I'm coinciding the 8x, but the lack of a nav application might be a deal breaker. What are you all using for turn by turn directions?

I think Navigon should be available for purchase in marketplace.
Navigon is really the best option on Windows Phone.. and it is far better than the Android version....
If you want a free or cheap alternative try gMaps....
Is your nokia drive bundled with your phone?
I think I just get bing maps.
Nokia Drive ist only bundled with Nokia Lumia Phones... But you can also download Nokia Drive on your HTC if you have an US or Canada Windows Live account...
The Maps application on your HTC 8S uses Nokia Map Data... Unfortunately only the Map Data and not the POI's so it is pretty useless for me...
Will they enable nokia drive + for europe? Why is it only for usa and canada?
Apart from the version for the rest of Europe - has anyone in US or UK tried to download Nokia Drive? How much memory does it take? Especially for those in UK - are they maybe able to install maps for Europe? Or maybe just order a simcard from UK, install Nokia drive, and then carry on with another simcard...
I think it will not work with usa simcard. I tried to deploy it via visual studio. It does work, but app is checking the sim at start.
AW: Navigation...what are you still using?
As far as i know nokia drive uses the maps you can download directly form the Windows Phone map Manager in the settings menu...

Copilot Live 8 for Windows Mobile is here check out the link.

Thank goodness I waited
Edit
Did I mention? It is bloody cheap! well compared to what I would have paid for Copilot 7, 2 weeks ago (£54.99). I am sure it is but can anyone confirm if this is a his res version.
is this same **** as the other copilot.. once installed it can't be thrown off??
Lucky for me but i havent got copilot 7. I know a few people have mentioned this same problem. On the ALK website it says you must uninstall any previous version of copilot for the new one to work. if you guys are saying you cant uninstall then you guys are kinda screw.ed.
I would have thought it was simply a case of going to the remove programs icon and click on copilot to uninstall. Damn ALK! why do so companies make things so difficult?
hi,
i think our device is not compatible with this software.
Who can upgrade?

In Check Compatility list Touch Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2 are mentioned as compatible. If you check the following link, it's mentioned that v8 can not be installed in which v7 was factory installed.
http://guide.copilotlive.net/doku.php#uninstalling_previous_versions_of_copilot_live
Important: HTC Touch Diamond 2 and HTC TouchPro 2 Unfortunately CoPilot Live v8 cannot currently be installed on those Touch Diamond 2 or Touch Pro 2 phones which were supplied with a factory-installed trial version of CoPilot Live 7.
Copilot Live 8 working fine on Touch Pro 2.
I've bought it today and installed it .
It looks good and fully compatible and it's Hi Res. It works like charm.
I've been using this for a few days now on my TP2 (no previous installation of CoPilot) - no problems so far. I quite like it actually - looks good, has plenty of options etc. Oh, and also my TP2 has zero GPS lag with this piece of software - without any modifications to the register!
It's not perfect though: on-screen keyboard is alhpabetically arranged and for this reason very slow to type on, also I haven't (yet) found a way to set any other starting point other than my current location, which is kind of a limiting factor in planning a route.
Anyway, it's miles better than the Wayfinder Navigator s**t I put up with until now.
Is TTS Text to Speech is included as standard? Looks like it extra premium option, how much does it cost extra? Can any one post how much will it cost extra for each premium options like TTS, voice command, live search etc?
I tried to read all over there site and it says most recent map data but does not say which month release it is from. I am using Copilot Live 7 and can not find some addresses. is it 2009 q1 data or Q2 data?
Thanks
My biggest question - does this require a storage card, or can I just install this on my own microSDHC?
I purchased CoPilot Live 8 for my US Fuze. I cannot see how to get the Live features working: Weather, traffic etc...
Any ideas?

I think they are optional extra (Premium) services that you need to buy (subscribe??) using Copilot central 2.0.(correct me if I am wrong) If that's included in that $29.99 (upgrade price) that would be an excellent price with entire NA and canada maps.

