Hello
After using some of custom rom's, i returned to stock rom because of battery life. And now i have problem with flashing mods in recovery (like extended power menu). I have about 40MB free space on phone, my apps are linked2sd, my rom is deodexed with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600805 .
When I'm flashing something in recovery, after system startup i see a message about low internal memory level. Some app's are missing (like google play). Link2sd is going crazy, sometimes he said that he doesn't have root access, other time he tells me that he need debugging USB on, I'm turning it on but he tells mi it again and i can see that debugging is off. When I finaly launch link2sd and I'm moving first app to link2sd, he shows me a progress bar and I'm waiting for weeks and nothing is happening.

use ext3 man.even stock kernel support it.i am using same int2ext+ with ext3 on my deodexed stock rom.
and dont worry about that 100 MB..wildfire s have around 512 MB total internal space include whole system.so you can partition your sdcard upto 2 GB. bt keep it 500 MB or 1 GB.it will works fine.
that script put ur system apps on sd-ext and dont wry nothing will slow down..same as link2sd.bt it works very good.
but do clean install like flashed that script after installing rom.i am not sure about it ll work on installed rom or not so.

So, if I would want to change sd-ext to ext3 i would have to format it, and i will lose all my apps, so maybe i'll try to install mods on a clean rom

man link2sd needs also ext3/ext4paritions to work.
fat32 is only for audio video and other data.for sd-ext scripts,link2sd needs partition like ext3/ext4
link2sd wont work with fat32.
and dont worry about ext4.it only work with some device and some roms major cm9/cm10.

for link2sd or any other scripts you need to partition your sd card:
1) FAT32 REMAINING
2) EXT3/EXT4 ( 1 GB)
3) LINUX SWAP (512 MB)

yeah.sd-ext meaning ext2/ext3/ext4 partition.
so how link2sd works without this partitions?
when you installed link2sd and open app.it will show you to mount partition like ext2/ext3/ext4.so which is your partition you should click on that, then restart your phone and then link2sd ll work.
same with other scripts..no scripts works with fat32.

2 GB isnt sufficient.
But you can partition it to,
1 GB Fat32
500 MB ext3
500 MB linux swap
All partitions are primary.
Then try link2sd.

I have asked many times in the thread and recieved no reply.
So my question to you is what is "ext4" and what bennifit will it be to me as a Desire owner.

1. Google is your friend
EXT4 is a file format used by Linux (Android = Linux). When threads talk about EXT4, they are referring to creating an EXT4 partition on your SD-Card e.g. have 14GB FAT32 and 1GB EXT4 (from 16GB SD-Card.. 1GB is always non-existent)
What having an EXT4 partition enables you to do, is to have Apps/Data2EXT scripts which move apps to the EXT partition, giving you a lot more internal space.

Moving some of the app data to the sd-card is different to having an EXT partition and A2SD.
If you activate A2SD, the system will install and store your apps on the EXT partition, and your internal memory will not be filled up, and will remain at xxxMB. Furthermore, with an EXT partition you can use D2EXT, which makes your phone use the EXT partition as the data partition, so if you have 1GB EXT4, your phone will see 1GB memory.
If you use the inbuilt "move to sdcard" function, it only moves some of the sd-card to the android-secure folder on your sd-card, however your internal memory is still used up.
In addition, moving apps to sd-ext partition doesn't break app widgets like the stock app2sd method that Gingerbread use.

Reason: With A2SD / DATA2SD / etc. Android still "thinks and tells" the Apps are still installed in the internal memory (at least this tells me my logic).

Hi,
I have upgraded from 2.3.7 to a JB MOD. I prepared my SD card in gparted with a 500mb FAT32 and the rest as EXT4. I have inserted the SD card and 'setting\storage' only sees the in built 150MB EXT and the 500MB FAT32 on the SD Card but no 3GB EXT4 partition. In terminal I ran a2sd install and on the reboot it said 'optimising' apps and I thought it was moving apps. However, when I install apps from the store they are installed on the in built RAM.
Using app2sd I can't move any apps I used to be able to on 2.3.7.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks

Here is your most likely scenario because it happened to me: If you created your partition on a PC, for some reason it doesn't work properly (well at least in my case). Then the phone doesn't read the SD card properly. What you should do is upgrade clockswork mod recovery on your phone to the most recent version and create the EXT version using the recovery console by booting into recovery.
Thanks

it should be 500mb ext4 and the rest fat 32, also 1gb ext4 is recommended and dont use ClockWorkMod recovery to partition sdcard, use 4ext recovery instead. CWM makes bad partitions

Hi,
I am using Elk759 JB ROM. I did run the a2sd in terminal after redoing the partitions. It reboots and says optimising apps 1/...79 (whatever number). I can't tell if it has moved anything onto the EXT4 partition of my SD card.
I will boot into a live linux and take a look on that partition.
If it isn't working is there anything I can do?

That seems to have worked as I've installed loads of apps and it hasn't complained about space.

Hey guys, I recently flashed benjamingwynn's cm 10. I really liked the rom but the rom takes up a lot of space. My internal memory is very low, so even if I use link2sd I was only able to install some apps. Then I tried data2sd from the market. I created a storage file but when I try to mount it, there's nothing happening. Is there any way to make data2sd working? Should I follow any other steps?
Thanks in advance!

