Hi:
this is some questions that i searched so much without answer!!
1- We know that one of the mothod for root , is to flash custom kernel that have auto rooted before.
So if that was right , when we flash a stock kernel by flashtool , the recovery and the root must gone is that right?
If you said that is righ i will say that some of the other methods of root is to flash old kernel , then root the device , then flash new stock kernel.
So if the root was in the kernel it have to done but it still in the device. How is that?
2- I have talked about the method for root by flash old kernel then root then flash new kernel.
Why this method work for some versions and don't work with others?

Because once rooted the root access is in the system so flashing kernel only doesn't affect the system files

If you flashed a .sin file then your bootloader is unlocked. That means your probably using a custom kernel. It may just be stock kernel but still a custom one.
Some stock kernels not made by Sony have CWM built into kernel.
For a Sony stock kernel you can find one in your stock ftf file. Also there may already be one made, just search.

Cwm can be located in both Rom or kernel. For my locked Ion it is added to Rom. For my unlocked X10 it's in kernels.
Do you want just the stock kernel? Or are you just seeking knowledge?

Hello everyone at XDA.
I currently have Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my Xperia Play. I used CWM to install Cyanogenmod. I installed CWM using the apk here. My Xperia Play is an r800a with unlocked bootloader.
I have 3 questions left to answer.
1.If I want to return to factory condition do I just flash the original .ftf file? Will this cause any problems to CWM? Will having CM7 then flashing a stock .ftf possibly cause any problems?
2.The thread that shows how to install CWM has a warning that says
Do NOT use this recovery if you are not in Stock 2.3 firmware.
Well right now I am on CM7.2 can I still use this recovery if I want to flash other roms like miui? What does this warning mean?
Here is the thread
3. Also if I need to is there anyway to remove CWM?
Thanks so much for any help.

I know bumping is wrong but I made this into a new question and rather than posting a new message I edited it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
when u flash stock rom it should wipe everything - even recovery (im not sure). Flashing ftf file should give u phone like u had when u got it (but with unlocked bootloader if u did it)

But won't already having CM7.2 cause any problems? Also won't have a custom kernel cause any problems?
when u flash stock rom ftf it overwrite kernel using stock contained in ftf file (kernel.sin)

No. Flashing the ftf will wipe all traces of the custom kernel and any custom rom. It's like doing a factory refresh.

Most Custom Kernels have Recovery In Built, Installing that Recovery wil cancel the Other one out No Value in That app If you have Custom Kernel
Title should tell you all.
I made it to be easy to flash on unlock boot loader via CWM recovery. Just flash it like other custom ROM.
It also reported to work on Locked boot loader!!
- deodex framework and app
- remove few bloated app recommended by ROM kitchen
- busybox installed
- ready for init.d tweak
- ready for user app.
Installation test with SSpeed V7 normal kernel and Advanced Stock Kernel ICS16
It work on my Xperia s I hope it work on your as well.
https://hotfile.com/dl/180118347/fd5551c/LT26i_6.1.A.2.55_SG_Stock.zip.html
The goal of this ROM is a clean stock ROM but ready for mod easily by using just 7zip and notepad++
For example to get quick panel toggle just download the mod somewhere in xda then open the ROM with 7zip (do not extract) then replace systemui and add quick panel setting apk in the system folder. That is!!
You can also add your favor app in data/app to make it preinstall with your new ROM.
Have fun with modding and share your work.
Great Job.

I think you can use titanium backup to backup your game data. Just to be safe please do binary backup of the whole system in CWM before you flash new firmware.
When I test on mine I always do a clean install to eliminate unforeseen problem. I wold recommend you do the same.

and well i went ahead and flashed it (just to prove my theory) and it worked...
my previous rom was .50 rooted and had CWM installed also
i already had flashed .55 kernel and baseband only thing missing was .55 sys
i flashed this zip
it booted and phone is now finally fully .55 and rooted
only thing i had 2 reinstall was CWM because this zip doesnt have recovery in it
thanks! :good:
any chance of same rom with root but in original state (with root included ofc)?
i wont post my steps yet cause i think since this is a deodex rom we will have .odex files left over in sys partition (correct me if im wrong)
so please make a zip so i can test and u can then release for all us unlucky bootloader locked Xperia S users
cheers

Hi guys..
Am in need of a little help here. I need to root a Xperia S running 2.3.7 (Yes, oldie) with firmware version 6.0.A.3.62. This is kind of an official purpose, so i have to be in 2.3.7. Aslo updating the firmware version is my last choice. When i searched, i couldnt find any pre rooted images for 6.0.A.3.62 firmware. Can somebody help me with a pre rooted image or any other method? I want it to be in the generic customization..
If in casei want to flash a pre rooted image of a newer firmware version like 6.0.A.3.73, can i directly flash the image via fastboot? or should i take some precaution since am upgrading from .62??
Your help is much appreciated..

I have a small query... the doom kernel has any difference (apart from root and recovery) compared to the stock kernel?? like any tweaks or something??? because i want the phone to be exactly in a factory condition.. Like what DooMLoRD has mentioned in his kernel thread, his kernel is just the stock kernel that has some ramdisk changes and support for init.d and userinit scripts (besides root and CWM).

Hi:
For one week i was asking my self that when we got new builds that no one know how to root it , why don't we use CWM to force flash su files to system? why it will not work?
I mean if we flashed the root using CWM , the phone must be rooted right?
Ok.
So how do you put in cwm on a new rom without it already installed?

I didn't understand. After flash the stock rom just f;ask custom kernel with CWM then flash the root zip the reflash the stock kernel.
On stock rom (locked bl) you need root to instal cwm, then from cwm do whatever you want do.
Also unlocked BL is always ROOTABLE, don't ask even once for this.
Many newbies on Forum posts that thay found root for unlocked BL, that isnt achivement. Flash custom kernel with root in self.
Trying to root locked bl, well, that is pain in the ass.

Actually, there is a universal zip file for any android phone which *should* root your phone but very often the installation fails because of a wrong update-binary (Status 0). So I made a zip which should work on our Xperia phones here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1772586&d=1362200612
Just flash in cwm and enjoy the root access
custom kernel

Hi:
For one week i was asking my self that when we got new builds that no one know how to root it , why don't we use CWM to force flash su files to system? why it will not work?
I mean if we flashed the root using CWM , the phone must be rooted right?

Yes, i think if we flashed the root (su and busybox package) via CWM or any recovery tool, the phone must be rooted. But in some cases at stock kernel, the CWM doesn't work properly so first of all unlocking bootloader if we flashed any custom kernel (like doomlord kernel) then we can easily get root access flashing the package via recovery.
thanks !

Thanks for that zip
Just small question , what is the job for "fix_permissions" file? Is it important?

Aha , my idea was to unlock bootloader , flash stock JB then flash ICS kernel+CWM , flash the root.zip then reflash the stock kernel.

It sets the correct permissions on the su binary. Actually there is no need for this file since the updater-script does all the work but while I was working on my rom, the permissions were not getting set properly so I used this script
