Springpad now has a beautiful tablet UI. You can access notes from any web browser, plus collaborate notes with other users for free.

I totally agree, I wish it had more abilities like super note, it allows you to handwrite your notes or draw diagrams

It would be nice if Google made their own note pad app that syncs across devices like chrome does

Have you tried Handy note pro? I think it's great for handwritten notes. It's not free but I think it's worth the money.
^^^^^ Handy Note Pro is what I use.
I spent some time recently trying out all the leading products. I am a long-time Catch user, but I wanted to be able to sketch my stuff.
The UI is a bit unique, but it's quite intuitive - a little like working in PowerPoint oddly-enough, with text objects and graphic objects that can be moved around the screen.
If I want more of a dedicated notes tool for longer text-based situations, I just use Google docs. Hard to beat that, IMO.
don't know what version are in OP,but this is the last supernote apk i find..

Simple NotePad-colorful notes - give you a simple but smart note editing experience when you write notes, memo, email, message, shopping list or to do list...
OP is updated, thanks everyone for your contributions and help!
I have to say I'm loving springpad!

I like catch a lot because it has reminders and a task manager type thing not just note taking, I'm sure ever note and spring pad has those features but never found it when I used those apps

I actually find the older version of supernote to be more usable. Same features essentially, but the ui looks better than the phone mode of 3.1... Also if I type in landscape then rotate to portrait in order to read, it changes the size than forcing you to scroll over.
I'm on 1.3... can link to the apk if anyone is interested.

Well now I'm finding that I can't tab out in this version... All I want is fast bt keyboard typing, with the ability to add in line drawings... And yes I've used freenote, but it has its own set of problems.
I agree with a bunch of previous posts. There are very good options for taking notes on the N7 (Catch, Evernote, Springpad, etc) which fit the bill nicely as long as you have no need to sketch. But, in order for the N7 to really *replace* pen/paper for me, it needs to do this.
The elegance of plain 'ol paper and pen is that I can write what I want, where I want, I can capture text very fast (like when listening to someone speak) and I can scribble visual ideas that range from notations around stuff I've already written, to sketching diagrams. For me, pen and paper is the gold standard.
Apps that incorporate free-sketch with text, like SuperNote and Handy Note Pro seem like they'd be perfect, but actually they don't compete well with pen/paper in real-life note-taking situations. I currently use Handy Note (SuperNote is good as well), and the object-oriented nature of the UI is a little kludgy when needing to work fast. The pages are too short (I've reported this to the Dev) and when done, I end up with an artifact (a PDF) that syncs to the cloud just fine, but it's not editable on my PC.
I have been in touch with the Catch Devs, as they have extensions to Catch that allow sketching, but only for specific platforms (none that I own), and they don't expect to be building more soon due to limited Dev resources.
One other potential gotcha for note taking, is the lack of integrated hand-writing recognition when inputing free-hand text. I understand handwriting recognition pretty well, going all the way back to the Apple Newton and I know it can be a pain at times, but it seems like it's needed for a really comprehensive note-taking solution.
So, my take is that there are fine options available, but they have their limitations.
writepad stylus is pretty good.
I use hovernote notes http://mjlim.net/wordpress/hovernote/

Its simple, light, and hovers over anything

Supernote would be acceptable if I could tab
And papyrus would take the cake if text input was not in text boxes

I totally agree with you man, I think we need something that is for example Springpad and Supernote combined:
Springpad's clean and simple UI, sync/share features and many other useful stuff
Supernote's sketching capability
Im gonna ask the devs at Springpad if they can implement sketch in thier next update or something...

