It seems I bricked my Xperia Play. It was working fine one day when it shut down due to low battery and wouldn't boot back up. I'm out of warranty, so tinkering around in the hardware is doable, I just don't have the tools at the moment. Anyways, with the battery in when I hold down the power button it vibrates roughly every two and a half seconds, but the screen stays off and the notification light stays off. Yesterday I was trying to make it boot, and I believe when it was connected to a PC, Windows defects it then it disappears when I hold down the power button, as well as the notification led blinks red/orange a couple times. Unfortunately I had to cut my troubleshooting time short(Rush concert ftw), so I was unable to do much research. However, I did a little and all the things that I found said that it was infact a hardware issue that requires manufacturer fix. Seeing how that's not possible I came Here hoping that one of the geniuses at XDA could help me. Help?
For the record its not my phone anymore, I gave it to my sister and she had about a day of use before it broke, and before they I let my friend borrow it so I don't know what she did with it, but she's fairly trustable, so I don't think it was something she did.
For those wondering my current phone is a broken Galaxy Nexus. Don't worry, I'm ordering a replacement tomorrow,

To sum it all up: Power button is failing.
Constant power cycles/boot loops. Extremely touchy. still makes "click" noise, and still physically functions, pressing and depressing.
Booting into recovery only works for a lil bit because the power button is "soo touchY'
and yes, theres apps that reassigns power button function to say...the volume button. Using that option for now.
I watched a video on screen replacement for the glide (best way to get to power button?), and attempted to unscrew a couple screws to see if i can get to the button and see if any physical debris is causing the issues, but got nervous and stopped because I've never taken the glide apart like that before.
After doing research, i see other galaxy and samsung phones have had issues, and normal wear and tear, its gonna happen..I see replacement buttons for similar devices on ebay/amazon for about $10-$20.
anyone got experience with this? any advice would be grand.
warranty is expired, and the phone is rooted and all that jazz.

These boot cycles are killing me.
May end up buying a seller refurb on ebay real quick.

Phone was on charger overnight, and now the phone doesn't recognize the sim card anymore. Have no idea why.
I'm gonna cut my losses. I'm gonna buy a seller refurb on ebay today. Maybe sell this one for parts. Wifi still works and is in overall great shape and condition.
I wish I could fiqure out why these hardware issues were happening...

Just remember it sells on new egg for 250$ so don't pay more on eBay then that.
Well, now this phone is a very expensive gps/camera running AOKP.
I'd like to sell this for parts. Thought I would try here before listing on ebay/amazon.
I can reflash to stock if needed. I just don't have the experience of replacing some of the hardware, but Im sure someone does.
As of now, SIM cards wont work in it, and about half the time you hit the power button, it goes into a boot cycle for about 10-15 minutes. will go back into boot cycle if power button is pushed "in" the wrong way.

My G2 might be dead. It won't boot up. When I press the power button it vibrates three times then blinks an orange light on and off continuously. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery. When I hold volume down and power it vibrates about five times then has a green light for a little bit. Either way nothing shows up on the screen. It was doing this same thing a few weeks ago, I messed with it a little bit and it worked fine. Adb will recognize the phone only if it has the blinking orange light. I have tried charging it, of course. When charging it has a solid orange light until full, then it's green; just like normal. I wasn't doing anything unusual when it started (flashing a rom, messing with system files, etc.) it just happened out of nowhere. My rom is LewaOS. The first time it happened I think I was using JoyOS. I don't think it is a faulty battery, because I tried swapping batteries with my brother's MyTouch 3G Slide and the issue was the same. (I know they don't have the same battery, but I held the battery in at an angle so the contacts would meet). Has this happened to anyone else? I would really like to get this figured out, because I don't have enough money for a new phone and the old school Nokia I am using for the time being is sort of a pain.
Does this mean it is bricked?
What happens when you plug it in to PC? Does windows auto search for a driver called qusbdownload or something like that?

If it is "on" when I plug it in Windows tries a driver called Qualcomm Technologies something or other then says the driver failed.
Then chances are its bricked, this means the phone is trying to get into an HTC download mode that no one has gotten to work with the vision to the best of my knowledge. There has been work done on other phones (the debricking project) that makes use of this mode to unbrick your phone, but nothing for this phone
You can try to leave out the battery for a week (fully charge battery first) and the test it, some say this works and it did work for me on a similar phone in a similar circumstance or you could get someone to JTAG it back to life.
Also I have read that some people have been able to open the phone and clean it thoroughly, reassemble and then it works. I've opened these phones many times and don't know what components need cleaning but you can enter this mode holding the volume down button while plugging phone into PC, so maybe the volume rocker or USB needs cleaning

If your looking for a cheap fix you can often find a used cracked screen broken g2 on ebay for under 40$ and its easy to swap logicboards. if you really want a qwerty phone there are few to choose from and this is still one of the top choices.
I own many qwertys, htc g1, g2, mytouch 4g slide, samsung sidekick 4g, just bought a samsung relay and really my favorite to this day is still the htc vision.
my advice if you cant get yours working, consider swapping logicboards, take about 10 minuets and LOOK HERE cant promise anything of course but sounds like a perfect phone to swap logicboards and only costs 24$

