[NEW][KERNEL][REPACK] GA10 with AGAT tREC_v0.3.2 recovery - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Since Garwynn is busy with FL24 and N2 kernels at the moment I decided to make this one too.
I present the GA10 Repack Kernel with new recovery tRec_0.3.2.
This recovery has been compiled with CM10 (JB) source and works better with JB roms/OS.
The repack is not perfect yet but it can be used as daily driver as is.
I'll continue working on it and try to fix remaining bugs.
I didn't run many tests on this but since I've used same methods and same recovery it should
have same problems and also same thing should work.
So I guess you should be able to make and restore nands, flash zips etc.
If you discover new bugs let me know and I'll try to deal with them as they come.
Here is the link:
AGAT_GA10_repack.tar
Hope this will work for you guys.

First.........

Sweet dude! You are incredible!

You are the man!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Actually I made it yesterday but then got caught up in FL24 and N2 setups.
Forgot to post it.
Sorry.

I'll run through a few of the usual tests tonight if I can and more tomorrow.
Hopefully someone else can run some too. Like to see if I can get a full restore from 'zero' - full X2 style formats from ROMs to ROMs etc..
Either way I'll post the results.
Thanks again Agat. Your dedication and support is amazing!

don't keep your expectations to high.
It should be pretty much same as FL16.
Only difference would be that you will have kernel from the build you running.

Good ol' Soft Brick for me.
The good news is the recovery works and i just flashed back to stock GA10 Kernel

Ive been running since release booted up fine. Only issue I had with fl16 repack was could finish back up stopped at checksum. Will try on this build and report back flashed alot of mods last night with no issues. Paid apps are still on phone and can download fine from playstore. This was tested on stock rom and deod. rom. Flashed via mobile odin.

Did you have 'Wipe Dalvik' checked in Mobile Odin? I've seen that cause that for me. I don't select that when flashing kernels. After successful boot with new kernel I've had no problems using that option.
---
So far:
Installed via Mobile Odin with no problem.
All apps working - again so far.
Wiping cache and Dalvic cache from recovery works
Created backup (It seems quicker by the way. MD5 generation took longest)
Verfied md5 (with AFV app).
Installed a few zips from recovery with out issue.
Haven't done a restore yet but will later.

Yes. Just connect first to anything internet related with 3G, then reconnect with WiFi.

Well, I thought for a second that this repack didn't have the same apps on sd issue as previous releases, but then I realized that I had done the power off/power on test with the cable still attached. After removing from charger and powering off/on I have the same issue as before.

[Q] ACS Updater, problem installing acs custom recovery 1.0.0.4

I have been trying to update to the ACS custom recovery 1.0.0.4 but every time i try this in the ACS updater application it starts to download zImage, then gets to 99% and reboots my phonne. It doesnt go into recovery from there and the same version of CWM i was using is still the recovery system.
This has happened across 3 different roms i was trying (acs srf 1.2, and ERA rom, and bamboozle 1.1)
I would like to know iof this is a known issue, how i can get this work work, and if there is a flashable zip that i can use to install the custom recovery myself.
Interesting. I have been testing the recovery for like 2 months. I just thought it was labeled wrong because I am on 1.0.0.3. Let me try to get some info
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

Hey guys, I'm looking into this issue now. Not sure what caused it to just stop working.... I'll get back to everyone when I have an answer.
As for the zImage file - that's the recovery. It downloads into to your sdcard, then uses bmlwrite to write it, and then reboots.

Alright, great news everyone - got it fixed. Just uploaded to the market, give it time to reach you. Version is:
(Free) 1.5.0.3
(Donate) 1.5.1.3
I apologize for the issues... not sure how it went so wrong when it worked in testing.... I tested both versions though, all is good.
By the way -
I was able to do the following:
ODIN to stock
Root with One-Click
Here's the best part - even if your one-click does NOT install a custom recovery - you can still install it from the app. After I did ODIN / root, did not have to touch computer at all.... Installed recovery, then kernel, then rom, all from app.
Once again, I apologize for the issues.

I just saw this thread, but I have ACS Updater (Donate version 1.1) - I only use it for backup and restore and it works perfect - I don't understand this "stops at 99%" thing, but now you guys got me scared to update to the newest version.