I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus thus far and am sure to be posting in these forums many times over the coming days (weeks, months, etc). I was hoping someone could recommend a good RSS app for me. I've always used an app called NewsRoom which I absolutely love but it seems the developer has pretty much abandoned it and it doesn't work well on ICS. The main thing I liked so much about NewsRoom was its ability to load all unread articles (and not just from one site/feed) in order from oldest to newest, and that it loaded full articles without having to follow a link to read the whole article. I could get all my news from all different places in the order it happened without having to leave ths app.
I've used NewsRoom for so long that I just can't get acclimated to any of the apps I've tried so far (unofficial greader, Pulse, currents) and was hoping for some suggestions. Thanks in advance!
i know NewsRob is a pretty popular one, but i always find myself going back to the official reader app from Google.
i would take some caution though, per some comments in reviews it seems that its a bit wonky with ICS and may not let the phone sleep properly.
EDIT: NewsRob has the sleep/ICS issues - Offical Google Reader is A-OK.
I use AtomaRSS myself and love the widgets. Easily synced with my Google Reader account and I pre-load all my articles so I can read them offline.

I use google reader. I like the scrollable widgets of it also.
Same here Google reader! Just set it up to not sync automaticly and you're good to go!

Another vote for Google reader here! I haven't bothered to try any others but Google reader works perfectly for me.
Another vote for google reader here, although i have it set to sync automatically and am not seeing excessive battery drain, the stock widget and the APW Reader widget are both good, go with APW if you like transparent widgets.

I have mine set for automatic sync too and haven't seen any impact on battery either. I have two news widgets on my home screen. I love turning my phone on and being able to see news right there on the screen.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Feedr. I've been using it for more than two years (starting with the Droid); it's the most customizable RSS reader I've seen, and it syncs with Google Reader.
I would use the official Google app if it wasn't lacking features, like a dark theme, title font options, or certain sorting features -- without needing a browser.
Here are some pics to give you an idea:

I've been using gReader Pro and am very happy with it. They have a free version to try out first.
Another vote for google reader here.
Tryout BeyondPod
I have been using this since the Windows Mobile Days it not only will do RSS but Podcasts.
Google Reader is a very good free alternative too.
+1 for gReader
just in case anyone is wondering, Google Reader is DIFFERENT from gReader
I'm a bigger fan of gReader. My friend introduced me to it a while ago and have been using it ever since. Syncs perfectly with my RSS feeds, can do offline reading, and resizes pictures from the article to fit the screen nicely.
Give it a try

+1 for gReader. Also note that the paid version has a "dark" theme option which is better on the battery for the AMOLED screen.
I just tried Google Reader after all the recommendations on this thread (I use NewsRob in general) and I have to say that I'm surprised so many of you actually like it. It seems really jittery when scrolling through the listing of articles. I'm surprised that an app made by Google has such bad UI performance.
NewsRob is really really smooth. I'll go try gReader now.
Edit - gReader is also jittery when scrolling through the article list. I think the apps need to be updated for ICS. Newsrob is a lot smoother, and I know that the GN and ICS is capable of butter smooth scrolling.
I paid for Feedr and NewsRob, but got tired of them quickly. Been using gReader for a while now, and love it.
Nobody here uses Feedly? It has a few bugs, but the presentation of articles is nice - it syncs with Google Reader, so all your feeds are there

I'm not sure if this counts but I enjoy using Pulse.

Time to do some Apple Siri-Comparing!
Just Downloaded v1 from the marketplace out of curiosity. Definately needs some help with accuracy lol
I like positive news and this is positive, WP needs to keep up the good work and listen to what we want and need, if they do then I can see them reaching their goals in 2015 but if the don't then, well... it's not good and you all know how I feel about that so I'll spare you my complaining.
The new update looks awesome..cant wait for it..And the best part is that it is totally free!

Agreed, I read some where that the dev of this app has actually been trying to get Ziggy to do more but you know MS and their damned restricted API's. I'n my opinion they need to hire this guy.
The screenshots look cool. I may dl it again.
I tried it before, and 90% of the time the response was just "would you like to do a websearch for that" or whatever it says.
I could save myself time and a couple steps by just voice-searching Bing.

