mail tries to verify acct. but doesn't just wondering if it's ported and if there is an official for sprint gs3

It's not a port. I saw somewhere in the original ROM thread that for some reason keeping the model number like that solved a few known bugs. Also, I believe 7.0.3 is the only version to have all share problems right now (when you first boot, it crashes). Last release didn't do that. I think they are working on a fix.
Just taking a wild guess here, but it might be that they borrowed some libs from a device with that model number, and so that it would work (maybe it read the model number) thats the "fix" they had to use

In regards to this posted in the Cyanogen 10.1 samsung galaxy note 2 (sprint) forum, how would I use said 'band-aid?' while waiting for the upstream fix in CM 10. I'm stuck with 3g in a 4g area, and the thought of reverting back to TouchWiz gives me the chills. (Sprint Samsung Galaxy note II using Pac-Man rom).
PS. Don't be too harsh on me, as you can see by the post count I'm a foolish noob & recent convert on day 3 of my android experience.
Thanks tremendously,
GM.
After more digging it seems the answer to this question is almost certainly 'no'.
So let me refine my question: Is their a way to accomplish what sprint hands free activation accomplishes, carrier update/prl etc from an AOSP rom? I don't mind if I have to do some kind of procedure after every reboot to get 4g LTE back, I'm a linux veteran, I don't care if it involves replacing a file fixing permissions or killing and restarting a process, etc, whatever works, but having to flash back to TW to run through hands free and flash back to pacman/PA/CM/AOSP every single time I want to connect to 4G LTE, only to lose it and nigh see it again after a reboot is a little much here, and it sounds like the fix is pretty far off.
Thanks.
GM
You can only complete hands free activation on a stock rom. Since CM is stock Android, it doesn't retain any carrier or manufacturer apps and settings. Like you, I want LTE on roms like CM, but it looks like we'll have to wait.

[ROM][CDMA][4.3.1] PAC-Man for SCH-I800 and SPH-P100

Hey guys, I recently found an SPH-P100 in a dumpster (score! :victory and I was quite disappointed to see that there's a terrible lack of development for these devices. As such, I've forked the newest device configuration available on github, and I'll be working to release a wider variety of ROMs and to complete hardware support as much as possible. Unfortunately, there is very little I can do to address the complete lack of 3G support, as I have no service whatsoever on my device.
Now, the ROM! This is a clean build of PAC-man 4.3 for p1c. I have removed the hardcoded verizon-specific properties and model identifiers as a first step towards proper support of both Verizon and Sprint models, but no functionality is changed from the newest CM10.1 builds.
I notice that there are not any PAC builds for p1(l|n) posted either, so if there is adequate interest I may begin builds for those devices as well.
TWRP 2.6.3.0 is the included recovery, and has full SELinux support. (Compatible with KitKat ROMs!)

You are definately right. As of right now, there are no developers working on the p1c. The last one i remember was stimp0z, and his son broke his tab. So, all the developers are now gsm based. Terenceng does have a kit kat version for the p1c. I have it on my other tab. Anyway, the developers all went to kit kat.
If i can be of help, let me know.

first up - great to see someone working on development for the p1c - good score finding one in the bin!
to make things clearer - i was never a developer for the p1c, my old tablet (the p1 GSM version) was broken by my youngest son recently. my work on the p1c was purely guess work / diagnosed via my testers. p1c lost it's support from it's main developer (jt1134) before kernel 3.0 was released so without a developer to work on p1c related issues, it was hit and miss all the way. both humberos and myself had it booting, but it never worked with data (though attempts were made). now due to a generous donation from one of my CDMA testers, i will soon receive a Sprint tablet he has spare so i can continue developing - which means it will be a lot easier for me to work on issues facing the CDMA variants (but will never be able to test data myself as I live in Australia, not USA).
however - the more developers that work on the p1c the better, so please keep working on whatever you can - also working on something different to CM is definitely called for as i believe the users deserve a choice between custom ROMS for their SGT7.
if you wish to have a crack at data already - shoot me a pm and i'll give you some commits to look into that may help you on your way.
I am another P1C user, the last build around here that worked for me was alrodger's 4.1.2
Terenceng's does not work on my P1C, I am on verizon and it doesn't find the carrier and never activates.
P1C is only $75 on ebay these days for refurbished, great value.
I was kinda hoping to find a kitkat build for p1c that works but none exists and doesn't seem forthcoming by anyone.
I guess I will try 4.3.1
Does this have working usb and wifi tether? That's a biggie for me.
---------- Post added at 06:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 PM ----------
Okay I get the same failure trying to install this that I got with alrodger's final build.
using TWRP from the last kitkat flash, I wipe everything except the external sd card
then I try to install the rom and I get
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") ==
and a long list of devices
does that mean I have a device not in that list?
it then says
"E:Error executing updater binary in zip"
Also on 4.1.2 on my Sprint tab 7. I'm downloading and will give it a run. I dont have 3G but I'll report back after install.
terenceng is working on 4.4 and has "Coming Soon" for the PC1 but been a while. so now one is working on 4.4.
thanks ultravioletnanokitty for giving the P100 some love.
Update : ROM installed with out issue also used PAC gapps. WiFi OK camera OK feels quicker than 4.1.2. So all good for last 30 minute of use. Thanks for this rom dude nice job.

