I have posted this in several ROM threads as well as the Android Q&A, with not a single response.
This is what I get in the T9 dialer on ANY 4.2.1 ROM. If I tap "loading" it takes me to the contact list, I then hit the 'back' softkey and it takes me back to the dialer with the contact name displayed instead of 'loading'.
Why dont you wait for it to stop loading before you tap it? Do you have a lot of contacts? Because I dont and mine doesn't even display "loading" when dialing.

I have let it sit for up to 5 minutes and it stays at 'loading'. I have maybe 100 total contacts between my 2 Gmail accounts.

Hmm. Well I dont have that problem. Right when I press a number, the first contact it finds a match to pops right up. I'm running CM 10.1. Maybe it has something to do with the multiple Gmail accounts? I dont see why it would but its the only thing I can think of.
I don't have any issues with the stock dialer either, didn't even know there is a "loading" screen there. I use EX though cause I got use to the swipe left to text / right to call function.
Since you've given us no clue as to what you may have already tried, I'm going to start with the obvious...
I'm guessing you have either corrupt data from restoring via TiBu etc, in which case I would recommend deleting data from the app and rebooting; or you have permissions issues, in which case I would fix permissions via ROM manager and reboot...
that is pretty odd.
i once had my duplicate contacts resulting in about 300+ and i never seen that loading thing before.
i've run through boat loads of 4.2.1 roms and never seen that either.
perhaps you should check how your gmail accounts are synced in settings?
maybe go to www.google.com/contacts and see whatsup there>?
edit- agree with danger-rate
go to recovery->wipe cache->wipe dalvik cache->fix permissions->reboot

I don't restore anything from TiBu or any other backup program. I can try to fix permissions in CWM. I have run MMuzzy, Xenon, BAMF, CNA, and a few others. All of them do this on the T9 dialer. When I go between ROMs I wipe everything and start fresh.

Try fix permissions using ROM Manager.
CWM takes about 2 seconds, and gives you zero feedback. I'm not even sure it does anything.
RM takes about a minute, and tells you exactly what it's doing.
Wipe data from the app itself (long press the app in the recent used list and look at the app info). Wiping Dalvik won't do anything for this...

I just went to the Google contacts page and nothing looks wrong. I haven't had this problem since 4.2.1. I don't have a clue, it just seems odd I would be the ONLY person to have this issue.
Even after a rom manager fix permissions I still have the same problem.
Just to say its not only you OP I get this from time to time with no idea why, seems to be a rare problem,if I get it fixed will be sure to post the solution

Facebook for Sense is keeping my auto sync [icon] on, even though I have it disabled. When I remove the Facebook account, auto sync [icon] goes away. No matter how many times I toggle auto sync, background data, data connection, pull battery/reboot, NOTHING is working.
A little background:
Fresh 3.3.0.1, ran the omegasun script to remove all Sense stuff, then I put the HTCFacebook .apk back on my phone with adb.
My questions are:
a.) anyone else have this problem?
b.) anyone know of a solution?
c.) is there perhaps some other .apk that I need to put back into /system/app in order to make this work?
I have just spent the last 3 hours trying to figure this out, and I am tired of wiping and reflashing over and over only to have the issue still arise. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.
If I remember correctly, Friendstream and Talk were the two known for causing that situation.
Well I don't have Friendstream installed and I know it's not Talk because as soon as I delete HtcFacebook.apk the problem disappears.
Have you tried deleting the sense facebook and then downloading fb for android from the market?
That is what I have done. I removed the sense fb and installed the market fb app and dont have issues with sync. They are and appear as two different apps. Try that.
Are you saying permanently delete HtcFacebook? Or reinstall it after I install the market app? I don't want to delete HtcFacebook because of it's integration with the people app, the pictures and such.

I personally deleted it completely but that might not be an option for you. What integration are you talking about though because I have no problems uploading pics through the market fb app.
In the Facebook for Sense sync options, turn off Sync live feed. I think that tries to sync to friendstream. I am running this way and the contacts and pictures still work correctly.

My contact list is synced with facebook, giving me everyones profile picture for their contact card. Also, birthdays, events. I don't think you can do that with just the market app.

I don't have that option. I only have the option to sync contacts which I have turned off. I manually sync them when I get the urge to.

Yeah you can't do that with the market app. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
That's cool man, I appreciate the fact that you took the time to post regardless if it helped or not.
This is driving me nuts. I can't tell if it's actually syncing or if it's just a bug where the icon won't go away. My battery life seems fine so I dunno.
edit: It's definitely trying to do something because my wake time is 100%.

