If we are to believe this video from CNET (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2xnWH724Ho) you should be safe.

You will be fine, else nordic countries would be top consumers in phones about 1/3rd of the year

I've been out for an hour a day for the last three days in below zero (F) weather. No problems to report! :good:

Thanks for share, but i will not carry my phone in my hand while skiing.. it will be in my pocket, and i suppose body temperature will affect it..
We will see tho..
One more thing im scared of is that, because of its size, i will have to carry it in a backpack.. Im hardcore skier , im skiing very fast.. There is slight chance of breaking it if i fall down But, then again, i can have some soft protection in my backpack, to prevent it from shattering

The official Samsung manual says this:
"Do not store your device in very hot or very cold areas. It is recommended to use your device at temperatures from 5 °C to 35 °C
• Your device can explode if left inside a closed vehicle, as the internal temperature can reach up to 80 °C.
• Do not expose your device to direct sunlight for extended periods of time (on the dashboard of a car, for example).
• Store the battery at temperatures from 0 °C to 45 °C."

Problems may come when you move between two extreme temperatures. ..due to sudden changes. ..ex. -10 degree Celsius to a room with heater at 35 Degree? ??.... the glass may crack
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)

Yeah, I'm also thinking that the glass is what would be exposed if the temperature shifts abruptly. I cannot picture how the electronics would take damage from cold, it's usually the opposite, the colder the better operation.

Glass and temperature fluctuation is a big problem, but condensation inside the phone could damage the electronics and/or make it look like the device suffered water damage (via the color changing stickers they put in there).

Sounds silly but I put my phone in a zip lock bag before I come in from the cold. That way the condensation happens to the bag and not the phone. I do the same thing with my DSLR camera.

Yup. I was going to suggest one of those waterproof camera/phone bags but I have no experience with using them. I assumed they would avoid the problem of extreme condensation.

Keep in mind that very low temperatures can result in reduced battery capacity.

Will Samsung repair it under warranty if it is water damaged?
No lol, they won't

where are the indicators though. On the GSM model
Good news: Generally, if you let these types of devices dry out fully they'll come back to life
Bad news: This usually takes about 3 weeks in a warm dry place. Turn it upside down and remove the cover.
Remove the battery right away and don't use until it is dry.

By the sounds of it I'd wager he's already tried to use it a few times.
You could try leaving it in a bowl of rice for a few days but I'm thinking the damage may have been done at that point.
Do you still have this problem?
It could be that the audio jack register a headset even if it is not present. That could explain the notification sound, but no media sound.
If this is the case you could try my software fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22244838&postcount=8 I have the same problem as you.

phone while in the sauna

i workout everyday and i always see this guys using they phone inside the sauna, either to listen to music or ot txt...yesterday i saw a guy using our phone so i went up to him and ask if he ever had a problem and he said no....so here is my question....is it on to be using the phone to txt or listen to music while inside the dry sauna? i usually stay 15 minutes in and 5 minutes out, then repeat for a few times....i dont want to demage my phone...has anybody did this before?
I can just feel the mini bath comments coming on...
And I don't think anyone would ever recommend using your phone in a sauna.
I use to do it all the time with my old blackberry and eventually it stopped working and it was because of water damage. Im not sure if it was because of the sauna or the pool beside the sauna. Who knows. My advice - If you choose to use it in the sauna, just dont use it too frequently.

Your battery temp shouldnt get real hot. Your cpu can go to those temps but the environment may cause the cpu temp to exceed what is safe/normal. The way I see it, use setcpu and underclock to 800-1000 mhz max or so while youre in there and monitor your cpu and battery temp. If they get too warm, take it out!

While in the sauna I use bluetooth headphones. Leave my phone in the locker.
I used to always take nice long, hot showers with my old MyTouch 3g without incident. When I upgraded to the GSII, I did the same for a while. But then the phone started having some weird issues, the mic didn't work anymore, and when opened it up I noticed some condensation on the inside. Fortunately, the water-sensor stickers didn't get wet and I was able to warranty replace it at t-mobile.
I do it all the time to listen to music. I wrap my phone within a towel to absorb the moisture.