It combines the features of wifi tether, crt, 1% battery, reboot, recovery, download, rotation lag fix, screen rotation, no shutdown confirmation, no battery full notification (blue led still shows) and 14 statusbar toggles.
Odex is up now.
So I'm a bit confused on how to use this properly. I've researched the differences between odex and deodex but I'm still confused. I'm running EL13 rooted. I don't have CWM installed so I'm stock still, but rooted. I tried and odex hotspot a couple days ago and it didn't work. It froze my phone at the Galaxy SII screen. I reflashed it and now back to normal. My question is which type should I be using, odex or deodex? If I use the deodex do I remove the odex file currently on the phone? How do I clear the cache in odin?
Thanks,
BlueKalel

Which one you use depends on the rom you have installed. Odexed or Deodexed. So if you have a stock EL13 rom installed and it doesn't specify deodexed then you are odexed. Neither of these files install via Odin. You must have a recovery to install it or you can pull the files out of the zip and manually copy them to the right directories on your phone using root explorer, adb or some other root file explorer. I would suggest installing the Rogue EL13 Stock kernel to get recovery. Than you just copy the EL13HotspotMod-Odexed.zip to your phone and flash in recovery. If you are Deodexed you download the deodex file and do the same thing. You don't clear cache in Odin. You do that in recovery. The zips do that for you so you don't need to worry about it.
So if I'm completely stock(with root, flashed with tar), no recovery, I'd use odex version. Do I have to clear the cache? If I have to clear the cache and don't what to put recovery on then I can't use this, is that correct?
Thanks for your patience and help,
BlueKalel

Clearing the cache isn't really necessary but if you flash the zip in recovery it will clear it for you. You should Odin the Rogue EL13 Stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20293988&postcount=33 to get recovery. Then flash the zip.

How long did you let it sit? It has to rebuild cache which can take a minute or two on the first boot after flash.

What rom are you on? As John said a delay of a few minutes will appear after the first boot but you should get past the samsung screen to the boot screen before the delay kicks in. Odex seems touchy and dependent on the rom. I used calk's stock rooted el13 to build it.

Also I have seen people on prior versions having the same issue because of bad flashes. Download the file again or confirm the md5. Install the mod again. If it doesn't work, manually wipe cache and dalvik 3 each. Yes I know what conventional wisdom tells you but please give it a try. And please report back to let is know how it went and any details you can provide.

yp yup. its doing the same thing as musclehead. says its flashing but afterwards just goes back to the homescreen.
its doing the same thing to me. im not sure if it matters but i did notice when i had superSU installed it wouldnt work but it was doing something different. after i uninstalled superSU and updated the binarny for the regular superuser.apk app it seemed to do an extra step that i dint notice it wasnt doing on prior tries. so if any of u are using superSU then uninstall it and see what i mean. maybe that can help us fig it out. cause i did notice at the bottom of superSU it says something about "injecting superSU"...sorry if my wording on that was confusing.
I noticed when I am using it to replace a stock kernel it doesn't reboot, but it does install kernel I wanted. I just manually reboot.

This may not be not be helpful,
The same was happening to me but it was with modems, and it was several builds ago. I was stuck with FD19 (not a complaint, seeing as how that's the best modem for me so far)
It definitely is not an overall Mobile Odin thing, for me... when I couldn't install a new modem it wouldn't do it from the unlocked stock recovery either. It would SAY that it was. So I was thinking that it was a kernel issue.. Doesn't Mobile Odin make himself a copy of your current kernel to use a "flash kernel?'
Also, are you using "open file" with a .tar or are you placing the zImage directly in the kernel slot? I have noticed varying results when I do it differently.
As a temporary solution, download "Hc-kTool" from the market.
This app is also a must have. You can dump your current kernel, flash zImages, install update.tar packets with a zImage, modem.bin, and param.lfs, backup and restore EFS...
Just until MoOd is up and running for you this should hold you over.

I tried out FE10 (Sfhub) the other day, and tried to mobile Odin back to EL29 and it wouldn't work. I'm guessing its the same scenario as you're having on FE16. Everything works as normal, and then right after it says "flashing kernel", it just does nothing instead of rebooting and flashing like it should.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I've noticed on some of the TW based roms when I would flash a kernel with mobile odin it just doesnt reboot the phone after flashing. I would then reboot into recovery and the kernel I had flashed would be there.
Try going into developers settings uncheck usb debugging it was doing the same thing for me and reboot.

Sometimes I'd flash a kernel threw mobile Odin. And it wouldn't do the reboot at first I thought it didn't work. And would do it over again but one day I I checked to see if the kernel was flashed regardless and it was good to go. Plus it still happens here and there and every time kernel still flashes great. :what:

Mobile Odin cannot flash modems at all.

