EDIT----SOLVED USING KIES---
Hey All---
My phone is rooted stock---when i went and tried to get the update, i was told that I couldn't because i wasn't on stock.
I then used triangle away to get rid of the counter.
when I go to check for the software update (4.1.2), it just stays on 'checking for software updates...'
Anyone have a clue?

Odin back to 4.2 (Not 4.3 becuase of knox stuff). Use this thread for help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628&highlight=stock
Then flash your rom back. Or flash a specific 4.4 rom do not try to OTA.

Hello everyone, this is my first post and pretty much a cry for help.
So I'm not new to the whole rooting scene, as I did many things on my old S3, but I'm having a bit of trouble with my note 3.
I had rooted my device about a week after I got it to remove some bloatware. Flashed some ROMs to try out but ended up back on stock firmware which removed root but didn't really care. Tried to update yesterday and got the whole "you're device has been modified" thing. So I rooted again and downloaded xposed installer and that app to fake system to not get that message. Everything seemed fine, got the update and started downloading. Once it finished downloading and tried updating, I got a failed to update message then back to home screen. Went on some forums and read Kies was working for people who had rooted phones. Tested that out and started working. Download went fine, it started updating, all was good. Said update was complete and it was restarting..... Let the fun begin.
About 10 minutes later (I waited this long because I've flashed plenty of ROMs and I know the initial boot can take forever) and it was stuck at Samsung boot logo. On the top left there was a blue message saying "Recovery Rebooting." I restarted again, same thing. Did a battery pull waited a few minutes and still nothing. Wouldn't go into recovery mode, but it did go into download mode. Assumed something was wrong with the recovery so I flashed a custom one. Finally was able to go into recovery so I did factory reset/cache and rebooted. Phone was still stuck at boot logo but this time no blue message. I then found the 4.4.2 KK md5 file online so I flashed that through Odin but same story. Ended up flashing back to stock 4.3 and that's where I'm at now.
Any ideas? Am I stuck without KK forever? The only thing I think there's left to do is go completely stock by removing the Knox counter or whatever that's currently set to 0x1 on my phone. Doing the whole "Triangle away" thing but idk if that'll make a difference.
Sorry for the really long post but I'd prefer to explain everything I've tried so far.
You might have had a bad download from the odin.tar.md5 file redownload and flash again i have heard other pwople say they had to flash it 2 times for it to take and once u do the update to 4.4.2 you cannot revert back to 4.3

I thought rooted phones weren't allowed to update via Kies or OTA.

I guess I'll try to download it again and see if that works. Do you know if that's through Kies or through manually downloading it then using Odin?

Well it seemed to update for me. At least the verification process went through. I used Wanam Xposed and had the fake system status thing checked. Either way something went wrong and didn't finish the updating process and got stuck at boot logo with no recovery options.
The OTA update did not work though. I was able to get the update downloading after Wanam, but once the download finished, the update failed before trying to install. Did not try OTA again though I just went to Kies, then Odin. But all 3 methods failed.
Hello all, I tried to do the kitkat update yesterday but something went horribly wrong. I was rooted but used triangle away and then unrooted with super su/user. It looked like everything downloaded correctly and restarted, then it installed the update and restarted again. After the next restart it became stuck at the at&t logo screen. My battery was at full charge so I left it and waited until it died. I took it by at&t and they said its not their fault buy a new phone. I saw that someone was able to revert back to 4.3, can someone give me detailed instructions to do this please?!? Thanks for any help

Are you able to get in recovery mode? If so, you might need to factory reset.
Otherwise, here if you were on 4.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
Or if you were on 4.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789917

That's something you gotta mention so I don't suggest it.
Look at the 2 threads I linked and choose according to the bootloaders you have. Note that you can't downgrade bootloaders after the 4.3 update!
That being said, you could just flash a custom ROM in recovery (unless you really want stock ROM).
Hello all, I'm here today because my note 2 (SGH-I317) seems to be stuck on the samsung logo. I tried using Odin and multiple ROMs, it says "PASS" but it looks like nothing was done to the phone. I can only get into download mode and not recovery, I tried to flash a custom recovery but no dice. I put many hours into finding a solution until I came across "Sudden Death", the device might of have a faulty chipset but there's no knowing for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S, I hope I opened this forum in appropriate location.

I was CM10 which is 4.1.2, I wanted to go to stock so I used Odin to flash back to stock which worked the first time then I installed the OTA update then thats when the problem occurred.

Sorry for the late reply, I sent the phone to Samsung to flashed the factory firmware. I appreciate your response.
Hi everyone
Long time xda follower, newly registered, since I needed to ask a Q.
I rooted and switched to Lollipop on my ATT S3 (i747) a few months ago, Lately, I've started noticing battery issues as well as network issues with this ROM. I figure it is time for me to go back to stock.
However, if I remember correctly, when I tried previously the phone refused to downgrade back to stock. Kies was helpless because the trip counter had been reset (or something similar).
Please, is there a good how-to on downgrading this phone from Lollipop back to stock? If yes, would someone please point me to it?
Much thanks in advance.

Hmm.. I am going to give this a try:

Nope! No go!!
Triangle away reset the counter.
The stock recovery works well. I was able to boot to recovery and wipe the data and all that.
Odin says "SW Revcheck Fail" when trying to download the stock rom.
I rebooted into Lollipop, downloaded Triangle away again and reset the counter. Still Odin fails with the same message.
I tried flashing ROM first then the recovery as it was suggested in that link. Nope. Again "SW Revcheck fail". For the record, my SWREV appears to be 3. It is supposed to be 0. Triangle Away does NOT reset this. It did reset another counter (as reported by Triangle away itself - was 5, got reset to 0).
I remember *this* was the problem previously as well, hence the original Q:
How *do* you get back to stock from Lollipop on the Galaxy S3/ATT?
Meanwhile, although Keis failed to recognize the device, I tried to run a firmware recovery manually. It took a long time and in the end failed. It also messed up the recovery, so I had to flash CW again to make it bootable. I'm still back up with Lollipop at this point, but I don't want Lollipop.
Anyone anything else I can do? Any other guide out there to downgrade?
Thanks again
L
The thread you linked is for the international version of the s3.
Before flashing anything else, you need to confirm the bootloader on your phone to ensure that you don't flash anything that attempts to change the bootloader if your bootloader is mjb or newer.

Right. I finally figured it out.
First the 4.1.1 FWs weren't flashing (in other words SW REV CHK FAIL) was basically indicating that my Bootloader was far ahead of the 4.1.1. I dropped 4.1 after I figured that part out.
Next, I tried to flash a 4.4 (UCUFNE-rooted-odex is available as a zip-flash) through CWR, which didn't work (no boot, stuck at splash).
Next I got hold of a 4.3 (UCUEMJB-2024954-REV04-user-low-ship), which successfully flashed through Odin (repartition checked), but there was no sound, IMEI indicated null. Service Mode yielded a blank screen.
I flashed TWRP through Odin (was working on CWR since the beginning) and then flashed the UCUFNE-rooted-odex above on top of 4.3 through TWRP, which was successful, still no sound/IMEI/service mode.
Finally I got hold of the UCUFNE-Modembaseband zip (a small one - 20MB) and flashed that through TWRP. Both sound and IMEI came back.
I'm at 4.4.2 now, but an OTA update from ATT failed (probably because it went through TWRP)
Now I'm back to stock, albeit rooted ROM (because of the Rooted-Odex 4.4 flash), but I am a happy camper.
Thanks to XDA for various bits of info here and there. But essentially *this* is how you go back to stock from Lollipop.
