Look im on ICS right now from the store (just got my phone) I want to root it and install a custom rom.... now my question is
Because I don't have JB yet I won't flash my counter right? Question is I can easly choose to flash stock firm ware again later on and reinstall the offical JB rom right? The one from the KIES and samsung,..
So once again... Im on ICS offical.... I want a custom ICS rom.... im ok ? no flash counter? I choose to go back to stock and go forward with JB im still ok no flash counter?
Alright.... but if I flash a JB ROM It will flash right? and it keeps flashing the counter every time I flash
Im a bad type try answer my question if you can please.
I am a person who may need his warrenty some day

You will trip the flash counter if you use Odin to flash something other than a stock (untouched or properly rooted) image.

Yes - see here for completely stock images you can use for that, or here for pre-rooted stock images.

Well, to reach the point of having a custom ROM image without having tripped the flash counter, you'll need to go through the root process listed in the second of those links I indicated above so that you can install a custom recovery through which you can install those ROM images.

Just remember - if you're using Odin and you don't want to trip the flash counter, don't flash anything other than stock images. You should be okay then.
Also, keep in mind there is an app called Triangle Away which works for the GS3. Triangle Away can completely reset the flash counter.

hi ,i have TWRP , i unrooted my phone, how can i root it again , my USB port is not working .. Is there a file just to load to SD card and proceed from there?
If you already have TWRP, then all you need is to flash a superuser or supersu zip file through the recovery, and you are rooted. All you need to do is put it on your SD card.

You cannot completely backup a stock GS3 without root. The most you can do is backup your app installs (not settings), your text messages, contacts, and a few other things. You could us MyBackup for that, but system and app settings, as well as backing up the entire ROM requires root.
EDIT: Sorry, doing too many things at once, to backup your ROM, you would have to flash a custom Recovery through Odin (not mobile Odin), and then do a backup through that Recovery.
If you're looking to put the stock ROM back your rooted phone, there is no need to root a stock phone that isnt rooted, back up the stock ROM to flash it over to the phone you're trying to send in...
Download the stock ROM from XDA and flash it back onto the rooted phone making sure you check to make sure you didnt trip the ROM counter.
Check the DEV section for the stock ROMs. They are in there.

I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB. Is there an easy way for me to update to M919UVUAMDL. When I tried the ota it said my phone has been modified and wouldn't proceed. I've been reading about people having issues rooting their phone after the they updated, so I'm thinking it may not be worth it to update at this time. I'm hoping I can just flash somthing to bring my phone up to date without the root blocking that was implemented in UAMDL. I have been having some issues and hope the update would resolve them. Can someone steer me in the right direction please? Thanks

I thought some of the stock rooted firmwares were zipped and could be flashed via recovery.... (why I didn't think of doing this on the old GS4 I have no idea, prolly because I wanted to keep my recovery stock -shrug-)
Either way wouldn't you need to get Triangle Away?

...in other words, isn't it possible to find a custom firmware that you can flash through recovery? (or since this is Samsung land, is this all through Odin? I remember on my Evo 3D I could find new custom firmwares in zip files and flash from recovery.)
and Triangle Away resets some kind of counter specific to some Samsung phones relating to custom firmwares.

he said he's already rooted and already has a custom recovery... so basically he needs to find a rom that is stock MDL but rooted(there are 2 in the and development forum) and flash it. that's it. I'm not sure why they wanted to update through Odin it kinda makes no sense.. cos they it'd be stock uprooted and then they'd have to root it again. AFAIK triangle away it's only used to reset the counter on the bootloader to see that you haven't installed any custom recoveries which you would only need if you were to send the phone back to tmo to have it exchanged. Otherwise you don't really need Odin unless you **** up a flash and then need to bring it back to stock fw and then root it again and do the whole process basically ODIN brings your phone back from a soft brick.

So I need some advice on which ROM to flash back on my phone. I am new to custom ROMs and managed to hard brick my phone. I am going to try a Jig to see if I can get into download mode, however, if I do that I am not sure what ROM to flash back onto my phone. It's a galaxy S3 i747. When this all started I was running JB 4.1.1 on it. Then I flashed CM10 and that went great. After I flashed CM10 my phone said that I was on JB 4.3. Did CM update JB and the bootloader? I know that trying to flash an older bootloader can cause troubles. Afater I had CM running I tried to flash LeanKernel and this is when I bricked my phone. So my questions is, do I need to flash the ROM for JB4.1.1 or for JB 4.3? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look buddy, the first thing you want to do is flash the latest STOCK rom for you're model. After you've done that you can now backup you're stock rom via recovery (TWRP recommended), after that you now have a stable rom to return to just in case you fail to flash a custom rom. And I would recommend one of the stock mod roms to get the use of all of Samsung's exclusive features. Good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions.

There isn't an odin flashable 4.3 rom for i747. The last thing there is is 4.1.1 then the 4.3 you would take as an ota. I highly doubt cm updated your bootloader. Floating around the forums is an sd unbrick method. You could try that. I don't have experience with it, but quite a few people have. Good luck.

Not entirely sure. Never updated to 4.3 on a stock ROM. It was on JB 4.1 before I flashed CM10. However once I flashed CM10 the settings page said my phone was on JB 4.3. So not sure if the bootloader got updated or not.
Thanks so much everyone for the help. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the Jig did not work, so it is all a moot point in the end. Looks like the phone is going off to get JTAGed.
Hello, I am currently rooted and have CWM 6.0.4.3. installed. I'm on CM11 but want to go back to stock.. Is there an easy way to keep root and go back to stock. Want stock for a few functions that ROMS dont seem to be offering but can keep root and CWM ??
Thanks.
Which phone do you have? You could try flashing a pre-rooted stock ROM via Odin. Then use Odin to flash CWM.
Bt its better to firstly install ur stock rom and then again root it as it takes no longer than 5 mins

Do you know if there is a step by step on this somewhere ? I dont mind going back to complete stock.. I can just re-root and flash CWM after.
OR
Maybe you could just answer the bigger question : the reason I want to go back to stock is I need to use MHL/HDMI which CM11 doesnt support. I dont want to go back to stock, I would rather even go to another ROM that supports mhl/hdmi.. but if I have to go to stock, than so be it.?

Since you installed a custom recovery, that would have tripped the Knox counter which voids the warranty. It's not a problem if the phone is working properly.
Did you update to 4.3 or did it come with 4.3?
You may be better off installing a pre-rooted ROM.

I asked about 4.3 because the 4.3 bootloader cannot be downloaded. Flashing via mobile Odin will not touch the bootloader or modem.
You could try a pre-rooted rom and then flash a custom recovery via Odin.

Ok thanks, I will do that. 1 thing I'm not quite sure of is the bootloader situation ? In the first tutorial there is a note : Flashing a prior bootloader can hard/soft brick your device. How do I know ?
I see the steps as:
Extract tar file you downloaded.
Use Odin, put phone into download mode [with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the tar file
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and when done let phone reboot.
If you just want a stock, rooted phone with no custom recovery, no plans to flash custom roms, etc. then you can stop HERE.
For my situation, is it just that easy ?
Before flashing, verify the version of your bootloader.

If you are sure you have the Rogers i747m and you have never loaded a stock Rogers 4.3 ROM onto your phone, you could use desktop Odin to flash a pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426.
Flashing the pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM will return the phone to completely stock, wipe out all installed apps and data, and you will have root. I do not recommend flashing the Rogers 4.3 pre-rooted ROM from the link.
Once you are able to boot into the phone and set things up, you can flash Philz Touch from Odin which will give you a custom recovery on a rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM.
