People I've been talking too on the phone say that they hear themselves echo when talking. They don't hear me echo nor do I hear them echo. This Has been happening since I switched to a CM10.1 ROM. I haven't tried it with a stoke ROM yet. Will have too.
Personally I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM. Do you think APN settings would effect call quality even though APN is for data? I reflashed the at&t modem from the link in the development reference thread and the echo is still there.
From my experience, one of the speakers is blown. I believe its the one you talk in to. If im correct your carrier should let you take it in for warranty.

I can understand that if they heard me echoing. Thing is they don't hear me echo they only hear themselves echo. Just my thoughts.
Update:
So I flashed back to the stock at&t ROM and made a few calls. They reported that they didn't hear an echo when they talked. I'm wondering if the eco is related to the cm10.1 mic issue. The next thing I'm going to try is using the plan phone APN. Anyone have any thoughts?

update
Did some more testing. I deleted all APN's and add only the ATT Phone APN and people who talk to me still have an echo when they talk.
One idea I have is noise cancellation is there any way to edit those settings or adjust those values. I only have this issue on CM10.1 ROMS not on ATT Stock ROMS. Any ideas.

it's probably related to the noise-cancelling mics; i recall the same issue happening with early versions of CM10 on the SGS3. that's one reason i haven't tried CM10.1: the phone calls have to be clear without issue. i'm on the phone 1-2 hours everyday during the week.
Did some more testing. I made a VoIP call using Skype with no issues. No echo at all. So to me that rules out noise cancelation since the echo doesn't happen over VoIP.
Since VoIP is over internet and not over the cell network it makes me think that it has to do with compression for the cell network call. Probably decompression speed on my end since they hear an echo on there end of the call.
Any thoughts? Any way to monitor this or do sys dump or log?

well, i'm not very technical and follow a KISS issue resolution approach when it comes to these things. if i have an issue with a "Custom ROM" but not the Stock ROM, it's an issue with the former. example: when i had a HTC One X with CM10 installed, i experienced a similar echo issue. i could validate this using CM10 by dialing 1-703-376-ECHO and hear the echo as i spoke into the phone. conversely, with the stock HTC One X rom, there was no echo issue. it took a while to track down, but the fabulous xda-devs eventually fixed the issue.
Ya traced it down to volume boost. Turned down the volume and the echo is gone. Oh well I like full volume on calls.

Ever since the update, my phone will sometimes not show a number from callers whos names and or numbers used to pop up. It just says "Unknown Caller/Number" even though before the update it would show their numbers. Anyone else experience this?
**EDIT**
Forgot to mention I'm fully stock.
My girlfriends phone also does this after the update and she is completely stock. I am rooted and on AOKP and haven't seen this yet.
Happening to me too, very annoying
I talked with tech support they made me do a full wipe, I did, and its still occurring. I just called in for a replacement, as I don't know what else it could be.
Probably by design by TMo so they can get you to subscribe to their caller ID app.

This has been happening to me also. Havent really looked into it.
mine did that and fixed it self on its own. weird thing is this happening to alot of people
Use whitepages caller id. It should remind the phone about caller id, and you can uninstall it later if you so choose

+1 on this. It happens to me at random. Sometimes my girlfriends number will show fine and others it will show as unknown. Not just cellphones but she has called me from her work phone and it does has happened the same thing. super annoying!
I've been seeing this alot lately also...I work in tech support and the times I have seen this something has been off on the back end we can see. I saw it was a known problem 2 weeks back but they've since removed it. Instead of moving a couple of things and click a button technically a "trouble ticket" needs to be filed so TMobile's eng team can track down the issue.
I've found no other workaround then calling in..sorry

I'm having the same problem. When I'm connected to wifi with wifi calling on, my caller ID works. But if I'm connected to the cell network with wifi turned off (or out of wifi range) then my caller ID almost never works. It's worked a few times when connected to the cell network but usually not. Have you guys called T-Mobile to let them know this is a widespread issue?
Hey guys to fix this issue, turn on Wi-Fi calling, place a call to the phone. Then change the settings on the Wi-Fi calling to use cellular network and place another call. After that it will stick until you flash another rom
Has nothing to do with wifi for me. Happens both on wifi and on cell.... Should we be sending in for a replacement? Also im on stock odin of ics. Not updated through kies. Very annoying issue i do not understand

WIFI calling enabled on SG2 won't receive calls
I've been flashing Roms for about three years now. I travel over seas quiet a bit and wifi calling is have been very helpful. But lately I've been having problems when I'm on any ICS roms. I don't know if it's just me, because looks like nobody else is having same issue, but I can't receive phone calls when wifi calling is enabled. It goes strait to voice messaging. I can make phone calls, but can't receive them. I have no problems with WIFI calling when running Gingerbread roms. Please help!
Might wanna take it up to tmobile if you confident you are following the ROM installing procedure.
How about go back to GB and see if you still have the issue

Thanks for the reply!
That's the thing, WIFI-calling is working just fine on ANY of GB ROMs (I'm running Darkside Digital Warfare v2.7 now). It's when I'm on ICS ROMs and WIFI-Calling is active incoming calls not going through, they are going to voice mail without one ring from the caller (it's like phone is off). But I can make phone calls no problem. And trust me I've tried all the new ICS ROMs that came out lately. And I do follow installing instructions very carefully.
Do you have the beats audio mod installed? I figured out with a few other people that it does cause an incoming call issue. And i know that wi fi calling is hit or miss on ICS
oh man. i just realized im having the same problem. i just didnt think anyone was calling me.
I called T-Mobile about this today, because none of my phones (S2, Blaze, Double play) would receive calls over WiFi. Ever since I called it's been working. Maybe it was a system update on the T-Mobile end?