I know I hardly use it my self, I'll use it from time to time to entertain my self for a few laughs but it's great to see it evolve. You have to give it to the dev of the app; he has to improve it even with the MS restrictions.
I really don't like it when developers use a panorama design and put "Settings" as a screen to swipe to. They really should put the settings in the app bar. If he only wants the microphone icon in the app bar then add the settings to the "more" 2 dots part.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to this update!

LOL, I think he did it that way because people asked him to make it more metrofied.
Much better design and definitely if Microsoft know what they doing, they would hire this dude. These are people that are ready to dedicate their full time to Windows Phone.

Then he should look closely at how MS design their panorama apps. Settings are always in the app bar in People hub, messaging, xbox live hub, calender etc
Generally when a user swipes along a panoramic screen its to see more content. Settings isn't more content. Most users don't even fiddle with it each time they launch the app unless they need to change something, so therefore dedicating an entire panoramic screen to it is bad design and not metro.
That is my opinion

It's the case with so many major app developers. It's the mindset from other OSes. That brings us to badly developed apps argument. There is always an app for what we need, if not official, a client - majority of the times. But most apps are so horribly metrofied that it's mortifying. Making apps esp free ones, is an amazing task! But then full hearted approach to match the metro concept will streamline an user's experience and they will love your app more. Else someone too choosy about how his phone looks might find distasteful breaks in his streamline experience. Most WP users gotta be choosy with UI, why else would you love this new UI so much!?
May be people here won't agree, but this is what I generally consider as a factor whether any particular app will stay on my WP. In my WM and Android days, that wasn't an issue because OS UI was ugly anyway. But can't let the UI experience be ruined just because I want some functionality of an app that I might only use once a week or once a month!
Oh this looks so much better. I'm not a big fan of how it looks right now.
I do agree with previous comments about settings. A whole screen to swipe to is uneccessary. Put it in the bar.
I can agree Ziggy looks dirty. I hope developer ask some designers to help him make ui better.
Function over finesse. It's more important to get the core working well, than to tweak the look and feel.
For the most part the real use is a 1 button deal. Make it listen. Make it stop and process.
The app without a function update was only a cool concept, but not much worked properly. Since it is a 1 person team, I am glad the focus is on getting it to function properly.
Once the guts are working properly, it can be delivered. Then, we will have a great functional app while the user interface tweaks are done. Then we will have a superb app.
been reading all over the General/Accessories threads.. great stuff... im not readay to root or install roms yet... sooo
I am coming from the Sprint Mogul (Titan) and loved it.. then with custom roms it was a better phone.. powered windshield mount, gps software and all.. it was great..
now this my first android... and I have already started seeing the night and day difference (side from hardware.. bigger screen, faster, etc...)..
just ordered a infuse windshield mount and going to order a samsung e4gt desk cradle in a bit (waiting on an ebay offer if accepted)
what apps do you run that is making the phone enjoyable???
my list and couldnt do on the Titan...
1. Office Talk Free (Office communicator) - really nice so now i can go to the labratories and can get messages still!!!!
2. VIP Access - no more keyfob on my keychain.. just put it in my drawer...
3. Beat the Traffic
4. KeypassDroid
5. Craigslist
6. a reliable flashlight app
7. Wifi Analizer - had one on ppc but this one was way better.. even told me to change channels for performance
what do you use???
Only thing I am not thrilled with is the GPS software.. I had TomTom7, iGuidance and GarminXT... TeleNav isnt working right (triangle not on the street) and Navigation looses connection....
Fruit Ninja
I liked it before I even bought it. I just knew it was the next phone I needed.
My gut was right, and I love it completely. Even stock it's an awesome piece of hardware. Not that mine is stock at all lol.
I work in the hosting biz, so the stardevelop live help messenger app is very helpful for me, as well as whmcs, the high quality browsers, Go SMS Pro, and many others.

