Honest question. Football is gone and AOSP roms never got full driver support or a decent battery life. CM still only has nightlies and there will probably never be a stable CM on the One X. Do you think there is a future for One X development?
Aosp roms are fine there only issue is the camera.
Pretty sure all will be fine. Regardless of roms. Its still one of the most beasty phones arounds

yes...and cause Football has gone it is not the end of the world..and to be honest kinda disrespectful to the other devs here on XDA.. Look at Mike and Revolution rom..Look at the Viper X rom.....Look at ICJ and that is already on 4.2.1 and going strong...There are roms out there...Just got to look a bit more and follow the threads....
So if one person has gone does not mean everything has fallen out of place...
AW: Is One X development going anywhere?
Strictly speaking, there is no android rom, wether stock or custom, that is at "final" stage
Thank people as long as you can...
Seriously! There is multiple 4.2 roms out including one released in the past few days which are nearly all working apart from a few minor issues. There is no jb kernel out yet but yet these roms are 90°/ working. If I was one of our hard working devs I'd be feeling kinda pissed.
4.2 is the current os

I don't see why it's disrespectful, and I have donated to Mike in the past. I am just stating facts. All Sense roms have the same base. Bases that mostly came from Football. I'm just trying to start a chat to see if there are any new things coming up besides the small bug fixes.

We're waiting on 3.x kernel sources from HTC. That'll improve AOSP builds a lot.
Not to undermine Football, but at most all he did was speed up dev around 2 months as he leaked early HTC RUUs.

True..But at the same time he is not the only one who can get Sense roms.. So again Football is not the lone factor of the development scene for the One X..Many developers are not just him. And again it is not about donating to other devs that shows your support it is just acknowledging them and supporting them like everyone else here, which i am sure you do. And i agree with the post above mine..
You got Trip, Lord Clockan, Tbalden, Floatshow, so many more..the list is endless...Development will not stop..infact my friend it has just started..and with kernel source i would not be surprised to see more kernel developers having a go..

This isn't just a good point for the One X - it's true for all HTC handsets and sense based XDA devs.
Yes their are other sources of advanced roms but football leaked the vast majority first. So yes there will be leaks still I'm sure.. but they'll be less ahead of official releases probably and less diverse and prolific.
It is all about HTC cracking down on modding of their material and making what we like here less advantageous.
So I agree - it is a big deal for all XDA. Which XDA is being very quiet about at its official level too when it's without doubt a news worthy event.

Hey guys,
As you have probably noticed, the development at the desire has quite "stopped"
Many devs are really "busy" and others have abandoned the desire.
The ONLY working dev is Coolexe or MichaelM.
I personally think it's time to move on to a next device.
What you guys think?
Will there come more desire devs? or will this be the "end"?
Bout kernels: Once they told us, when open source kernel is released, the desire will be muchhhhh better, but I personally think there hasn't change much!
Kernels are still not as they should be, 1 kernel got lockscreen lag or batt drain, others freeze. Know what imsaying?
I'm not saying the devs are that bad, but this is the end to me I think.
Share you'r opinion below!

kali isn't really a dev? he's just posting the CM builds.
Richardtrip only updates his rom when there's a new cm build, so not very interesting too!
And you'r latest update was 22 sept

ooooh 1 whole month ago. Actually I am working on a build now but quality is more important to me than getting out updates every 2 days.
But to say there are only 2 devs working on the desire is completely wrong and I find your posts not only offensive but also inaccurate and counter productive.
Edit> Also forgot to mention Droidzone and Sibere, then all the kernel devs. not all devs build roms.
And Kali- is a dev,. he doesn't just "post builds" if you look at his git hub you can see his commits,.
Worst thread ever!
Well I see it more dimensional:
1. Sense: it seems like really slowed down a bit, but on the other hand Sense 3.5 was available very quickly. Dridzone is also contributing here (piety he resists newer Sense for now).
2. ASOP: CM7 + bunch of other ROMs - well CM is stable, rest is fluctuating (for me it is only CM that seems interesting)
3. MIUI: active
Actually now is the time to wait for ICS sourcecode to enable further milestone. I guess Sense will decrease in popularity with ICS based CM9 released. For me the only thing thet stops me from CM7 as daily are Exchange ActiveSync issues.
Piety that for few days now both Coolexe and michelm_007 remain silent. Anyway DHD seems to be the main driver of HTC community - Desire seems to rather follow, not drive progress (in matter of new sense porting). Tha is basically due to small internal memory that is the main step to consider when porting some new ROMS. The speed issue due to obsolete platform (CPU/GPU) is also stronger here from DHD, so it really is the fade out period for the Sense on Desire. Next Sense will most likely be even more difficult to be run smoothly...
Sense will gain popularity again when Sense 4.0 on top of Android 4.0 D) will be released.
Dont see that running on the trusty Desire though
RootSU,
I didn't want to be rude,
But I think you understand that this desire community isn't how its supposed to be.
You have to agree that the BEST devs abonded, like baadnewz, robocik, leedroid (comes back)
It's not completely dead but its silent here in the rom section.
Hope you understand my point
I understand that the desire is phasing out. I only debate the fact that there are only 2 active devs. I just think you're exaggerating the situation, be that knowingly or otherwise.