But I can receive calls (wifi active) on all the GB ROMs I've tried. It's the ICS ROMs I'm having problem with... But thanks for the advice, I'll try calling T-mobile tomorrow.

Care to enlighten us on this "call waiting paradox"? I have never had an issue with call waiting.

It's important for you to specify carrier and which version of the phone you have. I presume from your other posts you have a Verizon GNex. The first respondent to your thread is in Manchester so I presume they have the same as I do - the GSM/HSPA version. I have never had issues with call waiting and I am thinking this is probably an issue with only the CDMA/Verizon variant.
there's an issue with call waiting? why didn't anyone tell me
maybe its an issue with your provider.
Well...I'm a Toro and have no issues.
Never did.
But do you mean the bug where you suddenly go mute to the other party?
I heard from most people that that was fixed for them on 4.1.1 ROMs.
Ok. So if I am on a call and I answer the phone to pick up call 2 everything is sort of fine but I cannot tell who I am on the phone with. It just say on a call. There is no where I can switch to the other call, call #1. No swap button, or anything. Then when I hang up with call #2 it seems to have hung up on call #1. But if u wait about 10 seconds the phone rings and call #1 is there... I cannot just simply hang up and call #1 is there. I am not the only person with the issue, as I have seen it frequently on the Web being reported.
I am on a Verizon LTE version of the phone. My fiance has the same phone, same issue.

Definitely doesn't happen on the HSPA version. Tried it last night.
I seem to remember a thread where someone was complaining about difficulty controlling multiple calls on the CDMA iPhone, and their screens looked significantly different from the GSM/HSPA iPhone. Are there certain limitations to CDMA networks?
I know the issue has been around since ICS. I have always experienced it, root and unrooted... Here are some other threads of people complaining, as I have researched this quite a bit. I would be willing to try out another for Verizion CDMA if I knew it would fix the issue. I am currently running "Vicious-Toro V1-JellyBean 4.1.1 "
Anyway here is another thread I have found with people complaining about this:
http://www.galaxynexusforum.com/for...l-discussion/4004-call-waiting-confusion.html
what are the grooveip settings people use to bettery voice quality, cancel background beeping and echoing for grooveip on the galaxy s3?
I wish I could tell you. When I'm at home I use the nexus 7/grooveIP for voice duties.
BUT I am curious about your sig, the **004 att VM thing. When I set up my VM iof course it says it couldn't change it, but it works anyway.
(exactly like the nexus 1 did with GV and att VM) Now you got me itching to mess with things, even though it's working fine.
This is why I stay away from xda lol.

Hey jbrinkley it might be a little different on a tablet but could you tell me what troubleshooting or echo options you changed from default? I would greatly apprecaite it.
I managed to get rid of the echo but even with a full wifi signal my voice dips in and out on the caller's end. I am initially only interested in testing a number from the call receiving end as I want grooveip to pick up calls when I'm on airplane mode
If your carrier is at&t the code that google voice tells you to dial in is missing an extra 0...if you insert that extra zero with your cellular radio on its a simple way to configure your voicemail.
My setup for voice is to get people to call my at&t number on airplane mode with wifi and for me to get it in grooveip but on cellular to get it directly. I keep my at&t voicemail on both sides.
Call forwarding on my rom are as below. I disabled always forward...kept the carrier's forward when busy (908 number on at&t) but for unanswered and unreachable I set my voice number
Check out an app that allows you to manage wifi/cellular settings for grooveip called groove forwarder
edit,, i see now you were looking for trouble shooting settings. sorry, in my nexus devices I didn't mess with any of that. Just the volumes.
on my nexus one:
basic echo canceler checked
echo tail 0-200
speaker volume -1
microphone gain 2
bluetooth speaker volume 2
bluetooth mic gain -2
on nexus 7:
basic echo and same tail, 0-200
speaker volume 4
microphone gain -5
bluetooth speaker volume 10
bluetooth mic gain -1
the volume settings are what made my set ups better, especially in the phones. I think basic echo and auto detect tail are checked by default.
when I have a chance I will use the gs3 to make a phone call and see how it is. I didn't even have groove ip on it until yesterday.
thanks for the att tips, I will try that next time I flash
I plan on making a thread with my SG3 settings on the galaxy s3 and how to get phone calls in airplane mode. There are so many microphones on the s3 that a lot of it just causes feedback and I had to play around with it a lot.
Try "Talktone" from the play store. It does the same thing as Groove I but has much much better integration settings. You can set it up to intercept calls made by the native android dialer and calls made with Talktone can show up on your Android call log. It also handles text. The quality is about the same as grove ip but the features And customization options are more /better.

thanks for the tip, I'll try it out. GrooveIP has been working pretty well for me.. i just use the default settings
Only in some aspects the biggest is the cost of talkatone and for me grooveip sets up call behavior based on
schedule
wifi cell reception
startup

This has happened to me with my friend using Oneplus 3. I've heard echoes of my own voice while talking to her. This has been issue on her device with both Nougat and Oreo. But this echoing only used to happenb(sometimes still happens) during phone calls
She's using Vodafone. Voice calls on facebook messenger and whatsapp were of clear quality.
I'd suggest that you enable VOLTE in phone settings.
If that doesn't solve your problem then do a factory reset after doing a data backup.