I guess this is my farewell to the G2 and Desire Z forums. You guys have been great. I thought about buying a Vision with good internals and swapping them, but in the end I decided it was time to try something different. I've had this phone for a while. Ideally, the HTC One (M7) would be the successor of my G2, but it just doesn't work with my tiny budget. My second choice would have been a HD2, but, again, I don't have enough money (that's how small the budget is). Today I ordered a Motorola Milestone 3 for $49 on ebay, so when it arrives I'll hopefully be able to get my SIM to work in it. I thought I would never buy a non-HTC phone again (never a Samsung, not even once). Oh, well. Who know, maybe someday my desolate G2 will get jealous of the Milestone and decide to boot up again.
Just got my Note 10.1 2014 and was so excited to play with it and guess what? The screen is dead. I can hear it boot up and everything even the capacitive menu and back buttons make their annoying "water drop" noises and light up. Anyone know something I can do about this? I've already ordered a replacement from Amazon but would like to try and fix it meanwhile (I put 1 day shipping for a reason...). I'm really impressed with Samsung's quality control. Tinted screens, loose speaker grills, unresponsive tablets, and now one that has a screen that doesn't even work out of the box. Thanks Samsung!

This happened to me last night. My screen did eventually work, and it might've been related to it being charged. I still sent mine back to Amazon today, however.

Thanks for the link. I don't know if I want to open up the back cover and risk breaking anything as of now because I only got it like an hour ago, but I'm going to try charging it fully to see if it works later. That really sucks that they don't have it in stock anymore and Samsung should really be getting a lot of **** for this. Nobody wants to spend 500-600 dollars on a tablet and have it not work after a week let alone the first hour. I have been thinking about the iPad Air, but I like the S-Pen so much I don't know what to do. Sigh, first world problems. :crying:

Well, the wonderful thing (sarcasm) is that it was back in-stock this morning, but my RMA was already set up for a return and I was sending a case back too. I could probably tell Amazon to switch it back but at this point I'd rather just see this through and figure out where to go from there.
In my case I didn't remove the back. What I did initially was just plug it into the charger. At first it didn't even turn on then, but after a little bit the backlight did turn on in charging mode. Then it would work on the initial boot but not come on after it first turned off, and then after a while that ended and it just worked normally. FWIW, my battery was at 0 or 1% when I got it and around 15% when it started working completely correct, so it possibly is related to the charge level.

Charged it to 100% and didn't work. Oh well, my replacement will be here tomorrow. I'm pretty sure they forgot to connect the display connector or something. I can take screenshots and look at the screenshots through my computer with the tablet connected and even navigate through the menus and things. Don't know how quality control missed the tablet that didn't even have a connected display. Thanks for the help and good luck on deciding on a new tablet.
Mine arrived on Tuesday with a dead screen as well. And I had ordered mine from Samsung. Horrible customer service BTW.

A while back i used to "try" to root stuff. I sucked at it BAD. Anyway, I have a Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5110) that I had rooted to a certain point (very superficial) and I just kept it the way it was, that way I could use Multi-window for any app. This morning I unplug my tab from the charger only to be disappointed that it will not turn on. Ive tried different power outlets, different cables, different base chargers, even the whole "power+vol_up+home" thing... nothing. I never updated the tab when Kitkat came through the pipeline. Im freaking out that a new major update automatically happened overnight or something. Im sorry to trouble you all, but does anyone have suggestions? Since it's rooted I can't take it to Samsung or Best Buy. Honestly if I could just get it back to stock, that would be awesome, but im more concerned about getting it to simply turn on. Any Ideas?
If your device is rooted you won't get an OTA update so that could not be the problem. You can try to unplug battery (mus open the device)"and see what happened. Maybe your battery is faulty or someting else.
K... I appreciate it Ill take a look. But, lets say I actually open it (without making things worse), how do I determine if the battery is in fact faulty? If it is, can I get a replacement? preferably an official samsung one.

The problem with this device is you cannot pull out the battery easily. Maybe after that steps it boots up again.
Battery removal wasn't bad... now I'm just waiting for a new one (ordered on ebay, crossing fingers hoping it was legit). What did you mean "after that steps it boots up agin."? Will the tablet boot up without the battery if it's plugged in or something?

Wow, that suck. sorry for you man. For now, try to plug the tablet to a computer and while device manager opened and see if there is change. If the change say "qhsusb" or something along that line and not your model number . . . changing battery wont do anything because it's already hard bricked. if not, finger cross.

No. But sometimes after this step and reconnecting the battery the device boots up. Also a battery calibration is done.
I tried plugging in the tablet to the computer with the old battery and then without any battery. Neither one prompted anything in the device manager. Today I got the new battery (assuming its legit and in good condition) in the mail. I plugged it in, and nothing. Plugged the tablet with the new battery to the wall charger, nothing. Plugged the tablet with the new battery to the computer while running device manager, nothing.
I'm going assume that the new battery is dead and let it stay connected to the wall charger for 8+ hrs, and see if there are any changes.
I just really don't understand what the deal is and why this would randomly happen. Ive never had problems with the firmware or anything. I have felt like there was an issue with the battery being that it doesn't seem to be keeping much of a charge... but for it to just Hard Brick like this seems so out of the blue. Can anyone provide me with additional suggestions please?