[ROM][CM9][AOKP] Temporary Stock E4GT from emmc

Epic Touch Blog: Temporary Stock E4GT from emmc
Utility for CM9 Epic Touch
This is a temporary ROM that boots Samsung's Gingerbread EL29 firmware entirely from emmc without making any changes to the ROM currently installed on your phone. When you reboot, you return to recovery where you can re-flash the ROM to return to CM9. This temporary ROM is useful for several purposes.
Update Profile.
Update PRL.
Sprint Activation.
Dial codes and diagnostic mode.
This should be helpful to users of any AOSP-based ROM including CM9, AOKP, etc.
Thanks to noobnl and mkasick for making this possible!
Really nice thanks a lot.
Awesome can't wait to test it out

Would this work to flash .zip updates (such as kobridge) or updated ROMs (such as alpha5)?
This definitely will come in handy, can I suggest seeing if you can get a video made of how it works. I can honestly say It seems to help out quite a bit in this forum for a lot of people and does cut down on the crazy questions.
Great job though!

You can use the directbootCWM file to update CM9 yes. Not sure about using it for Kobridge tweaks.

Its for AOSP roms. You currently can't update PRL/Profile, activate your device, or use dialer codes on them so this temporarily allows you to boot stock el29 off the SD card without changing your current rom. You can do what i said from there. Saves you time from doing backups, restoring, etc.

I'm hoping that someone can help me out as I am unable to boot into the temporary ROM. Here are the steps I followed:
1. I have everything extracted to emmc as directed.
2. I flashed directboot CWM utilizing mobile odin which correctly booted me into CWM version 5.0.2.7
3. I flashed boot_EL29.zip at location /emmc/multiboot/EL29 and received the following messages that appear to be correct.
Finding Update Package...Opening Update Package...Installing Update...Boot /emmc/multiboot/EL29/zImageCreate mount symlink.Remount partitions read-only.(Re)mount /emmc read-only.Unpack kexec.Load zImage and initramfs.Sync.Reboot into zImage.Install from sdcard complete.4. At this point I expected the phone to reboot into the temporary rom; however, it just shows the standard recovery menu. No reboot occured.
5. Because no automatic reboot occured, I selected "reboot system now" from CWM. Unfortunately this just brings me back into directboot CWM.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
I am having the same problem I thought it could have been the downloading or unpacking so I downloaded it again and unpacked it and still have the same problem.

This sounds pretty cool and I would like to test it... what I don't understand is when I'm done with the temp rom, how do I get back to AOKP? Do I need to reflash the whole AOKP rom? Just the kernel?

When done updating prl/profile, etc. Just reboot your phone and it will take you back to cwm recovery. From there you can either just reflash the rom or just a compatible kernel so it boots.

[NEW][KERNEL] CM9 FF11 repack with AGAT recovery 0.2.1

There was a request (more than one) via PM to repack CM9 kernel with my recovery. I know there is a better recovery available but I liked the challenge and decided to give it a try.
With help from Chris41g I was able to make this repack.
Base of this repack is CM9 FF11 kernel.
Everything and anything that worked in FF11 kernel should be working here.
Never used CM before so I have hard time testing repack.
So far I have noticed 3 things.
1. 4G is not turning on.
2. When I mount usb I see only external SD card. Internal storage is not showing up.
3. In settings when I try to go to storage settings.apk is FC.
Other than that everything is working (I think).
Recovery is CM7 (GB) based and has been tested very extensively with TW roms and modified CM/AOSP/AOKP roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27124691&postcount=484
We some help I hope to fix those 3 bugs as well but for now I think you can use this repack as alternative if you want to.
Links for tar and zip files:
1. FF11_CM9_AGAT.tar flash with ODIN or mobile ODIN
2. FF11_CM9_AGAT.zip flash in any unlocked recovery.
I have tried both. Flashed tar with mobile odin and flashed zip file with CWM recovery.
If you guys like it I might need some help to finish this project and make sure everything is working.
reserved just in case

This is definitely thinking outside the box. Excellent as always and makes me feel safer to flash cm9. Thank you sir. Live the way you think.
Sorry I crashed, glad you got it up and running ;-)

This is awesome but why use FF11 and not FF18? Just wondering, good job as always.

As I stated in OP I don't know much about CM.
I took whatever kernel was available.
Gimmi FF18 CM kernel and I'll repack it as well.
