It seems I bricked my Xperia Play. It was working fine one day when it shut down due to low battery and wouldn't boot back up. I'm out of warranty, so tinkering around in the hardware is doable, I just don't have the tools at the moment. Anyways, with the battery in when I hold down the power button it vibrates roughly every two and a half seconds, but the screen stays off and the notification light stays off. Yesterday I was trying to make it boot, and I believe when it was connected to a PC, Windows defects it then it disappears when I hold down the power button, as well as the notification led blinks red/orange a couple times. Unfortunately I had to cut my troubleshooting time short(Rush concert ftw), so I was unable to do much research. However, I did a little and all the things that I found said that it was infact a hardware issue that requires manufacturer fix. Seeing how that's not possible I came Here hoping that one of the geniuses at XDA could help me. Help?
For the record its not my phone anymore, I gave it to my sister and she had about a day of use before it broke, and before they I let my friend borrow it so I don't know what she did with it, but she's fairly trustable, so I don't think it was something she did.
For those wondering my current phone is a broken Galaxy Nexus. Don't worry, I'm ordering a replacement tomorrow,

I just purchased an A100 and was wondering if anyone else has the same problems I am having. Also any ideas would be appreciated.
I can't wake the tablet when it goes to standby> I press the power button and nothing happens. If I hold the power button long enough it will reboot. The other issue is with the wifi. At home it works ok, but at work it is another matter. It sees and can connect to the router just fine. When I try to go to the internet it tells me that there is no internet connection. I noticed that there was a little arrow in the wifi icon when this happens. I tried a reset to factory defaults, but no go. The sleep problem is unchanged, and now it will not connect to the work router at all.

I had the sleep problem wen I first got it but now its gone. But never had wifi issues. Just exchange for a new one.
I have the same standby problem. On top of that I noticed that there are some glitches.
When the unit is fully off and I try to turn it on by pressing the power button down for a couple seconds the blue light turns on but no vibration and nothing shows on the screen. I have hold the power button down til the blue light turns off then press it again and hold it down until it vibrates and thats when it turns on. I also tried grabbing the stock rom (made sure it was decrypted and put on both the root of the internal and external sd) and tried to recover it but all I get is a android exclamation mark no matter what I do.
Sometimes you just need to give it sometime to wake up... Because if you press the power button multiple times, it would not be responsive!

How long? Does your screen stay black while you are waiting?
yes. If it is unresponsive when pushing the power button (but you know the device is on), just wait for 30 seconds and try pushing the power button again.
On mine after i hit the power button the screen wont turn on for good 3 seconds. If I press the power again before that 3 seconds I essentially turn it back off so the screen never turns on. Till I press it again and wait 3 seconds for it to visually turn on.
Well, I took it back for an exchage and Microcenter was out of stock. I got a refund and headed over to Best Buy. Not much luck there, they are sold out in all stores, and online.
Have you tried fry's.com or gamestop.com?

I tried the Kindle Fire, and I did not care for it. The screen did not always respond to touches and I do not like the carousel. I also did like the lack of buttons on it, and it was heavy compared to other 7" tablets. I took it back and started looking for another tablet. I found the A100 in Walmart today and bought it. This one works a lot better than the first one, it wakes up from standby just fine. These Acer tabs(A100 and A500) are selling out everywhere it seems. I think they are priced right and are a very good value.

Battery Indicator gets stuck...
Does anyone else have a problem with the Battery Indicator freezing while charging. It happens every time I plug in. Earlier today I plugged in at 11% an hour later the battery indicator (both on the lock screen and the settings popup) said 11%. As soon as I unplugged it changed to 76%. When I plugged in an let it charge again it stuck at 76%.
Anyone else have this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
The only things I changed system wise is: I froze Acer Content Folders, Acer Registration, AUPEO!, clear.fi, Facebook Web, and MusicA. And thats it!
I am having the same issue with my a100 not waking up. I sent it to Acer and they reloaded android, but the issue still exists...even after a factory reset with no apps installed other than stock.
The battery life was utter crap when I got this...but after 4 charge cycles...its much better.

Im not having the wake up issue but I am having a wifi issue. Wifi kinda works some of the time. The problem is it just cant stay connected for very long. It really sucks especially when im downloading a big file. Ivw tried wifi lock but it still loses signal. I usually just use the acer when im in my bedroom and our router is about 15 feet away. its very frustrating but dont know what else to do. also i cant believe how bad the battery life is! its not to big of a problem since i dont plan on taking it out of the house but man, why would acer make the battery smaller than most new cellphones?

