[q] nandroid backup question! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

okay, so If i make a nandroid backup I know what things it saves.
I just wanted to make sure, when it restores applications, does it restore the downloaded ones from the android store? like temple run and such?
ALSO when i perform a restore, Does it automatically flash the old rom with data or must I first flash the rom of the backup and then preform the restore?
THANKS

It restores your phone to the exact same way it was when you made the backup. All you have to do is reboot after restoring and it will be exactly the same as before the backup.

Since when does CWM not restore kernel? Lol. If it didn't restore the kernel, going from TW to AOSP (or vice versa) wouldn't boot

Any stock kernel?

I'd just make a cwm backup of your stock rom. Then go back and fourth. Its what I do without any issues at all. I just have to clear my play store data as I have market problems after but that's it.

When you restore from the nandroid backup you'll get the kernel you had before. So you'll have the stock kernel again when you restore

Does CWM backup, backs up efs?

Im currently using Philz recovery and while doing a periodic backup, i think i saw efs while data was being backed up. So does the nandroid backup , backs up the device's efs?
I know for sure twrp does. So i puppose cwm should too.
Hope it helps.

Thanx for the reply.
One more question I had . Is it possible to restore someone else CWM backup?
Yes it is. But if it really backs up efs. That is totally not recommended.
You can restore
System, data, cache, boot, and recovery.
Those are safe.
But if you want his apps for example then just data is enough.

Before restoring a backup,CWM checks for md5 hash. What is that?
It is fir the integrity of the backup.
In case it is corrupted.

So there will be no conflict with md5 hash if I restore someone else backup?
And a silly question, how would the integrity of the backup deteriorate? :?
It can break during transfer an other instances. That is why it checks it.

Cannot restore back up trwp / bootloops

I have never had a problem restoring anything, I just backed up a new task ROM, I also backed up a new illusion ROM. I will go to restore from backup and it just boot loops on either 1. Anything prior to these latest releases and backups will restore but 2 separate ROM's with the latest releases will not restore from backup they both stay in boot loop. Totally clueless, I have formatted wiped you name it it will only restore a backup from a ROM o backup on Jan 4th. Only happening newer released backed up ROMs.

Try flashing a different kernel.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Did you change from clockwork mod to Team Win recovery, or visa versa? The two aren't compatible and might cause that.
No same as I always do...I flashed ktoonez kernel 1.10

It really sucks, I restored a back up from 1/4 just fine, but as soon as I download and install the latest update to that Rom day illusion, and save it as a new back up, no go on restore

Installing Linaro 10.2

I know this shouldn't necessarily be in this section but I've already PM'd someone and asked on the original thread for help and have gotten no response yet. I understand people may be busy though too. At any rate, can anyone give and exact instructions on how to flash this ROM? They're not in the ROMs OP so...yeah, I'm lost.

I would do a factory reset in TWRP then go to advanced and wipe system. Flash ROM, flash gapps wipe cache and dalvik one last time the reboot.

Use same fresh install method listed in any of my rom threads... I'm not sure about restoring messages I never do it but system data is usually a no no if you have issues with titanium download super su update your binary with the recovery method then go into titanium preferences and click the back up folder location option and change it from sdcard0 to legacy it will ask you if you want to move your back ups say yes then restart titanium and world will be right again

Did u factory reset in recovery at least twice ? Also it may not hurt to wipe everything twice EXCEPT INTERNAL STORAGE.... Then reinstall ROM and gapps

Yup - MyBackUp Pro OR Titanium Backup for data - Or a CWM backup of everything.
Yes it is. Referred to as a Nandroid. Reboot into your custom recovery CWM or TWRP, select back up, the destination of the back up to internal or external and run it. Hope that helps.

What he said about nandroids. And I like to use Titanium Backup PRO to backup my apps and data. Also, there are many SMS backup apps that don't need root.