isnt it logical that people move on to new devices, including the devs? no point stating the obvious in a thread here... just stick with whats left of the desire community, start developing yourself or abandon ship and go for a newer device... you should at least be thankful for all that has been done for our awesome device so far...
*note* im not bashing you in any way, its just that i think the way you wrote the OP is pointless. you can move on to a Nexus device where the development doesnt stop till the devs faint from working overtime...

This. I even flashed AuraxTSense again for a brief period before changing ship to aosp because of this.
It is only natural that people continue developing elsewhere, depending on where they upgraded. You can't expect them to support old device like you can't expect from HTC. Neither party involved has superhuman abilities, so I can't say anything but great thanks for making Desire more pleasurable to use than it already was.
The thing that concerns me are the reasons both Neophyte and AdamG went. Rapid deterioration of community and quality of information available in the period of last 12 months. Both these great devs went explicitly because of that (one for good and one to his respective forum).

Oh no this all cant be true! I have finally rooted and put my first rom on.....only took me about 18 months. Ah well, a few months time and it will be upgrade time. Still, for me it seems so new.
I've been noticing a lot of ROM's not updating. And recently the ICS port from the RCMix Sensation has been stopped and closed. Is their still hope, or is it time to upgrade to a newer phone.
Not sure what you consider alot, but I.just glanced in the Dev section and quite a few have had updates of within the past two weeks(I counted 10 +). That seems pretty active to me
Plus just because a rom hasn't been updated recently doesn't mean its not being worked on

Not updating doesnt mean that they (devs) are not working anymore, It means that their ROM doesnt have any bugs or problems and is stable and doesnt require any changes.
Thats what most of the ROM devs will say.
Hmmm a question thread that was not posted in the Q&A forum?

It only dies if people allow it. It has become far to common that people wait for others do it instead of learning to do it themselfs. If you want something cool and new dig in and make something new. That is the point of a development forum to help others learn and share tips. Developers are not special. They just have the drive to make their device theirs.
I had another read of the op, like the ics sense is coming back, I've been working on it and other things, in a way dhd is dying and in a way it isnt if that makes sense, alot of new devices gets released n when that happens everyone usually wants something new and cool, devs want to develop on a newer phone see what it can handle performance wise etc
If I'm still here when sense 4.0 drops then yeah I'll most likely be bringing it to DHD first (as thats the phone I have)

Basically as the title of the thread says. How do you guys feel so far in regarding the development of the phone?
Do you guys think we shall be seeing more devs coming to us and building fantastic roms? What in regards when the kernel source drops? Or do you feel that the S3 will get the most development?
I for one i am really happy with how things have started. From reading our devs are the best in the business from the HTC side and we have some of the big names. But are more going to come or what would you guys like to see?
Want to say many thanks for our good devs in making our device better and i just hope the development carries on and we have more devs coming to us even though the S3 is out as well.
What you guys think?
I've got Insertcoin, that's all I need!
In all seriousness, once the kernel source drops, I'm sure show-p and faux123 will be all over it. I very much look forward to that!
Considering the very short amount of time the phone has been available to the public, I don't think we could ask for more!
As I said when I first got this phone, the devs we have here are a who's who of my favourites dating back to the Tytn II: LeeDroid, Baad, monx, VillianRom, Core Droid, Mike1986.... also some promising 'new' devs such as J4n87.
All is looking well.

Also really happy so far, but I'm curious about the kernel source. How long does HTC tend to wait until they release it? Can we expect it within a few weeks or are we talking months? Or might they never release it? :O
Also, does anyone know exactly what they're waiting for? Ie, why didn't they release it simultaneously with the phone?
Cheers!

I`m sure Lee said in his thread that they had 90 days to release the source..i hope it comes sooner than that so the devs can rip it apart and build a better kernel.
From my understanding there's still a lot of unknowns surrounding the kernel and the proprietary drivers, not to mention s-off. I'm confident the devs are all over it like a cheap suit but HTC have done some things differently with the One series which has resulted in some intense chin stroking.
I think once these issues have been overcome (and it will be, its a when not an if) we'll see a lot more community development.
Personally I can't wait to run CyanogenMod on this beast.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the One X isn't running on a Full ICS kernel, It's a Gingerbread Kernel of sorts right?

If so, my theory would be that they're working on a Full ICS kernel and then releasing the source.

My One X is the first Android I have ever had and I am new to the whole development and custom ROM community. I have nothing to compare it to but what I have seen is quite amazing.