Data2sd from market? lol.
Data2sd is a script which is only flashed by installing from recovery or rom manager... Get cronmod int2ext+ script and flash it from recovery. It works pretty well.
I can only repeat sukhjit321, you have to flash it in recovery.
Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?t1r06j60gybhn2t
Put it on your SD card, then install it from recovery just like a rom (delete cache partition and dalvik cache before).
Or try int2ext+ or something else, but you have to flash all of them in the recovery.

hi all,
the main reason for me unlocking my arc s was to mount an ext4 partition so there was no more agro with running out of internal ram.
ive tried various roms with various kernals and various scripts, the closest i got to one working was latest vengeance + latest viper + int2ext4+
but it kept lagging on video and internet..
i really liked viper but hdmi missing so waiting or 6.5....
ive just put lupusv16 + UHD4 + UHD mod and it is very impressive, the screen is better almost as stock with bravia2, hdmi very good and camera also very good, the question is which script definatly works properly with this setup? i dont want to move swap to int, just link ext4 on sd to int ram ??

Hi,
i plugged my 8gb sd card into my laptop and wiped it, then created a 6gb fat 32 partition, a 1.7gb ext4 partition & the remainder about 300mb as swap. then mounted fat copied hd4 rom, hd4 mod and int2ext to it. then into phone, booted to recovery, installed rom as per thread, rebooted phone, left it 20 mins, booted to recovery, flashed hd4 mod, rebooted phone, left for 20 mins, booted to recovery, installed int2ext script. rebooted phone, then it hangs on boot..
from what ive seen the int2ext scripts are difficult to get working correctly with no lag, fc's ect.

First of you are on ICS 4.0.4/stock fw 0587 aren't you.
Cos lupus kernel ver16 is for ICS.
Like what angel said both has got to be primary.
Your 6gb/primary/Fat32
Your 1.6gb/primary/Ext4
You should delete link2sd,or any other CronMod extension versions from your sdcard before you flash the CronMod INTEXT2.
After done flashing go to mount n storage and format sd-ext.Reboot.
If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.
If you get bootloop after that then wipe cache and delvic cache and reflash it again following the above procedure again.
But I don't think you'll come to that.If all requirements are met than its a piece of cake.
Try it again. And one more thing,it doesn't lag if not it only faster from my experience using it.
Tell us of the outcome.By the way clicking the thanks button would be sufficient enough to anyone who assist you in the future here on xda.
Cheers.

Had you tried use an app for linking the ext rather than just install a script? I know that it's basically the same but still...
By the way, this is what i do, and its working:
0- Make a nandroid backup
1- Install Mini partition tool wizard
2- Clear the sd - Clic on apply
3- Create a new fat32 partition (13355 MB, 13GB) Default cluster and set as primary - apply
4- In the unnalocated space make the ext 4 partition (2GB - Journal) set as primary - apply
5- Copy the backup into the sd
6- format everything like when you install a new rom
7- restore
8- Download link2sd and select the ext partition
9- Reset
10- Move apps to it :/
My sd card is class 10 but honestly i dont feel so much difference with a class 4 :/

Thanks for taking the time to reply
i re installed rom & mod again, tested game and it was fine, so its def the script, i used int2ext this time instead and it was slightly better as it leaves data on internal for speed so im going to leave it untill i get a class 10 card then try int2ext again.
cheers

My Xperia Play's intenal memory is starting to get lower day by day. I currently have 91mb free available and i've already uninstalled many apps that i don't use daily. I've heard of the link2sd partitioning method but whenever i try i get the error "Mount script cannot be created" and i've tried all the options e.g ex2,3,4 and FAT32. I've gave up on that so now i'm wondering is there any way to get my internal memory go up since apps take up more and more space.
Do you have enough space on sd card? in my case, link2sd made ext2 partition with 1.4GB size on 16GB card (it didn't even ask me how much space it needed). Since i click it just for curiousity, i had to format that sd card in windows to get that space back. I don't need it because link2sd can move apps to sd even without that partition. Just don't move apps like widgets or launcher, all other is safe to move...
Or if you are using GB stock based rom (and you have unlocked bootloader) you can use kernel with 700MB data partition

I have 6GB space left (i think that's enough) and i only tried to make a 1GB partition. Although you can move apps to the sd, not all of the app goes to the sd, a part of it still remains in the internal storage By partitioning, you can xfer all of the apps data (aka link) to the partitioned part of the sd card. Have an unlocked bootloader, currently using xperia Z final rom by markpython (ICS)

I tried but even then those partitioned space become a waste of space since i can't move any apps into the partitioned area

What kernel are you using? Is others init.d scripts are working for you?

You might want to try Lupus ICS/GB v7 kernel
It has 610MB data partition (and ICSbeta have 380MB, as i recall)
But make sure you read all the info in 2nd post (esspecially under bold "important" lines)
In short, make cwm backup and/or app(and data) backup (with titanium backup)
Also, you might want to check this thread if you want to test other kernels
Just found out ur the owner of the other thread anyways what difference will it make using the other kernel? Will it fix the error "Mount script cannot be created"

As i said, i'm on GB and script worked for me. I don't know why you are getting that error. Maybe it's ROM, maybe it's kernel related, but i'm only guessing...
I just remembered something:
try to update your busybox (to fix script error)
you can do it with app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer
ok thanks ill give that a try
Just bricked my xperia play :c
I'm stuck on the LuPuS kernel bootloop
EDIT: ok i fixed that now and thanks the partitioning problem has been fixed. But i picked up a new issue. O the walkman music player app when i try to download music info it gives me the "unknown error could not download"