Hey I'm having a similar problem. I plug my acer a100 in and nothing it said not charging in screen or orange light I tried 3 different. Chargers and still nothing it charges if I press down lit bit but I have to stay there and hold it so I sent it to Acer and the problem was the main board was broken and they replaced it I got my tablet back and still wont work properly. What is wrong anyone have this problem!!

Never had that problem but i had a hard brick. i like the tablet but if you just bought it get an extended warranty. there is an issue with the main board
I have a friend's bone stock incredible 2 and it "totally quit working" on him. "Wen't black and never came back to life."
It has been dropped in a toilet before (clean... haha! Or so he says...) but he pulled the battery as quickly as he could, let it dry out for a few days, and said it worked fine for quite a long time after that. And then it just "quit" one day.
He has a replacement but he says he would like to get his Incredible back.
I told him I would see if there was anything I could do since I'm the "tech guy" around our group of friends.
I plugged in the phone and it does take a charge. After the light turned green indicating full charge, I unplugged the phone and tried to turn it on...
NOTHING.
I read how to boot into fast boot mode and found that you hold the volume down + power buttons at the same time.
When I do this, the phone flashes, very briefly, the fastboot menu screen and then goes black.
If I continue to hold the volume down + power buttons, the fastboot screen will briefly flash about every three seconds.
It flashes so quick that I cannot read any of the options but can see the word flashboot outlined in blue.
Does anybody have any suggestions that I should try before telling my buddy his phone is forever dead?
Much appreciation in advance!!!
That all sounds like bad hardware buddy, maybe replace the digitizer? Wild shot in the dark from me

I was thinking it was probably hardware related myself. As for the digitizer... Maybe? Who knows? Maybe there'e more to "it just quit working" than my friend is telling me? It would be fairly inexpensive and somewhat easy fix if it were the digitizer. I have replaced digitizers on multiple types of devices.
I'll probably just look up the price of one on eBay and let my buddy know how much they are with a disclaimer that there is absolutely no guarantee that a new digitizer will fix the problem.
Thanks
So my a100 battery was dead, so I put it on the charger. After a short time I went to turn it on, and it wouldn't come on. The blue light comes on the power button, and if I hold the button down the home button eventually lights up. But it will not boot no matter what I do. Is it dead? Why? What would Acer charge me to fix it? It's just a little over a year since I bought it.

Yeah running these down to dead likely will brick it, new battery or board will be needed. Acer will probably charge more then a new refurb will cost. Not sure why but it does happen occasionally.

Well, that's not good news... I just opened the forum to search for this exact problem. Thanks though, I won't waste any more time or energy with it.
This happens to the Xoom too. Try this, might not help but...
Plug in the USB from the PC. Then Plug in the power adapter. Look for the Orange glow of the power button. If you don't see it, don't panic. Try and hold down the vol. Up and then power. (Recovery) It might just kick on. If that fails, Unplug USB, Unplug power, Then Plug power in, try it again. If that didn't work, repeat a few more times and let it sit plugged in. Rinse Lather Repeat.
A100 Brick
Same thing happened to mine after 13 months. Acer told me $199 for service. I said, "With all due respect, why wouldn't I buy a Nexus 7 instead?" He said he would pass my comments on to the powers that be. They haven't called me back just yet.
update
Well, I got lucky I guess. Turns out the warranty wasn't quite expired yet after all. It had less than a month on it, but I sent it in and they say they fixed it. It's on the way back now. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it. I came within a few weeks of being with a useless piece of Acer after one year and $270. Doesn't seem like a very good investment. Maybe I would be better not gambling with another crash, and sell it and get something newer. Are the newer tablets such as the Nexus 7 or Samsung more reliable?

Yes, they are.
Keep in mind Acer built the first full feature powerful tablet in a 7" form, everything else in the class had half the features and power. To do it for the price point they had to cut some corners, namely the LCD panel, battery and gambling on a buggy emmc. Sadly the they chose an emmc that isn't reliable at all. My advice is get it repaired and sell it for anything other then an a1xx device. I went against my better judgement and got an Acer product and I was, of course, disappointed in it, as always, and never again with so many options available now for the same money the a100 was new.