And what I have read about faux, i am pretty happy about the future of my One X

Why didn't you include the first CM9 that was available on xda, and the only one that has nightly builds? (Intrepresentation's originally and then picked up by tgascoigne)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661629
And I don't think Domination is really a "CM9" build, rather a Based-on-CM9 since it has many extra features and has differed significantly from a stock CM9 install (not that there is anything wrong with that).

THIS.
Choice is good, naturally but too many of the same thing and it doesn't benefit anyone in the end. In principle, competition may be good but it's almost like two stores under selling each other to get the customers or the glory or what have you.
If one team comes up with a solution, and the others copy it? then who is really benefiting here? where's the innovation in other releases?
These teams should really work together and find a FINAL CM9 build and THEN based their future ROMs on this official unofficial CM9 ROM.
Our community seems small. How many developers do we have?

This^ Previous phone was the GNex and it was unbelievable how many variants and kangs there were for CM10, AOKP, etc. I ran a lot of them but in the end there wasn't all that much that was different from the original rom. In a lot of cases, the variant ran worse.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Quality is always better than quantity
Like was mentioned above, some phones have 200 Rom threads, but really what's the difference between the Rom? They (aosp variants) are 90% cm based with varying mods pulled from aokp source with pa stuff as well
Really, no disrespect intended those 3 aosp roms are all that matter as everything else is just mashed up and derivative of them
As for sense, you only really need a few roms as well; something stock for those who only want root and a few basic mods, some kind of aroma Rom with user configurable options, and or a rom with a lot if built in mods (well you don't need them lol)
Really imo if you have 5 or 6 roms that meet the above criteria you are set
Unless you have a need to flash a different rom every day that has 1 more bs script or 1 different mod in it
The end user doesn't always see the forest from the trees
I agree with what has been said already. Quality is better than quantity... My old S2 had about 194873 ^6 worth of different roms. Touchwiz this and AOSP that and don't forget the AOKP, with CM and a side of Sense ports. In the end I dropped myself on a really good rom called The Blu Kuban which was headed up by rujelus22 over in the Epic 4g Touch development forum. I ran that rom for about 18 months before I nix'd my device and went over to the red side here at Verizon. I heard he went forth to the S4 and has kept that rom's traditions alive. He was one dev who was helped by the many and made a rom that many made their daily drivers just like I did.
I know we have a good community over here as well as even before beaups dropped rumrunner on us we had a few devs tinkering with their roms.
Now remember! A community is only as good as the people around it. Support your devs any way you can if it's simple donations or a click of the thanks buttons. But most of all, be part of the community. List the bugs you find in the roms, mods, and tweaks. Help the devs make the best they can and we all prosper.
I'd still like to see old Sense on this phone. Like Sense 3 or 4.
I'd also like to see a CM variant built off Sense base. Like the old style ROMs that had all full Sense apk compatibility but no Sense launcher. Not sure if this is doable with Sense 5 though.
And last but not least, hopefully a dev will pick up Ubuntu Touch.
Just a daydreamin' wishlist.. lol
Can't port old sense to new hardware. Plus the old stuff was lower resolution.

Can't port old sense to new hardware. Plus the old stuff was lower resolution.

you could port sense4+ to this phone (someone did it on the intl one) as the kernel base is the same (3.4.x)
dont know why you would really want to, but its possible

Consumer choice is always a win. I'd kill for a thread with five million views and fifty three thousand replies. Developers in different sections have had months to build their own form of paradise. Android Revolution HD has fullSnapdragon 600 (GPU) rendering. I want to try that.

thats a bs mod that requires the deleting of a lib (and does nothing)
the end user might enjoy that, real developers know the work done in roms and can sort out the differences between fancy features in a changelog and real code changes and development
views and posts have nothing to do with the work that go into a rom....you can have a thread that explodes because it has a leaked version of sense, a large user base of a rom that drives discussion and hypes upcoming releases, massive bug issues that require help and dicussion, new hboots or firmware needed to run new updates and so on
thread views and # of posts, as well as individual member post count and thanks count is really deceptive and a TERRIBLE barometer of worth in the development community
the best and most important kernel, rom, root exploit, recovery and so on developers that exist in the android world often have a relatively low post and thanks count, whereas guys who release stock deodexed roms made with a rom kitchen in cygwin have tens of thousands of posts and thanks which leads new users and even more experienced ones to inflate their value and skillsets
developers can generally sort out whos who amongst themselves, but its unfortunate that the end user often cant; usually through no fault of their own

Perhaps you should stick to answering the questions you were asked. In any case, it would be smarter to back a winning horse.

Not to start a war, but I'm going to give you benefit of doubt you probably don't know him. What he said is true.. And you probably just proved his point too.
His work on other devices is proof of that. Give it time, we will see more options now that the crowd is turning more s-off.

I know what he said is true and I don't care. CPU vs GPU. That interests me.