There is no streets?
Hi !
I have HTC Touch Pro 2 and it worked very well with Copilot Live 8. But I have a strange problem. I bought the North America Maps, that includes the Canada and USA Maps. When I surf on map, I can see all streets, roads, POI’s in USA but in Canada I only see Major roads. There is no streets, no POI’s… what is the problem ? Please Help.
Installation was quite easy. Thanks to KK0813 for the link to the guide. The maps are not very up to date though. I live in a new build area (development started in 2004 and was completed about Dec 2007) and my street is not on the map. Thats very poor.
I have got screen lock set and when I am using copilot, the screen locks out. This didnt happen on my TyTN 2. anyone got any quick fix for this?
CoPilot Live 8 vs. Garmin XT 5?
I use Garmin but have been thinking about switching over to CoPilotLive... the graphics look really good. The price is also RIGHT.
BTW - anyone know how much the voices go for? I noticed the $35-$40 didn't include voices.

My street was completed in 1999 and doesn't feature in CP7. Can't work that one out.
Looks like you can also upgrade from CPL7 so if it was factory installed that should work no?
Just upgraded from CP6 (free from O2 at the time) to CP8. The screen is high resolution and installed without any problems. Had a problem installing CP Central 2 with the error code 1628. Found it was the anti-virus software i was using. I've checked the maps and found that some major roads completed within the last 12 months are featured however some of the minor 'streets' have not been. All looks good especially when you consider the price.
someone must have an idea of my problem. at least one person must experience the same problem. I have a password lock on my touch pro 2 set to 1 min so if the device is not used for a min, it locks and requests a password. on my TyTN 2 i have copilot 6 and when it is on the screen knows not to lock, i guess cos it understands it is a navigation program but on my touch pro 2 with copilot 8 the screen locks after 1 min. This isnt practical as you cannot be expected to keep typing in your pin every minute while driving.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a problem with copilot 8 or is it the touch pro 2. Is there any way round this?

I have the same problem, I live in canada, and I was suprised to not be able to see my own town streets... I can see the POI's but not the streets... Like you say, I can only see the major street at a higher zoom level.
I raised it to ALK, last Friday, but they never got back to me. You should do the same.
Thanks,
Eric
hey people, i was just wondering if there is a google sky type app available for windows mobile. for those that dont know what it is it displays the names and location of stars using gps and an inbuilt compass. however, im not sure if the touch pro 2 has the necessary hardware to run such an app.
any info would be greatly appreciate
thanks
I would love to see this on the WoMo platform.
it's not looking too likely.. hopefully one day its released on windows mobile though or someone creates a similar app
Here you go. Vito Astro Navigator. http://vitotechnology.com/astronavigator.html
The TP2 does not have a built-in compass, only GPS.
Google Sky
I've been using Pocket Stars from Handango for about a year.. awesome little program and a data connection is not needed!

Correct, the TP2 does not have the necessary hardware. The HD2 has one. Have seen the program on an Android phone, and it's a great way to show off the hardware.
i just installed xandroid on my TP2....and downloaded the google sky app via android marketplace...and installed it and it worked perfect.
the gps can be used as a compass i believe.....
someone needs to make this a winmo app and make it for free !!!
My first android phone. Moving from an Iphone 3g can anyone point me to a good satnav app for android? Tomtom doesn't have an app for android...
Also is Google Navigation available for the UK now? and will it work on the handset?
Co-Pilot is probably the best option currently available - not badly priced either.
Co-pilot all the way - had it on my HTC HD2.. Was fantastic, the Android version is identical.
Someone has tried Igo MyWay ?
I was using Igo8 under winmo and I would like to know if it's approximatively the same?
Been using CoPilot on G1 since its release... Very good satnav and with the Desires processor the slight lag you can get with CoPilot should be a thing of the past...
I've always used TomTom. The only thing I've noticed about Co-Pilot is the lack of a qwerty keyboard option.
Co-pilot is not a standalone application, isn't it?