I just noticed in your sig you are using launcher pro.
You can create a shortcut to the battery usage info (the partial wake usage found on spare parts).
Long press the homescreen, shortcut, activities, settings, battery history.
You literally dont need spare parts for this and others. Maybe under partial wake it might lead you somewhere.
Yeah I already checked partial wake, Android System is maxed, dialer is barely there and thats pretty much it.
I'm gonna run the stock PC36IMG and then try to work my way back to where I'm at. Hopefully that will help.
I had a lot of issues with that Facebook app at first also. Now I realized that the Facebook for HTC Sense Live feed works with Friendstream like others have said. It also put the info in contacts showing their last status. Its is rather annoying and took me a minute before I figured it out as well.
Hope you the info in here as helped you
FIXED!!!
Ok, It seems I have fixed the problem. The autosync icon is gone and phone is sleeping again. Flashing the PC36IMG is the crucial step. Before flashing it I had wiped and reflashed my ROM multiple times with no success. These are the steps that I took, in case anyone else is having the same issue.
1. wipe
2. flash the rooted stock PC36IMG.zip
3. boot it
4. wipe again
5. flash Fresh 3.3.0.1
6. boot it
7. run omegasun's sense removal script
8. boot it
9. push HtcFacebook.apk to /system/app
10. reboot it
11. restore with Titanium
12. reboot it

Good stuff. It sounds like the problem was that you were initializing facebook before deleting stuff and breaking the communications between apps that exist and dont.

No, that wasn't the problem because I tried it both ways- flashed, booted, deleted apps and flashed, deleted apps and then booted.
I'm sure it was just some stupid bug that got cleared up when I went back to stock.
Lately, as I delete emails after I have read them within the Gmail app, they will show back up in the Inbox a little while later, sometimes as new/unread mail and sometimes showing as unread emails in the Inbox counter but not actually showing in the Inbox.
I've done several things to try and fix it:
- Went into Applications and cleared the caches (problem eventually comes back)
- Cleared the caches as well as uninstalled the Gmail updates then reinstalled from Market (problem eventually comes back)
I've searched through the forums and can't find where anyone has written about having this issue or resolving it. Has anyone here run into this and if so, how did you go about resolving it?
Thanks!
I have the same problem. Did you manage to solve this issue?
No "final" solution that fixes it...just have to keep doing the 2 steps I wrote about and the problem goes away for a while.
It happens maybe every 2 weeks and seems to pop up when I haven't gone into Gmail and emptied my trash from within the Gmail site for a while. Also seems to come back if I read through emails too quickly; maybe an issue with reading and then deleting on the phone before the phone can push back to the server that it's been read...just guessing.
Sorry...

Go to manage applications, find GMail then force stop it. clear cache and then clear data. Reopen GMail and set up the label sync etc how you like it and should be good. Hope this works for you, let me know.
Thanks ifly! Haven't tried the force stop part before so I just did it. I'll report back if anything comes back.

No problem at all. Hope it fixes it. I have this happen quite a bit after a nand backup or restore. When I do a nand restore i always wipe data/factory reset, then cache and davlik now and that seems to fix the problem. Not sure what is getting hung up in the data to cause this.
That's what's been bugging me as well...I do all the wipes when I do a nand restore or load a new rom but Gmail always seems to go back to this stranger behavior. I looked all over these forums (and others), hoping someone had at least seen the same thing but to no avail.
UPDATE: Started having the same issue with Gmail. Was honestly hoping the last suggestion would help...guess not.
Any other ideas...anyone?
Login to gmail from a browser.
Click settings and then "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
Check the settings there. I have both pop enabled and IMAP.
What are yours set to?
I've got them both enabled as well.
hmmm not sure what the deal is then...strange.

I'm having similar issues as well. I would get an email notification, open gmail, read it, delete it. Few minutes later, it shows up as an unread email but does not appear in my inbox. If i go to my "all" email box, it's there. I also still see it on my desktop PC. It finally goes away when I delete it from my PC. Another major problem that has not been mentioned here is that I cannot send an email from my EVO using the gmail app. It just keeps sitting there in my outbox. Very frustrating.

I would try settings>applications>manage applications and clear cache and data. This will wipe the entire application and leave you with a clean slate.

There is an ADB method out there somewhere. Look for it. Google something like "xda android delete all sms adb"
However if you have locked messages and want to keep them (as I did last week), what I did was put my phone on charge overnight, airplane mode, and deleted them. It took about 45 minutes to delete 7k messages.

the adb/root explorer way would delete all of your messages, not just some.
It is done by deleting the file located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

Sounds like your doing anything you can. If its not too hard for you, wipe the entire ROM and set it back up. My normal setup time on a new ROM is max 5 minutes after flash. I'm thinking that might work.