I agree - bag that bad boy to protect it from the moisture, don't stress the CPU and you should be okay.

I think people are confusing Sauna and Steam Room. You're fine using it in the sauna. If you REALLY want to be safe, just underclock it to minimum values so it won't over-heat.
The biggest question is, what are you doing in a dry sauna with all those naked men???

IDK if it is just me or not but this just doesn't seem like a good idea in general, although I do give you props for actually using something to absorb the condensation inside the bag. Even if you do manage to keep your phones internal components dry you are still risking overheating S**T especially inside a ziploc bag(kinda like an oven). I think it is much safer to leave it put up somewhere for awhile, I mean really can you guys not live without your phones for that long? LOL
As a T-Mobile rep I've run into numerous situations where customers have water damage without ever dropping it in water. In these situations a common thing would be leaving their phones on in the shower and the steam getting into the water indicator sticker.
Even if you don't damage your phone, you will still risk voiding the warranty.

Batman dark knight game-hot screen

I only just got round to playing the dark knight. Noticed the left hand side of screen (when in landscape) got very very warm-where the virtual control stick is... anyone notice this? Is it normal ? Dont want to damage the phone..

my phone seems to heat up what ever i do, i suppose because of how powerful the device is and toe perform when playing games it'll have to heat up, can't expect plastic to keep the heat in tbh, i do get worried, hopefully it's nothing to get too worried about
yeah, mine warms up during other game,s probably because of the screen staying on, but the batman game was excessively warm, and only on the top half (portrait) / left hand half (landscape). haven't played since ,as don't want irreparable damage.

My Note 2 got bent???

I know this might sound wired but ya the title says it all!!!
I woke up in the morning i felt that the note is slightly bent as in its raised on the left hand side of the phone!!
I have a bad habit of keeping the note 2 next to me while sleeping so i must've rolled on top of it last night!!
Is it possible for it to happen in the first place???
Or may be keeping in my pocket of tight pants and riding the bike can do that to my note 2??
I'm shocked!! Its been hardly 15 days since i bought it!!

well this seems impossible as though the phone make is plastic it cant bent if you have rolled on top as the mattress is soft enough to protect the impact or rather it could have broken due to body pressure and to the contrary i have been carrying the phone in my jeans riding my bike to for the last 3 months and no issues whatsoever.
can you post screen of the bent position

N2 is a big phone, I carry mine in my pocket too, but I try to keep it safe from bending. Its a fact that its easy to bend such a big and long phone but riding a bicycle and bending it is a bit weird, we are waiting for pictures and further posting from you. And if thats true, try to use your warranty and get a new one? You might get lucky!

Is it really bent.... than thats one in a million production. Sounds weird thou...
I've seen videos of product testing for the GN2, and one test involved twisting the phone. It always returned to its original shape, and the twist was quite severe. You'd need a lot of force to bend this phone beyond the yield point and I'm not sure you can reach it by rolling over it on a bed. Check the battery, if you haven't already, maybe it's defective, bulging out and bending the phone in the process.
I've also carried my phone in different pockets on my bike since I got it, 1-2 months after it came out. I even fell on it once when my front wheel slipped on a patch of ice. There is a slight ripple in the glass now, only noticeable at a sharp angle, but I don't know if it's from my fall or just a manufacturing issue. Either way, I'm quite impressed with the phone's durability. If falling ass-first on it on the hard icy pavement didn't break it, I'm sure rolling over it in bed wouldn't either. I'd check it thoroughly to be certain that they couldn't blame me for damaging it and send it to warranty.
It doesn't make sense because the front panel which basically made of hardened glass shouldn't bend. If anything any stress beyond its limit will end up breaking it. Anyways, try getting a clear shot otherwise people will have a hard time believing you.

Exactly.
I would think that the only way to bend a glass panel would be to use an extreme amount of heat, like a torch. You would have to heat up the glass until glows red, and then bend the it. I just googled "how to bend glass" and here is a link for anyone interested, http://m.wikihow.com/Bend-Glass
You could possibly flex it, but it should snap right back into its original shape. Besides, the rest of the phone is a fairly flexible plastic.