What do you mean by stand-alone application? You can buy it separately and install it on to mobile phone, just like TomTom and others.
I am currently using iGo MyWay on a PNA with WinMo CE.
I must say I think it is the best navigation software I've ever used. (I've used TomTom, and Garmin before)... but of course this is just my subjective opinion...

I would say the maps are on the phone and the app doesn't need data connection to work So yes, just like TomTom.
Sygic has a very TomTom like interface, great maps, and has an Android platform as well as WM6.5.
The very kind people at CoPilot sent me a download to allow me to switch my CoPilot 8 from WM6.5 to Android - for free. I thought what was great customer relations, so one up for CoPilot!
Sygic is also cross-platform so the version I was using on my HD2 should work on my new Desire. Supposed to be easy to reactivate as it will be used on the same MicroSD card.

Oh, thats a shame, ill try it on tuesday when I get mine
I am also torn between Co-Pilot vs Sygic ... Which one is better, though choice.
For me, price does not really matter. What I want:
- Reliability
- The fastest one to get satellite LOCK
- Updated maps quite often (not necessarily the latest one, but they did update the maps)
I think we can have Co-Pilot trial version ... but unfortunately there is no Sygic in the Market, and I am not sure if we can request trial version.
CoPilot... Now tried and tested on Desire
Just had a play with CoPilot on my Desire and it works like a dream (not as in G1 dream, as in well)... smooth, fast and found no bugs so far...

What version are you using?
Has any body used copilot from the market place on an HTC Desire?
The version I tried before on my hero was rubbish and so I was waiting for TomTom. Now although I would still rather have TomTom I need a satnav and so am happy to pay for a proper copy of copilot but thought I'd check it works on my new Desire but it doesn't. I don't want to waste money so can anybody confirm the copilot UK version on marketplace does work on the new HTC Desire (preferably T-Mobile version to be sure).
Also anybody tried SYGIC (UK version) on the HTC desire. Many Thanks.

Sygic works well, also Navigon, although the Navigon app is huuuge and not recommended if you have data on NAND
Navigon is pretty good.
Always been a big fan of trekbuddy, I know it has an android port now, it is a bit more work setting up maps and stuff, but depending on what you use it for, it's pretty good, especially offline, ( and off-road ).
Not sure I'd use it for sat nav, I prefer using it for biking/walking stuff, but it does do a lot of stuff that most gps software miss
I'm really surprised that no utility has been released that allows forced user selected cache'ing of google navigation maps so the app could be used offline- this would be a killer method!
Anyone heard of NDRIVE successfully running on KAISER? I've stumbled across some reviews which claim it is the fastest GPS app,
Also any comments on smallest app size - one that could install to NAND and 1GB SD card?
I am using NAVIGON, which is working very well.
Hi everyone,
I've used Navit for android, even if it's not complete as other software, it's opensource and for me it worked great.
Some poblems to find road names in small town, but it depends on Openstreatmap, not on navit. It's not on the market you have to download from navit web site (just type: navit android on google and you'll find it).
Bye

Hi,
I'm using HTC Desire HD, and I used to use Garmin for gps service in the car.
I really need Garmin Navigation!
In the Andriod phone, I need to buy the GPS navigation service,
First of all, do anyone have the code for buildin HTC GPS code?
BTW, I really need Garmin for Andriod.
Please help
Unfortunately my friend Mui9 we will not see Android version of Garmin any time soon. Although there is an Android version, derived from the partnership between Garmin and Asus, the sw version is tightly locked for these specific Asus devices. And due to this partnership, Garmin is "prisoned" not to sell for other Android phone manufacturers.
Garmin currently only supports BlackBerries, and now iPhone with their new app. Users with Symbian and WM devices can also use old Garmin versions for their phones (unsupported though).
Some popular navigation software for Android (which one is best actually depends on where you live):
1) Navigon
2) Sygic
3) Google Navigation
4) NDrive
5) CoPilot Live
To conclude, I too await for Garmin on my DHD! I believe it is by far the best Nav software out there. I hope Garmin will hear our prayers .