update: okay I remembered how to get back to basics and I used heimdall to sideload cwm bootloader recovery
very fun looking rom, however it suffers from the same problem as Terenceng's:
it does not find the verizon radio/carrier and crashes when I try to manually activate it

Hi again, as stated before I do not have 3G connection plan on my Sprint tab, So I cannot test connectivity to 3G. All other functionality I can test.
Rom working nicely, few issues with following apps:
Netflix: movie never starts playing
Youtube: video never starts playing, "There was a problem while playing, Touch to retry"
Pandora: Audio does not start
Google Play Music: Audio does not start
Timely alarm clock: The set time to ring caused app stop
Navigation in all these apps is OK just issue when playing something
Apps working well:
iHeartRadio: Working OK
Gmail: Ok
Camer: pictures OK
Ebay: seems to be working ok but have not tested placing a bid
Let me know what else I can check, weekdays have little time to test but should be able to get something done.
Let me know what you want me to check or report on?
Cheers

media playback is flat-out broken in all p1x 4.3+ roms, i believe... also, i've never found charging while the device is on to work at all... if i leave it plugged into my laptop with the screen off overnight, it gets up to 99%. if i want to fully charge it the only option i've found is to power it off and plug it in. i don't have the original samsung charger or cable, though, so that could be it. regarding the keyboard, are you using gapps? i am on my tab, and i don't have any issues... it could be an issue with the aosp keyboard, though.
I just also recently picked up one of these guys, my actual intentions for mine is to get it on verizon prepaid using a extravert as a donor phone and tethering the 3g. I seen a guy offering a service to flash them but I am a bit unsure I would rather do it myself. Have you ever looked into this yet. You might get more bars with verizon than you do with sprint. Plus at like 10 bux a month unlimited internet isn't tp bad ( if you buy a $30 card good for 3 monthes IE $10 a month)
Let me know if I can be of assitance, Looking to flash a light weight rom.

It is my understanding (but not firsthand experience) that verizon can detect this within a couple of months and kill the imei, so be careful.
Instead I got onto a friend's family plan for $10 a month legit (but data cap of course)

Lets say I work for Verizon in a department that has privy info and tools at my disposal and I will tell you we have a tool called MVD it is a Mobile Virtual Diagnostic it can detect root and will show if the tool is run. The thing is it is only loaded for tools that have the most current version of My Verizon application installed 10.0 or higher. Anything prior to that it won't load your info so root can't be seen with general tech tools. Just FYI... I am happy you all are working on SCH-I800 But I can't seem to find the the Root and Tar files to load... Any image files link?

Well, that explains the lack of sound and the fact that all video apps crash.
Seriously though, this ROM is a significant improvement for me compared to Cyanogenmod 9.1 (4.0.4). My Tab is far more stable than it was, and has only crashed on me once, forcing me to do a factory reset.
Can I flash back to an earlier ROM, say 4.2.2 or 4.0.4, without bricking my Tab? I have seen on the AT&T Galaxy S 3 (SGH-i747) board that S 3s that updated OTA to 4.3 will hard brick if flashed to an older ROM, so I am concerned.
Also, how close in hardware is the p1c to the Galaxy S GT-i9000? I have several i9000 ROMs on my computer, and if it is close enough, I might be able to get media working on mine. Worth a try. :fingers-crossed:

Android 5.0 Lollipop

e971 Lollipop limited at present...
Hi there.
I've been following the Android 5.0 porting movement at this site here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/opt...nt/port-android-l-preview-gee-t2818325/page80
People have been reporting some issues, but overall it seems like a relatively decent daily.
I tried it on my LGOG e971 (Rogers) and it was in fact pretty smooth and functional. However one issue was perplexing to me & I was unable to determine a resolution as of yet.
I am unable to stream data over cell network. I tried every possible APN permutation I could think of & found, and nothing.
Somebody on that forum mentioned it could be a kernel issue, but I honestly don't know enough at this point to try to make my own or adapt a current one. Anybody have any suggestions or can confirm or deny this issue on a Rogers e971?
Anyway, no rush as I'm using KITKAT as my current daily, but have Lollipop saved as a CWM backup for easy quick access.
Thanks for your time.
Have a great day!

I've been using this port as a daily driver for a while now it works pretty well for me, other than a few app fcs here and there. I'm on E975 international and my data is working perfectly on release 19.