G3 is water resistant?

Seems like the g3 has some level of water resistance like the HTC m8. It still worked fine after being submerged for 2hours.

Wouldn't ever try this. Ever.
I haven't held a g3 yet but its build looks a lot like the galaxy line of phones and the only things they added to the s5 to make it water resistant is a small bead of something on the lid that acts like weather stripping and a water tight lid for the usb 3 slot. Just add a bead of caulking to the g3 lid and buy a case with a usb cover. I bet you would be just as water resistant as any phone that is right out of box.
That link was for the G Watch which is rated for water and dust resistance. You can just make your phone ip67 proof that easily there's a lot involved, the speaker for one has a nano water resistant coating of I remember correctly . ip67 is a lot harder to get than you think, the Z2 is only ip55 or 58? Which is lower than the 67 of the s5, but Sony has a higher water rating allowing it to be submerged deeper for a longer time.

True.. I think I would be hesitant to even try this using the z2 or g5 both of which are officially waterproof/resistant.. I damaged my s3 when I accidentally dropped that in the toilet lol the speaker stopped working and the screen would go blank every now and then. So its nice to know the g3 may survive if accidentally drop in a puddle

Battery dropped to 19% after 2 hours. Couldn't tell what it started at but looked pretty full.
I wouldn't try it with my G3, it seems to be fake.
Even the Z2 is not covered by the guarantee if it fail due to water, so....
"Don't try at home!"
Most electronics are water resistant providing the water is very clean.
Try that in seawater and I'm sure the end result will be far different. (ruined phone!)
In that "test" at the end there were beads of water under the back cover. That's a fail right there. Just because the device is still running does not mean it can be subjected to this abuse.
Also the water depth is very shallow in a wash bowl not even half filled! Trying this at the bottom of a pool in a meter of water would have resulted in very different results! Pool water is also far more conductive and if it's a salt water pool!!!
Bottom line, outside of a case with proven water proofing, keep your devices dry. Otherwise, all bets are off on reliability down the road.

Was about to say this. It's the ions (minerals) in water that make it more conductive and short your devices. It's why you can submerge PC's in super clean oil for cooling and still have them work. Don't ever submerge your phone if avoidable.
People are idiots.

Unfortunately and as gross as this sounds...I dropped mine in the toilet. It was submerged for atleast 10 seconds before i realized. Dont ask. Just make sure you put it fully in your pocket before standing. After a full sanitizing...and I mean full...it still works fine. No issuses at all. Never turned off...never flickered...
Although I do have an Otterbox on it. That probably helped.

Well.. I have seen videos of the submergence testing on the G3 and it coming out okay from it. But if it actually were true manufacturers would jump to label & sell it as it makes a great marketing point.
But LG didn't, and they must have a reason for it. That's why I wouldn't go too careless with my phone.

The something's weird, because the video I saw when clicking on that link very clearly shows a G3 dunked in a glass bowl full of water. Not a Gwatch in sight.
I can say that my phone survived after being in a my swimming trunks for 1 hour before I realized I jumped in the pool while it was still in my pocket. I didnt realized that I had swam with it until after I got out. The phone was dead, but then I immediately removed the battery cover and battery. After shaking the water out a bit, pushing the water out through the usb and phone jack holes, I then let it dry out in the sun while I reluctantly tried not to let it ruin my vacation.
Later on that night I used a blow dryer to blow warm air into any and all holes I could see in the phone case. Then I put in a spare battery and the phone started right up! Granted the lower half of my screen had some moisture in it. I can tell because the screen was really bright there. So I turned the phone off, pulled the battery and started blow drying a bit more. After restarting, i noticed the moisture in the screen was less.
A few days later I would say my phone is fully recovered. Speakers work fine, microphone, bluetooth, gps, wifi, etc. I am semi surprised, but not so much because of the lack of moving parts in the phone. for instance, my ipod classic with a hard drive never recovered.
The only thing that I do not think has fully recovered is the battery that was submerged. this battery does not seem to hold a charge as good as it used to. but thats fine... as long as I didnt have to replace my phone. Luckily I had the spare battery already.