Now that's odd. That is the exact way I delete all my messages every month to avoid the freezing you're talking about and it works for me....
You should try the following.......
-Boot into recovery
-Mount /data (if you're using Amon_RA 2.2.1, just go to the mounts section and mount data)
-Launch adb shell
-navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases by doing:
--cd data
--cd data
--cd com.android.providers.telephony
--cd databases
--rm mmssms.db
-navigate to /data/data/com.android.mms/cache by doing:
--cd ..
--cd ..
--cd com.android.mms
--cd cache
--rm *
-Reboot
Very strange that deleting and rebooting from within Android doesn't fix it. It does for me.
make sure you hit force delete (handcent - wipes both area's mms.apk and app)as that has better results. This is an android wipe issue and its embarrassing how long it takes. on my BB or my old iphone i could do it in seconds

Just delete the thread through the messaging app. Leave it sit for a while, up to an hour or so, and dont touch anything. Just let it do its thing. If you try to do anything else, it will FC and wont work. You just have to let it sit.

You're doing it. You can go from the main messages menu push and hold on a contact and click force delete, or menu and do a batch delete. The phone freezing is normal because it deletes them basically 1-3 at a time, so it take a little bit. So just be patient and try not to let them pile up next time . And speaking from experience here.

It will keep it from happening again. It deletes the oldest messages in a thread when it reaches a limit you set. Almost all messaging apps have it.
Anyone having (or had) an issue sending emails from gmail? Not sure when this started, but at first I could send but not forward or reply, now I can't even send. When I hit the send button it just greys out. i'm on decks ROM, I've cleared app data, reflashed gaps, removed and reinstalled from the market, fixed permissions, etc - nothing has helped. Will likely rebuild from scratch in the next day our two, but figured I would throw the question out there.
I had issues with the Gmail app as well - I could hit the send button but it would sit in my outbox forever and say "sending". I searched around and found a lot of other people with problems. My Gmail app wouldn't sync properly either. I would read an email or mark it as read, then when I synced it would still show unread.
My solution was to ditch the Gmail app and just use the default email app - you can set up your Gmail through that. You can also try a different version of the app, maybe an older one that worked for you.

Thanks for the response, for what its worth, I saw lots of posts with the symptoms you describe, everything on mine sync'd fine between gmail and phone except send. When I hit send the button would just grey out, wouldn't say sending or even move to the outbox, it just did nothing.
I rebuilt from scratch this morning and its working fine now, so who knows, I had tried everything I could think of and nothing else worked.

I did the same thing and my gmail worked perfectly afterwards.
That may have been a step I missed. I dont think I cleared cache when I removed the app, definitely rebooted before installing from the market. Well, thats one more thing to try if it happens again... which it likely wont now that I have a probable fix...
Because I googled almos everything now, I have to ask here.
Did anyone have a problem with constantly apearing question about which application would like you to use even when you checked "always" about hundred times before?
It seems to happen every time but some cases when you do something again and again. When you stop, wait a while or do something else and then do the same again, you will be prompted again which application to use.
it makes me CRAZY!!! It lasts about a month and I HATE MY PHONE because of this. Imagine this while driving! %^&*$
Anyone, please help me.
I'm running LeeDroid 3.3.3 GingerBread (stable one) and it seems not connected to the system coz it started much later than flashing occured. I suppose that one of installed apps could break something or even the bloody market (it often "stucks" while getting pages - reboot makes it working again - and I have no problems with network - nope).
Noone knows anything about it?
If you've installed a new app which does the same thing as an app you already had, you'll have to reset the defaults again (e.g. if you install Opera browser, you'll have to choose which browser to use the first time you click a link from any app (i.e. the first link you click from the browser, the first link you click from within an email, the first link you click from within Tweetdeck, the first link you click from the search tool, the first link you click from a text message, the first... you get the idea). But once you've selected 'Always' that default should persist until you clear defaults/uninstall the app/install another app that has the same functions.
However, a brief moment spent Googling has led to the suggestion that defaults only persist where the app is stored on the phone memory. Have you moved the apps in question to your SD card by any chance? Try moving them back and see if that helps.

Did not moved any of them, I like them in the phone memory as long, as it's only 55% full yet.
I suppose the problem is in storing the default. Something resets it or storage isn't available in time I'm making decision. But WHY? Or HOW? I cannot even guess, because I don't know specifics about storing default programs values... where or how they are stored.

I am not sure what file it is either but it sounds like the file gets corrupted so it reverts to a default. This can be caused from restoring system files, not doing a full wipe before flashing, a corrupted rom flash and backup, and like you said an app resetting it. So many things ciuld have gone wrong. I would try and start from a clean base. It may be a long road but it is the only 100% way to find it for sure.

How about additional info: application called "Home Switcher" which is supposed to know either default and possibilities, displays possibilities but claims that there is no default set at all!
I think that you have right that many things may be broken, but I'm almost sure that if it's somewhere in database file then only this database file needs a "reset". Why? Because I run this system daily and I'm almost sure that nothing in global is broken. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
So, any informations how default apps are stored on the system would help.
Great, no help at all. I suppose I will have to flash new rom to get rid of this another google sh*t.