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with my Telus Samsung Galaxy S2x. I was coming home from work on Wednesday and was listening to music at the time. I turned on my phone, went to text messages, the phone makes a really harsh and nasty noise (the music cutting out) and the phone shuts off. I instantly took out the battery and turned the phone back on again. It got to the boot screen and then rebooted itself and started to vibrate in 2 second intervals on a black screen.
I did some research and it seems like it could be a power button issue? The phone thinks you're turning it off and on again in an infinite loop. At first, I thought it was a battery problem (it still can be without testing a new battery) but I took out the battery and tried turning it on with just the power from the wall, and the same thing happened again. I have however, been able to get into Recovery/Download mode for about 2-3 seconds before it reboots and vibrates. There has also been times where I got as far as into the OS on the lock screen before it rebooted. For the most part it's usually gives up on the boot screen. I should probably note that I'm not a Telus customer, I bought the phone through a friend that worked there and used it on Wind.
My phone is rooted and I have Slimbean 3.0 installed on it - if that helps at all. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem as I do and what they did to fix it. I'm not too too concerned about the phone (in terms of getting it refurbished). It's the data on the phone that I need to recover if getting it refurbished is my last option. That being said, I am running out of options and any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys!
It is indeed a sticky power button issue. You can get it replaced or u can try to unstick it urself. Don't know where or how much. Try a needle to clean around the outside of the button. Try to rub alcohol to dissolve residue. Try to leave the phone off and water protected while in the freezer for 20-30 minutes and hope for shrinkage that'll loosen the power button. Weird but I heard it worked for someone.

Just had the same problem a couple days ago. Fixed it myself You can try everything what he ^ said. Good tips! Just make sure you know what you're doing before you open it. (I didn't though, just watched a youtube video of screenr eplacement in 270p and started )

My G2 might be dead. It won't boot up. When I press the power button it vibrates three times then blinks an orange light on and off continuously. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery. When I hold volume down and power it vibrates about five times then has a green light for a little bit. Either way nothing shows up on the screen. It was doing this same thing a few weeks ago, I messed with it a little bit and it worked fine. Adb will recognize the phone only if it has the blinking orange light. I have tried charging it, of course. When charging it has a solid orange light until full, then it's green; just like normal. I wasn't doing anything unusual when it started (flashing a rom, messing with system files, etc.) it just happened out of nowhere. My rom is LewaOS. The first time it happened I think I was using JoyOS. I don't think it is a faulty battery, because I tried swapping batteries with my brother's MyTouch 3G Slide and the issue was the same. (I know they don't have the same battery, but I held the battery in at an angle so the contacts would meet). Has this happened to anyone else? I would really like to get this figured out, because I don't have enough money for a new phone and the old school Nokia I am using for the time being is sort of a pain.
Does this mean it is bricked?
What happens when you plug it in to PC? Does windows auto search for a driver called qusbdownload or something like that?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
If it is "on" when I plug it in Windows tries a driver called Qualcomm Technologies something or other then says the driver failed.
Then chances are its bricked, this means the phone is trying to get into an HTC download mode that no one has gotten to work with the vision to the best of my knowledge. There has been work done on other phones (the debricking project) that makes use of this mode to unbrick your phone, but nothing for this phone
You can try to leave out the battery for a week (fully charge battery first) and the test it, some say this works and it did work for me on a similar phone in a similar circumstance or you could get someone to JTAG it back to life.
Also I have read that some people have been able to open the phone and clean it thoroughly, reassemble and then it works. I've opened these phones many times and don't know what components need cleaning but you can enter this mode holding the volume down button while plugging phone into PC, so maybe the volume rocker or USB needs cleaning
Just some thoughts, best of luck to you!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Even though you're basically informing me that I have a bricked phone, I'll hit the thanks button for your knowledge. I will try some of what you said, then probably commence the search for a phone I can afford.
haha, i dont require thanks, i help for the sake of helping! but thanks!
HERE IS A LINK to more info about the vision, including brick advice and teardowns of your phone.
If your looking for a cheap fix you can often find a used cracked screen broken g2 on ebay for under 40$ and its easy to swap logicboards. if you really want a qwerty phone there are few to choose from and this is still one of the top choices.
I own many qwertys, htc g1, g2, mytouch 4g slide, samsung sidekick 4g, just bought a samsung relay and really my favorite to this day is still the htc vision.
my advice if you cant get yours working, consider swapping logicboards, take about 10 minuets and LOOK HERE cant promise anything of course but sounds like a perfect phone to swap logicboards and only costs 24$
best of luck!
Goodbye
I guess this is my farewell to the G2 and Desire Z forums. You guys have been great. I thought about buying a Vision with good internals and swapping them, but in the end I decided it was time to try something different. I've had this phone for a while. Ideally, the HTC One (M7) would be the successor of my G2, but it just doesn't work with my tiny budget. My second choice would have been a HD2, but, again, I don't have enough money (that's how small the budget is). Today I ordered a Motorola Milestone 3 for $49 on ebay, so when it arrives I'll hopefully be able to get my SIM to work in it. I thought I would never buy a non-HTC phone again (never a Samsung, not even once). Oh, well. Who know, maybe someday my desolate G2 will get jealous of the Milestone and decide to boot up again.
