I had to go to stock via odin because my backups weren't working(they always have before) after I flashed PACman rom and didn't like it. Once I got back to stock I tried restoring from my backups again and they don't get an error or anything but after I restart the phone is still completely clean without any of my data restored on to it. What do? Thanks
Edit: When it gets to restoring data it says .android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
Sounds like a corrupt backup, you may be SOL. I could be wrong though and someone else will chime in. Good luck.

It's not a corrupt backup. They've all worked previously.
Maybe you could try reinstalling the custom recovery in Odin.

I have tried that and I've tried both my backups from twrp and cwm
Are you sure that the backups were able to fully restore previously?

I am currently using ClockWorkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2. The last few times I have tried to backup a ROM, I get : Error finding an appropriate backup handler. This happens at the end of the backup after it looks like everything is okay. Does anybody know what this means and how it can be corrected? I don't like flashing new ROM's without doing a Nandroid Backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you!

Try Twrp recovery?
I should... I feel like I'm betraying CWM if I go to the other side. Is it the shizzle?

You need to take that avatar down and put one up of Jesse "shizzle" would never come out of Heisenberg's mouth. But yes it is better imo and lots of others. Has a better track record with this phone as well. Install it through goomanager from the play store.

I agree about TWRP. Boyh are great in their own right, but I prefer TWRP by a longshot! Even has a built in file manager!
Don't worry, we were all nervous our first times!!
Seriously though, only took a few min and I was hooked!
On your problem, does cwm see both int and ext sdcards?
If it comes to it, connect to pc over usb and adb pull both /system and /data. Also internal sd.
At least you'll have some sort of backup and then id suggest odin flashing stock firmware.
Good luck!

Whenever I try to make a backup through cwm its stops after about a minute and says canot gind a backup handler.

Backups were glitchy for me on cwm. I switched to TWRP and there's no looking back for me.
Im going to try twrp and see how it works. Thanks
I'm on cwm and backups have been fine. Why don't you redownload cwm and make sure you rwflash your appropriate recovery. I've NEVER had problems with cwm unless I messed with the folder or something.

Another vote to just switch to twrp. It is superior in every way.

Nothing against twrp but what's the point of troubleshooting if you're not going g to troubleshoot? If someone really likes a particular recovery why not help them get it working instead of making the decision for them?

To add another option; did you make your backup to .tar format? That was my issue when I first rooted my phone, couldn't restore anything, kinda panicked...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Alright so I'm on JB, rooted, Kt kernel and I wanted to factory reset my phone to see if battery life will improve because I've heard it works for some.
My question is, is it better to backup through Kies, reset, and restore from kies backup or will I risk bringing back theb (maybe) source of problems by doing it that way?
Or suck it up and restore from a TWRP or CWM backup. The only reason I prefer the Kies backup is because I hardly have enough memory left on my SD card to hold a Nandroid backup.
Thoughts?

I always hate dealing with kies but i get the issue of memory. That's why i like extra sd card space makes it easier for backups. I prefer cwm but its Ur call

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Do a nandroid on external SD that's where I do mine. Also use titanium you can back it up to dropbox , box or Google.
Sent from my Samsung-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Nandroid on external sd. As far as the pictures go. I have mine default save to the sd. I normally do not format the external sd during restores, backups or rom swaps. So the pictures always remain.
However, one time I left the the sd card installed when I was returning to stock via oden. It wiped both internal and external. So now when oden is involved I pull the external. Just to be sure.

So now to my understanding in TWRP the option to create image.zip is just creating a backup that I can flash right through Odin like a rom as opposed to the option to create a backup?
What can I do with that option to create a backup? Is that also an odin flashable zip?

Usually Odin doesn't flash zips but it creates a flash able zip through cwm
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Yea I meant CWM. Thats the recovery I had installed that allowed me to create the image.zip
So basically that just creates the exact state that my phone is in and allows me to flash it via cwm to get right back to that state.

okay, so If i make a nandroid backup I know what things it saves.
I just wanted to make sure, when it restores applications, does it restore the downloaded ones from the android store? like temple run and such?
ALSO when i perform a restore, Does it automatically flash the old rom with data or must I first flash the rom of the backup and then preform the restore?
THANKS
It restores your phone to the exact same way it was when you made the backup. All you have to do is reboot after restoring and it will be exactly the same as before the backup.

Hi all, just have a quick question regarding my nandroid backup and restore. Every time I try to restore a nandroid backup of my phone, mostly everything works, however, Amazon App Store will stop allowing me to download any apps at all saying that there is a problem with the connection to the internet error (with 3g or wifi) and my swiftkey will popup in the notification drawer saying that there aren't anymore language packs and when trying to install the language packs back on, they don't download. either. WEIRD thing is, the Play Store still works properly. Only those two apps have issues. Any idea what is wrong with my nandroid backup or restore?
Phone Config:
Galaxy S 4 M919V (Wind Mobile)
Wind Stock 4.4.2 VLUFNB5 Factory Image/Kernel
Rooted with CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.tar
Recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-jfltecan
Knox counter tripped 0x1
Anyone see a problem with my config?
Troubleshooting done already
Changed recovery to philz_touch_6.26.6-jflte.tar, tried backup and restore... SAME problem.
Tried Uninstalling and Re-installing apps (with TiBu and Settings App Manager)... still same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try wiping delvik and cache in recovery then reboot. Or you can also try to clear data and cache in those 2 apps and reboot.

Could it be possible that my recoveries aren't completely compatible with my stock firmware? Possibly, a bad flash of recovery? or could it be that the bootloader is screwing something up since the knox bit is tripped? Even when trying to use skipsoft unified android toolkit for my s4, there are backup options that are disabled...
I'd like to get to the bottom of this because not having a proper backup of my system is kicking my ocd's a$$

Also attempted that and the same issue. Another thing is, Swiftkey is the actual paid version from app store, so the possibility of having a corrupt apk is slim to none.
Could it possibly be a problem with those specific apps (swiftkey and amazon app store) in which they dont nandroid backup properly or with these custom recoveries that dont backup everything needed for those 2 apps?

I was just thinking...When you changed from TWRP to Philz, did you use Philz to recover your TWRP backup? From my understanding it isnt possible to use a different recovery to restore a backup.

Try deleting your google account and re-installing it.
system/accounts/google tap on your account and remove it.
turn off and do a bat pull
wait abt a min and power up and go to the google account and install selecting existing account and see if the play store will work for you.
good Luck!

If you changed to Philz while you were already having the issue with the apps and turned around and made a backup, that backup would still have the issues. Lol. Try deleting the apk files and re download the apk

Well, I ended up finding that CWM_6.0.4.7_Touch_GT-I9505 worked out for me using i9505 AOSP Pre-Release from Broodplank. No problems with backup or restore most of the time. I did encounter Swiftkey having the no languages installed problem, but it manages to install the languages again without error, so all is good.
