Unable to send gmail - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone having (or had) an issue sending emails from gmail? Not sure when this started, but at first I could send but not forward or reply, now I can't even send. When I hit the send button it just greys out. i'm on decks ROM, I've cleared app data, reflashed gaps, removed and reinstalled from the market, fixed permissions, etc - nothing has helped. Will likely rebuild from scratch in the next day our two, but figured I would throw the question out there.

I had issues with the Gmail app as well - I could hit the send button but it would sit in my outbox forever and say "sending". I searched around and found a lot of other people with problems. My Gmail app wouldn't sync properly either. I would read an email or mark it as read, then when I synced it would still show unread.
My solution was to ditch the Gmail app and just use the default email app - you can set up your Gmail through that. You can also try a different version of the app, maybe an older one that worked for you.

Thanks for the response, for what its worth, I saw lots of posts with the symptoms you describe, everything on mine sync'd fine between gmail and phone except send. When I hit send the button would just grey out, wouldn't say sending or even move to the outbox, it just did nothing.
I rebuilt from scratch this morning and its working fine now, so who knows, I had tried everything I could think of and nothing else worked.

See if this helps

See if that helps.

I did the same thing and my gmail worked perfectly afterwards.

That may have been a step I missed. I dont think I cleared cache when I removed the app, definitely rebooted before installing from the market. Well, thats one more thing to try if it happens again... which it likely wont now that I have a probable fix...

JM7 has a HUGE delay in sending out emails by Gmail app

hi guys, I flashed my phone to JM7 2 days ago. Everything works fine and the phone is a lot faster. BUT, when sending out emails by the Gmail app, it delays for up to a few hours... I tried WIFI, 3G, with/without attachment, to different address, all delays.
The samsung email app works fine, it sends out when you press send. (I assume that is from samsung which is called 'Email', the icon is an envelopewith a green @).
Anybody please help.
Thanks.
Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, then Menu/Filter/All.
Find Gmail and Gmail Storage, clear data/clear cache for both. Reboot the phone.
Then it'll need to resync with Gmail. Sending should work as normal after that.
This is usually only a problem if you've done a restore of some sort after updating the firmware. Sometimes changing SIM cards can also cause the same problem.
Working just fine here, I don't think this has something to do with JM7. I don't have any plausible theory to offer instead though, sorry.
JM7, GMail works just fine for me.

Gmail email delete problem

Lately, as I delete emails after I have read them within the Gmail app, they will show back up in the Inbox a little while later, sometimes as new/unread mail and sometimes showing as unread emails in the Inbox counter but not actually showing in the Inbox.
I've done several things to try and fix it:
- Went into Applications and cleared the caches (problem eventually comes back)
- Cleared the caches as well as uninstalled the Gmail updates then reinstalled from Market (problem eventually comes back)
I've searched through the forums and can't find where anyone has written about having this issue or resolving it. Has anyone here run into this and if so, how did you go about resolving it?
Thanks!
I have the same problem. Did you manage to solve this issue?
No "final" solution that fixes it...just have to keep doing the 2 steps I wrote about and the problem goes away for a while.
It happens maybe every 2 weeks and seems to pop up when I haven't gone into Gmail and emptied my trash from within the Gmail site for a while. Also seems to come back if I read through emails too quickly; maybe an issue with reading and then deleting on the phone before the phone can push back to the server that it's been read...just guessing.
Sorry...

Go to manage applications, find GMail then force stop it. clear cache and then clear data. Reopen GMail and set up the label sync etc how you like it and should be good. Hope this works for you, let me know.
Thanks ifly! Haven't tried the force stop part before so I just did it. I'll report back if anything comes back.

No problem at all. Hope it fixes it. I have this happen quite a bit after a nand backup or restore. When I do a nand restore i always wipe data/factory reset, then cache and davlik now and that seems to fix the problem. Not sure what is getting hung up in the data to cause this.
That's what's been bugging me as well...I do all the wipes when I do a nand restore or load a new rom but Gmail always seems to go back to this stranger behavior. I looked all over these forums (and others), hoping someone had at least seen the same thing but to no avail.
UPDATE: Started having the same issue with Gmail. Was honestly hoping the last suggestion would help...guess not.
Any other ideas...anyone?
Login to gmail from a browser.
Click settings and then "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
Check the settings there. I have both pop enabled and IMAP.
What are yours set to?
I've got them both enabled as well.
hmmm not sure what the deal is then...strange.