But seriously? All the games that never played on my Hero, and all the games that kinda lagged on my Evo4G. All run like melted butter on this.
That being said, I actually only game on my way home on the subway. GoogNav works great for me (if you root, you can try diff modems/kernel combos, fix that, btw), NetFlix is awesome, all the basics (gmail, calendar, talk) are also smoove as hell and easy to read, wifi-analyzer/network utility apps and things like wifikill and "Anti" are awesome, all the camera apps like vignette and camera360,...
On and on and on...
Sent from my calculator watch.
I run the same main apps I have had on my previous phons.
1> Llama (Used to be locale, but I think I like Llama better)
2> Tapatalk
3> Aldiko and iReader
4> Runkeeper
5> Flashlight (Amazing idea and REALLY useful at times)
6> Navigate (I haven't pulled my GPS out of my glove box in a few years now)
7> Pandora
8> Sound Hound
10> Goggles
tough question to answer, but, let me put it this way; I have yet to see ANY app that didn't run perfectly, smoothly, and faster than any other phone I have owned..
Nothing is even close to this phone right now, as far as being perfect in almost every way...
I've owned at least 50 phones in my life, so I know of what I speak..
Agree with above

Loved the phone straight out of the box but the wealth of apps definitely makes me love it more.
Mobile Checkbook
Beat the Traffic Plus
Key Ring
Out of Milk
Dropbox
Springpad
There's quite a few more but that's the gist of it.
I agree that besides compatibility like with games like GTA3, this phone mostly just brings speed and size to the table. That said my most used apps on it are:
1. Plume
2. Netflix
3. HBOGO
4. MIUI Music
5. LOUDER
6. SB Nation
7. ACS Mobile
8. Transparent XDA
9. Scorecenter
10. GTA3

I've decided to start this thread because like others I'm always looking for new Applications & Widgets for my device. With the massive amount of Application releases each day it's quite time consuming to constantly keep up to date let alone test out each of these.
With that said, what are some Applications / Widgets you simply cannot live without? Those that look good on the homescreen / lockscreen / etc.
If you'd like to include a screenshot with your post as well that'd be great, let's build a good list for people who aren't familiar with all the Applications the Android Market has to offer!
--
With that said I'd have to put Poweramp in the list, it's simply the best Application for music with a ton of options.

Quite simple really...
1.) Just download the image you want to look up.
2.) Edit that image to crop out unnecessary details.
3.) Upload that image to Google Image Search.
4.) Profit.

Sure. Here you go. I edited the Mario one so that there is more black space to align with homescreens properly. Added an extra one for fun. These images aren't mine... I found these on the "post your homescreen thread" here at XDA.
Just started using WidgetLocker these past few days, seems it's transitioned into more of a stable application for the Nexus. I'm having no noticeable lag at this time.
WidgetLocker Lockscreen

My must-have apps/widgets would be:
BeWeather Pro - very nice weather app with an assortment of widget sizes that can be skinned via BeWeather skins OR Beautiful Widget skins.
PlayerPro - Music app that I absolutely love. Has a fantastic GUI, great sound quality and the dev is very responsive. I've tried just about every music app out there and this is one fits my musical needs best.
XiiaLive - Awesome internet radio station app that plays Shoutcast stations. Use this to blast my internet dance radio stations through my car stereo while having my Gnex paired to it via Bluetooth).
Equalizer (by Smart Android Apps) - Great EQ app that I use to have equalized sound in the various music apps on my phone (PlayerPro, Google Music, XiiaLive, Digitally Imported, etc.).
CarHome Ultra - Fantastic app that takes care of the problem of Samsung taking forever-and-a-day to release their stupid official car dock for the Gnex by having the option to automatically put my phone in car mode when my phone connects to my car stereo over Bluetooth. Love this app!
gReader Pro - Best RSS reader I've found that can access Google Reader feeds. Again, tried many, many various RSS apps out there and this one stomps them all (for my needs anyway).
Nova Launcher - Takes the native ICS launcher and kicks it up a notch with some very nice extra features. Kinda funny/sad that it does a better job with controlling lag when using the stock ICS Live Wallpapers than Google's own native launcher.
Pure Calendar - Skinnable widget that can pull my Google Calendar and Touchdown Exchange calendar data together and display them all very nicely in a scrollable widget. The dev of the "Pure" series of apps/widgets really does a great job with all of the apps in this line.
iSyncr - Fantastic app that allows me to sync my iTunes-based playlists on my iMac to my Gnex. Also has a companion app to do the syncing wirelessly.
Google Voice - For all the options it gives to deal with voicemail messages, spam calls/texts, not to mention free texting! Been using this since it became available and I think I'd pretty much die without it now. haha
WiFi File Explorer Pro - Handy app that allows me to access my phone from my computer over my home wifi network.