Is there any way to test if the batteries are food? That way I can at least determine if the tablet is in fact hard bricked or just bad batteries.
Might not be what you want to hear, but if different cables, chargers and batteries don't work, then maybe there was a power surge overnight while the device was plugged into the wall that took out the device (I once lost a computer that way and now I only use surge suppressors (note that not all power bars are proper surge protectors! See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector ) that are UL 1449 certified with a low clamping voltage and high energy absorption rating as a minimum; the fancier ones can even tell you if your wall outlet has a grounding problem). Or your tablet's USB port is broken, but that doesn't make sense based on what you've said thus far. Or you're just super-unlucky and all of your replacement parts are also faulty (it could happen). Either way, I've got my fingers crossed for you!
In the meantime, a multimeter would be able to tell if the batteries hold a charge, and whether or not power flows to the device when the battery is attached or the device is plugged into the wall or computer.
Just make sure you read up on how to use one first so you don't accidentally electrocute yourself:

Ill definitely be looking into this option in depth tomorrow, and deeply appreciate it. At least it's something. T_T I don't want my tablet going to electro grave. This sucks so bad. This has been a month from hell
First my printer decides its time to start printing crooked over a couple of months, getting so bad that it jams up a few weeks ago, requiring me to get a new printer, which has been a fiasco in and of itself that still hasnt been resolved. Ive gone through 4 printers in one week, all of them different model printers, all from HP, and each and every one of them defective.
Then my laptops video card tweaks out because of installing Splashtop Stream, which starts a domino effect requiring me to do a factory reset on the laptop.
Then my Tablet just decides to kill over.
Then my Microsoft Arc mouse decides it doesn't the want to wheel to work requiring me to purchase a new one, and when I receive it, the cover for the battery compartment is missing and the wheel click is defective. It took 2 and a half weeks to resolve
Then I get bronchitis.
all in less than a month.
Alright, ya... it's dead. Oh well. Here's me trying to make the most of it: are there any places that buy bricked tabs? I figure the parts have to have some sort of salvage value.... maybe.
You can't go to a Samsung service shop? They might not fix it under warranty, but I assume they'll have a look at it and give you an estimation? I feel for you, we all have had these awful weeks... I soft bricked my pad, my computer started to play up, my other computer decided it wanted to die after years of hard work and not skipping a beat, my son got the flu, the missus was on her monthly(grumpy wife..take cover), and when I took a break from it all on the toilet I found that we had run out of paper! To make matters worse, my favorite football team lost from a second division team.. This all happened in one single day! So chin up, it might take a week, but when all it's fixed again you'll experience deep appreciation for the things you have taken for granted.... (xda fixed my tablet, time fixed my wife)

Im very very doubtful that Samsung will help. I have two more... ideas, before I go to Samsung. Non-invasive of coarse, wouldn't want to make matters worse.
K, So first off I took the tablet with extra battery to a tech place in the area that said the batteries are fine, but when they put a multimeter to the motherboard nothing came back. Basically its dead according to them. There's one more shop in the area I want to get a second opinion from. Next, does anyone know anything about an app called "Splashtop Stream"? I'm a fond user of Splashtop to control/view my computer straight my tablet, but when I installed "Splashtop Stream" to use the tablet as an extended screen (not just a cloned second screen), my tablet and both computers I tried it with did NOT like it. I immediately uninstalled it, but it dawned on me that it was just a matter of days later that my Tablet died. I hate to grasp at straws, but if an app like that is too resource intensive, I'm okay with seeing a connection that it fried my tablet. I can't just ask Splashtop "Hey, does your app fry motherboards", so I need a way of researching legitimate known problems. I can't afford a $400 tablet right now.
The reason why I'm using Samsung as a last resort is because it's outside my warranty time, and the moment they know that I did even the simple fast-mod on it, they'll slap it down and won't help. There no custom boot or Roms on it.
With all this said, any suggestions anyone?

I randomly bumped here and I'm no expert, but if your tablet's motherboard is indeed dead, I believe there is absolutely no way they can tell that the device got rooted at some point. You did not "hard brick" it, that's a whole other thing, or at least so I've learned in my not-very-long experience. "Hard brick" should be the result of flashing a kernel made some other device, which definitely is not your case. Moreover, that does not kill the motherboard, it just makes anything unbootable: it's a software problem, so it can actually be detected. You had a hardware failure that most likely completely wiped any proof that you have ever modified your device, so the only problem that you might have, I think, is them telling you that they take no responsibility for what your power outlet has done to the device, but they shouldn't be able to detect any modification that you have made. In my opinion technical support is worth trying.

Just thought Id let everyone know that I managed to get Samsung to compromise on the matter since the Tablet is only 5 months past warranty (1yr 5mnths since purchase). So, not much longer and hopefully Ill have a tablet that works yet again.