I'm having similar issues as well. I would get an email notification, open gmail, read it, delete it. Few minutes later, it shows up as an unread email but does not appear in my inbox. If i go to my "all" email box, it's there. I also still see it on my desktop PC. It finally goes away when I delete it from my PC. Another major problem that has not been mentioned here is that I cannot send an email from my EVO using the gmail app. It just keeps sitting there in my outbox. Very frustrating.
Here's my setup.

[Q] Gmail native app not pushing emails

Hey Guys,
Been experiencing gmail issue for the last couple of weeks.
Desire Z, now with the OTA update - used to have root, task managers, but did factory data reset which should remove those two, correct?
Upon boot, gmail functions well, and pushes my mail thru well, then after a while, i'd go into the gmail app and refresh, and a flurry of emails would come thru, some hours old.
I've done several factory resets, at the moment have weather sync every 3 hours, gmail, exchange (push), facebook for sense every 12 hours, and whatsapp.
Not sure how the native gmail app works, is it exchange? proprietary sync? imap idle? or thru the google cloud service?
been reading and people have cleared the gmail cache as a temp workaround, but I find this annoying, and its results are hit and miss.
I have tried on gmail app version 2.3 and 2.3.2 (latest)
any ideas?
PS - background data on, sync on, all on!
Native gmail app is pushhhhhh. It should be pushing down....
I have had troubles with syncing but I flash so muchstuff I'm never in the same place at the same time. So a wipe is always the fix everytime.
If I were you id quit on the weather (look up at the sky) and facebook. Eliminate the junk if you are trying to fix something substantially important. See what happens. Try a wipe they feel good actually.
vision
Thanks for the suggestion,
over the weekend (Xmas weekend) i wiped twice, both times i didnt install anything else, both times after a period of time, it would stop pushing.
I have no idea now hahaha
Ok, so i just did it again, factory reset, formatted SD card, completely clean phone.
installed only my gmail account and my work exchange account. nothing else.
my push gmail worked for about 1/2 hour, and stopped again.
The problem is with Gmail. They just updated the.app. go to the Market and download the new app before you.delete your whole phone or something.

Gmail Problem

Gmail wont let me send any emails whatsoever they just sit in my outbox. I thought it was a problem with the miui rom but I guess its not since I flashed back to cm 6.1.1 and still can't send anything ,
Any clue on why I can't send anything? I can still receive email just can't send anything.
Sent from my Pear phone.
I have the same problem....
it stopped syncing my outbox yesterday..
I'm on dhd port baadnwz 1.7c
when I was on stock froyo, this problem would sometimes appear, then I would rebbot my phone and it would sync...
now, I tried restoring to an earlier state(same rom), tried wiping dalvik, nothing...
it just won't send any emails...when I send them from my computer, it works, it doesn't only on my phone
very annoying stuff, driving me crazy, anyone have an idea what is going on??
tnx
well, I think I solved it
I uninstalled and again installed the gmail app from the market and it seems that it is working...
I'm not 100% satisfied because it is not a permanent solution, probably it will get stuck again..
but then again, it is working again
cheers
I think that what generally works in this case is going into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All
Choose Gmail, and then clear the cache. It will then re-sync gmail, and it should work.
You could also clear the data --- if clearing the cache doesn't work, but you would have to redo your gmail settings (e.g. Vibrate, ringtone, signature). Uninstall and install does this as well.

a friend of mine told me he had the same problem...and that it was because the inbox was overloaded...to many emails in it..
so I tried it, erased whole bunch of it and it's ok now...

Gmail app won't send email even after clearing data

I was having some problems with androids built in a2sd feature. Formatting and running a disk check seems to have fixed it.
This morning, I noticed my emails weren't getting marked read and emails weren't going out. I cleared data and cache in the gmail app. It marks emails as read but still won't send. I did a nandroid backup, still same problem. I installed fresh still had the problem...data wiped the app but no luck. Anything else I can try? I'm on myns warm two point two.

Had this issue a week ago; It was due to Gmail.apk residing in both /system/app and on my EXT3 partition (both were different versions)
i had this problem. i fan a fix permissions through rom manager. that didn't fix it (although it's a good idea to do it once in awhile) I went to settings > applications > manage applications > Gmail and I clicked Clear Data. started gmail back up, it had to re-log into gmail which only took a couple seconds. the email I was trying to send was no longer trying to send. I re-typed it, hit send and voila! it sent.
hope this helps.
I think it did have to do with 2 versions of gmail installing on the phone. That or there's something in my titanium backup that a2sd doesn't like. I just restored a few apps, no data, and that seems to have fixed it.

Had the same problem, clearing the data and re-signing in helped for me, too.