Sorry if this list it a bit long but these are all the apps I use regularly and would dearly miss if they were to go away.

Hey man I tried sending you a message but apparently XDA is real screwy and need to get some bugs fixed. anyway...I was wondering how you got the mclock widget to resize to fit the nexus' screen. I used the .xml file from Red X but he made the width 420 so it shows up really small on the nexus screen. If you could let me know how to resize it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
The Game of Thrones clock widget is my fav...

Cannot be without:
Transparent Launcher - I like being able to place some apps on the homescreen with an "invisible" icon
Android Weather Widget
Advanced Clock Widget Pro - I like the simplicity

Hello XDA friends,
How many apps on Play Store that sync your notes with Google Task? Many!
But since I didn t feel confortable with any of them I decided to make mine, with an alternative Holo UI, that take inspiration from Google Now, Google Keep, and made it more intuitive.
The app is mainly designed to make you feel all the features in your hands, even using a smartphone (tested on my 4.3" Galaxy S2 display) and offer simultaneusly 2 type of navigation: dropdown (useful to skip from a list to another when number of lists is huge) and swype.
This app as stated before lets you sync your current task with Google Task, so everything is synced to every device you got, with your PC and tablet, android, iOS and Windows!
Isn t it great?
Support to Dashclock (4.2), Password, Reminders, Due Date, all your lists are available and you ll never lose a meeting anymore thanks to notification feature (expanded notification for android 4.1+ users).
A touch of color to help you highlight your actions, nice animations and a complete settings menu to customize your app, your sincs, your passwords, your notifications.
You can even count on configurable widgets, with every size support and tons of customizations; and what about shortcuts?
Some screenshot following
And to always feel all under control and ready to use we can use widgets and shortcuts!
Shortcut may be used to open a selected list or to add a nu task in a selected list.. or both!
You can set an illimitate numeber of shortcuts obviously.
Widgets are fully customizable, you can set the order sorting, set if display as checklist or as simple notes, choose if display the content of the notes, the max lines of the title, every widget is fully resizable and got built in 3 buttons to open the list, add a nu task or simply reconfigure the widget.
So said that the word to you, hoping all Google Task users will enjoy!
For any kind of requests, bug tracking, feedbacks I' m here, just shout!
Cheers
Note: there are 2 versions, one for free and one donate that differs from free version for only 2 features: passwords and shortcuts.
You can use free version anyway, it s pretty complete and has dashclock integration too, has widgets, reminders, all the rest.
If u want to support just buy donate version, if don t want just enjoy, share and give some feedback for free version
It's looks great, Thanks!

Looks really nice, but in my opinion the size of the font is too big.. I've got only 3/4 Events on the screen, that is too little for me.. I think if the font-size is smaller it could be a really productive Application for me.. But with the big size it looks, in the app, really nice but the widget is useless for me until the size of the letters is smaller ..
But still thank you for the Application !

Minimal is best, I'll wait for updates.
If you want I can help with the translation of missing strings into Hebrew.
Send me PM with the XML file of the existing Hebrew translation. (Even my English is not so good, my Hebrew is excellent, so I can translate without problems)
